Jun woke up his beautician team that day and informed them, that for a little while, they were to be an actual trainer's team, just until they fought a Gym Battle and accumulated some funds for Posh's designer line.

None of his three particularly liked the idea of battling, or really knew anything about it. Naturally, they had seen tidbits of trainers duking it out here and there, but none of them really ever stopped to learn the technicalities.

"It might be bad for your complexions and your hair, but just think of it as... an experience. You can't be a beautician without knowing every aspect of your client," Jun said, trying to convince his Pokemon as much as he was trying to convince himself to be cheery about the situation. Even Posh, who had suggested this idea, had grown terribly grumpy about it since Jun told her sternly that she had to participate, too, no diva princess on the sidelines of the manual labor this time.

Jun had grown up in the dojo of Veilstone, had watched (always cringing) as his father forced him to watch Gym Battles, seeing that he was the eldest son and was supposed to take over the family business someday. The muscular Fighting-type Pokemon sweating, pushing against each other with their arms and legs bulging always made Jun want to cry. He did, sometimes, which led to his father forcing him to do punishment wall sits and push ups and the such. Gym battles, from his memory, were unsavory things, and he had hated all the fights he had to do back then as warm-ups for upcoming challengers -- hence he kept running away, until finally his father gave up and gave the position to his much more willing sister Maylene. Maylene never completely forgave him for being such a wuss and abandoning the family (Jun had to even leave his family name behind, since his father, who more or less accepted Jun's life choice, prudently decided that his son's future ventures wouldn't publicize the dojo in a positive manner), particularly since he was close with his sisters, but they kinda made up the last time he was home. She did kick his a**, though, Jun thought cheerfully. That cute little sister of his. Shame she never took care of her split ends.

So anyways, Jun had gone out and bought a book called POKEMON BATTLES for Dummies and had sat his team under a tree to read it out loud, since none of his Pokemon ever really had to fight, per say. I mean, Jun had a general idea from his past memories, but he figured the book would do a better job than he would.

"... 'Most Gym Battles are one-on-one' -- meaning you know, you guys go one at a time against one of the Gym Leader's Pokemon. ... 'Gym Leaders generally are not allowed to recall their Pokemon during a battle, whereas challengers may. Items may or may not be used, check the gym's rules.' Oh, Olsen, don't give me that worried look. We're not talking about wrestling, with iron chairs as items. Items like healing things. I'm supposed to give you guys support with Potions and Antidotes for like... Poison and Narcolepsy and Foot Cramps. Or Sleep and Paralysis."

By the way, that's what he ended up naming his new Tangela: Olsen, after the Olsen twins, who are quite known for their notoriously beautiful fringe bags. It was between Olsen or Fabio, whose hair the Tangela's vines resembled, but Jun thought the name Fabio was too flashy for the shy, quiet Tangela.

He continued delineating the battles until they more or less got the idea. "Now, let's go try and do a fight!" Jun grinned, optimistic.

The sun was beginning to set upon the first day of Jett's training session, and he thought time had passed rather quickly. However, a good half of the day had been spent with his battle with Roxanne, but today still counted as one of the three he had promised.

River was trembling again, having grown terribly tired of all of this. She was ready for a well-deserved rest, but she felt she needed to accomplish something today. She couldn't disappoint.

The Feeling Pokemon, in fact, had accomplished something. She had used her Teleport over four times in the battle, and her tolerance for such an attack had definitely grown. She was coming up with strategies on her feet, and had managed to avoid getting hit by the Absorb all day.

This, of course, left Aerosmith in a sullen mood. He was perfectly aware that River was indeed the stronger one, but it was vastly irritating that he had not landed a single hit. She was worse than that stupid Geodude, and that infuriated him beyond the impossible.

Aerosmith was not such a strategic battler as the Psychic-type. He was more impulsive, and his impulses were very... forward. After about an hour of their battling, it had become obvious that he would trap River in a String Shot and attempt Absorb. Or, perhaps, he would just try Absorb and wish for the best.

