In the beginning, Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura are 12. By the end of the first part, they're 13, then the time-skip takes place, and for Shippuden they're 15.

Before we get to the meat of this:

Mala - You forgot to mention underage. I never gave a s**t about Naruto (expecting me to care about anything that runs longer than 50 episodes is pretty damn near impossible), but seriously, isn't he like 12?

Anyway.

In response to Stream's first post, I present a macro.

Speaking of Naruto...

KOMO-TV, the ABC affiliate in Seattle, Washington, reports that a 10-year-old boy has been in critical condition at a local hospital, after being buried headfirst in a sandbox in an imitation of scenes from the Naruto anime series. Cody Porter was playing with five other children in a family friend's backyard in unincorporated Everett on Saturday when he reportedly asked them to bury him in a one-foot-deep sandbox from his head to his chest. According to Porter's half-brother whose three sons were with Porter, the incident was an attempt to recreate the attacks used by the fictional ninja from Naruto's Village Hidden in the Sand.

Porter is said to have thrashed around before the other children realized there was a problem and called for adults. The adults summoned medical help and adminstered CPR to get Porter breathing again. Medics took Porter to an Everett hospital and then to the Children's Hospital of Seattle. The broadcast television version of KOMO-TV's report included clips from the Naruto anime series and a description of the "sand ninjas."

Kids are stupid sometimes.. sweatdrop But that reminds me of the whole thing Spencer's is going through with the media coverage.
Well, I've got to admit that when I was in the Spencer's at the local mall I was stunned to see sex toys (they usually just had furry handcuffs and stuff like that). Not that I'm offended by sex toys or anything, but I can certainly understand where these parents are coming from. I saw stuff in Spencer's that I've only ever seen before in porn shops.

But as for the Naruto thing...it reminded of all the kids who put sheets on their backs and jumped off of their roofs in imitation of Superman. I want to know where these kids' parents were when they were burying this kid's head in the sand.

I can understand where they're coming from too.. However, with our store..if the adult area was moved behind the counter that would be a hassle. It would still be in eye view of the kids. Sure, they wouldn't be able to get to it as easily, but the store I work at is actually the highest volume store in our region (probably not in the states because I'm sure Cali has bigger ones than the one here) and the LUV STUFF as we call it is kind of a big area. Some of the stuff would have to include bachorlette items though because of the p***s necklace, etc.

I can understand parent concern, but..in all actuality, putting the stuff behind the counter would be a loss because if we're trying to ring in customers, others that want to look at that stuff would have to wait and we'd get a lot of angry people on our hands because everyone would be in the way, etc. I'm not trying to make excuses..but it's just how I feel. I mean, I do my best to keep the whole idea of age in my mind when selling that stuff. I sold some flavored condoms to some younger people before..they were probably around 15 (I'd hope), but I thought it'd be better to have safe sex than none if they were going to do it. I don't know. I might have been wrong there.. But I do my best to keep kids out of that area (though, by kids it's mostly when I can tell they're around 12 or younger..I've stopped them from going in the back before).

Spencer's is for embarrassing the living hell out of your kids by going in there with them. I know this for a fact.

Seriously, though? I don't REALLY think Spencer's should have that stuff in such a public location, but.. rather than making their main move to shut down the stores, shouldn't the parents be focusing on teaching their kids why not to buy such things at such an age?

I know a lot would respond that 12 year olds shouldn't be getting those kinds of discussions yet, but the fact is that we're learning about this stuff earlier and earlier. Hell, I'm pretty damn sure I knew more than just the basic "birds and bees" when I was 12.

It's a lot better to tell them about s**t than to stick to outdated ideas of when kids learn things, and end up having them make reckless decisions..

Well, I can attest to the fact that the whole "don't tell the kids and they won't do it" is totally false. After all, when I was in school, there was no such thing as sex ed. The nuns just assumed that if no one told us about sex, then we wouldn't do it.

Well, the stereotype about Catholic school girls had to come from somewhere... rofl

I can vouch for the various discussions my friends and I had during choir practice concerning all manner of sexual acts.

Really, the best bet is to give kids all the facts, the good and the bad. I tell my clients that the best way to prevent pregnancy and STDs is to simply not have sex. But if they're going to have sex, then to be safe. Use condoms. Take birth control (some of my clients REALLY need to take this advice!!!).

For my parent, it's Hot Topic.
But my mother says I'm never allowed to speak about it. *stays silent*

I really don't think kids need to be buying dildos and c**k rings. I don't know if all the stores carry things like that, but one near us does. I had to wait until I was 18 and so do they, damnit!!

Well, no, I don't think they should either. But I wonder how much these parents have talked to their kids about it.. like, I've been in Spencer's before. I have never had an urge to buy a d***o candle or strip-Risk or whatever.

It's good that they're trying to get the crazy sex toys away from public shops. But. It seems too likely, given parents today, that this is the only step they're going to take to prevent their children doing stuff outside of "DON'T, 'CAUSE I SAID SO."
