Kilik threw his arms up to shield himself from the intense heat. He had to admit, Mike's frantic giggling was getting a little creepy. "Cable!" he barked, planting his feet as hard as he could against the Gym floor. The Electabuzz looked up with a smirk, clenching his fist. The attack was certainly impressive, and he admired just how powerful his rival had grown since their days as Magby and Elekid. He put his arms over his head to block his face. As the pillar of lava came crashing down on his head, he held resolute. He clenched his teeth against the immense heat then burst out of the pillar with a yell. The attack left him panting heavily. He wiped his lip with his forearm.

Man! Kilik thought, wiping sweat off of his forehead. Napalm's incredible! And if he really does evolve... a chill went down the boy's spine, I can't imagine how much stronger he would become then! "Okay, Cable!" he called out, "We both know how powerful Napalm is, there's no denying that! Let's get in there and give him everything we've got! Attack with Thunderpunch!"

Taking a deep breath, Electabuzz focused a ton of his own electrical energy into his fist. He raised it up into the air and allowed the sparks to shower down over him. "Elebuuu!!" he cried out, running towards his foe with his fist drawn back. As he swung it forward at his target, a low rumble of thunder filled the arena.

-*-

"Thanks," he said to the compliment about his Shuckle. "I say we get a move on!" he looked at his two new 'friends' and smiled. "Yep! I mean, we could make it through the other side no problem if the three of us go through." He recalled all of his Pokemon except for his Banette, who was usually always out of his ball. "Cerulean City waits for no man."

"That is why you're going through there, right?" he asked, hoping to arouse any suspicious activity the two would have been up to. They sure look shady to me! he thought. "That's really the only reason to ever go through Mt. Moon." He'd known there was a Gym in Cerulean City, and that the Gym Leader was a total babe. "Unlessss...there's something more..." he got into Train's face. Then immediately into Carlos'. "HMM!?! Yes..." he backed up and put his hands behind his back.

"You two are clean!" he laughed, despite not feeling that they really were 'clean' at all...he'd have to wait...

"Heh," Jett grinned as he faintly heard the order for Rock Throw. It wouldn't help much. "River! Teleport!"

So River was right to expect this. And she knew Jett like the back of her paw, so she flickered away, the stone crashing harmlessly into the ground.

C'mon, River...

The Feeling Pokemon was up high. She was up high, above Nosepass, and she was rapidly descending. That second Teleport took a lot out of her, but not even Satan showing up would stop her at this point.

So River braced herself as she fell and hoped Jett knew what he was doing.

As soon as the battle ended, Ryka stood up to give the competitors a round of applause. Before she was able to reassure Riza that she did wonderfully, however, Riza ran off towards Cerulean. Ryka instead shot a small smile in her direction, followed by a wave. We'll see you there, Riza. Let's both do our best.

The more Riza's figure disappeared from eyesight, the more determined Ryka felt. The battle had been so invigorating, showing her a side of battling that she hadn't even known existed. As Fantina skipped her way back, Ryka couldn't help but skip a bit too.

"That was wonderful!" Ryka sounded a bit like an excited child. "I never knew you could battle in such a...beautiful way! Almost like a dance..." Her eyes glistened as visions of Pokémon Contests danced in her head. "That battle has given me a different view of Pokémon battles. I used to see them as only violent scuffles, but this.." Fantina looked just as wide-eyed and excited as Ryka, maybe even moreso. "Well, Miss Fantina, shall we go to the contest?"
PostPosted: Sun Jul 25, 2010 7:37 pm

"I'm so excited," Amy smiled, now calmly walking towards Cerulean's entrance.

They spent the better part of an hour training, and now it was just around noon... It was a beautiful day, to say the least. Pidgey cooed as they scurried around, and the general chatter from the city made Amy smile. She really wanted to find some more coordinators and meet some, perhaps make a friend or two.

But her real goal was obtaining her Contest Pass.

"It seems like a really good day, you know?" Amy asked the two Pokeball loyally following her. "I feel so ready for this! And to think, two days ago, we were hanging out with Scarlet and merely dreaming of this day..." Her grin widened as they strolled through the relatively calm city (compared to Goldenrod and Saffron, anyhow).

