Jake stood in front of the relaxing Slytherin, his left hand rested on the sword at his waist and he looked at him casually. "To...transport Anna-Marie from place to place. For example, if she needs to see the Carrows. If I'm already there, watching her every move and making sure she's not collaborating with that sorry excuse for an "Army" much less a resistance, all you need to do is send a Patronus or an owl to send word that she's needed."
It wasn't hard for him to insult the DA like that. As an American, casual insulting, even playful curses were not beyond him. He used to do it all the time...still does too.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
About a minute after Jake had walked the halls in search of Crucius, Devin was on the other side of the school looking for Jake. The two had mimcked each others movements through the halls. The only difference was, with Jake there was a lot of confusion, talks, and whispers.
... Devin's crowd was more than convinced of his allegiance. Some have even heard of the damages he inflicted not too long ago, and the Slytherin's journey to the Common Room was nothing less than a fight to survive.
But he made it, in the end. And was about to walk in when he froze, hearing the conversation. He waited for a while, eavesdropping on the two.
Crucius raised an eyebrow. As much as he'd love not having the responsibility of keeping an eye on the seer, it wasn't his place to hand off the duty to Jake. "You'd have to talk to the Carrows or Snape about that one....However, I'm pretty sure she isn't stupid enough to get involved with the D.A. She values her family too much to put them in any real danger. I've come to know that with the way she acts. Sure, she has a fighting spirit, but it is reigned in for her family's sake..." He stated casually. Crucius knew that if they didn't have Anna-Marie's family held captive, she'd be hell to deal with. .
He nodded in understanding, bowing his head in thought. Though his thoughts were the exact opposite as his exterior air of calmness and understanding. Inwardly he was cursing his luck.
Finally Jake looked up and gave a curt shrug. "Then I guess I'll have to take it up with them." He gave Crucius a small wave with his right hand, his left never leaving the hilt of his sword. Turning around he stopped facing towards the exit.
Devin was leaning against the door frame cleaning some dirt from underneath his finger nail. "You haven't proven yourself yet." He said, his attention seemingly more towards his finger nail than anything. When he looked to be done he looked up at Jake. "They'll tear you apart." Devin walked up to the two and stopped at the table, picking up the book and flipping through it before setting it aside, properly. "Draco and Raven can grant you an audience with Snape or one of the Carrows, and bestow an air of confidence for your sake. Luckily they have also requested your presence, at midnight."
"Did they say, where?" Jake asked, a newfound hope emerging within him.
"No. Maybe a test of sorts?"
Defi gave a shrug and headed for the door. "Who knows? I'll be there...wherever there may be. Peace out, yo." With those final words he held up the peace sign with his fingers over his shoulder as he walked out.
Raven and Draco made their way down to the dungeons for their double Potions class.
"Do you think that he'll show up. From what I understand, he's siding with Voldemort. He may end up being a threat to our hard work." Raven said scratching her arm lazily.
Draco shook his head. "Somehow with the promise of knowing that I'm already a Death Eater, and can get him any position he chooses as far as our student ranks go, and getting him in good with the other no gooders, I think he will."
"No, I just Umm, I've never seen a mooncalf in person, and it's a bit obscure. I wasn't calling you weird Anna."
Neal stumbled over his words, panicking on the inside. He hoped that he was mistaken, but something in his gut told him that Anna already knew everything she needed to know about him. and she'd tell the death eaters and they would do horrible, terrible things to him.
"If you ever need help... Or are more willing to accept it, I'll be around. The DA is stronger and runs a lot deeper then you know. If you let us, we could get your family back, save you, and beat the Death Eaters to a pulp."
Neal's ginger hair turned darker almost crimson dark red. He to the white haired girl and frowned. She needed help, but wouldn't take it. There was really nothing he could do to change that.
"On a side note, has anyone asked you to the hallow's eve dance yet?"
When he changed the subject the kid's hair changed. It lightened into a sandy soft blond. He looked down at Anna and prayed that she was still free.
Anna-Marie gave a small laugh at his first statement. She knew he wasn't calling her weird. "Neal, I know I'm weird...I have no issue admitting it." She explained, giving him a small smile. His nervousness was a bit endearing, cute. "You have no idea what it's like, to be so different from others..." She stated a bit softly, trailing off. Most of the kids at Hogwarts thought that she was a bit of a kook like Trelawney. At least Anna-Marie didn't try to make a show out of things, trying to scare others and what not.
