Uh... no offence, but your band director is really stupid. From elementry school music class, most kids are taught to tap their toes to keep the tempo. No respectable music educator can say that its not useful. Believe it. Both my parents are music majors.

I have tapped my foot ever since I started playing 5 yrs ago. It helps me keep tempo with the director....

i also have the tapping foot syndrome. i can't help it. i was told in the 6th grade to tap my foot if i needed to. now, its not allowed? thats bull.

I dont think tapping your foot is bad. It keeps me in tempo. Thats how my middle school band director taught me. Always tap your foot to stay in tempo. So I think your band director is outta wack or something. I've heard alot of band directors encourage foot tapping. He's just crazy, at least i thats what i think.

DV1200 I tap my heel - its easier to do and quieter. smile I do that too sometimes. Especially when i'm playing drum set. If i tap my toes, then i'd be making a note. so i can hold down the hihat with my toe, but still use my heel to keep time.

No, tapping your foot isn't bad, as long as you aren't stomping or distracting someone. It is useful afterall and it's something most people have been taught since the beginning. My aunt was band teacher and that was like her secret weapon, every time some little kid wanted to quit she would find out why and help, and more often than not was the fact they couldn't "feel the beat."

Woah, We're the complete opposite.
In our school district, from beginner band all the way to high school we're TOLD to tap our foot.
But it was funny, because then you'd have 60+ people taping their foot on a hollow stage before a song and it'd sound like a stampeding herd of cattle xd
So now we're told to tap our toe. sweatdrop

Its now a habit. I can't help it. If I don't tap my toe it really bothers me. If I'm not tapping my toe, I have to keep my feet crossed. Any other way does not work for me.

tapping of the foot is awright because sometimes the band director just sits there and watches whee
heck..the whole flute and clarinet section tap and were the best sections! 3nodding
