A flickering, live tendril of Thread caught Mic's fail. She twitched, hissing with the pain, but kept flying without missing a beat. It seemed the Queen was mostly unperturbed.

Hour 3, Round 1 1. 1/3 for Antsy 2. 2/4 for Guilt
As if that weren't enough, when they went chasing after a little knot of Thread, Hesperith wasn't quite quick enough - she was just so sore - and they missed it and could only watch it fall towards the ground below.

They had had better days - much, much better days - and Hesperith in particular was beginning to struggle with this one. When a powerful gust of wind kicked up, she didn't have the strength to fight it, and was blown out of formation and into a small tangle of Thread. What a wretched day...

No matter how terrible Hesperith felt, nor how on edge Sylfie was after their near-miss earlier, the pair pushed on. They might be absolutely miserable, but they had a duty to do, and they would see it through, no matter how much it hurt. The night was far from over, and there was a lot of Thread yet to fall. And, Faranth forbid, there might be more dragons who needed catching...even if they weren't having good luck with that.

Things were calming down, to a degree - though the darkening sky wasn't making anything easier. Which meant that it was going to be harder to see stuff even higher up.
Which was probably how that strand of Thread got down to them in the first place, Anakumath letting out a small creel of pain before Marty moved them to a brief jump of safety to kill it. It wasn't so bad that we can't finish this out.
A whole lot of nothin'. The Queen's Wing can sure be quiet sometimes. You should be getting XP points for patience the way this is going. Part of you wonders how your fellow wingmates are doing... maybe your dragon can get you a status report.
It was quiet enough for now, and for once Marty's mind didn't wander off to certain people in wherhide pants. Instead, she was looking out at the rest of the dragons that were flying in the Queen's Wing.

A tangle of Thread manages to slip through! Though you try to get it, you're not fast enough, or aim was way off base. Though it doesn't hurt you and your dragon, you do watch as it makes it through the last line of defense, to fall upon the helpless world below. Crops, plants, animals, and even possibly people are now in danger... you can only hope the ground crews will find the burrow safely once Thread is through.
It got past them. Marty had been determined that nothing would fall past them, but it did despite her best efforts.....and it was so dark, she couldn't help but wonder how easily that tangle would be found by those below in the ground crews.

Your dragon is starting to feel tired. This particular fight is wearing them down. A strong gust of winds tries to throw them out of their position. Roll a D4 to see what happens!
2. Neutral! Your dragon begins to be blown out of position, but fights it by giving a few powerful flaps of their wings. There. No one noticed anything out of place.
They'd been up in the air a long time - which was nothing new, as a gold had stamina in spades.....but it did mean the winds that blew were targeting particularly tired dragons and while it did blow the pair out of position for a moment, a little effort put them right back.

As you're looking for the rogue Thread, you notice one of your wingmates in danger. You and your dragon call out warning and are lucky to see the pair respond. Quote a Wingmate and have all damage removed from their most recent roll!
In the dark, they had to be even more alert and Marty was on the lookout to make sure everything in their airspace was OK. And at this point, Marty was going to corner whoever was doing maintenance on the flamethrowers and ask them what the sharding daylights they were actually doing - as it seemed that Sylfie's equipment had left her hanging again.
Just like Marty had been left hanging more than once.
In the dark, finding clear air was hard, but Marty picked a spot, and Anakumath sent the coordinates on as a safe spot - Here! Quickly!