Jett frowned slightly, wondering whether or not Aerosmith would catch River. They were both extremely tired, but he wanted this part to end so they could advance tomorrow. "Both of you, just give it one more shot, okay?"

River nodded, pushing past her fatigue for her fifth Teleport, appearing above Aerosmith. She grit her teeth, the move taking its toll on her, but she intended to dive-bomb him and get it over with already.

Aerosmith, however, was completely unconcerned. If he had learned anything, it's that everyone wears out in time. So he looked straight up at River, closed his eyes briefly in the happiest gesture he had ever made, and swiftly flew up to meet her with a Tackle.

"Beautifly!" And so it had worked. The tiny one was tumbling down, taken by surprise, and now he aimed at her. The Feeling Pokemon glowed a bright green before several orbs flew from her to Aerosmith.

River landed with a dull thud, got up, shot a glare at Aerosmith, and promptly sat. She waved her little paw at Jett, as if to let him know she was done for the day. She felt they both had trained enough, and any further would be just cruel.

"Very good," Jett smiled warily, nodding to Aerosmith, who landed and let out a tired "Fly." The boy produced their Pokeballs, smiling some. "I think you've both learned from today's exercise. Now, we're going to go back, heal up, eat, and get a good night's rest. Tomorrow will be a full day of training..."

River directed her glare to Jett now.

Aerosmith merely groaned and laid down.

Jett still smiled fondly at his companions as he recalled them, before he began his stroll back into Rustboro. His grin became less affectionate and more fierce as he continued on. Watch out, Roxanne...

Sam had watched, open-mouthed, as Miharu's Flaafy took down the Ariados with no problems. Now she looked up from her spot on the ground as Miharu asked her what they were going to do next.

"Uh...Well I think we should head to the...er...Pokemon Center. You know, get Pokemon healed and all that. Devlin is in bad shape, and I may need him. Besides, with those two Trainers out of commission, it should be easy to get to Bugsy now." Sam stood, and shook her head a few times, still amazed by Miharu's battling strength. She walked towards the front door, stumbling over the grass and rocks a few times. 'I wonder if Star and Miles will ever get to that Flaafy's level. That was very impressive! I'm sure they will get there at some point, I mean I don't plan on quitting being a Trainer any time soon. Hey, if the Flaafy is that strong, it should evolve into Ampharos soon. I love Ampharos!' She continued rambling along with her thoughts, silent as she made her way to the door, passing the rock that had badge-winners' names inscribed on it. She turned to Miharu as she passed it.

"Hey Miharu, how did you become a Trainer? Everyone has a different story. It's interesting to learn how everyone came to be a Trainer through so many different means."

Jun hailed down a rather handsome trainer passing by with a Luxio in the same manner he'd hail down a taxi in the hustle and bustle of downtown Veilstone. The guy was definitely heterosexual, as most of them were, but it wasn't like Jun hit on every guy that passed by, and never a straight guy. He wasn't /not/ going to casually appreciate how hot he was, though. Casually was the key word. The problem with most boobs-loving men was that if they even got the notion that you found them even the least bit attractive, they would assume that he wanted to be all up on them, which isn't true. You don't hit on every person you find cute, unless you're a drunken slut. In which case, all the power to you.

"Excuse me, would you care for a battle?" Jun asked, smiling but being careful not to smile too brightly, too invitingly.

The guy grinned back. "Sure! " he said. "My name's Roy."

"Jun," our man said, clamping the other's hand vigorously, briefly.

"Alright, you got three? Sounds good. I choose you, Carvanha!"

"It's all you, Posh, darling," Jun grinned, sending out the reluctant flower to face that terrifically terrifying fish/shark thing. This was his mild revenge -- she looked back to see him grinning his 'Well, you wanted this' look.

"Well, we'll start if off, shall we? Carvanha, Bite!" the man ordered, pointing his finger at Posh. The flower froze under the pressure of the battle, of the man's intimidating finger, of the piranha's vastly intimidating chomping teeth, and almost began to cry.

