When Twilight was still just a foal, he was prone to wandering off while his mother slept. During the day he kept very close, and watched very carefully. But as soon as the sun would begin to set and everyone and everything was beginning to settle down, was when he felt energized. He felt the urge to explore. While he did, he saw many things, many other kin, many animals. He loved the feeling of knowing he was alone in his awakeness and the stillness and calmness of the cold. While he was not particularly strong as a foal or even as an adult, his night time rambles taught him much about observing and tracking. He was always back before everyone awoke, so he'd have adequate time to at least get some sleep, there was one time he wasn't. And that was enough. His mother wasn't mad, but he earned that name, Runs at Twilight.

The attackers tempted him with the chance to turn on his companion and be allowed past unharmed, but Stays-True remained loyal. Their food stores were stolen and they earned a few good bruises, but he does not regret his choice. Stays-True would never turn on a friend, especially in a threatening situation. She could feel the cracks along her helm lengthening, could sense the strength of her back fading. If the little ones did not hurry, none of them would make it. It was better they lived to grow strong and she stayed behind, than for all of them to go down together. The doe winced, but still smiled.
One by one, they scrambled away. When the last of the lambs was gone, she buckled. At the very least, the nameless doe would die honorably. The rocks tumbled down, and she prepared herself.
...Only death never came. Unsteadily, she opened her eyes. There was blood on her forehead, but the rocks had caved just above her head- with just enough of a crook for her to survive. Letting out an unsteady breath, she laughed to herself.
The motherfather had smiled upon her. Truly, the spirits had sensed her loving.
