Oh whee yeah, that's not a lot of people sad our freshman over here play pretty good biggrin and no, I'm not just saying that cuz' I'm one. xd

Our band has either 126, or 129 people in it. Our auditions are coming up next week ><;;;;

We've got right around 65 people between two bands. There are a couple really good freshmen in the other class (one of the drummers is the drummer for jazz band since our old one graduated, and one of the flute players is really good... I'd take her over all three sophomore flute players in WE anyday). The other class isn't ALL freshmen... just mostly. I think the flute section in the other class only has like one or two NON-freshmen in there (out of ten flutes >.<).

We don't do chairs in our band, but if we did, I'd be first. XD And I'm not just saying that... I practice 6-7 hours a week at LEAST, and that's just on flute (I also play sax). I plan on going to Cornish (an arts college in Seattle), so I work my butt off.

I wish our band would have chair assignments, but really and truly, I'm tempted to move to oboe just because I don't like my section. Most of them are either really blonde or really mean. I wish we could be more selective, but that's never going to happen.

My middle school band had 37 people...well, the honors band did. The intermediate band was about twice that size and the beginning band was about 4 times the size of the intermediate band. But I was at an arts school.

We are a section of 6 floutists and we have 1 freshman, he's our first guy floutist so we're being really nice to him. We don't really have auditions because we can't be selective. Our band is about 40 people, but we were lucky to get so many new freshman because last last year we were only about 25 people and we lost one person last year, but he was our best trumpet player. Our section is pretty good, but I wish we were bigger. We are the smallest band in our area so people have given us the nickname teeny weeny Hueneme. We maybe small but we have the largest sound, so we surprise a lot of people.

We had two guys that played the piccolo. One of them I guess quit band or something cuz' he never shows up anymore, and the other one like never comes to school.

During one of our away games the other band was really small. (only about 17-20 people) you could barely hear them at all, and when they played in the stands no one could hear it unless you really listened.

I have seemed to noticed that guy floutist quit fast because they think it is a girl instrument. When I was first staring out we had on guy in our class but he quit after a month. It's so sad, but when I went to band camp over in Arrowbear, in the flute section we had a guy and he was really good, kind of weird and gross, but he was good.

We have chair assignment when we switch over the concert band in the second semester. Currently I am fourth chair, but that might change soon, you never know.

Oh, that's really wicked! biggrin Do you play alto sax or tenor?

We don't do chairs in Marching Band, but we're getting ready to switch to concert band. Our school has four possible bands you can be in.

Symphonic Jazz Band
Concert Jazz Band
Symphonic Varsity Band
Concert Varsity Band

We were told today that before there were kids in the band that didn't make ANY of those, and so they had to do some paperwork and be educated more about music and then they would get another audition to see which band they would get into. Apparently the hardest bands to get into are the Symphonic ones.

We already got our audition music and I can't read it xp I know it's easy, but there's just all these little things that make it that much harder for me. I can't count music very well. I kinda just listen and then play what I hear. I can count all the easy stuff like quarter notes and whole notes and half notes, and stuff like that tho.

Hmm... if I were you I'd just suck it up and deal with it, especially if you really want to continue playing the flute. Just ignore all the morons in your section, they can't help being the way they are. xd There's people in my band that aren't too bright either.

For some reason people over are like 'Guy Floutist = f**', which is obviously not true. There are a lot of guys that are actually quite good with the flute, and there is no instrument that's just for guys or just for girls. whee it's so stupid when people say that the flute is for girls.
Fourth chair is pretty good! Congrats on your spot. 3nodding

Tenor. ^^ I love it... I've been playing for about a year. I learned for jazz band. It helps that I kinda LIKE the other tenor player in the class.... XD That's not why I learned it, though. My BD told me to 'cause I told her I wanted to be in the jazz band.

I've decided what to do about my little flute problem. Kick half of them (all three sophomores, a junior, and a senior who hasn't played since eighth grade) off flute, and put two of them on french horn, one on tuba, one on oboe, and one on bassoon. That would help our instrumentation problem (out of all those, we only have an oboe player) and save my sanity. XDD

Hey, that works. I can't wait until next semester, in which I get to lose two out of the four seniors, plus I get...three more instruments to play....

Swim team starts on monday and I have yet to get a physical. crap.

Yay!!!! I've always preferred the Tenors over Altos xd I'd make another comment on that, except I have a few friends of mine I know IRL that are a part of this guild, and I don't exactly want them to know what I was about to say. xd You learned how to play Tenor in a year? Dang. Are you good at it??

xd You can't really make them switch over to other instruments though, can you? O.o

Our BD was telling us that we might end up with a problem like not having a certain instrument in one of our four bands, since we don't just go and even it out so there's an even number of every instrument in every band. You go into a certain band based on ur skillz. 3nodding xd

Our marching season is almost over - we have one or two more games left, depending on if we win home comming (tommorow)... but I start my applieds (private lessons for college credit) on Monday, so I'll still have something to motivate me to practice yay!

Grrr... lately people in other sections have really been hating on the piccs. You, know, I'm not even trying to toot my own horn or anything, but we really are one of the best sections in our band.. maybe the best. I don't know about you guys, but everyone in my section knows their music (most of it anyways... more than others can say... cept the drumline maybe) and we all get along, we all have good attitudes we all get hype at practice... Grrrr. I think people just hate because we have the smallest instruments but we can still cut through anyone's section. smile Trumpets included. Ok, I'm done venting. Do your picc./flute sections have bitter rivals in the band?

Your band sounds a bit like mine! whee We all pretty much know our music as well, and our drumline memorizes all their music. The piccs have to memorize their music as well, we don't get to use the special flip folders u can put on ur arms ><;;; Though we're required to have the flip folders, we don't use them out on the field. Every band that we've seen so far using them though has had a SERIOUS case of flute droop. xd

Our marching season is almost over as well. Today would have been the last game for us, BUT WHITMER WON!!!! xd YAY!!!!!!!!!! We're goin' to the playoffs! Screw St. John and their 9-1 record. (which is now 9-2 btw 3nodding ) Even the newspaper was against us. They predicted that St. John would win, but they were wrong xp