At the next statement, she bit her lip. Anna-Marie knew that the D.A. was a student group, she doubted they could find the location of her family. Now, the Order, there was more hope with them. However, she didn't want to jeopardize their safety. If someone else went to do that without her knowledge, they could hardly hold her accountable, but they just might torture them to get Anna-Marie to find out. Either way it was too risky for her likes, and she didn't want to make a decision to see if it would work. "Neal, thanks again, but I'm a tough little seer, I can handle it for now."
Ah, his hair had changed to a dark red, a frown on his face. Hmm, only a moment later, after he asked her to the dance, his hair lightened to a shade of blonde while her cheeks turned a bright red. A shade of red which stood out greatly compared to the stark white of her hair. "Umm, Someone already brought up Halloween with me, but I think he might have other plans now....I might not even be here for Halloween depending on if I'm needed elsewhere....." She trailed off, not needing to explain where else she would be. By the curt tone it was easy to tell that the Death Eaters might need her for that night.
"However, If I do go to the dance, would you save a Dance for me?" she asked with a small hopeful smile. Neal was different than Jake. Jake was loud, obnoxious, and he didn't care if he insulted anyone. Neal was quiet, reserved, and it appeared he didn't like to hurt others for no reason. Anna-Marie had to be careful, for, if she wasn't, she might just find herself falling for two different guys.
Neal frowned, so Anna didn't want him to help after all. Aaanndd she didn't want him to go to the dance with her. The poor kid took it much harder then he should have. The frown that suddenly washed over him made it perfectly obvious plus the shift of his hair to a dark shade of dull brown, almost black. When she said that he didn't understand what being different was like he almost scoffed but if she was saying that then she really didn't know! She must. Still think that he was just a regular singleton. He lightened up a little and his hair lightened as well. Not much, but a little.
" I think I know a little bit about being different Anna. I mean, look at me. I've been singled out my entire life for something I can't even. Control, nor could I really gain anything from it."
The boy reach up. To tussle his short ever changing hair and smiled. He was passing, that's for sure. And Anna was being nice by saying that she would give him a dance if. She was around.
Anna-Marie instantly blushed when he pointed out his hair. Of course he knew what being different was like, after all, Neal was a metamorphmagus. "Sorry, I didn't notice because it suits you so well, it doesn't stand out...Either that, or I'm used to being odd that I don't notice it in others...." She stated with a blush and a smile. It was the same way with Luna Lovegood. She didn't see why others made such a fuss over the girl. Though, Neal did change hair colors frequently. "And, hey, at least you keep your hair normal colors for teens, I was born with this white hair...." she stated with a smirk. Absently she wondered if he would turn his hair white just to prove a point or something of the like.
Then, she got to thinking. He didn't say anything about the dance after she had answered him. Obviously it wasn't the exact answer he was hoping for, but she had been honest. "Hey, you didn't say that you'd save a dance for me..." She pointed out. It was alright if he didn't want to, but she hoped he did. "And, depending on that one dance, there might be more...." She added with a smile, hoping to cheer him up. Anna-Marie began to wonder why she hadn't hung out with Neal before. They were both outsiders in a way. It would have only made sense.
Neal shrugged and struggled to hold in a laugh when she said that at least he kept his hair normal colors.
"Oh man, do you know how much work it is to keep my hair in that normal color spectrum? It's all I think about when ever I have any kind of strong emotion. After the first few times I got beat up for having bubble gum hair I learned to keep it in check."
As he spoke his hair changed from the brown color to a bright lime green. He had dropped the thought, the concentration and was opening up to the girl of his dreams.
"You could always dye your hair, mine doesn't take dye well, it just makes the changes more intense. "
Neal shrugged and wanted to reach out and stroke the girl's beautiful snow white locks, but he didn't he put his hands in his pockets and looked down at the ground in front of them as they walked. She brought up the dance and he shrugged.
"I didn't want you to feel obligated, you said that you had someone else who wanted to take you? And if you had promised a dance to me when you were on a date with some one else... I don't want to intrude or anything. But I would dance with you any night Ann- Ah, that-Um, Sorry I mean. Sorry that sounded creepy, I'm not creepy. I promise."
