The flight was relatively painless and soon, Ashley had touched down in Hau’Oli City in a timely fashion. It was quieter and less crowded than in Iki Town and so he walked the streets a bit until he found a suitable place to bunker down and start working. There was an available table outside one of the restaurants and he decided that would work for his needs, setting his cases down nearby before pulling out his computer once more and opening it up. Hopefully, Octave had continued with the tracing while he was distracted and he could start immediately on finding out who this hacker was and who would want Interpol information.

Fabian went wide-eyed for what… the fifth time that day as they stepped off the ferry and onto the docks to Hau’Oli City. This place was massive; like every other city they’d scrambled through. But the mixture of exotic scenery, fresh sea air and tourists in many directions painted the place just like a post card. It was incredible! Melody seemed equally impressed, though her expression wasn’t nearly as exaggerated as Fabian’s. They came to a pause as she looked at a map to figure out what direction they needed to go to head to the luau. A little digging and she was leading the way once more for the nearby route, Fabian excitedly following (nearly skipping honestly) behind.

Better. This was better. Adder let out a sigh. There had been... way too many people back there. Relaxing a bit, he started forward, trying to decide whether to let any of his pokemon out, and what he should tackle first -- pokedex stuff, or gyms? Or trials. Or kahunas. Or-- He promptly tripped over something on the ground, and was sent flying forward, landing hard, but luckily not breaking anything. His elbows and chin stung like hell, though. He groaned, then rolled over, glaring at what he tripped over-- a case. He snapped his gaze up to its owner. "Hey! Watch where you put your stuff!" he snapped, withdrawing his legs, and moving to push himself up to stand. He was pretty pissed, and brushed off his elbows, looking to see they were bleeding a bit, though not badly. Who the hell puts their stuff out there like that!? Ashley was engrossed in his computer at this point; he’d found a trail, put together a program to track it, done that and was now slowly weaseling his way through the system to find and collect what information he could on the would-be hacker. It was a slow and steady process, not because he couldn’t do it quickly, but given how recently it occurred and communications, there was obviously things he wasn’t supposed to find; he had no intention of being kicked before then.
So, when a small body managed to go from walking to disappearing towards the ground just over the top of his laptop, he blinked and semi-snapped from his focused trance to see what had happened. Shifting in his chair, a frown crossed his face to see that the small body was that of a child, who’d apparently managed to trip over his case. Surprising really, he hadn’t thought it that far from the table; though considering it, he wasn’t so surprised that he’d been careless enough to leave it jutting out just far enough for someone to catch on and trip. He could tell the boy was agitated too, by the rather curt remark he spat as he checked himself for injuries.
"Je suis désolé, I did not realize they were in ze way." Ashley apologized as he reached down and yanked the cases closer to his heels. He had a feeling though as he did, that this was less a situation of his case placement and more so someone simply not paying attention, but there was hardly a reason to call attention to such. Once that was done he sat back up in his seat, eyebrow quirking as he eyed the boy a moment.
"Are you alright, jeune homme?" The boy looked a little scuffed up but nothing seemed broken and he wasn’t wailing in pain so… no need to call paramedics as far as he could tell. Your average injuries really that anyone with a thick enough skin could get through; though it was still polite to inquire all the same.

Adder was a little caught off guard by how considerately the man responded. He didn't really understand the first part-- at least at first. Ashley gave Adder a questioning look of his own as the lad’s expression twisted from agitation to confusion, waiting patiently for a response to his question. The boy seemed to be going through a bit of a thought process or something and absently Ashley glanced back at his computer. Finally, the kid spoke up and he couldn’t help but frown a bit at the fact that his question… was completely ignored in favor of another. The Frenchman’s expression blanked a bit, eyebrow arched as he tried to fathom the sudden switch.
"… It is quite rude not to respond to a question that has been posed to you." Ashley remarked curtly, glancing back at the screen of his computer. He delayed a moment in responding to the question, on one hand to let that fact sink in and another because he was certain he’d seen this child before as well. Wasn’t he being scolded or something by a woman while he was going about on the egg hunt? He was familiar but it was certainly not something he’d committed to memory.
"Oui. I am French." Finally responding, he gave Adder a look again as his words fell short and he dropped into a stare. He wanted to comment on the ‘Yet’ part of not speaking but Ashley frowned a bit and looked down to see that Adder’s gaze seemed directed toward the gun at his side, looking back up at the boy. What? His brow furrowed a bit; was this going to be one of those situations where the kid started screaming about the weapon and all the stories their parents had told them? Because he did not have time to deal with that right now. Instead though, Adder took on a curious tone, inquiring if he was a cop. Alright, fair enough assumption.
Ashley was quiet a moment as a thoughtful expression crossed his face. It was simple question with a realistically simple answer. He shook his head finally, turning back to his computer and setting about typing again.

