Several minutes went by, without a singe sighting of an egg, before Huey's patience was rewarded. Their egg was in a tree of all places, nestled in the crook of one of the more low-hanging branches. The boy frowned as he stared up at the opaque colored plastic, wondering just how he'd manage to get this one; he was still too short to successfully reach the branch. Eventually, he came up with the idea to have Cloud retrieve the egg, and stretched up on his tip-toes he held his pokemon up within his arms as high as possible. Thankfully, that proved to be enough, and with a joyous cry Cloud grabbed onto the egg. "Alright!" Huey cheered, pulling him down to his body to give him a hug. Now they could head out to Kanto!

Wiping some sweat from his brow, Zak pulled out his communicator once he reached Cherrygrove. Not to answer a text, for once, but to just send one. There was a certain blond he was interested in catching up with, or at least checking in on.
Text to Apollo:
Hallo, Kotyonok. I don't suppose you'd be interested in catching up sometime~?
He left it (sort of) vague, and hopefully playful, before sending the message and looking around. This was his last location for Johto... and then he only had Kanto, and he'd be done. But first... he and his pokemon really needed some rest.

Zak emerged from the pokecenter with a yawn, stretching as the day was just barely getting started. Early riser; he had quite a bit of energy thanks to the past few days, and what was to come. Now, he just needed to find the egg for this place, and he could move onto Kanot. Maybe battle some gyms while he was at it? In fact, he should probably rearrange his team and train his pokemon some, too....

Meebus, obviously, was out, as far as the team went. Sotnik probably didn't need to get stronger at this point, either. Stranny was pretty strong as well. Technically, he could likely remove Deys if he needed as well, he figured. But as he moved Ten in (of course), and added Rufflet (certainly), he decided to let Boo stay inactive, for now. Instead, he would train up the Mudkip apollo had given him (finally). After all, if he recalled right, the first gym in Kanto was a rock type. It ought to be rather useful in that regard.

With his team reorganized, Zak figured he could likely take on the gyms he came across. Strong pokemon once he got further up, the weaker ones for the lower gyms. He also decided to actually train said lower strength pokemon, and set his soccer ball under his arm as he headed for the tall grass, his previous search team already out, and helping to look. Except Deys, who helped carry a tired, squeaking, half-awake Ten along to find some opponents for her and the others to train again.

Zak, of course, healed up Ten once the battle was over her, patting her as she wiggled happily. He looked up as another pokemon approached, letting her battle, and looking past it to Rufflet, who seemed to have found an egg in a bush, but was having some minor difficulty getting it out. He glanced back at Ten, then Deys, making sure she was good and looked after, before heading over to help the bird out. By the time they actually got it free, the battle was over, and they were ready to move on to the next region.

The walk from New Bark to Cherrygrove was uneventful; exactly how Keegan preferred it. Obviously, in such an open space between one place to another, interactions were few and far between; but he was well aware that there were trainers lurking in the shadows looking for a challenge and seeing as how he was sporting a Pikachu on his shoulders, they were bound to think he was someone to be challenged.
And he wasn’t having any of that. He stuck as close to the edge of the paths as he could, just in case he wanted to duck into the grass and pretend to be engaged in battle with some wild pokemon. Or heavily investigating them or something else that basically made it rude to interrupt him. Alanna didn’t seem to mind too much; this just meant less work for her trying to fend off both would be assailants and keep Keegan from passing out in the middle of nowhere. Honestly, the sooner they met up with Carrigan, the sooner she could rest even easier.

Keegan wasn’t just faking distraction of course; he had his camera in hand and was snapping some pictures of the local foliage. It wasn’t the most exciting thing to do and if anything, was dangerous; people always wanted to ask a photographer questions even when said photographer didn’t want to answer them. Still though, he wanted to make sure he kept his skills up for the time being; taking pictures was a much different beast for him that others. He relied on capturing interesting patterns in his images, noteworthy observations and figures that looked appropriate. His camera was rigged for a permanent monochrome filter to match how he saw the world and he liked it. The last thing he wanted was people asking him what was up with the hideous color composition going on in his pictures.
It wasn’t something he could help, though there was some humor to the situation. When you told someone you were colorblind, they seemed to immediately think all you saw were shades of grey, but even that wasn’t entirely true. And then once they understood the truth of the matter the exception that was Keegan appeared, and people suddenly became surprised and confused all over again. It was… interesting to say the least.

Keegan’s attention shifted as they entered the city. Now was the time to pay attention and he could already feel his nerves starting to rise. Cities had far more people than just the outskirts of town; which meant he’d need to put his avoidance skills to the test. He shoved his camera away for the time being to minimize anyone taking notice of him. He even shrugged Alanna off, much to the Pikachu’s disapproval. But so long as he didn’t burst into a run, she could accept it. Shoving his hands in the pockets of his coat, Keegan kept his gaze to the ground and followed the cracks of the side walk through the city. As much as the dread made it feel like he’d be notice at any minute, it was far from the case. Most the individuals he passed were invested in their own worlds or conversation, not at all worried (yet) by the skittery looking lad they were passing. Which was good. In no time flat, Keegan and Alanna were in and out of Cherrygrove City in no time flat, out on the next route towards Violet City.