Jun thought for a moment. Crossed his arms, tapped his foot. The man had commanded his fish to Bite. Well, Roselia's didn't have that kind of teeth. So she couldn't Bite, right? Well, well, well, then. "Posh! Punch!" The flower, utterly confused, gave him a flabbergasted, distressed look before adopting a petrified Stantler-caught-in-the-headlights expression as she stared helplessly at the oncoming Carvanha. Jun cleared his throat. "Pardon, could we have a time-out?"

There wasn't enough time for the Carvanha to stop its attack, so it looked up at Jun, perplexed, from the top of Posh's body. (Posh's head was in his mouth, and her arms were flailing pathetically). Roy looked just as perplexed. "Why, what's up?"

"Actually... This may seem a bit ridiculous," Jun said thoughtfully, stroking his chin now. "But I don't believe I remember a single one of my Pokemon's attacks. Mind letting me borrow your Pokedex?"

Roy nearly fell down of exasperation.

Once again Turtwig's leaves began to shimmer bright green, and he let out a loud "Turrrr!" as the spheres of energy once again assailed their target. Turtwig was now looking the picture of health, as luckily for him Pachirisu's attacking power was about as deadly as being smacked upside the head with a pillow.

Beth had opened her mouth to demand another attack from her Pokemon, but she was cut off by an older woman's voice shouting her name, and both she and Jake turned towards the house, an identical expression of shock and fear written on both their faces. The sheer volume of the shout could have easily rivaled that of an Exploud, and the girl rushed over to her Pachirisu and picked it up. Peaches quickly scrambled up onto Beth's head, and they turned to Jake. "That's my mom, I gotta go," she said, waving at the boy and his Turtwig eagerly. "Thanks for the battle, Big Guy Jake!" she called, blowing a kiss in his direction before running back into the house. "Mommy, Daddy, I had my very first Pokemon battle and-"

The familiar slamming of the door drowned out the rest of her voice, and Jake looked down at Turtwig. "That was... interesting. You did very well, Turtwig," he said. He'd been about to say something else when very suddenly he began clutching his stomach, as it let out an angry growl of protest from being so empty. The apple he'd eaten previously obviously hadn't been enough. "Let's get back to Sandgem Town," he told Turtwig, who's own stomach had growled ominously as well. "I'm sure we can get a bite to eat back at the lab."

"Tuurrr twiig!" Turtwig cheered. The pair began to head north, driven by both their determination to report their successful mission to Rowan, and their hunger.

Jett found himself sulking as the three ate their respective dinners. He merely devoured a sandwich and now he sat, staring pensively into space as he sipped a bottle of water. His main concern was the obvious one: would they really be ready after three days of training? Perhaps.

Then there were other worries, mostly irrational. He worried if they were ready for the entire trainer's challenge at all, if they could handle such things. He dispelled the thoughts with a simple wave of his hand, and his mind wandered elsewhere.

I wonder if Crush or Leon had any trouble... Surely, those two would've battled against Roxanne by now. The surfer trainer would no doubt have at least one Water-type, but Jett chastised himself for assuming such things. Still, there was a good possibility. And the Ghost-type enthusiast would have an interesting battle, to say the least. He could imagine that Gastly fighting the Geodude.

Now his mind had found strategy, trying to remember how Roxanne fought. She was smart, that was a given, but there was something he needed to remember specifically. Well, her Geodude got some speed boosts... he remembered, nodding. And that Sandstorm is something to be wary of...

He still remained immersed in his thoughts as he cleaned up their table and recalled his Pokemon for the time being. They were allowed back out when Jett reached his room, and they merely found comfortable spots to sleep in as he went and showered.

Maybe I should check out TMs and future moves... Jett thought as he dried off, scowling slightly. I relied way too much on Absorb and Confusion... if I can play her into thinking that those are the only moves I'm capable of, I could surprise her...

That idea was definitely a good one, but it was swiftly shattered when Jett recalled the price of TMs. He'd be lucky to afford maybe one, and then it'd be hard to decide who to give it to... He grimaced at the thought of how jealous they would both be if they were denied such a thing. River would pout, Aerosmith would be downright furious but too proud to admit so. ...Or show so.

