While Jun was undressing a Tangela in Floaroma, Mary-Anne and company were optimistically searching for any news of Diego's artist master in Canalave City. The scrawny brunette and her troupe split up into two groups which were both armed with portraits that Diego painted of his master, which had been crafted so intricately that they appeared almost as high definition photographs. But no one, from the immigration office to the general populace had seen the man, whose face appeared the archetype of a romantic, brooding artist.
Mary-Anne and Daemyn the Houndoom regrouped with Diego the Smeargle and Ulani the Swablu at the Pokemon Center at the designated time, at sunset. It was difficult not to be too discouraged after such a long day and combing the city for anyone who might know of Diego's master, but M.A.'s cheer, as always, was almost inexhaustible, and so she led her squad in to a much-needed dinner. Nurse Joy, passing by and noting how ravenous they appeared, curiously inquired what they all must have been up to to invoke such hunger.
"We're looking for this Smeargle's master. He's an artist who came out to this region from Hoenn maybe a year ago, on some early expedition before Sinnoh opened," Mary-Anne explained as neatly as she could between bites. She hadn't eaten since early this morning, she added apologetically. Growing up in a household of father and brother had given her occasional and mild deficiencies in feminine manners.
"An expedition, you say? Hmmm... I remember something of this." Nurse Joy's tone didn't encourage much hope to the listeners, however. "About a year ago, one of the greatest storms we've seen in the last decade hit. Canalave was safe from the waves thanks to the rocks breaking them early, but ships out there weren't as lucky. Two boats apparently collided, and the boiler of one must've caught on fire..."
Mary-Anne made a small sound.
"There was one surviving lifeboat, though. The captain, a little girl, and another man. That man might have been the one in this picture, but his face was terribly burned, so I can't be sure. The captain might know where he went, though. He lives in the lighthouse at the bay."
Diego's eyes gleamed with an intensely desperate kind of hope that Mary-Anne couldn't expect to understand and was almost astonished by. After having lived a perfectly content and guarded life at home with her brother and father, the drama of the current situation so resembled the drama of a TV show or something of that sort, and so death and the severity of missing, beloved persons seemed almost surreal.

"You know, sometimes I wish I could understand Pokemon," Amy said wistfully, glancing at Marshall. "I'd be so much closer to you and Flora if I could... but I guess it doesn't really matter."
Marshall was trying his best to pay attention, but they were passing a pond. He was desperate for a swim, but Flora had told him that they couldn't waste time playing around on this trip. "Woopah?" he asked, despite all the warnings against it.
"..." Amy stared at the lake, then at the setting sun. "The last train will be leaving soon, Marshall..." Suddenly, she smiled, tone much more brighter. "But when we get to Cerulean, there's plenty of water there! And you can swim all you want! I promise!"
"...Woop," Marshall nodded, happy with this compromise. He offered Amy his widest smile, returned in kind, and they continued forward, ever-nearing one of Johto's largest cities.

Jaden's words stung, and Riza turned away from him, trying not to let him see her hurt expression. "That's not it at all," she stammered quietly. "I left home because I didn't want Mom and Dad fighting over which of them were going to get me my starter Pokemon. I'm so sick of them always trying to outdo each other with everything and I just wanted to be able to do something on my own for once. Besides, it worked out really well. I love my Sneasel, I wouldn't trade her for any other Pokemon in the whole world."
Jaden smiled. He couldn't argue with that answer. Had he not gotten his own Dratini from Clair a few years ago, he would have hated to see the war that started between his parents. "Well, nevermind all that now," he said, taking a deep breath to calm himself. "I'm not here to reprimand you for Mom or Dad, or to tattle on you, or anything like that. I've actually brought you something, if you'll accept it." He was grinning now, as he'd always known that Riza had a secret love of dragon Pokemon. It was something most, if not all trainers from Blackthorn seemed to have in them.
Riza wiped her eyes with the back of her hand and looked up at her brother. She had no idea what he was talking about, and she was even more confused as to why he'd dropped the angry act so quickly. As far as she knew, he'd been really upset with her. "You have something for me?" he asked, her voice still a little shaky. She wanted to say a few other things but she decided that the smile on his face meant that everything was all right. The one thing she and Jaden had always had growing up was each other.
Jaden smiled again. "Well, do you remember when I got my first Pokemon?" Riza nodded. He'd got his Dratini from Clair, and spent time training with her as a result. "Well, it turns out that Clair knew you were going to be leaving on your journey sometime soon, so she started to get a Pokemon ready for you. If you'd waited at home a few more days, you would have had your very own Dratini. Just like me," he said with a chuckle. He held the red and white sphere Clair had given him in the palm of his hand. "Go on, take it!" * * * * * Geodude continued throwing rocks at the swinging Beautifly, a little annoyed that none of her throws were making any contact. Both the rock-type and Roxanne looked up as the butterfly's swinging got further and further. 'I see,' the gym leader thought, smiling to herself. The butterfly landed, and Roxanne was already prepared for her next command. "Geodude, another Rock Tomb," she demanded sharply. With the butterfly grounded from its damaged wing, it was highly unlikely that it would be able to escape this time, even with another String Shot.
Geodude was all too happy to comply with this order, and she eagerly closed the distance between her and the Beautifly and smashed her fists into the ground again, causing another set of stone spikes to burst out of the earth all around the two Pokemon. This attack was in fairly close proximity to Geodude, but that was a sacrifice both she and Roxanne were willing to make. Aside from that, the rock-type attack wouldn't do much damage to the rock-type Geodude. "Very nice, Geodude," Roxanne called out.

