Anna, I have played and have beaten most of them, deciding to stop the whole cycle when I beat Diamond. The side event stuff is basically junk if they don't improve the system, which they never did. All they did do, was add a new feature or two, every once in a while, and change up the story a little bit to cloud over the fact that its the same game you've been playing since you started and keep getting suckered into paying $25-$30 USD for...
Also, sure, characters became more personable, but they do little to relieve the underlying, monotonicity of the series. There are always you and a rival. A professor who needs you to collect data along the way. Some preppy girl that acts as a comrade/rival every now and again. There are always eight badges to collect and the elite that you have to topple at the end of each game.
It's just sad to me how uncreative that whole process is and how they don't do enough with the system to make it enjoyable. At least Mario, another Nintendo bred monster, reinvents itself with every new game so it's not the same Mario style game you play every single time.
If they at least changed the system, revamped then whole game process and actually made the monsters not look like something that may appear from a pipe-dream, then maybe more people would be into it. And they should totally change the whole one-liner language thing for the Pokemon...god that gets so annoying...

I'm agreeing with you on the pathetic pokemon after the Johto introduction. They simply stopped trying at that point. The classic will always be the best, and there is nothing that will change that or my respect for it. The games now are simply okay but not anything special since they're all just ripoffs after Silver and Gold. Oh, and the anime is complete trash past the Kanto section.
I've played Ruby and Sapphire (one in real life and one with an emulator). They aren't memorable at all. Most people can name all the Gym Leaders of the original game (assuming they've played it at least once, which many people have at the time when the pokemon craze was justified in North America and at its highest). Now, when the games have gotten so monotonous with their many versions and same old same old plots, it just feels like Pokemon should have died by now.
But Rath, you gotta understand you're not helping yourself much by taking this tone with them. Trust me, I know what i'm talking about (okay, well, somewhat).

Ah, so the real issue here is not the lack of new content, it's the fact that you are unable to appreciate the new content. That's fine, it actually works out quite well for me since that turns the statement into an opinion rather than misinformation.
This monotonicity you speak of is rather amusing to me, especially alongside the "loud over the fact that its the same game" comment. That statement can apply to 80-90% of Shounen manga/anime as well; MC gets power-ups until he has to inevitably defeat the baddie. Over and over and over again; DBZ, Bleach, Naruto, Negima, D-Gray Man, etc etc etc. But we still read/watch them because it's fun. No one is fooled by the fact that Pokemon has the same, very basic plot to it; we're not idiots, we can see eight gym leaders and four people standing around inside some building/mansion in their flamboyant costumes for kicks. We see it, and you're right, it would be boring if it was the same exact thing each time; but it's not. I'm sorry that you feel that way, but you're wrong.
And I'm not even going to explore that Mario statement and instead refer you to Mario Bros through Yoshi's Island so that you can attempt to make that statement again, only correctly this time.

I'd be interested to see Dai and Rath make these same points in the Pokemon sub-forum in the AMC.
Hoo boy... >w>

Actually, now I see Anna's point on that. I myself can't understand the allure of doing Pokemon adventures over and over as other people like (past the classic ones) mostly because I just despise the new design styles of the pokemon and how generic and uninteresting they've become.

That would be suicidal. I would get blasted by everybody in there...I wouldn't last more then two seconds. I love debating, but I wouldn't stick a Pokemon hatin' finger in that forum...
Also, I have to heavily apologize to Ujiie if he saw my previous post before I can edit it. My beef is not with him and I quoted erroneously without looking at the source. My deepest apologies Ujiie. I'm a little on edge since my parents are out and I'm not exactly supposed to be on the computer right now.
And on the previous note, is everything okay Ujiie? You said in your post in main that you were very stressed. Do you wanna talk about what's bothering you?

I softly chuckled as I sat back up, standing up to then walk towards a small table, pulling out a few tea bags from my jacket pocket and dipped them in a hot cup of water, letting the water soak up the essence before I took a delicate sip, "Mmm..."

"Nothing puts the ladies to bed faster then a touch of Earl Gray. heart This be fancy material, love, and it'll treat you just right just as if you were top shelf, aye? Bring up the bargains and hit up your canes my duckies, we're on a hunt for down-right expensive teas that'll curl your lips and send yer pockets a-plummetin'." Had accomplished that entire dialogue in true British accent with a slight Scottish undertone.