Adder pretty much ignored the comment on his etiquette. Instead, he maintained that poor attitude and just stared at the guy until he answered his question. He seemed to actually smile a little. He got it right! Not that it had been a particularly difficult identification, really... But whatever! He still got it right. He stared at the guy, reading his reaction to his other question-- one that carried a bit more weight. In fact, it would have been pretty disconcerting if he wasn't a cop, though he could always lie, and-- Wait what.
Adder blinked and stared when he answered he wasn't. And then told him where the police were. Without... any.... explanation. He stared at him, before straightening, his shoulders squaring as his expression quickly turned accusatory. "So then why do you have a gun?" he asked, not even slightly keeping his voice down. He didn't care who heard! If the guy wasn't an officer, they had a right to be warned he had a gun. What if he was dangerous or something? Sure, pokemon could breath fire, but even they could probably get hurt by a gun. And bullets moved fast. You wouldn't even have a chance at reacting....
And again, he ignored his other question. So rude.

He wasn’t one to comment on the manner teaching of other people’s children, but this one’s parents certainly needed a scolding because he apparently had none. If he’d had the audacity for it, Ashley might’ve ignored his next question just to show him how it felt.
But the reaction that followed didn’t really allow for that. The Frenchman blinked and cocked an eyebrow at Adder, noting the sudden shift in his demeanor, sensing the sudden unease that the truth of his response seemed to bring. It was…. Odd? Funny really. Ashley stared at Adder a moment as he inquired why he owned a gun if he was not a cop; was this child serious? He seemed serious, though Ashley couldn’t help but feel it was some elaborate prank. It wasn’t though.
"…Because it is my right to own a gun?" Ashley replied, tone showing no signs of concern or uncertainty, head tilting a bit as he gave a ‘what kind of question is that’ look. And that was the truth, mostly. He had a right, had passed the tests, and gotten licensing to own his weaponry and while there was the whole situation of his hitman occupation there was absolutely no reason for him to reveal such to some random inquiring child. "The police are not ze only ones who are permitted to own guns, mon ami. I am sorry if no one has bothered to inform you of such." That remark was a bit snide but Ashley didn’t seemed regretful, instead adjusting his glasses as he gave Adder another look.

Adder narrowed his eyes a bit. Yeah, yeah, sure, he was aware of permits and all, but seriously, who actually got those? And why would you need one, especially with Pokemon? It was suspicious, in his opinion. And cool. He eyed the guy, but bristled a bit at the use of the man's native language. "I'm not an 'ami'! I mean I'm... I'm not... tu... ami? Shut up, dont' call me that," he muttered, folding his arms over his chest. He totally didn't just misremember what 'ami' was for a second. He remembered, but... he'd definitely gotten it wrong initially.

Ashley’s brow furrowed a bit at Adder’s explosion, slight confusion written on his features. Wow, that was… that was something. He wasn’t even sure if he could dignify that with a response. Just wow. " ‘Mon ami’ means ‘my friend’ in French, jeune homme." Ashley finally remarked, tugging his glasses off an inspecting them a moment. "If you are interested in learning ze language, I would advise learning the more common referral phrases so you do not look like a fool."
Replacing his glasses, he couldn’t help but let out a sharp scoff at the blatant demand. Wow, what this kid for real? Ashley had to do a doubletake around the area just to confirm that he wasn’t being punked in some fashion. This boy was brazen; it was humorous and yet a shocker all the same. Everything looked clear so he just looked back at Adder with an amused look.
"I will show you no such thing." Ashley retorted, slight smirk still on his face as he tilted his head some. ”You are what… no more than ten? I have a feeling you would not be able to identify a gun license from a driver’s license." Ashley chuckled and shook his head, flicking a wrist through the air in a sort of ‘shoo’ing fashion. "I do not have time to entertain a spoiled child such as yourself. If you are able to act as you are, then I will assume you are not injured." The kid wasn’t dying so yeah… his good citizen duties were done at this point.