"Aerosmith," Jett called, still wearing a tight grin. "We're in a corner here! Just make sure you take this thing with you! Absorb!"
Aerosmith would not hesitate to do such. In such close proximity, the Beautifly began to do his best to absorb all the life out of this stupid Geodude. He would not be made a fool of! "Beautifly!" My name is Aerosmith, and you won't humiliate me!
When the Geodude's attack ended, despite if any of the attacks had hit, Aerosmith let out one final "Fly..." and fell, officially fainted.
"You did great," Jett said, recalling the Butterfly Pokemon. "Thank you, Aerosmith." He looked back to the battlefield, checking the status of the Geodude before he would sent River out.

Crenu looked away from his training for a moment, noticing Riza walk by. But from the looks of it, she was trying pretty hard to avoid him and his pokemon. Was she still mad at him? Or was it because of the match she just had? He was sure Fatina had won, after all she was apparently a renown coordinator and gym leader. And of course he didn't expect her to hold back, because that wouldn't help anyone out. Whatever the reason for it, Riza didn't look like she wanted to be bothered right now so he continued training. "No no no, that won't do. It's still to wild Froslass." Crenu said as he watched Froslass try her Icy Wind again. It wasn't bad, but it just wasn't the concentrated smooth jet of air he was looking for. This wasn't a dire problem, especially since Crenu didn't plan on using it during the appeals round, and since Fearow was going to handle the battling portion Froslass didn't need to have it mastered this moment. Still, you never can be sure of anything and if something went wrong in the appeals round they might need a trump card to put them back in the game. "....That's fine. That will do for now. You're control is getting there Froslass. When your attack is wide and scattered it's power and effectiveness decreases. When it's smooth and concentrated it hits harder and is more efficient, which means less work for you in the end. Just keep it in mind. You can get this, but not before the contest tomorrow." Shiro's words weren't as harsh as they could have been, but Froslass still felt the underlying message. She wasn't good enough. She felt pretty down now, she wasn't sure she could actually pull the contest off. Her head hung low as she started to question herself, the red beam pulling her back into her pokeball.
With his ice types back in their pokeballs Crenu turned his attention to Fearow, who was still going at his spiral attack. He was doing well, Fearow were masters of the aerial arts and his was no exception. More and more Fearow was resembling the drill Shiro had envisioned, it was coming along nicely. "Ok Fearow, that's enough for you as well. We'll pick this up later." Shiro called Fearow back to his pokeball as well, and started for Cerulean. He would have liked to train some more, but he was more worried about Riza right now. She had made it appoint to avoid them before, and he intended on giving her her space if she wanted it, but first Crenu wanted to make sure everything was fine. Her match with her brother was no better than his with Kenneth, a tough lesson for the both of them. But another session with Fatina that probably ended in a hard lesson learned so soon after was sure to have her feeling down. Not to mention, not spectating her match seemed to piss her off even more and Crenu felt he should try to get on good terms with her again. Crenu sighed, things were more complicated than he would have liked. Taking the bike from his bag and unfolding it, Crenu started peddling towards Cerulean. Riza was sure to head to the center, so that was his goal.

