Joe leaned back. "Sleep. Yeah. Well, I understand what you're saying," he began to mumble slightly as his eyes closed. "Would you be willing to teach me a bit?"

Takeshi looked at Agnese seriously. "Peasants? Birth doesn't matter in the Cabal. Those distinctions don't exist any more. It's like Legion said. 'A king, his soldier, and his smithy all take up the same amount of space in a coffin; I care not for the names of those you were born of, but for the names of those you have slain.' Some of these 'peasants' have gone toe-to-toe with Abaddon. Fyrin uses a necromantic style Haru didn't believe existed until he saw it." Evidently, Haru was familiar with the skeletal Warlock. "As for warlocks and partners, I don't know too many of them."
Renard continued spinning his cube, but his magic output seemed greater for a moment.

"Haru?" Fyrin inquired. "I remember Haru. We did have some 'fun' together..." he said, falling silent a moment. Then he started again. "Did you ever do any research into soul manipulation, Haru? I thought you said you were going to look into it."
((Speaking of soul manipulation:
It stands to reason that Fyrin can't raise any significant number of servants just from souls he finds floating about. It stands to reason that since he must have souls, he'd get souls from Hell. It stands to reason that since this is true, his master would either give him souls or give him power to steal souls from other demons. It stands to reason, then, that I have no idea what sort of power this would be. Care to enlighten me, Venom?))

((Had some time. Thought it would be a good time for a long one. Yay, weekends!))
"Sure. Remind me when I wake up." Siber got up and went into the bathroom, making sure the little 'occupied' sign was up. Once there, he stared at himself in the mirror, his hands gripping the side of the sink until his knuckles turned bright white. Trembling as though he were facing death itself, he very quietly succumbed to the mental onslaught. This hadn't had a chance to happen until after he had encountered Kayla for the first time, and he was pretty sure remembering her had brought it on. That, and everything else crashing through his mind. He fought the urge, successfully, to cry out and break the damned mirror in front of him. He should be in college. He should be getting a degree. He should be changing people, changing the world, learning what he needed to know of academia to survive the harsh world of graduate school. His parents should know where he was, his "girlfriend" should know where he was, he missed his pets, and despite exposure to ridiculous new experiences, he had found no one who understood the way he acted and who would react in kind. Siber glared at the mirror. He was a liar and a schemer, clearly someone meant to work with Legion; he had murdered people, committed suicide, and entered a world of deadly politics. And whose fault was it? Legion's. Legion and Keldan had scared him into doing this, and the entertainment value had not countered how much he had had to change, to enact ideals whose psychological consequences he had clearly not fully considered. Keldan quietly asked. He had patiently allowed Siber his catharsis, sitting back and watching his mental workings until he came to a pause.
he pulsed his hands onto the sink, but any clattering would go unremarked,
Very quickly, he took care of his needs, arranged the looks of his person for optimal aesthetic value, washed his knife, and double-checked his inventory and where everything was. In a moment of fatherliness, he gave Siber a mental pat on the shoulder. The boy felt it and calmed down, glad for the touch of someone who, intangible and invisible as he may be, knew what he was. With no expression to betray his breakdown, Siber swept back into the main aisle, chose a seat at random, ordered a water from the frightened hostess, and closed his eyes, sighing out contentedly. True relaxation was good. He drank his water when it came and dropped off to sleep.

((Damned souls enter hell with a basically random distribution. As the basic resource of demons, it becomes highly advantageous to either control a large amount of territory or work for someone who does. The standard organization is a feudal sort of thing where demonic lords gather what falls on their fiefs, and pay a percentage to their liege. The largest landholders are, of course, the demonic warlords on the council. Fyrin, as a top general for Councilor Ma'krogeyna (pronunciation note in the Council section of the appendix), would receive first pick of the souls he wants to recruit, from all the vast lands the Councilor dominates.
Siber: *Chuckles at "Dropped a preposition"* I go insane having to leave them on for my less English-obsessed characters whenever I think of it.
And now, because that section went on for a good 57 pages when it really shouldn't have....))