Amy had no trouble finding the contest hall and immediately entered, walking straight up to the reception counter. "Good afternoon!" Amy smiled at the woman seated at the desk.

"How can I help you?" the woman asked without looking up, franticly typing something into a computer.

"Um... I would like a Contest Pass, please!" Amy smiled. "My name's Amy Maple, if you needed it..."

"All right," the woman answered, sparing Amy a single glance. "It'll take a few minutes. I'll call you when it's ready."

"Thank you!" Amy smiled, and settled for wandering around the lobby, examining everything possible with great interest.

Mike roared with laughter as Cable was pressured by the intense flames from Napalm's attack. The sight of flames tearing through his enemies got his blood boiling like nothing else in the world. "Kya-ha ha! Feeling a bit hot?" His smile only grew wider as Kilik commanded Cable to do a Thunderpunch. "So Electabuzz get something like that...alright!" Mike snapped his fingers, a small spark shooting out. "Time to go tit for tat! Fire Punch, Napalm!"

Sasha shivered. Mike was getting all worked up. It was rather unsettling to see him so happy to inflict pain on someone's Pokemon.

Napalm took in a breath, drawing in power from the surrounding area. His body wavered with incredible heat. The Pokemon took off, each step causing burn marks in the ground. "Maaag..." Napalm growled as he raced forward, drawing his fist back. When it reached behind his head, it ignited. "MAR!" The flames seemed to throw his fist forward like a rocket as he aimed for the Electabuzz's face. No more games. Unfortunately the Magmar's estimate of Cable's speed was just slightly off, and instead of his fist connecting sweetly with the electric Pokemon's face, it caught Cable's fist. The two attacks clashed with an almost deafening sonicboom, and the two stood locked in a battle of pure strength. Flames licked Cable's face while Napalm was subject to the Electabuzz's fist crackling with electricity.

"Oh my!" Sasha exclaimed after covering her ears. The heat became almost unbearable, and the light caused by their two attacks made her have to shield her eyes. "I've never seen two Pokemon in such a clash! Z'his is incredible!"

"Pointless youthful dramatics." Blaine let out an unamused snort. "He should have used the Electabuzz's charge to his advantage and used a ranged move to keep him at bay. He's letting this silly rivalry get in the way of his strategy. If he even has one."

After quickly withdrawing from the loud bang from Napalm and Cable's attack, Camerae began to slowly creep out from inside his shell. This Kasiya seemed rather nice, her voice was so soft and sweet. The Omantye chanced a closer look, and dragged himself across Sasha's lap and onto the floor beside the girl.
PostPosted: Sun Jul 25, 2010 8:14 pm

Kilik felt himself get knocked back slightly by the force of the sonicboom generated from their fists clashing. A small ringing filled his ears for a moment and he shook his head. Man, oh man! Kilik laughed, his heart was literally about to burst out of his ribcage; he was so excited to see Cable and Napalm giving it everything they had.

Cable pushed hard, growling lowly. "Ellleee..." he buzzed, pushing his fist against his foe's even harder. The heat was rising and bullets of sweat began to trickle down the electric-type's face. For every action, there was an equal and opposite reaction - the harder Cable pushed, the more Napalm resisted. Thunder was rumbling even louder as sparks of electricity and tongues of fire fell to the ground. Yet he could barely even manage to overcome Napalm. What was happening? To steady his fist, Cable placed his other hand on his forearm, gritting his teeth even harder. The heat was becoming nigh unbearable at this point. He couldn't hold on much longer. Kilik had to think of something, and fast!

He could see Cable beginning to falter. He clenched his fists and watched the two of them, wondering where his outlet would be. C'mon Kilik, think think! Cable's got superior speed...And he needs to get out of there, quick! He saw Cable fall to one knee, yet he would not give in to his opponent. Quick...That's it! "Cable! Use Quick Attack to get behind him!"

A gleam appeared in Electabuzz's eye and he shot back like a bullet, before continuing around to the back of his rival, his fist still shaking with electricity. "BUZZ!!" he barked, slamming his fist as hard as he could into the Magmar's right ribcage from behind. It may be 'dirty fighting', but when it came to their battles...they never played by the rules.