"Oh. My. God. Boy, look at yourself. You. Are. Hot. s**t. The ladies won't be able to keep their vines off you," Jun said, stepping back from his creation, arms on his hips. The expression on his face seemed reminiscent of a Prada-infused Dr. Frankenstein.
Tangela indeed did look different. Its body, naturally, was still hidden by vines (the poor Pokemon was too self-conscious about its real body, having hidden it from the sun too long) but a beautiful vineball it was! Tangela's blue "hair" waved around its body like the ocean, fluctuating just so like the waves; at the forefront of its face, bangs cascaded from a middle part. He was Fabio. In a blue ball form.
The little Pokemon gaped at itself in the mirror for a good few minutes, silent except for the rustling that his vines made when he shook them about. Then, the little bush danced for joy, wrapping Jun up in a great huge hug.
"Woah woah woah cool it, man. You're wrinkling my my Hermes dress shirt," Jun coughed, appreciative of the sentiment but no further than that. "Well... if you were a client, this would be the time I'd ask for some payment, but I guess a photograph of my masterpiece for my lookbook will do," he said, pulling out a polaroid camera from his brief case and snapping a shot. "Now, shall I show you out?" Jun asked, his voice grand and benevolent as he walked to the door of his hotel room.
The Tangela didn't move.
"Now, what?" Jun's sharp eyes accosted the Pokemon, reading its movements for some way of finding its thoughts. "You want to stay? With me?" Jun asked, a little astonished. When the ball nodded, he put a hand to his delicate chin and 'hmmmmmmed.'
"I don't keep just /any/ Pokemon with me. I'm a traveling beautician, you see, crossing the world to see and learn of beauty... I'm no trainer, no breeder, and the path I lead isn't all roses and satin, it's full of finger pricking and late nights and bloated, botox women. You gotta be of some use, and you gotta be able to handle the heat of the dressing room lights. What do you have to offer?"
The Tangela looked around, a little distressed under Jun's questioning. Suddenly, it reached out with one of its vines for a pair of scissors, and another one grabbed some product.
"Ha! You think you can be a hairdresser?" Jun asked, more thoughtful than ridiculing. Well, it had been stuck in its own hair for so long. And it had such an extensive knowledge of products. "Yeah, I guess that could work with some work. It won't be easy, though! And I'm cutting you out if you don't make the cut!"
The Tangela nodded eagerly. Oh, it'd learn alright. What Jun did to its own head was magic. And he wanted to learn how to do that to others, too.
Meanwhile... "Demi, you're in charge of teaching this one some of the basics. The mannequins are in the closet," he instructed his second-in-command, and equally multi-talented, Jynx. "I'm stepping about for a little to meet a client... Yes, I know, work so soon, but I /need/ to support our -- okay, okay, my -- expensive lifestyle! Those Louis aren't gonna pay for themselves!" And so, taking his good friend and diva Roselia along, he exited the hotel room in the dusk.
It seemed impossible to delay this mission of theirs any bit, so after having eaten their fill, M.A. and co. set off for the lighthouse a little bit outside of the main city.
It was an eerie establishment, especially with daylight being so scarce in the face of upcoming night, and with some hesitation the tall brunette knocked on the decaying wooden door, almost surprising herself with how loud the thuds were. Ulani the Swablu perched on her head like a Russian fur hat; per usual, Mary-Anne hardly noticed how odd she must look, since the bird was always there anyways.
Three minutes passed, and M.A. debated leaving when suddenly the door swung open backwards, revealing a sea-weathered man with a severe nose and a formidable jawline. He glared at his company from his one good eye. "Who are you? What do you want?"
Mary-Anne began to stutter, unused to any sort of hostility. "U-u-ummm Nurse Joy sent me over here --"
"Get on w/ it, girlie."
"Last year," she blurted. "You were in an accident at sea, right?"
The man seemed wary, but did not interrupt.
"I'm looking for the man who survived with you."
He seemed to worry the thought. "I don't know where he's gone."
"But --"
"I. Don't. Know. Where. He's. Gone," the man growled. "Now, go home, little girl. Leave me in peace," he said, making to shut the door. Diego, however, intervened, staring at the man with ferocious eyes that astonished the rough man.
"Please," Mary-Anne said. "Even if it's just a vague idea. He's a very important man to this Smeargle."
The man sighed. "Fine. Come in. The weather's turning south, too, I'd feel bad to send you back when a shower's gonna start in a few minutes. Spend the night here with my Pelican, I'll fill you in with the story I got."
Of course, Mary-Anne's brother Saebum had told her to be more careful around strangers -- after growing up in the safety of Fallorbor's tight-knit community, M.A. was somewhat naive -- but she had to figure out where Diego's master was. And plus, Daemyn was there next to her (a large reason that her overprotective family consented to the girl's adventures), and things were always alright if she had him by her side.
Plus, he had been right about the weather. Abruptly, the skies began to fall. Ulani shrieked before flying inside -- the moisture would ruin her perfectly fluffy wings!