Jun surveyed the forest, trying to ignore the feeling that he was like a wild animal being hunted. Instead he focused on listening, to the wind, the trees, and the distant sounds of movement. His legs ached from staying still for so long. He knew that the agents he'd nearly ran into earlier were gone, but it couldn't hurt to be careful.
The icy stone in his pocket had begun to leech cold to the point where his hip was almost painfully chilled. He wasn't sure yet what to do with it- selling it without Team Rocket finding out just seemed too risky. He had considered giving it back to get them to leave him alone, but he had a feeling that his old admin wouldn't stop there. They were just that kind of person.
With a sigh Jun finally moved, straightening with a grimace. His last run-in, not long after separating from Takumi, had not gone well. He'd barely made it out, much less made it out with all of his pokemon. He was lucky that his two eggs had been stored elsewhere or he would've lost them as well.
Leaving Takumi had left a sour taste in his mouth, but Jun hadn't seen how he'd had a choice. He didn't want to just drag the kid in to this, even if Jun did need the money. Takumi had seemed spooked, and that eye of his had spoken to some unsaid danger, but Jun had to imagine that he'd be better off on his own. He pushed the thoughts aside. He didn't have the luxury of allowing himself to feel guilt right now.
In fact, if the Kohails didn't know that Jun had taken Takumi with him, or if they knew but were willing to believe he just got wrapped up in it, he could very well return to the protective fold of the family. It had been his original plan, before Takumi waylaid him.

Jun trekked through the forest, stopping at a hollow to gather his eggs. While he brushed the leaves off he wondered yet again if it was worth the work to take care of them. No matter how many times he told himself that whatever hatched from them could be valuable teammates or worth selling (a hangover from his time with Team Rocket), it really just boiled down to him not being willing to give them up. Part of it was to protect them, but most of it was because he was stubborn and damned if he wasn't going to keep every last bit of anything that was actually his.
Jun carried the eggs with him, putting more distance between himself and the Rockets. An hour before dark he spotted a small stream and began searching for somewhere to spend the night. Once he found a suitable clearing he set to making the eggs comfortable, then gathered firewood. It might make him easier to spot but screw it, he wanted the warmth and the eggs needed it.

Trying to make a fire was the continued bane of Jun's existence. Minutes spent cold and hunched over the ground with his flint trying to coax a spark to life. He had resolved to catch a fire type, but of course there weren't any wild ones around here. He was wary of going into any towns until he hit the bigger ones where it was easier to not get spotted. If he could get to Violet City, he felt confident he could at least avoid any trouble during the day.
For now, however, Jun enjoyed his tiny fire and dwindling store of jerky. He didn't really mind though. Jun enjoyed the freedom, valuing it even higher after a life spent beholden to others. First the Kohails, then Team Rocket, neither of which had treated him as more than a convenient tool to be taken for granted. He knew a part of himself longed for the control, to not have to think for himself and just do. Not to mention the resources you had on hand when part of a group larger than yourself. Yet another reason why he felt he should have maybe kept Takumi around despite the danger.

The fire finally crackled to life, the soft tinder of his birch bark flaring. Once it caught on some of the smaller sticks, he knew he was in business. He moved the eggs closer to the warmth of the fire, then sat methodically breaking twigs apart before throwing them on the flames. One person couldn't gather that much for a fire, but he had made it more because he wanted to than because he needed it. It was a holdover from time spent in the colder north of Johto.
Those times seemed so far away now, removed even beyond the time he had spent at the Kohail's compound. He thought of that time spent with his father in the cold wilds as almost a dream. It was difficult to explain, but in many ways he thought of his time at the Kohail's as the beginning of who he was. The time before, he sometimes felt had happened to someone else. Most of the time it had been cold and boring, so it was no surprise he had thrown away most of those early memories.

Jun settled by the fire, and finally he took out the orb he had wrapped in a piece of tattered cloth. Here was the thing he was being hunted for. After he unwrapped it, the icy blues whirled under the firelight. He thought again of simply abndoning it- after all, what was he really accomplishing by keepng it out of Team Rocket's hands? Even if he succeeded, was it really worth it? Was it even his problem? How easy it would be to just leave it behind. But he knew that even then it wouldn't be a guarantee he'd be left alone. After all, he had betrayed them in a pretty spectacular fashion when he stole it in the first place. He hadn't been high up enough to really understand the way the bosses thought, and he loathed the thought of giving up the orb only to find it to have not mattered at all.
There was the option of sending it off into the world somehow, not putting it directly into Team Rocket;s hands. If ihe made it clear that he no longer had it, maybe they would leave him alone, more interested in actually getting it back.
Of course, there was always the third option. Use the orb himself. Capture the legendary bird that would answer its call. Use it to protect himself, while simultaneously painting a target on his back as long as he kept it with him.

Returning to Team Rocket wasn't an option in his mind, so either he got rid of the orb or made use of it. He knew he wasn't nearly strong enough to depend on just himself. The past few weeks had assured him of that
Leaning back against the tree, Jun closed his eyes. What did he know of the local pokemon? He would soon have two new hatches to deal with, and he still had Tonks. He would have to make do with what locals he could find beyond that, train them as best as he could to fight. He didn't really care for thinking of what to do beyond that, because he had no idea. He was confident he could avoid most direct fights anyways.
What purpose did he even have, now that he was on his own?
Maybe tracking Takumi down again wasn't such a bad idea.