Kasiya shrunk back in her seat, wishing she had a shell to withdraw into like Camarae. Mike's roars of laughter terrified her and she closed her eyes, trying not to hear it. There was some sort of bang from the battlefield and she flinched, wondering how Kilik was managing to remain down there in the arena. The girl opened her eyes and shook her head, feeling tears in her eyes. This was Mike she was talking about, how could she think that way? But as she looked at him, that crazed expression on his face, she knew that it wasn't him. And it was at that very moment that she realized that the Mike she knew and adored didn't truly exist anymore, and probably never would. She was hardly aware of what was going on with the battle anymore, and she glanced down at the ground, noticing that the Omanyte had moved. "What are you up to, little fella?" she asked, slowly reaching down and lightly brushing her fingertips along his shell. He felt a bit cool to the touch, despite the heat around them, and she smiled. "You're adorable, you know that?"

Turtwig was more than ready for this fight, as this would be his very first chance to prove himself to Jake. He pawed the ground and tried to act like he wasn't nervous, though when he looked over his shoulder at Jake, it was obvious that his trainer was a lot more nervous than he was.

Beth wasn't nervous at all about her first battle as a trainer and eagerly threw the new Pokeball that contained her Pokemon. "Let's win our first fight, Peaches!" she shouted as the sphere burst open, revealing a tiny white Pokemon with blue markings. It had round, yellow cheeks and a long furry tail which it proceeded to chase the moment it saw daylight. "Peaches!" Beth scolded. "Stop that right now, we're having our first battle!"

Jake watched the Pokemon with a raised eyebrow. It was so hyper, so cutesy. It seemed to fit Beth perfectly, though it appeared far more interested in playing around than battling. "Turtwig, go ahead and give it a Tackle," Jake said finally, deciding he was tired of watching the punk squirrel do laps around an invisible racetrack that was possibly only two feet long.

"Twiig!" Turtwig cried, hesitating for only a second before he charged forward. He had no idea what to expect when his attack hit but he braced himself, growling angrily as he threw his weight into the hyper little electric squirrel.

"Pachii!" The Pachirisu let out a surprised and pained squeak as it was suddenly ran over by a small, green tank named Turtwig, and it bounced back a few feet, its eyes as wide as Beth's.

Mike leaned over as he watched his Pokemon start to overcome his enemy. "Just a little more!" he cheered, clenching his fists tightly. His smile grew bigger as he watched Cable struggle under Napalm's superior strength. "Hahaha! Almost!"

Napalm gave his all into one final push, but the Electabuzz's sudden disappearance caught the Magmar off guard. He barely had a chance to catch himself before he felt something hit him hard in his back. He was already behind him! How could be be that fast!

"Grrr," Mike growled, snorting a small puff of black smoke from his nose. "That's okay because we have him right where we want him! Napalm! Lava Plume!"

He was right, with Cable this close there was no way he could get away from this. Napalm whirled around, so he could look into Cable's eyes as he blasted some respect into him. "MagMAR!" he cried as he practically exploded in flames, sending a massive wave of fire in an arc all around him.

Away from the battle, Camerae felt much safer. He liked Napalm, but didn't want to be anywhere near him when he was battling. That Pokemon could do things he couldn't even fathom. The Omanyte let out a gurgle, blowing some bubbles as Kasiya gently caressed his shell. He liked this girl. The Pokemon wriggled over to the girl and climbed into her lap, lightly suctioning onto her thigh.

"Teleport again," Roxanne mumbled, her voice drowned out by the roar of the Sandstorm. She looked up and sure enough, the Ralts had appeared high above Nosepass and was starting to free-fall towards the ground. 'This kid is crazy,' she thought, shaking her head. "Rock Tomb, Nosepass, and duck in with the rocks so they can't find you."

Nosepass nodded in confirmation before causing anther group of sharp spires to jut out from the ground, and then she jumped back, blending in perfectly with the rocks as she waited to see what would happen now.