Fatigue had begun to take over Amy. After battling those Yanma and managing all the way here, she was ready for a serious nap on that train. "I'm gonna recall you for now, because I don't want you getting lost in the big city," she informed Marshall, who merely nodded. After returning the Pokemon to his Pokeball, Amy walked into the newest building, passing yet another guard. And then she entered Goldenrod City.
"Wow..." It was big. It was very, very big. The Maple girl asked for directions almost immediately, and headed in the right path after a kindly old woman told her where the train station was.
After another ten minutes of walking past people and Pokemon alike, Amy arrived at the station, where she entered.
Seeing the ticket station woke her right up. The moment I step through there, I'll be on my way to Kanto, the girl thought fretfully. No going back from here... I won't see Scarlet or Cyan for a long time...
She remained rooted in the middle of the busy station, ignoring the people shoving past her. There was the consoling thought that she could make friends at Cerulean's contest, but there was also the very likely possibility that she'd make enemies there, too. Finally, she managed trembling steps forward, handing over her train ticket to the guard.
"T-to Saffron," she said, and she was allowed through. Amethyst Maple cast one last glance toward the quickly darkening city, toward Johto.
"Goodbye," Amy whispered, and she continued down the dark stairs leading to the trains.

"Drink up little guys!" gardenia cheered, pouring water over some newly sprouted flowers. Water trickled out of the mouth of a Squirtle watering can and onto the colorful flora. Suddenly a loud shout interrupted her watering, though a Gym Leader's gotta honor her duty! The girl placed the can onto a shelf next to other watering cans shaped like Pokemon. There was a Mudkip and a Slowpoke among many others. You could call her a collector of sorts. The Gym Leader moved to her battle field, whistling and walking with her hands behind her back.
Gardenia's official battle field wasn't really as official as one might have thought. There was a yellow platform on which she stood and some white lines to mark the boundaries, though many trees have grown in between the lines. Gardenia had never much cared for it anyways, she preferred the organic nature of just the grass beneath her boots, the trees and bushes, and other foliage to run near rampant in her gym. If you looked up you could see that this section of her gym lacked a roof as well, and the sun was shining brightly down onto the field below.
Gardenia's boots landed firmly on her platform and she swiveled around to see the orange hair challenger. Hey! They had the same hair color, neat! "Hello Katherine! I'm going to call you Katie!" Gardenia exclaimed, pointing her finger towards the girl. "And I'm Gardenia of the Eterna Gym!" she paused to draw her arm back towards her, now pointing her thumb at herself. "I specialized in Grass types. Yup! They're the best! Anyways, let's get started! C'mon out Cherim!"
A big purple flower appeared onto the battlefield. It sort of looked like an eggplant. "Well," the Gym Leader began, "Let's get this show on the road Katie!"

"Don't worry, your secret's safe with me," Mitsu laughed. Though she really didn't think his soft side was a secret, it was more like a rarity. As her laughter died down she sighed and smiled a half sarcastic smile. "I suppose we're all a little crazy and messed up."
Mitsu then turned to Portabello, who had apparently been following the conversation. "Thanks Portabello. I'll. . .I'll consider it." I'll tell them enough to explain how I healed Mike. I'll conveniently leave out the rest, the horrible, horrible rest.
"Hey Portabello," Mitsu asked, "Can you take us there?" She pointed in the general direction where all the noise were coming from. "I don't exactly want to get lost in a volcano."

