Woah dude, woah. Don't get drastic on me. ^^ Like I've always said, take all the time you like.

It doesn't have anything to do with our fight, it's something I've been considering for a long time now. With that hanging over me its hard to get enthusiastic about roleplaying a winning strategy. It almost makes me want to look for a flashy way to lose. XD

I could be wrong here, but is that cage supposed to be reacting all on its own or something?
PostPosted: Mon Oct 16, 2006 3:21 am

Nope, Cole's controlling it. He's actually using a quickened version of an effect called phasing to dissapate and recreate the walls. Its kinda like teleporting, but without movement. The reason the Caida wouldn't stop it from recreating is because when it "phases back" into the space it had occupied its like it never left.

Its also something Cole can't keep going forever. Phasing something at that speed, especially when the times in and out of phase are variable to the situation, isn't healthy for the fabric of reality. Nor is the moving of the cage with Absolute Territory (I've come to realize that Nicoli's version is still better. =/).

Course, all of that will be a moot point next post. =P So whatever you're planning, get to posting, cause the entertainment starts soon.

@Jello: The point of having a no restrictions tournament is to find any way possible to win man, some people do it through power, others through trickery, still others through the rules, and yet still others by stacking their decks. In the end the best RPer among us will win out, cause I doubt there will be any silly mistakes or cheap tricks in the final rounds.

@Vahn: I apologies for that post to you Vahn, its about 3AM and I couldn't pull out anything nearly as descriptive as I wanted to.

Well I don't know who Nicoli is or what their version is like, but... I have to admit the prospect of fun is indeed allurring. And it looks like you have that flashy end for me all set up. XD

Of course I'd never lose on purpose without some sort of story reason behind it, so I'll just try as best as I can and see how things work out. I've had this idea of an escape plan since you first did the phasing-out thing so I may as well try it out. Hopefully it won't get completely shot down. Basically it comes down to if you were expecting it or not, I guess. Not usually a safe tactic in an RP fight where one can just have their character be expecting it if they want them to. XD

Mwhahahaha! Bet you never expected THAT!

Great post btw, and you're right, I'd be screwed right now if Cole was still doing the same thing over and over.

(Nicoli is my main psionic character. Technically Cole isn't a psychic, he just has those powers.)

Meh. In my state of mind I don't really try to expect anything, though I will admit I was expecting you to write around it somehow so I guess I was right on that tiny level but it hardly counts.

Ultimately though, if my post did offer you any genuine amusement then in that I am content and satisfied. I aim to please.

I must say though, repeatedly saying in your own post and in various ways that what you're doing is impossible doesn't give your actions much credit. lol

I might have to ask how you are mirroring the Chaneler's unqiue biological sense when you've gone on record saying Cole has no idea he even has anything like it.

Oh my God. Viper (the character) is so gay.
In the 'he likes to do it with guys' sense.

Way too much homo-erotic sadism in that last post.

And of course what makes it worse is that we all know the writer is doing it on purpose. XD

Tac is relentless, but it's not that bad.

I'm sure you've noticed by now that he starts getting sloppy after a while. Or maybe just is. He's good, but Mindblaze, and I'd suspect another character of his or two, simply have too many abilities. God awful overpowered, but the way he uses them leaves enough slack for sure. I've been on the defensive the entire fight, after I picked up the rhythm a little I fell to where I'm supposed to be with Rivven; laying back and exploiting openings.

But personally, I have no clue who's gonna pull through on this tourney. Well, actually, a few, though I'd have placed one of Impact's characters up there before he quit. But I don't hardly know anyone, and apparantly at least one or two of the people here consider me worth mention as a competitor, so I'm a bit surprised... sweatdrop

Really? To me, the point of having a no restrictions tournament is sort of like flushing people out. To bait them out into the open so we can see just how far they're really willing to go.

I mean, if I only cared about winning through sheer dominance, I could have entered something to completely blow out even these guys who I stare at in disgust from a distance. I'm assembling a 40' pole right now to see if I'd actually touch one of them, and as best I can tell I think the answer is 'no' since I fear what might happen if I complete said rod.

This thing is 'uncapped', so I entered some of my highest level characters with the assumption that they would still be running as underdogs, and from the looks of things so far I've been largely correct in that sense. For example: I entered one who is capable of crushing a man's scull with one hand and going head to head with a train, but the moment he gets matched with Deity he loses by default because Deity can move mountains. There is quite literally no way that the character could win if melee is his only skill and he's outclassed by an exponential factor of physical strength and resilience. The whole "I punch you and break my fist" clause.

What makes a good RPer isn't what he's capable of imagining when all restrictions are removed, but how well he's able to function within the box. Creativity, the ability to think and understand, and a concept of fair play.

Some of you like this thing, I consider it a mockery. But to each their own, and I'll continue to watch Tiem Jay advance through sheer luck. rofl

This is basically what I wanted to say. Only said better, though you babbled worse than I would have.

I am a tangent whore. Exploitation to the XXXtreme.

The general gist of it all is:

- Some characters just win by default and the only time you'd ever be able to actually do something against them is if they leave an opening.
- Some characters are not damaged by said opening, either because they pull out another ability to negate it or because the character is just immune to you.
- When that happens, the only hope you have of actually winning the fight is if the other guy times out.
- Winning in this way does not constitute good roleplaying.

Through this process, we can logically follow the transition between 'no cap' and how a tournament like this does not necessarilly reveal who the best roleplayer is.

Example: People say I'm pretty good, but no amount of 'pretty good' can explain just why the hell a kid with a ADHD and a stick is in round 3. It's pure luck.

I'm SO GLAD you think so. xD

Personally I'm of the opinion that it could have been done better, but I'm not in the habit of writing like that in my free time.

@IC

=P Yeah, the whole saying its impossible is more mood setting than doubt setting. As to how he he can copy it, that's Cole's thing is all. He's an otherwise normal human being but with a brain like an empty storage facility and a massive exponential learning curve. His version of your Caida is certainly different, the nerves are more spiritual and less biological and his processing power is dependant on his mental capacity (which you're forcing to expand btw, lucky dog), but the end results are the same.

I know I suck Josh.

Why? Because you punched me and broke your fist?

That's a technicality. You punched 15 lb metal brick hiding under his cape.

[edit] Y'know, it seriously bothers me when you say that. Stop being emo, damnit. stressed