"Goodnight!" Jett whispered to his two Pokemon as he settled into the free bed. He sighed a little, knowing in the back of his mind that his next battle with Roxanne would result in his victory. It was something he was absolutely sure of, and if he lost, well, he would just train even harder for the next time.

Riza shrugged again, once again trying to coax the still very terrified Faustus from his hiding place. It soon became apparent that it wasn't happening any time soon, so Riza half-wriggled behind the couch in order to recall the timid Dratini into his poke ball. "I like naming my Pokemon," she said finally, standing up with Crenu's help and brushing the dust from her legs and skirt. "It's really nothing more complex than that." She smiled at him, able to see that the wheels and gears in his head were turning once again. "You overthink everything, Shiro," she said, stepping forward and draping her arms around his neck in an overly dramatic fashion. "You're gonna hurt your poor brain," she teased, gently kissing his cheek.

She pulled away from him and checked the clock on the wall again. "Yeah, we'd better go register and pick up our Contest Passes, or they won't let us enter tomorrow," she said, easily more excited about this little errand than actually having a decent meal. "Come on, I know where the Contest Hall is and everything," she said, motioning for him to follow her as she practically ran outside. 'I've also got to figure out what I'm going to wear, this old outfit of mine just won't do,' she thought, also excited about the prospect of shopping for a contest outfit.

'SolarBeam?' Katie, thought, frowning. She glanced quickly towards Seraphim, making a mental note in the back of her mind that it would be a good move to teach her Roselia some day. "Seraph, dodge!" the orange haired trainer called, knowing that while it was a powerful attack, it wouldn't be overly effective against the dual grass and poison-type. 'I bet Gardenia's just trying to psyche me out,' she thought, watching fearfully as the Roselia attempted to sidestep the beam of solar energy. It was too wide to avoid altogether so the Thorn Pokemon braced herself.

The attack burned, but not as much as she expected, though the moment the beam died down Katie issued her next command. "Quick, Seraph! Douse Cherrim with your Stun Spore!" Seraphim nodded and jumped up, twirling as a glittering golden powder began to drift down from her roses. Both she and Katie knew that it would be easier to land their attacks if they were able to paralyze the Blossom Pokemon.
PostPosted: Tue Jul 27, 2010 6:20 pm

"Oooohhh, your Roselia is SO elegant!" Gardenia swooned, watching the Pokemon twirl and jump. She just LOVED Grass types, she couldn't help but be excited, even during a Gym battle. Though that Stun Spore sure could be troublesome. The dust itself ballooned over such a large area that it would have been hard to avoid all together.

"Use another Solar Beam!" Gardenia commanded. Their strong sunlight would only last so long, she'd have to take advantage of it before it dimmed back to normality. Cherrim wholeheartedly agreed. The pink flower took a few seconds to charge before firing another beam at the Roselia who had since landed on the opposite side of her. Once again her attack was swift, the five beams shooting forth and the converging into one. The Solar Beam managed to blast away some of the Stun Spore, but the pause between her last attack and her current one was just a tad too long. Cherrim shuddered as she could feel the paralysis course through her system. Luckily it was overwhelming as her Solar Beam had managed to obliterate the paralytic cloud before too much of it could have infected her. The paralysis could be a problem, Gardenia thought, but she and Cherrim would muscle though it!

"Uh, thanks," Katie said, scratching the back of her head a bit in embarrassment. From the angle she was on, she couldn't tell how effective the Stun Spore had been, but there was really only one way to find out. She grit her teeth again as another Solar Beam was charged up and promptly fired at Seraphim again, and all she could see was her Roselia backpedaling as fast as she could in order to put some distance between herself and the Cherrim. Seraph cried out as more solar energy burned her, again not as effective as it would have been against other Pokemon, but still. "Are you okay?" Katie called, and the Roselia nodded. "Good then, let's try another Sludge Bomb!"

Seraph's roses became encompassed with a purple glow and she brought them together, sending another thick glob of gross purple goop speeding towards the Cherrim.