Kasiya's thoughts had drifted back to what Portabello had said about Mike dropping everything if she needed him for a rescue operation, and she smiled wistfully. She hadn't needed the Breloom's confirmation of that, as she already knew that Mike would selflessly come to her aid if she needed him, no matter what. Part of the reason she'd kept Shocker's abduction from him was because she knew he'd flip out about it, and at that point, she hadn't thought it would help his state of mind, either.
"Aw, you must be Camarae," she said, smiling at the Omanyte. "Aren't you the shy one." She looked down at the arena again as this time it was filled by intense flames, and she looked back at the fossil Pokemon, her skin going slightly pallid as she listened to the exchange between Sasha and Blaine. She gulped and tried to pretend like she hadn't heard it and focused her attention back on the shy Omanyte. I missed something, she thought, feeling her heart bottom out once more. But maybe I'm just better off not knowing... "It's all right," she whispered to Camarae, not entirely sure she believed even herself anymore. "It's all gonna be okay..."
=-=-=-=-= After the second time the door had been slammed in his face, Jake had started to walk away, praying desperately that he hadn't been that much of a snotty little brat when he was younger. He'd surmised that he was easily in his teens, probably seventeen or eighteen, but he wasn't one-hundred percent sure. It also bothered him that he had no idea when his birthday was, and that wasn't something he felt comfortable making up. He and Turtwig had nearly made it down the cobblestone walkway when the front door banged open again. Jake groaned and counted down in his mind. Three, two, one, here we go...
"Hey, were are you going, big guy Jake?" Beth's voice called from behind him. "I said it was time for a battle!"
"Then perhaps you shouldn't have slammed the door in my face," Jake answered acidly. He didn't know why, but his tone of voice made him feel uneasy. It seemed very strange, and almost alien, and he quickly remedied it. "You should be nicer to people," he told the girl after a moment of thought. "And yes, a battle sounds good. At his side, Turtwig jumped up and down. He was so ready for this!
The Tiny Leaf Pokemon practically headbutted Jake's leg until he'd taken up a position across from Beth, who was still staring at him with her wide, brown saucer eyes. Jake's stomach had twisted up into a painful knot but he couldn't tell if it was his nerves messing him up because of the battle, or if it was because he was so hungry he could eat an entire apple tree, especially now that he knew he wasn't allergic to apples. Beth, on the other hand, couldn't be happier about her first battle and she skipped over to her side of their designated field, holding her Pokeball at the ready. "Are you ready, Big Guy Jake?"
"Not really, but let's do this anyway..." Jake sighed, and hoped Rowan wouldn't get angry at him for getting into a battle with another trainer.

Demi had the new Tangela sit down as she pulled out some hair catalogues. 'First, we'll look at human hair, since it's easier and it's only in one area, the head,' she told the newcomer. 'Pokemon hair is a little more complex in the different varieties... That we'll talk about later. But first, welcome to Jun's team. I am Demi, and I will be relinquishing my position as a hairstylist to you if you do well enough.'
'Then, what will you do?' the quiet Tangela asked.
The Jynx laughed. 'Don't worry one bit. I pick things up pretty quickly, and Jun did need a makeup artist. Hair was getting tiring for me, anywho.'
'What does Jun do?'
'Everything. He's an all-around stylist. Except nails, we still need to find someone willing to do nails...'
'What about that flower creature? What does she do?'
'She's (surprisingly) useful with a couple of things... Crunching numbers, for one, and being rational, since heaven forbid Jun be. And she has her own line of flowery, frilly dresses -- her wedding dress designs, in particular, are definitely catching attention. And she'll help Jun out on other things, too.'
The client was waiting for Jun at his vacation home across town. Floaroma wasn't particularly very big or anything, but he still hustled in the gnawing breeze and mist of the coming night. The streetlights above him suddenly were affronted by a moist fog, much to the discomfort of Jun's carefully blow-dried hair.
Two punks materialized from the unusually thick fog with little notice, though Jun didn't appear particularly surprised or frightened. "Hey, pretty boy," one sneered. "You look like you'd carry some nice, designer wallet. Bet it's a little heavy, though. We'd love to lighten the load for you."
Actually, Jun thought, my Gucci wallet doesn't have much money in it after buying all that product for that Tangela. But ah well. "It's okay. I'll shoulder the burden," he said crisply, still smiling thinly.
"We insist," the other one hissed, reaching for a Pokeball. A Rhyhorn materialized by his side, and the other man released some other typically villainous, thoughtless Pokemon that Jun hardly registered. He sighed. "Well, Posh, mind lending me a hand?"
The Roselia frowned. She had been preening her rosebuds. Attacking always left some residue... But it was for Jun, she supposed she'd lend him a hand.
A gigantic blossom of powder shot into the sky, and before his two opponents could register what was going on, they and their Pokemon could suddenly feel the lethargy coming on. However, Jun's typical escape plan (he found himself in sticky situations quite often, actually) wasn't going to cut it with this kind of weather. He realized this when he tried to creep by and the guy, who was blinking dazedly, suddenly grabbed him by his ironed collar. "Where do ya think you're going?" he muttered angrily, affected by the powder that hung heavily in the fog but not quite enough. His partner, who was smaller than he was, was fast asleep.
Jun sighed, again. "Now, now, you don't wanna do this."
"Why not? I'll have my Rhyhorn crush that little b***h weed of yours."
Jun's eyes sharpened. What happened next was so fast...
Jun left a few minutes later, hand in hand with his Roselia, swinging his arms and humming. Behind him, the man was knocked out cold, his Rhyhorn roaring in bewilderment but fearing to charge at that man whose eyes were those of the most ferocious beast, most unbecoming for somewhere wearing some prim and proper clothing. Jun cleared his throat. "Now, Posh, I don't condone fighting, it's so uncivilized. You're a smart girl, you can easily slip out of the way, like you did there; 9/10 hostiles will be dumb brutes. But I must admit, a little exercise is a little liberating here and there~"