"Zat iz a shame, she really did do quite well. Très bon, vraiment!" Fantina tisked as she sauntered back over to Ryka. "Aha, you are impressed as well, I can see it in your eyes!" the gym leader cried, clapping her hands. "But we must be going as well," she said, casting a mischievous glance in the direction Riza had gone. "I am sure those two amoureux would like their alone time, but! Il faut se hâter! Come, come, Ryka! We must continue to Cerulean City!" And with that she continued to stride forward, chattering on in French as she walked.
PostPosted: Sun Jul 25, 2010 8:52 pm

"River, watch out! Use Confusion!" That was still his original plan, but it did not include the Nosepass moving out of the way. So this is what gym leaders are like... not even that Leon guy was this good...

River blasted the rock spires with a telekinetic wave, pushing herself up so she could flip and land outside of the Nosepass' range. She was growing more fatigued by the minute, and she had barely landed a hit! The Sandstorm took its usual toll, and she grit her teeth.

Jett was at a loss. That was one of his back-up plans and it was risky enough. River was probably barely standing by now and then she would have to push further to defeat this thing. He wouldn't put her through that. With a stony face, he recalled the Feeling Pokemon and waited for the sandstorm to cease.

"I surrender," Jett said calmly, and he took a step forward. Normally, he would go on about how good a match it was and how great a battler Roxanne is, but not this time. His gaze met hers, eyes filled with resolve. "Three days. Give me three days to train, and I'll be back. And then, I swear to you, I will beat you." The slight quavering in his tone betrayed any possible arrogance it might've held, and he bit his bottom lip. Then he turned towards the door, intent on getting his Pokemon healed.

"Thank you for the battle."

"Cable!" Kilik cried out. That Lava Plume was a dangerous attack, and coming from a Pokemon as powerful as Napalm was, he knew that he had to somehow minimize the damage as much as he could. Yet due to Cable's close proximity to the Magmar, there was just no way he could get away from him in time to avoid massive damage. Napalm's Lava Plume is similar to my Discharge in many respects, but...I can't charge up Discharge fast enough, not at that range!

Perhaps this was karma's way of repaying him for that dirty attack he'd just done. He was blasted with the full force of the Lava Plume, being sent flying down the battlefield. He hit the ground, hard and slid a few feet before finally toppling over the side of the arena. "BUUU!" he cried out, grabbing the ledge of the arena with one hand. Panting heavily, he put his other hand up and grit his teeth. He could feel the lava below practically burning away at him.

"Cable!" he cried out again, looking over at Mike, then to the two yellow hands that were clutching on for dear life at the edge of the arena. He glared at the Magmar and began to shake with a mixture of fear and rage. "C'mon, Cable!" he yelled nearly at the top of his lungs, "Get up! Please!"

Hearing Kilik's cries, Cable used everything he could to pull himself back up onto the Gym floor, falling to his knees. He was panting heavily, his head up to look at Napalm, bullets of sweat dropping like rain to the floor in front of him. Standing up, wincing, Cable took a step forward. "Ele...buu..." he panted, his eyes never once leaving Napalm's.

There's no way I'd stop fighting...if it were any other Pokemon, I'd pull Cable out but this is different, he thought, straightening up, Napalm and Cable don't stop until the other has fallen. But there's no sense in thinking it over... "Cable, get some distance and attack with Shock Wave!"

Hopping back a few feet away from Napalm, he threw his hand up into the air and let a small sphere of electricity fly from his palm, which shattered much like his Discharge did previously, into many bolts of electricity that could never miss their target. As he watched his attack go, he clutched his arm, growling quietly.

The gravity of having the contract signed suddenly hit Jun. "Hell to the fierce yes!" he suddenly shouted in the streets, walking back with Posh. Jun danced a little. Shuffled his feet. Moonwalked. Cleared his throat under the cold, harsh glare of his Roselia, pouted a little, and continued walking by her side. "You /know/ you're just as excited as /I/ am," he half-sang, half-taunted, grinning wolfishly.

The Roselia allowed herself a tiny little smile before it disappeared and she glared at Jun again, this time conveying a message.

