Through her raised hackles Mafa grinned as Sauda trotted up behind her. The other pup probably wasn't too good of a fighter but at least the numbers were almost even which was good. Her ears pinned back and her tail wagged a few times, she hoped this wouldn't get into a big fight anyways. She just wanted that meat and then wanted to be out of that area where the lions didn't stink the place up.

((Uh.. can't think of what else to put xD))

Still bristling, unwilling to back down even though another hyena cub had appeared, Binti roared, her still-youthful throat somehow managing to emit a relatively intimidating sound. "You arrogant, lying little weasel...if a little fox could have taken that down, then it says something for your hunting skills--or lack thereof that you had to come steal ours." she hissed out, eyes glinting menacingly. Obviously, she wasn't ready to back down--whether she'd eaten her fill or not, no one made a fool of her and got away with it...and more importantly, these stinking hyenas hadn't even asked for a share of the kill--she probably wouldn't have been willing to share it even if they had, but the rudeness of that oversight angered her, for some odd reason.

The roar caused Sauda to flinch involuntarily, and her little nose twitched a she sniffed at the lion. That meat was looking really good and her stomach continued to growl. Though, she didn't dare make a move while that lion was still around. She really didn't see why the lion was making such a fuss about it anyway, afterall, she had abandoned it and according to her, it was free for anyone that should want it.

Nevertheless, Sauda stood her ground. Lions must have a different way of thinking when it comes to things like that.. Shrugging slightly, she tried to make herself look bigger by bristling her fur and standing up as straight as she could. Overall, she probably looked very cute, though that wasn't what she was going for.

((Wee for noncreative moment. o.o))

Mafa on the other hand was looking anything but cute. She was blood stained, dusty, and bristled up quite a bit and was quite bigger than Sauda for she was older, even though she was really thin from the lack of food in the graveyard. She glared at the little lion, it obviously knew nothing, the famed laugh of a hyena rose out of her before she spoke,

"Boy you lions are dumb," she hissed "Any smart lion would know not to leave their kill just laying around, because you know what? Hyena's don't need hunting skills, this is what we do, we take stuff that's been left behind."

Her dull aqua eyes narrowed even more, she wasn't ready to back down either. Mafa didn't know if this would turn into an all out brawl; in fact she hoped it wouldn't because she had never acctually fought before. But who needs experience? It was the instinct that drove her. Her gaze skimmed over the cubs accompanying the lion, it was an odd bunch to say the least.

((Whee! Fun!))

Merry's eyes widened at the sight of hyenas. Oh boy, that couldn't be good. Notgoodnotgoodnotgoodnotgood! Glancing back and forth at the various cubs (god, they were all so young!) he cleared his throat and stepped forward. He might not have much in the mane department, but by gad, he was STILL an adult male, and this sort of thing was his job. He lowered his head and roared, showing his fangs. "I'm sorry, did I interrupt? You were just leaving, right? I'm sure these cubs would like to get back to their kill and their tree."

Mafa's gaze shifted from the cub to a male that had sauntered onto the scene. A look of confusion spread across her angered maw. This was an adult male? Looked kinda... Shrimpy (and cuuuute! xD). Mafa flinched slightly at his roar, it was intimidating but this pup didn't know when to back down,

"Acctually we were planning on sticking around. Whether these cubs want to keep bothering us is not something we can control."

The small form roamed slowly through these lands, his bright blue hues raised up and then dipped back down, not wanting to be seen. He then seen the hyena and lions. He whined a little bit, then stopped himself. The small jackal sunk down and began to shake. His small golden form was probably easy to see. He slowly crept behind a tree and hid behind it

"Please don't see me...."

Merry glanced at the bright gold jackal, and hoped it wasn't a threat. From what he'd heard, crouching was supposed to be a posture of submission amongst canines, instead of agression - man, dogs were weird. He swished his tail and bared his fangs again, trying to gague the size of the hyenas. "Listen, just go. It's not your kill, and I know you're able to hunt for yourselves or you wouldn't have gotten this far. You must know you're outclassed here - you're young, you're small. Go home, and we'll let you live."

Mafa snarled. She wasn't about to take orders from a lion, especially a lion who wasn't the head of the land around here. The hyena held her tail out and bristled up even more; trying to match the size of the lion but not getting anywhere close.

"This is what we do lion, we take food left behind. Outclassed as we are we will stay--or at least I shall, I've no home to return to and this is as good a place as any other. I'm not leaving"

Her ears twitched slightly and Mafa sniffed at the air a bit. She remembered Mafa telling her that lions were smelly and she wanted to see for herself, though the only thing she could smell at the moment was that delicious looking meat. Having no intention of just leaving and especially not taking orders from a lion, Sauda stood her ground, her fur bristling up a bit more in much the same fashion as Mafa's. Her tail flicked from side to side idly as she stared at the lion, nodding some at Mafa's words.

I really hope they leave soon.. I'm hungry.. Damn lions..

((Sorry it took me so long to respond again. sweatdrop ))

Merry eyed the hyenas. They did look underfed, and while he didn't think they could seriously hurt him, they might be able to get at one of the cubs if he was distraced, and who knew what would happen then? He glanced at the lion whose kill it was. While she wasn't exactly well-padded and sleek, she did look well-fed. Maybe discrection would be the better part of valor here.

Binti, not one to be forgotten, eyed the adult male lion suspiciously. where on earth did HE come from??? she wondered, not wanting to back down from her kill...at this point, it had come down to a matter of pride--if she backed down now, she'd never be able to face herself if this wasn't solved in a way that she could accept. Crouching low, she snarled again. "Hyenas are more than proficient when it comes to hunting...if you want to eat, there's two of you, and you're perfectly capable of taking down your own prey..." she growled, ears flat against her head. "Of course, if you're saying you're so much of a baby that you can't hunt for yourself, then I guess that hyenas' reputations are way overrated." she finished snidely, her quick eyes flashing from Mafa to Sauda.

Behind Binti, Essien looked a little confused by the situation. These were hyenas... what were they trying to do by challenging them? In his mind, lions were at the top of the wild hierarchy. The thought of them being challenged just did not compute.

"I think... there may be something wrong with them," he says quietly to Binti. He had been angry with them, but now he was just puzzled. "I would feel very bad if we had to harm a mentally injured creature..." He isn't trying to be cruel; he's completely sincere!

Blinking once, then twice at Essien's words, one could almost see the thoughts flickering through her brain as she processed what he'd said. Nodding decisively, she dropped an almost-curtsy at the pair of hyenas, although the look in her eyes made it a mocking gesture. "Essi, for once, has a point." she said. "After all, I wouldnt' want to be responsible for injuring creatures who were obviously dropped on their heads once too often as cubs..." she purred, tail lashing to and fro as she turned on her heel and padded away, her eyes betraying only slightly the depth of her hatred for hyenas. Foul, odious creatures... she thought with another snarl.

She... listened to him, for once? As soon as this registers he smiles and bounds after her, laughing a little beneath his breath.

"I know you'll feel much better walking away from that..." he says with a wide grin as he paws along beside her. He was about the same size as her at this age... it will beso odd for him when he's older, to look down at her! "I mean, they're lesser beings, but it isn't their fault that they're obviously defective." He just... doesn't know when to stop.
