Streamjumper LunaInverse Yay! "The North American publisher Yen Press has announced that it has licensed Gaku Tsugano's manga adaptation of Nagaru Tanigawa and Noizi Ito's The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya light novel series. Yen Press plans to release a volume every four months starting this October. (The fifth volume was released in Japan last October, but Yen Press only acquired the first four so far.) The science-fiction comedy light novels also inspired an anime franchise for which Bandai Entertainment released the first series in North America last year. The studio Kyoto Animation confirmed a second anime series last December.
Yen Press plans to give away posters at New York Comic Con this week and other items at Comic-Con International San Diego this July. Yen Press Co-Publishing Director Kurt Hassler emphasized that its manga release will not be censored." Now if someone would just license the novels themselves... I'm looking at you, Del Rey. stare In answer to that... First of nine volumes to ship in April 2009 in joint venture with Yen Press
The Publishers Weekly trade periodical reports that Little, Brown Books for Young Readers will publish Nagaru Tanigawa's Haruhi Suzumiya light novels in English starting in April of 2009. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is the first of the nine volumes, and the main inspiration for anime series of the same name. Little, Brown Books acquired the series from Kadokawa Shoten in a joint venture with Yen Press, who also revealed today that it will be publishing the manga version of the novels in North America. (Both companies are imprints of Hachette Book Group USA.) The first novel volume will be released in a US$8.99 trade paperback version and a US$16.99 hardcover version. 4.5 million novel copies and 1.5 million manga copies have been sold in Japan.
The story revolves around a weird but beautiful girl named Haruhi Suzumiya who convinces (or drags) several of her high school mates into joining a club that explores extraordinary phenomena and other hi-jinks.

Mom: *hands me a note* Skizz: .. *opens it* (Note has a Gambino/Edmund slash pic on it, but just hugging. Gambino is all "ILU, K?" and Edmund is blushing. There is a note underneath the picture, that asks me to get her anything of Gambino or Edward at the NYCC Gaia panel) Mom: You know, if there is any. 3nodding Skizz: ... Mom: Like a plushie, or a cardboard cutout, or one of those lifesize bed buddies.. Skizz: Bed what?! Mom: Thanks, daughter!

That makes sense though Little, Brown Books feels kind of out of left field since I was unfamiliar with them before. Yen Press is doing some really nifty things. I had thought they would stick to manhwa back when they were promoting the switchover from Ice Kunion but they've really hit the ground running from the name change. (Part of the problem though is that they were unclear that the name change was due to absorption...)