"What?" Riza stared at the sphere in Jaden's hand, processing what he'd just said. If she'd followed the conversation correctly, then Clair had given her a Pokemon. No, not just any Pokemon, but a Dratini. "No way," she said, shaking her head. "You told them that I had Pokemon now, right?" she asked, and Jaden nodded. "Why would Clair still want to give me a Pokemon?"
Jaden said nothing right away and pressed the ball into his sister's palm. "It's a Clair thing," he said, shrugging. "Our hometown is pretty famous for dragon Pokemon, and it wouldn't be right for a trainer from Blackthorn to not have a dragon of her very own. Besides, this little guy is my Dragonair's little brother. Fitting, isn't it?" He chuckled and stood up, kissing his sister on the forehead before he turned to leave the Pokecenter. "You'd better raise him right," he called as he headed for the sliding doors. "Otherwise you'll have to answer to Clair, after she stuck up for you and everything!" Within seconds he'd sent out his Pidgeot and had taken to the skies again.
Riza watched her brother leave, slightly dumbfounded and very much stunned by what had just happened. She blinked a few times and looked down at the poke ball in her hand. She couldn't believe it, but the only way to prove it wasn't some cruel joke was to check it out for herself. She took a deep breath and clicked the ball open, biting her lower lip in anticipation. * * * * * Roxanne bowed her head slightly as Aerosmith the Beautifly was returned to his poke ball. She'd never met a Beautifly with such an attitude before, and it made her wonder how tough an opponent he'd be at a higher level when he had more attacks available to him. Geodude was bouncing up on the ground, very happy with her victory, though it had come at the painful cost of having more of her energy sapped. She was starting to feel fatigued, but she refused to show it as she waved at Jett, beckoning him to send out his next Pokemon.
"That was a good round," Roxanne said. "Your Beautifly is full of spunk, I like that. Are you ready to continue?" she asked, still smiling as she was enjoying the battle thus far.

"Thanks," Jett smiled towards the 'spunk' comment. He was somewhat disappointed in the Geodude still being the main opponent, but he was far from worried. River and the boy had even closer bond. "River! It's your turn." He tossed the Pokeball into the air, watching the shy Ralts emerge.
River appraised the Geodude, let out an appropriate squeak, and quickly calmed down. She was sure that her friend had taken a lot out of this one, and then it would just be her and one last Pokemon...
"You can have the first move this time," Jett said, winking towards River. "I hope we don't disappoint!"

