I had my solo ensemble last week...
I was sick though, so my solo sucked and I have to play it in front of my class now...
But otherwise my duet got a 1 and our Jazz Band was so good we're going to state(We got a 1*). Plus being the only flute in our jazz band is pretty sweet.

None of the three crying Evil Mr. Rainy and Mr. Alvarado won't alow it. A few years ago they made our flute playing drum major learn a new instrument because they were sick of her playing flute in jazz band, so for that she learned to play tenor sax. How evil can they be!? I wanna be in jazz band, but I don't want to change instruments. As for solo and ensemble, I will never go to one of those. I get too nervus, and it costs too much money. We have to pay the piano acompanist $35, and it's $5 to join. It's such a rip.

Not letting flutes in jazz band has nothing to do with being evil, it has more to do with there hardly being any flute parts. They just don't generally have flute parts written for jazz music. Same with clarinet. That's why it's good to double... then when a flute part DOES pop up, you can play it. That's what we do in my jazz band... whenever we get a song with a flute part, I play it. The rest of the time I play sax. That way, we don't have someone sitting around only playing once in a blue moon.

That should be fun. xD My ensemble had to play in front of our band class as well. Plus now we're playing at a program called KIA ((Kids in Action)) and two elementary schools. w00+. You're the only flute in your jazz band? That does sound pretty sweet. In our varsity jazz band they pretty much accept anyone who wants to be in, therefore we have have about 4 flutists who sound like crap and are constantly out of tune. Anyways, good luck at states! Hopefully you guys get a 1 there as well.

Besides, the band directors hardly ever pull up anything with flute parts for jazz band. It sucks big time.

My school had solo and small essemble on Saturday. It was pretty cool, even though I didn't do it this year a bunch of my friends got 1's... I was way to busy to do it this year sad . But hey I can look forward to this coming up years' concert band competition on Wednesday (of this week) and to send in a tape to a huge hotel in Lake Of The Ozarks to take our band there.

Hmm.. I don't think you'd forget how to play an instrument you've probably spent years learning how to work that easily... Even people who put off band for a few years can still manage to get it together again with a bit of time. =) SoCcErShOrTy08 My school had solo and small essemble on Saturday. Ah, well that's good for your friends. =) Hopefully you'll be able to experience it next year! It sounds like you'll have a blast at your concert band's competition though, good luck! @kakashi_gurl_fan: Welcome to the thread. =P

silverswordzero XD You know what'd be cool? An international meeting of flutes. ...or national. I dunno if I'd like to meet a flutist who couldn't speak English. o.O I'd like to meet more flutists! What can I say?! v_v I agree, it'd be nice to meet more floutists serious about the music.
By the way, there already are national conventions, if you join the NFA (National Flute Association). =)

gonk / heart It's official guys I'm quiting the flute. I hate my conductor so I'm singing in the choir instead. I'm trying out for drumline in marching band so no more of that. I'll be here until the end of this year but besides that I'm basically quitting unless I randomly pick it up some day (that probably won't happen too often anymore though because I'm going to be concentrating on 2 new forms of music I've never played (line)/haven't used in nearly 2 years (unless you count musicals, I haven't used my voice seriously in almost 2 years) crying )

I really love playing the flute though, so the band director doesn't really matter to me. I mean they do matter, but it's not like they can affect my decision as to whether or not I continue with playing or not. It's nice to know that you'll still hopefully be in a band though. Choir seems like a fun class as well, I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself. =)
