He quickly looked up remembering that he was in the library and the librarian didn't like loud noises. Once he seen he was in the clear he sighed lightly before picking the book up and attempting to read it again.

Although they can't see many people incorperate eyes so as to make them look human in appearence," whispered Gennosuke as he read along. He looked at the picture showing the hinged jaw with different devices for the puppet. "Interesting," said Gennosuke finally getting it.

However this part was scribbled and marked up with different symbols and even more pictures. "I swear the person who wrote this was a horrible note taker," he thought to himself. He could barely make out some of the characters. The picture showed the head hovering over the body but that was all he wasn't sure of what it meant. He sighed again wishing this just came to him.

Gennosuke took a second look at the page. He squinted and although it was barely legible he was able to read the handwriting. "The head can move around a full 360 degrees and move up and down. It, like most of the pieces, is detachable from the body. This makes it good for blunt force damage or for keeping it from getting damaged with the rest of the body. The hair is usually glued on and come in an assortment of colors and styles. The hair is one of the parts that are rarely used," he read to himself. He turned the page hoping the next sections wouldn't be as bad.

The next page was full of more detailed drawings of what looked like the torso of the puppet. It was hollow from what Gennosuke could see. "The torso of the puppet is one of the main parts in term of what the puppet can do. The body types vary from puppet to puppet and determines the type: offensive, defensive, or both. This also determines the weight: light, medium, or heavy and size: small, medium, and large," read Gennosuke putting his finger to his mouth and nibbling on his nail.

Y a m a n a k a ღ I c h i z o k uThe best method is obviously the one that expends the least energy. Theme: Second Time Around
He was (fairly) certain it was no process of his imagination.
Yet when he rubbed his eyes, there was no change. He stared. He had been to the village library only once before in his life, when he was very young, as his mother wanted to show him the greco-romanesque architecture. After all, Inori had no need to come in the years to follow. His father's expansive library had been more than ample to suit his studies. He could've sworn the esteemed village library was never in the past, well, this style. Naturally, there was nothing with Heian architecture, it just stood out like a sore thumb against the rest of the picturesque Kirian landscape. Something like this, well, more looked like it belonged to a palace somewhere in the Fire Country. That he knows from reading all his books. It only made Inori wonder if Kiri was aiming to hold the next universal event or something... Maybe a cultural exchange festival of sorts?
Then again, mother and father had mentioned something as they came back from their vacation - a cruise tour to the southern peninsula of the Wind Country - at the end of October two years ago. He hadn't paid attention then, and was almost wishing he did now. But come now to think of it, this part of the village did look very... Hi no Kuni. This was quite bizarre. Why did they rebuild a whole Fire nation town in this part of Kiri? Inori shook his head, decisively deciding he was never going to quite understand the thought procedures of shinobi. He supposed that final thought had some credibility, as they were sending him to the Academy while still never once neglecting to mention sixteen was sorely due overage.
He headed off to the area with desks for reading first, and taking the curriculum scroll from his bookbag, began to unwind it. However it fumbled in his hands, and spilled aside in a long trail of ricepaper. Inori groaned silently to himself, as the other end of the scroll didn't stop spilling. He held the front end in his hand as he chased after the roll, taking care not to step on the ricepaper itself as it was quite delicate material and he did not want to tear it. At last, he was left looking at quite a long scroll. Even though he expected this, it was rather disheartening.
This...
He was expected to finish all of this? In a month? The Council must be delusional. With a inward sigh, he began to focus on rerolling the scroll. Even though it was late, he could hear the distant giggles of children in another isle, and the last thing he needed was for his assignment list to be rendered unreadable. Just as the thought passed his head, a child running by in a game of tag with the small boy following her accidentally knocked off the ink jar a man at the edge of one of the desks was using with her waving hands. He watched the jar fall in small motion with wide eyes. As black ink spilled all over the middle of the scroll, Inori's eye twitched.
"What's your problem!" He snapped, his rather angry voice standing out against the silence of the library. The little girl stopped in her steps, looking rather astonished, before tears started quickly swelling in her eyes. The waterworks began - Inori did his best to ignore the wailing - as furiously he began snatching up the scroll, not caring anymore if it becomes merely a crumpled mess in his hand. When he was done, standing intimidatingly over the small girl...
"Shut up." He demanded then. "Can you just shut up. You're a headache!"
The small girl, sniffing slightly but toning down, murmured: "I'm soree."
A small hiccup followed as fresh tears spilled.
"Soree..."
Guilt washed over him then. His brows furrowed.
It wasn't this little girl's fault he was in this predicament.
He knelt down, and his eyes half lowering, wrapped his arms around the child.
"It's ok. It's ok...don't cry..."
The ones watching seemed surprised at the sudden turn of gentleness.

