"Yeah," he grinned cheerfully, happy to have found something to do that she would enjoy. "C'mon. I wanna get a closer look at that book about sword technique in the display, anyway."

They entered the store, the low smell of must and paper and ink rising in the warmth of the small room to greet them as they closed the door behind them. It was lit by a couple small lamps that cast an orange glow over its many shelves and boxes. An older man stood up behind the counter as he noticed them, giving them both a welcoming smile and nod.

"It's nice in here," Baran commented, brushing bangs from his face. "It's getting pretty windy outside."

Ana blushed deeply at the gesture and the touch and glanced at the ground, murmuring a soft thanks. Liozu's jacket was soft, she noted, and warm with his body heat. She could feel her heart pounding faster than ever before, and she wasn't sure whether or not to try to slow it back down.

"I, um, wh-where, um..."

Tilting his head, Liozu gently urged Ana forward with a hand in the small of her back.

"I haven't thought on it, have to confess. Anywhere you've planned to go on a free day? We could go there, if so. Or, there's a rather nice park down in the city. Not as large as the castle grounds, but quite quaint," with a smile, Liozu shrugged, annoyed with having to play it so cutsey. He could do that, of course, but... Ah, nothing for it. And if they went to that park... Well, it might be in the middle of the city, but it would be quiet, and they'd mostly, maybe even wholly, be alone.

Celia just nodded in reply. She was far to captivated by the possibility of new books to really say anything. Before she realized what she was actually doing, she took his hand and pulled Baran over to the window to get a better look at the book in the window he had mentioned."Can I?"she asked, looking to the owner after feeling that maybe she should ask before picking up what looked to be a very old but well-used book.

When he nodded, she instantly picked it up, and opened it, before smiling quite a lot. "ohh....hey, look at this one Baran!!"she said in her usual quiet tone, but also very excitedly. As it turned out, the tome was full of diagrams on how to properly execute all of the techniques listed within its pages.

"Hey, that's pretty cool," Baran said, sounding genuinely interested in its contents. "This thing must be pretty old. And look how detailed it is! Wow," he bent down to take a closer look at its yellowing pages and squeezed her hand lightly.

Ana nodded quickly, not trusting herself to speak. She shifted her sketchbook closer to her chest, looking at the ground disappearing under her feet.

"I--"

The word was soft enough to have been a breath of air, but Ana got the feeling that Liozu had heard her and knew she had been about to say something. Oh, this was bad. She was always this quiet around new people, but she wanted so badly to not seem like an utter fool and that meant making polite conversation.

"I... um... I mean, that would be nice. I mean, going to the park."

"Thank you all for coming this late." Jett seemed nervous, pacing in front of the window as the sun slowly sank into the trees. "...I should have told you all this a long time ago... But...I've been cursed..."

((DUN DUN DUUUUUUN!))

There was a a long moment of awkward silence in the room broken only by Jett's footsteps on the floor.

Aiketh felt a space inside her chest squeeze tight as her breath fell off at her lips. The Lord was cursed? Why hadn't she known this? More importantly, she reminded herself (it was his choice, he must've had a good reason, he must've had a good reason...), for how long had he been in danger?

For that matter, what sort of curse was it? For how long had his citizens been in danger through him?

No one had spoken yet and the dull tap-tap-tap of his feet on marble tile was still repeating in the background. It was soothing in its repetition and maybe, maybe if she didn't press it he would explain himself and she would see that it had all been for the best... Aiketh's head jerked very slightly back and forth as she forcibly drew a deep breath. No. No, that would be irresponsible for her. She was in charge of matters of security and this fell well into her duties.

"Please, my lord, explain further."

Celia smiled, glad to have found something that Baran could like too. They flipped through the book for a minute or two, until celia realized that they still had to get to the restruant. "Do you want to come back....?"She asked rather quietly, not wanting to influence him, but really kind of wanting to.

"Let me show it to you, then. It seems to be rather popular with the citizens of the city, though, as I said, at this hour it'll probably be mostly empty, and you can take it in without anything much disturbing you," Liozu said with a smile and streered them towards the park, winding down through the streets and passing a pair of book shops. Liozu barely spared them a glance, but did catch sight of a jewellery show that she normally would have slipped into. Jewels were good for chanelling magic, after all.

This night, though, it would have to wait. And besides, he wasn't sure if a city in the areas ruled by the vermin would have anything of value to her. Liozu was pleased to see he had been able to leave his hand at Ana's lower back, not so much as pushing, or even showing her the way, as rather resting the hand there, physical support as it were.