God, that made him sound even more creepy. The boy's hair changed from the fun lime green to a hunting orange of panic. He bit his bottom lip to shut himself of and hoped Anna would just blow off his comment as nothing. He wasn't a creeper, just really bad at talking to pretty girls. Girls didn't talk to him, and he had never really learned to communicate well.
Anna-Marie noticed he seemed more relaxed when he was talking about his hair and his ability to change it and the control he needed over it. She giggled somewhat when he made it a bright lime green color. Yeah, that was one way to make sure you stood out. Then he suggested that she could dye her hair. She instantly shook her head at that suggestion. "It may make me stand out, but I don't want to cover it up or change it. It's part of me and who I am just as much as being a seer is. I'm not ashamed of it..." She stated, smiling. She knew he hadn't meant it that way. Anna-Marie had just wanted to explain why she'd never change it like that.
"Obligated? Please, Neal, it's not an obligation if you want to do it...." She stated simply. She wouldn't have asked him to save her a dance if she didn't want to dance with him. "And, people ask to cut in all the time at dances..." She continued. She gave a small laugh again. "Neal, chill out, it didn't sound creepy....It sounded sweet..." She admitted with a blush. Anna-Marie noted the bright orange of his hair, even brighter than the Weasley's hair. No doubt it was due to his emotions that it was such a vibrant hue.
She wasn't ashamed? Of course she wasn't. In a more normal situation, being a seer would have been an advantage, a cute useful talent. It wasn't like being a seer made you dangerous or unable to control yourself. She might have been different but she wasn't an outcast, a pariah.
"Standing out isn't a good idea right now. At least not if you can help it. I've been trying to blend in more but... I'm no good at it."
A thought occurred to Neal at that moment when she talked about the dance again. He wouldn't be able to go this year!!! It was a full moon damn it. The boy's hair changed darkening to a dark almost blue black. He sighed and glanced up at the girl.
"Now that I think about it, I will not actually be able to make it to the dance this year after all. Sorry."
He would make up some lie about having to visit home or something but in reality he would be sleeping. He would be missing yet another night of his youth due to something that he would never be able to control, and would always be hovering over him, threatening to take over his life.
"Maybe some other time?"
Anna-Marie smirked. "Tell me about it....If it weren't for my little talent, my family would be safe...Well, at least not in the hands of Death Eaters...." She noted, not wanting to think about that at the moment. She was a bit startled at the sudden deepening of his hair. It went from the bright orange to a deep bluish black hue. She wasn't exactly sure what that color meant. When he spoke, it seemed to be associated with sadness or disappointment.
Oh, he wouldn't be able to go to the dance. Anna-Marie frowned a bit at that news. She had actually started to look forward to it. However, there was a likely chance that she wouldn't be able to attend either. Hmm. "How about now? I mean, you aren't going to be able to go, and I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to go...It only makes sense..." She offered up as a remedy, a bit hopeful at his answer.
Daniel had lost Aideen somewhere on his walk away from Draco and Raven. As much as he liked her company he needed sometime alone. And now that he was alone, he wished he had company.
At that same moment, he walked up to the Portrait guarding the entrance to the Gryffindor house. He stared at the lady in the portrait and contemplated where to go besides inside.
"Dan-Dan!"
It was Jake, Daniel turned around and watched him jog over to the portrait with a small smile on his face. "Good...you're here. Listen, I have to tell you something." At that moment he turned to the fat lady and said, "Open up."
The fat lady in the portrait gave a small sneer and gave a pouty sort of expression, crossing her arms and looking away. "Your kind is not allowed here."
"Just open the damn door."
"What's the password?"
Jake said the password, and the portrait glared at him for a few seconds before opening for the pair. The Slytherin escorted Daniel into the rather empty Common Room. Once there, Jake hesitated. He had no idea how Daniel was going to react, and part of him didn't want to ruin the friendship the two had.
Then he saw how down Daniel was, and the Slytherin sighed to himself. Maybe now wasn't the best time. As soon as his Gryffindor friend sat down, Jake slapped his shoulder lightly. "Cheer up. I got something for you." At that moment he unsheathed his sword. Now...if it were anyone else, they would have freaked out that he had just pulled out his sword, and the surprise was their death. But Daniel was used to it and watched Jake with curiosity.