The duo found the trek back to Sandgem Town nearly as dull as it had been on the way there, with the only notable difference being the pair's encounter of a wild Bidoof - or rather a chubby-brown-bucktoothed-mouse-thing, as Jake had called it, seeing as he had no way of knowing what its actual name was. Regardless, Turtwig had taken care of it in quite a timely fashion, deploying what looked like a Tackle, but only with a lot more power behind it. The little brown Pokemon had recoiled from the hit and promptly fled into the nearby undergrowth, leaving Jake and Turtwig to get on with their trip.

By the time they'd arrived at the lab again, both Jake and Turtwig's stomachs were growling louder than any wild Pokemon ever could. The two shuffled up the walkway and entered the lab, Turtwig practically collapsing on the floor of the foyer the moment the door was shut behind them. "Professor?" Jake called wearily, kicking off the old wooden sandals. "We're back," he added, picking Turtwig up off the floor.

”Crap!” Claire cursed to herself as the scene exploded before her. She quickly averted her gaze from the blast but as soon as she turned back a surprising blue and white streak shot out of the haze and smashed straight into Espeon. “Nice job, Kokoro?” Claire finished in mild bewilderment. The thing before her was no longer a tiny fire mouse, but a sleeker, larger Volcano Pokemon: Quilava. “Kokoro, you evolved?” Claire exclaimed excitedly.

Of course I evolved. I need to keep you in check!” The Qiulava retorted as she blew a small stream of flames from her mouth in indignation. Claire gave a startled squeak, though no one else would notice it, as she hadn’t remembered that her Pokemon could talk via her Extrasensory powers.

”Oh wow! Congratulations, you’ve got a feisty Pokemon there! It seems like our training is already paying off for you. I'm... I-I’m so proud!” Moti exclaimed as he began to wipe the tears forming in the corners of his eyes.

“C’mon Momo! We’re still battling here!” Yang spoke as she got herself up off the floor and stretched her muscles-that Quick Attack had been pretty strong!

“Oh right, well then, let’s give ‘em another Swift and see if this new Quilava can smash down your attack this time!” Moti ordered as he pointed at the battlefield once more. Yang nodded and quickly formed her trademarked pink Swift and began to launch the stars at various angles so as to make them harder to block. Eventually, they homed in towards Kokoro in a 3D pincer shape.

”Think you can take it down?” Claire asked as she tried to formulate another strategy for breaking through the attack. There wasn't much they could do to block the stars except for with one of Kokoros attacks, of which it seemed like Extrasensory was the only option.

You bet I can! The Quilava added as she began to have her normal golden glow. She could feel the increased power as even more psychic energy seemed to form out of her new body. Soon the pink Swift attack was also engulfed and each of the stars was promptly smashing into the ground and exploding on contact. The Volcano Pokemon smirked, although now that she had managed to block the swift, she was beginning to feel a little tired from all the ruckus and tricks she'd been trying to pull.

"Sounds like a plan," Miharu nodded, motioning for Sparkle to follow after her, and she did, tottering along at her trainer's heels and looking quite pleased with herself. Miharu smiled down at the Flaaffy, her thoughts also revolving around the electric type's possibly pending evolution. She'd caught Sparkle when she was still a Mareep, but she hadn't stayed in that form for very long. She wasn't sure how much longer it would be until she evolved again, if she chose too. Then again, she might just be waiting for the right inspiration, like Lily had. Miharu smiled at the thought of her Pokemons' evolutions throughout her journey, looking over at Sam as she asked a question.

The green-haired girl gave a slight frown, and then shrugged. "I really didn't want to be a trainer," she said as they stepped outside, and began making their way to the Pokemon Center, Sparkle still at her side. "To tell you the truth, I would have rather stayed home and pained all the time. A year after I won my Beldum from the Cherry Blossom Festival, my dad basically kicked me out," she said, giggling at the memory. "Well, 'kicked out' is a harsh way to put it, but that's more or less what he did. He gave me pale green egg, and told me to go out and make a name for myself. I haven't been home since..." she trailed off a bit, wondering how well her father had been faring at home without her. "What about you?" she asked, looking over at Sam again before her memories could get the best of her. "How did you become a trainer?"