Now, while all this was going on, a certain hippie foodie sage who also happened to be a ninja had been minding his own business concentrating quite hard on a piece of text. And also ignoring questioning stares either of confused familiarity, since he'd used to be quite the hot topic, or of less confused disappointment, because he was skipping class. Well, that wasn't strictly true. Andou was not skipping class, he had merely delegated it entirely to another member of the teaching staff without actually informing them. But he had faith that Mokujin would be able to cope with his puppet army.
After lunch, Andou had headed over to the library with the intent on researching ninjutsu. After having been defeated by his former student in a fight due to a deficit in chakra, he was determined to patch up this weakness. Although he had become more of a slacker in recent years, there were certain things you couldn't not take seriously. So needless to say, he was quite annoyed when a sudden sharp voice cut into his studying. A schoolchild fight? Really? Weren't kids still supposed to be in school? Ignoring his own academy shirking ways, Andou peered out from the shelf he had been standing behind. He could see Harumi-san running in to see what was going on and decided to step in.
"My, my. What do we have here?" He eyed the ink-stained scroll and Inori hugging the little girl with raised eyebrows. "Sounded a lot like child abuse just a minute ago. Wait a minute..." Andou narrowed his eyes suspiciously and drew a scroll from within his yukata. He opened it and peered inside, comparing the photo with the real thing. Yep, a definite fit. "Aren't you supposed to be in academy? Tsukimiya. As far as I'm aware, the bell hasn't rung for dismissal yet." Despite his disdain at Inori and the girl disturbing his peace only just now, Andou was speaking in a reasonably loud and clear voice, completely ignoring any whispers he may be generating.

The little girl stopped crying, and with an almost faint half-smile, lovely on his prettily delicate features, Inori patted her hair lightly. As her friend was still waiting, he gave her a light push.
"See you, onii-san." Said the child with a small, shy smile before she walked off to her friend.
Straightening up to full height, Inori took to rerolling the scroll. His eyes fell upon the damaged portion. The majority of the scroll was all right, but, a few lessons were partially obscured by ink. It was still useable, just not exactly the prime choice. His curriculum scroll may be somewhat ruined, but they certainly were to have versions from the previous semester or previous years. He can compare to this scroll. Even if there were to be differences, the Academy teaches the fundamentals, and there shouldn't be too much of a gap. He'll at least be able to pick out the basics and learn the rest in classes.
He had pretty much ignored the presence of the librarian. But when someone spoke to him insultingly, his eyes narrowed. His head turned haughtily to where the man was sitting.
"Mother says not to talk to strangers..." Came the stubborn retort. And then, to include insult to injurious words, he added.
"Much less suspicious old geezers."
With that, in a huff snatching up one of the stools, he marched off into the isles.

Andou felt a quick spark of annoyance at the little girl's quick recovery, but resolutely ignored it in favour of salvaging the situation. "I'm sure your mother also said to respect authority," he replied smoothly to Inori's retreating frame. Well, that was new. He'd never been compared to a geriatric before. Was it his hair? (It was probably his sour a** expression, his friend Cassie would say.)
He marched ahead to keep up with Inori. "In fact, I spoke with your mother just recently." This was a blatant lie. "I don't think that she would be happy to know that you've been skipping class on the first day." Andou checked his scroll again just to make sure that yes, it was Inori's first day, and there it was, his projected start date. And oh... what was this? Government sponsorship? Required to finish the academy within one month? Although Andou could tell already from the student's age and attitude to authority, this confirmed that Inori was no ordinary student. He followed Inori into the aisle.
"You still haven't answered my question. My name is Saitou Andou, and I'm principal of the academy. Naturally, I have a vested interest in making sure students attend academy. So why are you here instead of there? And that scroll looks very much like the academy syllabus." He gestured at Inori's ink-stained scroll, his tone deadly serious. "Defacing private property now, are we?"