"I think I've seen a lot of children, there, too, usually. Do you like children, Ana?" Liozu asked, curiously. Time, even to someone who could survive outside a body and thus necessarily weren't bound to normal motral immortality (children), still tugged on her. And even before he'd seen Ana, the thought had laid in the back of her mind, a worthy end, especially if she could end the Dragon Lord's line. The blood of the Dragon Lord coming to an end, while hers... continued. It was a bright and glorious thought.

And there it was. Finally out in the open. Groaning, Kushina rubbed her face and hoped that was the last of Jett's secrets. They, literally, had trouble brewing (or was that maturing?) in their midst. Fantastic, Kushina thought with a sour, metal grimace.

"Huh?" Baran glanced up at her face, then at the clock hanging on the wall. "Oh, s**t. Yeah, I guess we should get going," he laughed, eyes lingering on the pages of the book. "I'd like to come back after we get something to eat, though. I've never been in here before," he admitted, "but it's interesting."

((Chibi, your posts really tend to creep me out. heart ))

"Ch...children?" Ana asked, eyes widening slightly. "Oh, yes... I never had any brothers or sister but I used to watch my younger cousins." She smiled, relaxing slightly for the first time that night. "Both my parents had siblings with children younger than me. I spent a lot of time with them. I remember this one time when my uncle and his wife went on a business trip out of town and I was supposed to watch their three kids for six days..." Ana's voice trailed off as she thought back to the time before she worked at the Dragon Castle.

"Oh, wow," one of her hands flew to her mouth as she turned a deep shade of red. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to go babbling on like that..."

Celia's face absolutely lit up. "Alright, then lets go!"She said with a warm smile, standing up, and setting the book back down where it had been delicately. She smiled just a bit more, and then kind of led Baran out of the store, still holding his hand.

((Sorry my posts have been all small and useless lately guys. Long story. BUT, I will try harder now!))

Grinning rather broadly, Baran followed Celia until they were in the streets and he had enough space to walk beside her. Oh, yeah. This was what a date was supposed to be like.

"There it is, up ahead," he said, pointing with his spare hand. A fairly small restaurant/bar was glowing with a dim orange light from the many lights inside it on the corner of the street. Darkened shops were on either side of it, and a couple shuttered windows above it gave the impression that whoever owned it also lived on the property.

Holding the door open for her, Baran let them both inside and into the cheerful, if somewhat noisy, restaurant part of the establishment. "We can take a table," he said, letting his eyes skim over the crowded room. "How about that one in the back?"

"Alright,"Said Celia happilly. The restruant was noisy in a way that made it clear everyone inside was having a good time. They made their way with a little difficulty due to the constantly shifting crowd over to a little table next to a window with a relatively good view of the small court yard/garden outside. It was lit by little white hanging lamps, leading people outside down paths around the garden. "Oh pretty...."said Celia when she had realized what she was looking at through the window.

'She finally seems to have calmed down...'thought kahaku, as he scurried off of Celia's neck, and then flew into the rafters to watch the room from above.

Looking out the window in imitation, Baran noticed she was right: it was very pretty outside. There were many couples and a few families eating dinner under the light of the miniature lamps. The lamps reminded him a bit of stars, although those real ones were becoming hard to see now behind the bright lights from below and the thin cloud cover above.

"Um," Baran started, drawing himself back to reality and looking around for a waiter, "what would you like to eat? I haven't been to the non-bar part of this restaurant that often, but I know that the food is good. Their salads are nice and so is the fish. Don't worry about the price," he added quickly, glancing into her face, "I've got it covered."

"Are you sure?"she asked, not really wanting to be any kind of a bother. She looked over the menue, honestly a bit suprised by how many different dishes there were. She looked from top to bottom on every page, finding a pasta that looked good, and was fairly inexpensive....Even if Baran said price wasn't an issue, she still wanted to be polite.

"Have you ever had this..?"she asked, pointing to it on the menue, hoping Baran might have tried it before. She was quite interrested to know if it was good or not. It from the description, it seemed to have an Alfredo-like sauce.

"Uh, sorry." Baran rubbed the back of his head embarrassedly. "It should be good, though. Both times I ate here I got their pasta and really liked it."

Honestly, he was kind of glad she wasn't going all out. While he would have enough to cover pretty much anything on the menu... and would probably be able to barter for some sort of discount to cover anything that went over... Baran didn't really want to spend all of his money on dinner. With any luck, there'd be enough left over for him to be able to buy her a book from that store they had wandered into.