As Crenu rode up to Cerulean, he had some trouble settling his thoughts as usual. The way things were shaping up, it looked like his first contest battle was going to be complicated. He fully intended to win, he hadn't had a real victory in what seemed like ages and he wasn't going to let the beginning of his contest carrier be marred by defeat. On the other hand, Riza was probably feeling the same way. No one wanted to lose, and he knew she wanted to win this just as badly as he did. Not only that, but the way things seemed, she needed this as badly as he did too. If he was lucky he wouldn't have to deal with the confrontation. Either he would be eliminated before the finals, or she would be eliminated and they wouldn't have to meet. But if they both made it to the finals or the brackets matched them up before then, he was going to have to battle her. And there lay the issue...Crenu wouldn't pull any punches for anyone. Not for Ken which was obvious, not for M.A., not for Ky, not for some little kid or an old man. But for Riza...damn. The choice was obvious, go for the kill every time without thinking twice. But with Riza in the mix for some reason, against all logic and against better judgment, it just didn't seem that easy. Crenu wanted to say that he would try to take her down if it came down to it, but a part of him just wouldn't let him say make that decision. He wouldn't throw away a win for the sake of a girl would he? But Riza wasn't just a girl...she was different. Special. Important. "...damn it." "Son. You're not seriously thinking about throwing the match for her are you?" Crenu's father chimed in as he floated overhead. "Tisk tisk my boy. To think you'd be so weak." "I don't know James, I think it's kinda sweet. The story of a man throwing it all away for his woman and spiraling into pathetic Loserville? And then she's warmed by his sacrifice for her sake, letting her use him as a stepping stone to further her career. And then she falls further in love with the man for his noble act. Isn't it sweet?" Ayane giggled as she appeared in front of him. "Yeah that's true. Oh wait, no that's not what happens. This isn't some lame romance novel or tv show. Some kids comic that's suppose to teach you about self sacrifice and being a bigger person. No no, this story ends with my son laying down for her, the Riza girl thanking him, then running off with a stronger less pathetic trainer. Like that red haired guy from before." "Huh? Oh that Keegan guy! Boy he was sure cute! Ah, and strong too! Did you see how he handled himself? And then he punched that tree so fearlessly too, I bet his bones are like steel. He swooped in and took her from you, and you just ran away. A girl like Riza likes a guy with some spine. See that's your problem, no spine at all. So full of emotion. That Keegan guy was so badass, he took Riza from you, took her to some ball then dumped her for another girl. The only reason Riza is with you now is because she had to settle for second, no third, no way way further than that. Hmm, I'll get back to you once I've properly assessed what place you're actually in. " Crenu tried to ignore the voices around him. He kept telling himself his father and Ayane weren't there with him as he biked to Cerulean, but drowning out the hallucinations was getting harder and harder. "...what do you mean? I'm not emotional at all, I've ridden myself of such useless things and always think logically. Emotions are weakness, you don't know what you're talking about." "Son, if that were true then you wouldn't be conflicted about the contest. You wouldn't even think about it, you'd walk in there, look that girl in the face, and destroy her without even batting an eye." "....but..." Shiro could say nothing. Not only was he arguing with figments of his imagination, but he was losing too. Man that was bad. Shiro's grip on his handle bars had tightened so much that his knuckles were colorless and his palms were hurting, but he peddled on. The ghosts in his mind continued to chat going on and on about him, but he ignored them. He could hear them clearly, scrambling his mind, but he continued on pretending like he couldn't. Their words weren't there, they weren't there, it was all in his head. In. His. Head. And that was the problem, it was his mind that wasn't right. Trying to convince himself that he wasn't going insane Crenu nearly ran a man over as he had biked through a crowd of people. He hadn't even noticed that he entered the city, but that was ok. The Pokemon Center wasn't far, he could see the red roofed building in front of him. As he neared the doors he hopped off of his bike, seeing a shadow cast from overhead that was probably from some big bird pokemon passing by. Folding up his bike and putting it back in his bag, Crenu walked up the steps of the center and up to the front door. As the doors slid open and Crenu took a step inside, he didn't expect to see the very girl he was looking for standing right there. Not only that, but she was holding a pokeball, looking at it strangely as if expecting something incredible, as she pushed the button to release what was inside.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Carlos looked at Maz and chuckled, looking at the boy's pokemon. "My, such confidence inspiring words Mr. Maz. But I too have gone through la MontaƱa Lunar once or twice in my travels, I'm sure the little lady and myself would have been fine. But another traveler is always appreciated." Carlos looked at Maz's pokemon, very interesting. "Ha ha ha, even one as traveled as I does not lay eyes on many Shuckle. Quite a rare pokemon you have Mr. Maz. With pokemon like this I'm sure you can cross the mountain with ease." Carlos continued to smile as he ate his breakfast, his pokemon to busy chowing down to pay attention to much else.