"If you don't work for the government, you aren't authority. And I'm sure stalkers were contrary to the law the last I looked." Came the boy's deadpanned reply. Why was he even bothering with this man? It wasn't as if that face was going to show up in his life later, anyways. And unimportant faces were perfectly fine to delete off from memory in Inori's book. Therefore, he ignored the person following him. If he leaves the library and this person still follows, he'll call the police.
He scanned the isles.
Fiction... Nonfiction... Reference section...
Where were shinobi fundamentals? And this annoying little buzzing fly in his ear wasn't helping, either (he was referring to Andou and his questions). But when the older man mentioned his mother, Inori stopped in his step and turned, concern in his eyes.
"Is...is she all right?!"
The outburst was probably surprising, as the air of nonchalance had melded away for simply that one moment of emotional urgency. But, when Andou spoke more, realization struck him. A sharp hiss left his lips and he turned again.
"You liar."
The accusation hung heavy in the air.
"Mother didn't want me to attend. But I'm not giving her a choice on that matter."
With that, he picked up pace, wanting to lose this person in this maze of a library. Outside it hadn't looked that big... It seems the fundamental infrastructure was still in place at least. So this was the famous Kirigakurian collection.
A sneer answered Andou's persistence. He didn't give his name, it was a moot point for formal courtesy matters, and the other knew it already anyways.
"Some principal you are. Shouldn't you be in school?"
He bristled at the comment of the scroll.
"Obviously, as you saw, principal-san, accidents happen. Now, I'm sure they'll understand an accident of you being buried in books..."
Of course he didn't intend to make reality of that threat. Spotting a pile of dusty scrolls in the top shelf which he could barely see the kanji for "seals" - handseals, would this be? - Inori smacked the stool down on the ground, stood on it, and began reaching for the pile. After a few attempts at stretching his body out, deciding that it didn't work, Inori jumped. His hand managed to drag the extended wooden end of the largest scroll, but unfortunately, he also came tumbling down.
When he attempted to hold onto a lower shelf to break the fall, half a shelf full of books were torn cleanly from their lofty seats. Then it was all a domino effect and a tall-tale dust plume was all that was there to tell the librarian in the main area of the incident in this isle.

"I actually do work for the government," Andou responded back equally dryly. Newly reinstated, but still. "The academy is one of the branches of the civil shinobi service." What was this kid's problem? Andou had never dealt with this kind of personality before. And he was coming out sorely lacking. Although he did feel like he'd gained some sort of control over the situation (and revealed an alarming fact about Inori, or some of his fundamental motivations, that he somehow felt he wasn't meant to see) at Inori's sudden reaction when he mentioned his mother. Andou actually withdrew at that point and started to observe Inori's behaviour more carefully. He needn't have bothered at trying not to offend the young man though as Inori's poise returned as quickly as it had gone.
"Yes. That was a lie," Andou admittedly completely shamelessly, trailing Inori tightly around the library. "Strange of you to be registered for academy against your parents' will." He ignored Inori's (rather pertinent) point and was about to reply when Inori suddenly scrambled up a stool and reached up. If you asked Andou later he would tell you that he had seen it coming a mile away. Although it wasn't that far, Andou's senses definitely prickled at that point. "Wai-" he started, but didn't get very far.
CRASH! Years of combat training and real life or death situations had given Andou the ability to turn on a semblance of slow-mo vision whenever applicable. And it certainly was now. Although the books were an unorthodox enemy they had the potential to be just as dangerous as all the others Andou had faced. And the boy would be the first hit if he didn't do something. Quick as an arrow Andou jerked Inori off the stool and caught him safely before assuming the safest brace position against the book barrage. He didn't have a chance to push Inori out of the way which was probably just as well.
Meanwhile, Harumi had returned to her desk after that little girl incident. She had gently admonished the pair of children for running in the library but by the time she'd turned to that so very nice boy and Andou-san they were gone. Oh well, shinobi were shinobi.
She was just beginning to start a new puzzle when a cacophony coming from the reference section made her look up. And rush to the scene immediately. The thin cloud of dust wafting from the shelves told her all she needed to know and she immediately began to pull the books off Andou and Inori once she reached them. (Placing them neatly back in the shelves, of course. Books came first.)
"What happened here?" she asked simply. But her voice was devoid of its usual warmth. In fact, it sounded very much like... that Harumi was really really angry.

There was a coughing fit as dust filled the air. His eyes teared up - not from the accident, of course - and even as he coughed, Inori furiously attempted to regain his vision first. What was with this dangerous place? If they were going to build the shelves that high, they should set ladders up then! The string of complaints that would've left his lips were interrupted by a timely sneeze. Furiously, Inori waved his hand quickly, desiring the dust to disperse as quickly possible.
Someone was yelling, and as a faint stream of light broke through the gap of scrolls which widened. That was when he realized it didn't hurt as much as it should have. He should've gotten a whole string of new bruises, yet... His eyes grew big in surprise as he blinked out the last of the dust with the tears. He looked up, and sure enough, he had only been spared injuries because Andou had taken most of the hit.
"Andou-san!" Worryingly, Inori shifted enough to face the other, and began lightly pushing Andou with both his hands.
"Andou-san!"
The librarian's high-toned voice... Turning to her, his large green eyes still teary from the dust, he replied back equally angrily.
"Shouldn't you be more worried about human beings rather than books!"