Glancing up from his research Rowan watched as the kid and Turtwig came inside. Getting up from his stool he headed over to the two looking down at them both with mild interest. "Did you deliver the package?" The two of them were looking a little bit weary but Rowan didn't really care to much. In all honesty he hoped the task was done so that he didn't have deal with his old friends daughter, she was just a pain.

~~~~~~
Slowpoke stared up at Robin while Tony Tony picked up a stick and drew two crude drawings of each on the ground. "This one is Slowbro and this one is Slowking."
Slowpoke stared down a the two drawings with wide eyes as his trainer leaned over his shoulder and stared at both of them. "Oh wow they both look so cool. As cool as the hat is you can pick whatever one you want." Robin grinned upside down at her pokemon before pointing at each of them. "That ones the smart one right and that ones the defensive one right?" Robin asked pointing at each of them.
"I can't believe you remembered which one was which." Tony was actually surprised as Robin grinned up at him. As the two bantered a little Slowpoke just stared at the two trying to make up his mind. He had never expected to be given a choice, then again that was one of the benefits with having a trainer. All of his friends and family had evolved into Slowbro. He was tempted in picking that but there was something that was pulling him towards the Slowking. If he ever went home he could show his family and friends how he had evolved into something so smart. Scooting forward he stood over the Slowking one and let out a long and slow 'Poooooooke'
"Eh?" Robin and Tony looked down to see that Slowpoke had picked. "Slowking? All right then Slowpoke, Slowking it is! Now how do I do that?" Robin asked turning towards Tony Tony with a big grin on her face.
The Sludge Bomb looked pretty deadly, but Cherrim hadn't taken a blow yet. Gardenia was certain that she'd make it out of the attack all right, should the paralysis kick in. "Try and dodge it Cherrim! Then use Magical Leaf!" Gardenia commanded. Again the Grass type attack wouldn't be the most effective against Katie's Roselia, but the attack was sure to hit and it was a lot less risky than going for a Tackle where the paralysis could kick in at any time.
The status effect was so annoying! Cherrim could feel herself slightly restricted. Her movement certainly had been reduced. The Blossom Pokemon tried her best to dodge the oncoming Sludge Bomb, though her limbs seized up and she took the attack head on. Stupid Stun Spore! The poison stung and soiled her perfectly pink petals. The sludge dripped to the floor after dealing some severe damage to the Grass type.
Gardenia nodded as she watched the attack land on her Pokemon. Needless to say, it wasn't a pretty sight. The Gym Leader figured Cherrim had a few aces still up her sleeve despite the paralysis. She was a tough Pokemon after all! "You're not half bad Katie!" Gardenia winked, thoroughly enjoying battle, "But we're not going down that easily!"
"...I guess I do." Shiro agreed, feeling his heart bat quicken when Riza draped her arms around his neck and kissed him. Whatever effect she had on him was still working strong, his pulse didn't race like that for anything else. Not when he burned his wound shut, not when he was running from his hallucinations, not even during the battle with Team Rocket, or even during gym battles. Usually events like that just bring out a heightened awareness, thoughts concentrated and the world slowed, hell if anything his heart rate slowed down. But her body so close to his, the sound of her voice, simple things that were nothing compared to the other stuff, yet that was the thing that got his mind fuzzy and his blood going. Odd as it was, it was also nice. He nodded and gave in finally, smiling a little. She was right, over thinking did make his head hurt sometimes. But it wasn't something he could help. His constant thinking wasn't something he could stop, his brain just refused to stop no matter how much he tried. He was still contemplating her words when Riza decided to make the move for the contest hall. "Alright, you lead." He had no clue where the contest hall was, so it was good that she knew. Though at the same time he thought she was a little over zealous as she practically ran outside. Normally he would have walked keeping her in sight, but seeing as they were trying to make a deadline and that he was feeling good right now, Crenu decided to run after her to the contest hall.