"Yes, in Sinnoh Yanma have the ability to evolve into something called Yanmega, and yes they are pretty cool. They are very big to so prepair for some problems he might have adjusting to his new body. They are very fast and strong, since it learns Detect you can have it avoid attacks that would be very damaging to it. If you strike them when they least expect it with blinding fast attacks then you can do a lot of damage."
"So he will be like a ninja?" Robin asked her nose wrinkling a little, she liked pirates better. Still if it was Raz she was sure he would end up being like a sort of ninja/pirate/secret agent kinda thing.
"I guess kinda like a ninja, you just need to be careful, Yanmega can take hits a bit better then the your Jumpluff but they still aren't the toughest of pokemon. With them you need to strike fast and then get away, since you taught him psychic though it should help him manipulate his attacks. You should work with him on that, if he can make it seem like attacks are coming from all angles it will bring the advantage to yourself." Robin nodded as she listened to him. "Good, now let's talk about your Monferno."
"I thought you said yesterday that you didn't like the Chimchar line."
"I don't, there trainers tend to be the most arrogant self serving pricks. Still that doesn't mean that I can't train you and your pokemon to be the strongest there is." Tony seemed to be really fired up about that. Robin didn't quite get it but if it meant she would get stronger then she was fine with that. "Like I said the other day the Chimchar line is very versatile, they can do strong special attacks and physical attacks while still moving at a rapid speed. However like many of your pokemon they can't take a hit very well. You will have to work on his dodging all the time constantly training him on that. If you get good enough you can start working on the counter dodges that I was trying to teach him the other day. It would actually be very beneficial to train your Yanma and Monferno at the same time."
Black*Star listened to the whole conversation between Robin and Tony with interest while he was getting his massage. Did Robin get a new pokemon? That would mean he would have to fight even harder to get her attention? Not that he would have to try really hard at all since he was so awesome.

For a fleeting moment Riza worried that the poke ball Jaden had given her was in fact empty, but this wasn't the case as white light spilled from the sphere as it opened. It quickly took shape, and Riza could only let out a somewhat strangled sounding squeak at the large, serpentine shape before her. It indeed was a Dratini, though before Riza could get a good look at him he let out a terrified squeal before turning tail and diving under a chair. All this unfamiliar scenery, and an unfamiliar girl was too much for him. However, he was a bit too big for this hiding place and the chair toppled over noisily and he had to settle for hiding behind the couch instead.
"Okay," Riza murmured, her excitement over her newest Pokemon dissipating as it was, in fact, terrified of her. She got down on her hands and knees and crawled around to the side of the couch, trying to coax the creature out of hiding. "It's okay, I'm not gonna hurt you," she said, holding her hand out towards the frightened dragon. "My name's Riza, and I think you and I will become great friends."
It was about then that she sensed a presence from behind her and she looked over her shoulder to see Crenu standing there. He must have seen her pass by him, and she grinned at him. "Shiro, did you see? I got a new Pokemon!" she said excitedly, seemingly have forgotten her previous annoyances with him. "He's a little shy right now but I'm sure he'll come around!" She turned back to the scared Pokemon. "I think I'm going to name you Faustus," she said, once again holding her hand out to the Dratini. The young dragon inched forward and bumped her hand with his nose. She seemed nice enough, but it was really scary out here! * * * * * Katie smirked at Gardenia's introduction. Whenever she'd introduced herself by her full first name, most people were quick to assume she shortened it to Kathy. "Good call, that's what everyone calls me," she shouted back, holding up her first poke ball. She liked the feel of this gym, it felt warm and comfortable, unlike the stone cold arena back in Oreburgh. "Grass-types are great, so I'll start with one, too! You're up first, Seraphim!"
She threw the red and white sphere and out came the Roselia, who was quite happy to bask in the warm sunshine beaming down on them through the open roof. She also very much enjoyed the look of this gym, and she waved a dainty little rose in the direction of Gardenia's Cherrim. "Let's start off right, Seraph!" Katie called. "Growth!" The Roselia nodded and gave a little twirl, her body shimmering as she forced her special attack to grow. * * * * * Roxanne's eyes widened at the sight of the tiny Ralts. Had she not been a dedicated rock-type Pokemon trainer, she would love to capture and train a Ralts. She didn't see as many of these Pokemon as she did some of the other Pokemon native to this region, and she knew they could be tricky opponents. She was certain that Jett's Ralts would be no exception to the rule. "Thank you," she said, bowing her head slightly, looking to her Geodude. She knew it probably wouldn't take much to bring her down, but that wasn't means for giving up just yet. "Geodude, let's start out with a good old-fashioned Tackle," she called.
Geodude, still feeling quite speedy from her previous Rock Polishes gave a cheerful "Geo!" before she zipped forward, very much a stony blur as she rushed at the Ralts with intent to Tackle.