"Oh, money. Pshhhh. We wouldn't have this problem if /that man/ hadn't cut off all my sponsors. But whatever. We can do a grassroots fundraiser, you know?"

Roselia waited for him to continue. The silence enveloped them for approximately seventeen seconds.

"Wellll I was hoping you'd come up with a plan for it, I mean you're good at number crunching," Jun pouted. "Oh, we need another... $10000 you say? That's not too bad, only half of what a Fendi scarf would be -- oh, yeah, sorry, if I hadn't bought that Fendi scarf, we wouldn't be having this trouble right now, but pain is beauty, my love! We strive through strife for even greater levels of truth! It wouldn't do to have life too easy..."

Roselia glared.

"Okay okay okay. Um. No, I can't sell my Prada suit! I /need/ that for important occasions! Yes, all three of them. Okay, fine, fine, I'll market off the pinstripe one, you're right, it didn't flatter me anyways... No! Not my Luis make up bag. I know I don't use make-up, but it's so convenient for holding other things..."

This went on for a while, before Jun, fearing for his closet, stopped the bidding after he had agreed to return some of his more unnecessary purchases. They still needed another $4000, though.

The two were nearly at the luxury hotel that Jun had booked (he actually didn't spend money for this; rather, he blackmailed the owner of the establishment, since he had some rather incriminating photos of the man sneaking off with another woman, and not his wife, who had the actual property rights to his chain of hotels. How did he have some information? Jun had his ways. He had some sort of tab on many important contacts, and was not above using information against them... There was one evil man he had yet to destroy, but he'd have to play that one more tactfully, and when he had more power) when he saw a couple of trainers having a refreshing little battle.

"How to trainers make money to live?" He glanced at Posh, inquiringly. "So... losers generally give some cash to the winners. Doesn't look like much, though," he sniffed, watching the loser pull out a couple of crumpled bills and giving them to the winner. "Looks like more of a good gesture than an income. Wait. What did you say? .... Pardon? .... You want us. To fight. In a Gym. That's rich, Posh, rich.... Where did you find my favorite Bvlgari shirt?! No. You wouldn't dare. Get your paws off that silk right -- no no nononononononono NO! OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY we'll do it! We'll fight a gym match. Happy?" Jun snarled, snatching his precious shirt away. The seams had unraveled a bit, but it was still fixable. Jun whimpered as he entered the hotel room, flung himself onto Demi (who was still instructing the new Tangela about the proper manner of layering) and sobbed, "She's being meaaaaaaan to me againnnnnnnn!"

Demi looked at Posh, gave a little shrug as the flower grinned smugly.

Kasiya's eyes flickered back to the battle as Napalm unleashed another Lava Plume, and she winced, her gaze following the Electabuzz as he slid dangerously close to the edge, and if it hadn't been for his strong arms, he possibly would have fallen into the lava. Geez, these two sure know how to put on a show, she thought, looking down at the Omanyte as he'd made up his mind that she wasn't scary, and was busily climbing up on her lap. Knowing it couldn't be too easy to move around with only those tentacle... things she gave him a hand, unable to keep in a giggle as he latched on to her thigh. "Hey, that tickles," she laughed, though she was glad he wasn't biting her. Though she stopped and looked down at him - did he have any teeth in there?
=-=-=-=-=

"Hey, no sneak attacks!" Beth wailed, jumping up and down as her Pachirisu got back to its feet and shook itself, looking as though Turtwig had just offended her mother.

"Oh, sorry," Jake shrugged, his tone of voice far from sincere. "I thought you were ready." Turtwig had returned to his position in front of Jake, looking quite sorry that he'd attacked already.

"Whatever, we're gonna destroy you!" Beth shouted, pointing at Jake. "Go get 'im, Peaches!" The EleSquirrel Pokemon darted back to her starting position, bluish sparks flaring from its yellow cheeks.

It's an Electric-type then, Jake thought, though that thought was immediately followed by another thought that had him wondering how he knew that. Sure, the electricity coming from its cheeks was a dead giveaway, but it was more the fact that he didn't remember anything else that annoyed him. "Go for another Tackle, Turtwig," he said, ignoring the fact that his mind was now arguing with itself. "That seemed to work well last time."