Adder, surprisingly, did not falter under the correction. "Yeah, I know. We're not friends. Don't call me that," he insisted. Either he hadn't heard of people using such phrases casually.... or he didn't care, and took them personally anyway. Or tried to correct the practice. "... I don't know what that second thing means," he admitted. 'Jeune homme'.... Yeah, he wasn't familiar with it. He was sort of hoping Ashley would tell him, though. Because he did want to learn the language. He hadn't sat down and actually tried, or practiced it, or anything, but... he liked languages. He was currently tryign to teach himself Chinese, which was hard, but... he wanted to learn more.
Adder bristled at the denial. "Wha... then you could be carrying it illegally! You want me to get the cops on you?" he semi-threatened, stubbornly crossing his arms over his chest. He glared back at Ashley, even more so when he seemed to ignore him. "I'm not spoiled," he added defiantly. He grimaced a bit as he felt the pokemon around his wrist now -- at some point, Cling had moved from his neck, back down ot his wrist, he hadn't even noticed -- tighten, and glow faintly, but he ignored it. Maybe the pokemon was trying to warn Ashe-- because Adder's gaze suddenly dropped down, and in a very fast, surprisingly agile move, he had grabbed the sniper case-- and darted off.

Ashley couldn’t help but roll his eyes at Adder’s response. Well someone was certainly defensive while also being blatantly rude. Of course, it was clear at this point that the boy had no coothe and that was a pipe dream to imagine he’d develop any now. "Well now, that is truly a shame is it not?" The Frenchman remarked, not at all clarifying what the second term he was using meant. The boy could do like every other person without a sense of humility could do, and go to the internet for a translation or something. At this point, he was no longer willing to humor him.
Ashley scoffed again. Was this child dumb? "Perhaps. But you still would not be able to tell." He shrugged and quirked an eyebrow, staring Adder down with controlled amusement. "If you wish. I have already directed you to ze precinct and I would be more than happy to remain here while you fetch an officer." He shrugged and shut the top of his laptop at this point. He had a feeling this kid wasn’t going away and so he’d have to relocate. What a hassle.
"Really? I would not have been able to tell with ze way you act." Pushing his glasses up a final time, Ashley made to stand, pausing only a moment when he caught sight of some slight glowing at Adder’s wrist, gaze narrowing as he tried to focus in on it. Was that a pokemon…? Not one he’d seen before. His focus on the strange sight and he was caught off guard for a moment as Adder ducked down and… snatched his sniper case right off the ground. And ran off with it.

It took only a moment for what had happened to snap into place and Ashley swore loudly, snatching the strap of his laptop (darn good thing he’d closed it before beelining after Adder’s fleeing form). "Come back here you little thief!" He shouted, adjusting the laptop case so that it wasn’t flailing everywhere before giving proper chase. Just who the hell was this child thinking he was?

Adder was sprinting. He was fast, though he wasn't exactly an athlete. He knew the area really well, though. He darted around, weaving, jumping fences, doing loops and circles, and even went down to the docks to lead Ashley to the end of the dock, before stealthily hopping boats and sneaking around the building to reach the other end, before bolting again. He hopped fences from there, heading straight for Route 2. He could hide in the cemetary, if he needed.... But man, this case was heavy. He really needed to find a place to duck into and hide out, soon....

- One thing was certain, Ashley was no unmoving desk-jockey. He kept pace with Adder well, quite well by his standards and if it hadn’t been for his well… lack of knowledge regarding the terrain and general city, he might’ve caught the kid a lot sooner. But he had to give Adder props, the kid was good and dodging and weaving and hiding like some well-trained Rattata. Trying to cut him off wasn’t working and so the most he could do was follow.
Ashley caught the boy sprinting over his shoulder after being led down to the very end of the docks, scowling in response. "Petit bâtard...," he cursed, immediately darting after the boy as headed for one of the routes, flinging himself over the same fence without issue. He didn’t know where this kid thought he was going but he wasn’t going to get far.

They hadn’t been on the water more than an hour when the speakers came to life. The captain informed everyone on board that, due to an issue with the engine (which they assured was not serious), the ship would be docking in Melemele Island’s port instead of continuing on to its original destination. Takumi was half-interested to hear that he had, apparently, been on his way to Unova. Instead, he felt a now-familiar panic grip him as he felt the boat turning ever so slightly in the water. He gripped Hauhani close to calm himself. He would have preferred Nala, but he knew Andrei would be asking after a boy with a vulpix. He got a fierce satisfaction out of knowing that Andrei didn’t know about Hauhani. Then Takumi remembered that anyone who had seen him that day might tell Andrei about her, and he hoped Andrei just set off after hisship instead of asking around. Now that he thought about it, maybe this re-routing was a blessing in disguise. Just imagining Andrei going all the way to Unova before finding out that the ship had turned around almost immediately… and now, Takumic ould get on any ship he wanted and possibly loose Andrei.