Jake tossed/flipped his sword in the air, and it shrunk down to size. Back into his wand, which no one, except himself, had seen since Jake's first year. 12.5" Yew, Dragon Heartstring. He caught it then pointed it at a window, that suddenly flung open then shouted, "Accio, Daniel's present!" At the end of his spell he whipped his wand upwards, a motion that Daniel missed. Silently he put his wand into his robes for the moment and stepped backwards. "If I catch it, you're not gettin it. And it's something that you'd really really like."
Daniel wasn't in the mood for games, but he became curious to what it is. And he knew at times Jake would just give up his shenanigans if Daniel sulked enough. "I don't feel like playing games, right now."
Jake shrugged as he spotted the small, wrapped box flying towards the window. "Alright...guess you don't want your iPod."
The young 6th year's interest peaked immediately, and he sat up. "My what-?"
"Your iPod. Packed full of your favorite songs, and this little hand-crank outlet to help you charge it when it dies. But hey you don't want it."
"Wait! Jake...I- I didn't mean it!"
At this point Jake started his own commentary, turning this small situation into a situation like that of an American Football game. "And there's the snap! Slytherin's QB, Malfoy has plenty of time in Shotgun. He's looking! He's looking!"
"JAKE!"
"Throws it deep!"
Daniel stood up, only to fall back down. "Jake! Not fair! My calf! I have cramp! JAKE!"
The gift that Jake had summoned suddenly came in through the window towards the floor, then bounced and flew straight up at an angle, just as Jake had motioned for it to do early on.
"Defi is wide open! Gryffindor's Defense isn't going to make it!" The 7th year Slytherin jumped straight up with both hands above his head as the gift seemed to fly straight towards it.
Then Daniel appeared out of nowhere. His jump was just as high as Jake's despite the muscle cramp in his right calf. But he only had one hand up, in front of Jake's. The present, flew it into his hand, and he grabbed it.
Somewhere, in both of their minds, the commentary went on despite Jake's silence. "INTERCEPTION! Gryffindor's safety took off from his position farther out in front of Defi and caught the ball! He's going for the touchdown! At the 50! Slytherin can't touch him!...The 30! The 20! The 10!...TOUCHDOOOOWN GRYFINDOOOOOOR!"
In reality, Daniel's momentum carried him into Jake, and the two crashed onto a night stand next to the couch, knocking over the flower pot that was sitting atop of it, and demolishing the table itself before the two finally slammed into the floor.
After all the destruction, there was a groan. And then another. Slowly but surely, Daniel got off of Jake and crawled over the arm rest of the couch before rolling onto the cushions itself, gift in hand.
Jake did much of the same thing, except he rolled into the love seat next to the couch.
"I- T-There's no music. We can't. and people would stare."
Neal might have been odd but he wasn't an attention whore. He didn't want to be noticed much. If people noticed him they might start to wounder about some of his small quarks. The boy's hair jumped back into a normal dark brown, back in the acceptable color spectrum. He blushed slightly and reached forward to open the door into the school for Anna to go first. He should really get the hell away from her.
Anna would never be his, he shouldn't have talked to her. Neal rubbed the back of his neck and leaned into the door, avoiding eye contact with the seer. She had a connection with him, it was only a matter of time now.
"But umm, maybe I could escort you to the yule ball? I don't think either one of us will be busy then... I won't be leaving over the holiday so... we might have some time to waste then?"
The kid gave a fake smile but still avoided her gaze. He was obviously trying to get away. This was to much to soon, he was floundering and needed air. It didn't help that he was terrifying that he would get the s**t beaten out of him for talking to a pet of the death eaters. They already hated him, the a** hats didn't need much of a reason to mess with the poor kid.
Anna-Marie noted that his first statement was true. No music, and people staring could pose a problem. Plus, she figured that he wasn't the kind of person to call unnecessary attention to himself. After that, he quickly changed his hair back to normal. Well, as normal as he could get it. She found it cute when he blushed and opened the door for her. "Thanks..." She said quickly before entering the school.
"Yule Ball? I thought the school only had that during the Triwizard Tournament...." She stated, slightly confused. That was saying something. "Well, either way, I'm not certain about Christmas holidays either. The Death Eaters might have a use for me then..." She trailed off, a bit disappointed. It appeared as if Neal wanted to leave. Great. That's it Anna-Marie...make the guy nervous around you. She blushed before thinking of something to say. "I'm sure we'll figure something out....See you later, Neal..." She said with a small smile before making her way up to the Ravenclaw dorms.