"Twig!" the Tiny Leaf Pokemon cried, rushing forward once again. He was quite pleased by the fact that his Tackle had hurt only the Pachirisu, and not him. As he neared the white and blue squirrel, he threw his shoulder forward, hoping to send it bouncing around like before.

"No no no no, Peaches dodge!" Beth cried fearfully. The Pachirisu's ears twitched and she deftly hopped out of the way of the charging Turtwig, not wanting to be smacked around yet again. "Great work! Now let's show them some real power! Use Discharge!"

Jake winced. Discharge sounded like a powerful move. Perhaps that little squirrel was stronger than he thought? Turtwig hunkered down and braced himself as sparks flared from the Pachirisu's cheeks and it raised its little arms up high...

M.A. was silent for a few seconds after finding herself unable to translate her reaction to the story into words. She knew she felt sadness, but Mary-Anne's analytical brain couldn't define what shade of sadness she was feeling, and consequently couldn't figure out what would be appropriate to say. Of course, if she had to consider the old seaman's feelings, too, that just made it all the more difficult for her to respond properly. If his story had been a movie, if the director had been crafty enough, Mary-Anne's foggy eyes would have watered, the reservoirs would have threatened to spill over. In real life, having been so accustomed to perpetual contentment, she had little experience with tragedy and such wasn't sure how she ought to react. 'I'm sorry,' didn't seem right, seemed pitying and belittling. 'Are you okay?' seemed belated, foolish. And such was how well-meaning Mary-Anne over-analyzed the hell out of a minor situation. When M.A. wasn't blabbering on herself, her brain was.

She took the easy way out and noncommittally commented that it must have been a hard time for him, a wan smile on her face and a question mark almost lingering at the end of aforementioned comment; the smile was tacked on as a force of habit, not so much as a reassuring measure. But it worked as the latter.

The seaman nodded. Subconsciously, M.A. purred a bit, happy. Glancing at the window and the clouds, he broke the silence again to say, "Well, it looks like the rain's gonna hold up through half the night. I wish I had a car to take you back to town with, but I don't, Rosemary."

Mary-Anne smiled. "No, no, it's okay. Diego here can provide us an umbrella," she said, sweeping a hand in the direction of the Smeargle. To prove her point, the Painter Pokemon looped his long tail around his shoulders and drew an dripping-looking neon-green umbrella that bounced up and down on the fireplace mantle. Diego had recently been very good about his creations not dripping paint everywhere, and so the seaman's house remained spotless.

"I'd feel much too guilty about sending a young gal as yourself out there in this weather, it's gusty, there'll be mudslides... Please entertain and old man's worries and stay here a night. I don't have comfortable lodging, but I'm not a bad guy, you can trust me."

Without missing a beat, Mary-Anne chimed "Okay! Thank you." Even if he hadn't mentioned that she could trust him, she would have anyways; M.A. didn't think anyone would wanna harm her if she hadn't done anything wrong first, that sort of thing only happened to superheroes with arch-nemeses in movies. And she didn't really wanna venture into the cold and wet. Ulani, who had been forgotten for the last five minutes, still had her wings curled around Mary-Anne's head and until now had not peeped her own head up, as she rather hated thunder. She braved a peak now that the constant rumbling in the sky had subsided somewhat.

The seaman cried. "Your hat's alive!"

Mary-Anne's hand shot up, patting the fluffy expanses of the Swablu's wings. "Oh, yes, I'd be much more alarmed if she wasn't." With that the Swablu trilled a sweet note before ducking into Mary-Anne's hair again when lightning flashed across the sky. "Swablus are poor fashion statements," she added, almost apologetic; her normally pin-straight hair was huge and nest-like after Ulani's last movement.

Roxanne gave a knowing nod when Jett recalled River, and she recalled Nosepass as well, causing the Sandstorm to subside almost instantly. She walked across the stony battlefield and smiled at the young man. "It takes more guts to give in then to keep up a fight you think you can't win, I look forward to our rematch," she said. She watched as the young man headed for the door, and she had no doubt in her mind that when they battled again in three days, he would be walking away with her Stone Badge in hand.