The plane touched down in an airport reasonably near their destination. Cars were rented on Agnese's money and much insurance was paid for. They arrived in the city, an obscure little place, acquired a map and headed for the house, parking their cars on the street outside.
It was a quaint little place, the kind of place most people would imagine old people retiring to if they didn't go to Florida. White picket fences, a few preschools, a couple elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school, neatly mowed lawns and no shopping malls. They were at a two-story tall house that looked perfectly normal and cared for, save for the lawn overgrown with weeds.
"What now?" Takeshi asked. "Should we just go right in?"
"I don't trust this place. Something smells off about it," Gennady growled.
"Smells?" Renard asked. His nose twisted violently as he biomantically altered it. "He's right. Something is weird about this place." He returned his nose to normal.

((Hm. Siber, are you planning at all to have Siber and Paul talk about that? Because I notice that your little char development is, while differently played out, essentially the same basic thing.))
Fyrin nodded slowly. "It isn't right. I can't pin it down, but something's... different." His men were crouched behind the cars, their reflex sights whirling across window after window as they checked for threats to any of their party. Paul was about to do the same thing, but since he didn't need to, he examined the house. Shrugging, he made for the door. Fyrin stopped him about halfway. "Don't go first. I'll take the hit first, I'll be fine," Fyrin explained. Paul sighed, nodded, and took a few steps back as Fyrin approached the front door. A fireball formed in his right hand, while his left hand went for the handle. Paul: Condition: Green Mana: 90% Athena KR6: <42>/42/42/42/42/42/22 (Phase Ammo) Glock 26: <7>/11/6/1 (Explosive Ammo)

((I hadn't planned on it, but they could. Siber certainly isn't legitimately extroverted enough to intiate, though.))
Siber got off the plane feeling well-rested... finally. Jivat had approached him again while he was asleep and asked why he had lost his grip on control, to which he responded that he had had too little of a chance to implement his idea. Wordlessly, the dragonfly had left and Siber had used this unconscious opportunity to let Monoculous wander around for a while, as promised. After almost getting beaten to death by the brick in an old lady's purse ((similar to getting killed by a gun)), he had flown around the turbines, practicing his warping abilities for a while before heading back to Hell. Standing outside of the house, Siber had again coated his normal blade in poison, just in case it helped at all, and was standing ready with smoke bombs in one hand and Starburst in the other. Watching all the maneuvering intently while trying to decipher the signal he was getting from inside the house, he popped a wrapped candy in his mouth, unwrapped it with his teeth and tongue, and shoved the paper in a "trash" pocket. Whatever was going to happen, his sugar high was ready and raring to go.

Fyrin entered the door and a comparatively pleasant disappointment of their expectations happened. There was a very simple entryway. To the left there was a small room with a table and four chairs around it. Fyrin gave an all clear and the rest entered after him. They heard a creaking from the right, through a closed door.

Fyrin lifted his left hand, giving military-style hand-commands that anyone military (and probably even many non-military) would definitely recognize. To his men, he issued a comand to clear the room on the left. The rest he ordered (or inquired, rather) to stack up on the door with him. Gently he pushed Siber aside before he could go to the door; obviously he didn't want anyone else taking the lead and risking their lives, obviously unnecessarily. Moving to the hinges, he grabbed the handle, beginning to turn it. His right hand moved against his chest, the fireball still smoldering soundlessly within it. Slowly, he opened the door...

The room was empty. They filed in and began to spread out. The room had a few cabinets, and a wood coffee table stood between a leather couch and an old television on which a newscaster discussed the signing of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty by Reagan and Gorbachev.

Fyrin cocked his head slightly, examining the TV and listening with interest. He had the vague idea of what had happened while he was gone, but many major details were lacking, although he understood how it had all played out. He sat down on the couch to examine the TV.
Meanwhile, his four men and Paul all spread out, automatically deciding to check in the cabinets for anything of interest. "Is there something in particular we're looking for here?" Paul asked of anyone who happened to know the answer to his question.

"Helmsborough said there would be a way to defeat him," Siber said, "somewhere in this house. A way besides mortar on the skin and some other stuff." He walked around kind of aimlessly, checking out the furniture, and basically feeling very out of place breaking into someone's house and engaging in police action.

Jacob followed the others off of the plane, not saying much of anything. He followed until they entered a door off to the right. Everyone seemed to be looking for something. He wasn't sure what, but Siber said it was something that could defeat someone named Helmsborough. Jacob shrugged and began looking around, paying careful attention to the smaller nooks and crannies and feeling around for potential hiding spots.
