I know how you feel... I can actually sympathize with this one (though it wasn't through Starbucks). Next week I have something like that coming up where I work every damn day unless you count Sunday in there, in which I don't. I have this Saturday and Sunday off, then the next day off after that is Monday. I'm freaking pissed. Yeah, it gets me a lot more hours than I usual get, however, why couldn't she have made it so I had more eight hour shifts in there instead of having me work a full week?! And most of them are freaking closing shifts. This is just really pissing me off.

I know I'm lucky to even have a job because of the unemployment rate, but still..this just ******** sucks.

So...we're supposed to be getting that foot of snow today. My mom doesn't think it'll happen, but who knows. I mean, there was a year when we had a really bad ice storm in April and the power was out for days. It's possible, so I guess we'll see. I kind of hope it does because then the buses will stop running and I won't have to go to work. But, on the other hand..if it does snow and it isn't a lot I'll have to go. I'm just..dreading next week. I don't have one day off unless you count the Sunday coming up. The week after though, I only have like 12 hours. It sucks, but the 31 hour work week makes up for that I suppose. But still, why can't she just schedule me more eight hours instead of spreading it out to four or more every day. I'm really getting pissed off with the closing shifts too. I'm getting sick of it all. I want to quit, but I can't... The unemployment rate is really high right now because of all the businesses closing in the area ******** to bed now. I'm still keeping watch out for other jobs but..no one is really hiring here. My mom says to wait another month or so and they probably will.

Take a look at temp agencies. Not only do a lot of them have part time but regularly scheduled positions as well as full time ones, but some companies just flat out pay temp agencies to handle their hiring for them. Also, you'll have the chance to try out a few different types of job and build experience/find out what you really want to do/try new things.

And even if you just get stuck in some temporary light industrial job, you'll at least be building a good job work history and pulling in better money than you are right now. 35-40 hours a week of 9-10$ an hour has gotta be better than what you're getting now.

That's a good idea actually...didn't think about that before. I started out with working at a couple different temp places.. My only problem is that I need it on the bus line otherwise I'm screwed and would have no way of getting there. I'll try holding out until the end of this month before I start looking more into that being I'm so busy with work. I'm thinking about going back to the last temp job place I had to see if they will sign me up again..they were pretty good, people were nice, etc.

So, I'm driving home from work this morning, and my Check Engine light comes on. I calll Stream, and he tells me to go to this auto parts store and have them use their diagnostic machine to see what the problem is. I get a little printout and everything. Now, to find a mechanic. The place I want to go to is booked up (they're good, that's why), so I try the Firestone that's nearby.

I hand the guy the slip, and the counter shark tells me that the slip doesn't tell them anything, that they need to run a full diagnostic and it would cost $109.

eek

WTF!? I smell a scam. So i went home because I worked all night and am very tired.

My poor car... crying

What kind of car is it? I know my mom has a problem with hers (Ford Escape I believe) where the check engine light comes on every time it rains. There's something wrong with one of the six values, it backfires or something..but we don't know which one it is yet. She found this out the other day when bringing her car to someone at the university she works at. To replace the boot (I guess that's what they call it), it's five or six bucks or something..so really cheap. But the other things..I forgot the name, but there's six of them..to replace all of those would be over $500, probably more than $600..but to replace just one if they were able to find the thing misfiring, it'd only be $150 or something (this guy is probably cutting a deal with my mom too being they seem to know each other). So, if that's the kind of car you have..it's a defect in all the models. sweatdrop

I'd prefer retail to the library, mostly because I work two areas: ILL and circulation. Circulation is pure "customer" service, for spoiled rotten college students (ugh, private school), bitter old people, and very hurried teachers who don't understand what "We can't do that" means.
At least in retail I'd get paid more and maybe get a discount.

Kids these days only think about money, where is the quality service? *coughs*

We had something at work once, I was talking with the security guard a while ago and someone came in that wanted a new password. That's fine and all but he couldn't identify himself, which basically means we can't help him, since we can't give passports to people that can't even prove they're really who they say they are.

The guy started screaming and yelling at the lady who was trying to help him on the other side of the table, never seen something like that. Apparently our service wasn't good enough. confused

Well, I get paid minimum wage and get a discount..so I don't know. For the stuff I do, I don't earn enough money. However, minimum wage is supposed to be going up to $7.15 this summer.
