Surprisingly enough, Zak actually managed to get into the zone with work. His fingers flew across the keyboard and his eyes perused the screen rapidly. He paused only briefly to put in some headphones so that he could at least listen to music while he worked. From a little ways away, Lidia watched him out of the corner of her eye. Her attention typically shifted back to the battle, occasionally to her own communications device, and then to the sky. She would also glance down at the little bird pokemon standing beside the Russian. It was staring fiercely at the battles, its eyes narrowed in concentration, or perhaps anger—or both? She shifted her weight, pulling out another cigarette and lighting up. Either he didn’t hear it, or he was focused enough to put off replying—but she glanced over at the subtle ‘ping’ of another message.

Regardless of the reason for his procrastination, Zak finally pulled himself out of his work. He paused the music, took out his earbuds, and unplugged them, finally opening the message to reply. ”You were sure in the zone there,” she remarked dryly. ”Urusai,” he muttered back. She raised an eyebrow. ”… You’re not Japanese,” she observed flatly. ”Vat superb observashun skills,” he drawled back in response. She rolled her eyes. ”Then why do you—oh right, you’re an internet nerd.” She arched an eyebrow again when he didn’t so much as glance up, but shrugged, looking towards the battle. At least he was… semi-back on earth.

Sort of. Zak was involved in reading Scarlett’s message, so he wasn’t paying much mind to Lidia’s mocking. Besides, she knew he knew some Japanese. About as much as anyone who watched a little too much anime. She was just looking for things to goad him with.
For all his dower mood, he wasn’t sure how to respond to Scarlett’s reply. She seemed to enjoy the story almost too much, but that was probably just his sourness talking. He would let her have the laugh, he decided, and not make some snarking response. As moody as he was being, he would rather not deal with the repercussions of picking a fight with the redhead. Besides, talking to her was giving him a distraction to focus on, something to do… and some… unique stories to read.
He quirked an eyebrow, looking at her tail a moment. Finally, though, a smirk crossed his face, and he tilted his head to the side, before he started typing his response.
So judgmental, Mishka. What, you don’t have any special fun things for the bedroom?
Nice and short, but he was sure it would get a response. Hopefully. Probably some flirty, or playfully evasive, response, both of which he felt more in the mood for. With that sent, he finally closed his laptop and stood, placing his hands in his pockets as he turned his attention towards the battle field.

I’m going to have to go to the pokecenter or something to get more, at this rate,” she asked, watching him as he joined her in observing the matches. ”Probably a vhile longer. Zey steel have a lot of training to do,” he replied, watching as his pokemon’s opponent was brought down. ”Accent, Zak,” she reminded, taking a drag from her joint as she looked ahead. He sneered in response, then cracked his neck, looking away. ”So, what’s wrong with you?” he asked, turning his head to look at her, still looking slightly annoyed. At her questioning expression, he jerked his chin towards the cigarette. She pressed her lips together and rolled her eyes away in response. ”It’s nothing,” she muttered back.

After a few, long seconds of him staring at her, she finally glanced back at him, her own expression of irritation on her face. ”’Perium’s got me on their watch list,” she uttered flatly. In response, he arched an eyebrow, but his expression remained otherwise passive, almost expectant, clearly waiting for some elaboration. This time, however, all he got was an annoyed scoff, and a roll of her eyes as she looked back towards the pokemon before them. Zak finally sneered, crossing his arms over his chest, and looking at her with clear annoyance and distaste, before finally speaking up. ”What? Did they catch you thinking traitorous thoughts?” he drawled. She glanced back at him, her own expression souring at the ambiguity of his tone; it was hard to tell whether he was mocking, joking, being sarcastic… or a mix. ”Not exactly,” she replied, moving to her bag, and pulling out a large bottle of scotch. She popped it open and pulled out her cigarette to take a swig, eying Zak as he held out his hand.

His expression twisted. ”… Twenty.” There was really no point in lying. ”Yeah, thought so. No way, dude,” she replied, taking another drink, ”I’m not risking the law for you.” Zak gave a hard scoff and snorted as he rolled his eyes, though this time, it was in amusement. ”Now you decide to follow the law? No wonder Imperium’s watching you,” he remarked with a smirk, though there was still a bitter edge to his smile. He didn’t really appreciate having to watch her drink if she wasn’t sharing, after all. She rolled her eyes up, but then closed them to take another drink.
Zak frowned when she continued to maintain her silence even after she’d swallowed and turned her attention to the battle. Finally, his eyes narrowed, and he stepped closer. ”What did you do, Lidia….?” he asked, his voice lower. She looked at him, but shook her head, and finally sighed. ”Nothing,” she muttered.

Zak stepped back, rolling his shoulders back but keeping his arms crossed as he stared at her. ”What were you thinking, then?” he corrected. Looking annoyed, she turned her head slightly, staring back at him. ”Imperium does some questionable things. And I’m not a complete sociopath. I just question their motives sometimes,” she replied flatly. He shook his head. ”You’re going to get your mind wiped,” he muttered, moving back towards his own things to get another cigarette. He stopped, though, pausing when he heard his laptop go off. He could hear a sound from Lidia, and glanced briefly back, only to see her back was to him.
”Go ahead and answer,” she called back, moving to go heal his pokemon for him, making him grimace a bit as he grabbed his laptop, ”Best not to keep her waiting…”

Rolling his eyes a bit, Zak brought his attention to his laptop, opening it and reading through Scarlett’s message. A dry, but amused smirk crossed over his face, and he scoffed to himself. She sure did think she knew him, didn’t she. How incredibly presumptuous of her. He almost wanted to prove her wrong, and he was tempted to be cruel, but… the drive to keep the conversation from going so sour so fast, not to mention the preference for amusement than another argument, kept him from going there.
Instead he stood, balancing his laptop on one arm while he typed with the other.
You’d be surprised how little you know of me, Mishka. But, I don’t doubt it. We’ll have to wait and see if you get to show me…
Or, perhaps I don’t have more stories because I’m just a good judge of character, hm? I don’t get myself into very many situations.