Nero, against his better judgment, had decided to skip class. No real reason came to mind, other than boredom. He knew deep down there was a perfectly logical, highly appropriate reason or excuse for skipping his first real day of class, but it just wasn't coming to mind. He heard garbled talking a short distance away and hesitantly approached.
It was all so quiet, until a thunderous crashing noise had almost caused him to swallow his tongue in shock. He ducked behind a shelf, his hand on his chest feeling his heart beat as a bead of sweat ran down his face. He wiped it off quickly as to be sure it wouldn't fall and make a sound. He looked around the side of the shelf quickly ducking back, feeling he had been seen.
He gasped quietly upon looking a second time, seeing what appeared to be an authority figure on the floor, and another figure above them.
"Why does this stuff always happen to me. Why can't a library just be quiet like it's supposed to..." He said softly, cursing under his breath at the inconvenience of the current situation.
Well, if you had just gone to class today, maybe you would've learned a jutsu to help you get out of this, but no, you had to ditch, now you're stuck. He thought, somewhat irritated with himself for deciding to skip. He yawned quietly, and poked his head completely out for a few seconds, assuming he hadn't been seen, and watched the angry adult yell at the kid.

He probably shouldn't have said things like that. The librarian was going to kick them out, wasn't she? Could she even do that? Wasn't the library like, well, public property? But from how his previous comment was meant to drive home injuriously (as per usual), he thought to himself the cold dark aura of fury surrounding the librarian just got a little colder. He spotted a kid hiding at the corner turn of the isle, and an idea came to mind. Granted it wasn't a very honorable method of plan, but it was a plan nonetheless at least?
And the other kid's head was still poking into the isle. It was perfectly convincing, in Inori's opinion at least.
"My friend there and I were trying to get a head start in the Academy. We're beginning our first day late in the semester, and would like to not inconvenience our teachers." He began, boxing his tone down to a quieter level of courtesy. Smooth talk, smooth talk... Well at least he was telling the truth, just bending it a little his way. Inori gestured then to the scroll laying closest to him.
"Reading up on the handseals would've provided more detailed information. A mess was not intended... We will clean up and return the books to their proper order. Will you overlook this incident, madam?"
His formal courtesy was quite different from the angry words only mere moments ago. As Andou was simply lying on the pile of books (Inori was unsure if the other was really knocked out cold by perhaps a heavy dictionary or just acting), he rushed to Nero, pulled the other along cheerfully into the isle, and told the librarian that they would make sure to reassort the books properly. It seemed acceptable enough to her enough, as with a huff she turned to leave. Likely, she would probably return to check on the work.
It won't be until she left that he was willing to talk though.

Nero made a few unintelligible noises, as if he was thinking of what to say but not fully saying it. At last he decided on groaning and slapping his forehead with the palm of his hand. "What a bummer...stuck here cleaning up books...gahhh." He said, slightly annoyed at the project he had just been dragged into. He picked up a book and flipped through the pages, raising an eyebrow.
"Well...while we're stuck here, what's your name?" He asked, trying to start a conversation as to not be bored in silence.

Y a m a n a k a ღ I c h i z o k uThe best method is obviously the one that expends the least energy. Theme: Second Time Around
When the kid asked him, being oh so friendly instead of angry, Inori stared. Was this one dropped on his head young? Anyone else would've been rightly indignant, especially being charged responsibility of something that wasn't their due fault. The kid seemed young, probably a good couple of years younger. He hesitated, then. Was it...possible? This kid, could he be one of the shinobi Academy students?
He glanced quickly at Andou, who was still duly unconscious. But from what this person was saying before, classes were still in session... He glanced back at the kid, surveying the small stature, from the black hair to those gray eyes. A kindred spirit? Could it be? He glanced again at Andou's still form and back to the younger boy, and he whispered.
"Are you...a student of the Academy?"
He conveniently neglected to tell Nero that was the Academy principal, just in case the other really was skipping classes and have a nervous breakdown. Troublemakers tend to do that, see, and therefore by definition Inori only wasn't a troublemaker because hardly anything could rankle him. He gave himself a mental self-applaud, squashing any shred of moral pity he had for Andou. Emotional weakness only leads to exploitation, of course.
"Let's try to finish this quickly before he wakes."
He won't feel bad about leaving Andou behind. Nope, not at all. With that he bent over to pick up a book, and examined the volume for a few careful long moments.
"I'm Inori. Tsukimiya Inori. What's yours?"
Reassorting Books! It's quite a mess that Inori made. Books and scrolls about shinobi Fundamentals, books defining shinobi terms, Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, and more scrolls are all mixed together. Sort them out again to their proper places. DC: 13 Formula: 1d20 [18] + Int mod. [0] Successes: 1/10
