Nothing explosive, throwing knives, daggers, and miscellaneous assassin stuff. Too tired to think and I neglected to go back and figure out where the zeppelin was. My bad I'll change it as needed.

Hi all,

Kicking things into high gear now that I've got my mule involved with [NPC] work, so I hope you enjoy the posts.

Just friendly reminder to read the posts thoroughly and carefully (making assumptions can be a tricky and, often, dangerous thing). If there's something that is unclear, please quote me (or your other fellow players if necessary) with the post in question, highlight the section in red, and submit it here in the discussion thread.

Bloody's combat instincts came into play immediately as she saw the tail come down at her. For a moment, the world seemed to slow down for her as she began going through the various scenarios. She could leap backward, but that would put her on defense. That would work to the scorpion's obvious advantage. She could try to dive forward, but if she wasn't fast enough she would get herself injured. She decided to push off with her right leg to the left. Thereby dodging it and keeping herself going forward. This put her within range of the scorpion's claws and flamethrower. She tensed as she waited for the next assault before she launched herself onto the scorpion to begin stabbing and hacking it.

(Think of it like this. She 'sidesteps' over to the next space as the tail gets closer. Even if its a machine, it can't change the trajectory with the momentum it has built up. This also puts Amelia within range of other weapons though.)

Post is looking good, but there are few things that I want to clarify and I was hoping you could make the necessary changes:

There are three scorpions, each equipped with a sickle on their tails. However, there are no pinchers/claws; instead, each is equipped with a unique weapon (drills, buzzsaws, and flamethrowers).

At the moment, the group is divided into three (four if you count Constantine, who at the moment is incapable of doing anything): Drills near the front of the house, where Blood and Trikks are at the moment; flamethrowers and buzzsaws in the backyard, where Alex, Rae, and Zedd are.

Evening all,

Gen's caught with a few things at the other guild and getting lunch ready, and since I'm still lurking around in her head I figured I'd do her a solid by posting this announcement.

Seems like Gaia's dead set on being one naughty truffle, these days: that bogus Adobe ad, gc tiers, and (more recently) the annihilation of zOMG!. Now, it's being a bother to our poppet, Darkerdemons, once again--slowing down her computer below freezing point and just being an all around nuisance (For once, it isn't me!).

Gen really doesn't want to send the RPG to the slaughter house just yet, and neither do I, for that matter. (I'm just getting started!) So she's proposing to relocate the entire RPG to another site called, recolor.me. It's website similar to Gaia/Tentacl (avatars, forums, and games if you like that sort of thing), so you'll feel right at home. That's just one of the options, at the moment. Gen will be happy to take other suggestions.

Dark has expressed that she'd rather finish the RPs here, within Gaia; Gen is good either way. Just waiting on the thoughts of the RP's last member.

I'm guessing that would be me! I honestly don't care where we do our rp as long as we get to do it. In my opinion, it's not the place that matters, but the people that you are doing the project with. As long as the three of us can rp together than I couldn't care less where we get it done! So long as we're together! ^_^

^^ Glad to hear it.

For the time being, we'll continue the RPG on Gaia, but just a heads up that I may implement a hiatus at any given moment to begin transferring whatever I can to the other site. If--and when--that does happen, please sign up with recolor.me and add me (Thornwick). I'll be notifying you both of the RPG's status.

Amelia had reached the side of the scorpion and she decided to flip onto her back. She looked for the knife she threw and found it lodged at the point just before the tail became a buzzsaw. She smiled deviously as she pulled the knife from her right arm with her left hand. Then tossed it to her right. She then grabbed a hold of something stationary and threw it as hard as she could aimed at the knife stuck in the plating. She had done these kinds of shots before. She had been practicing them by herself for th past ten years. Over the past two she had been able to nail this shot nine times out of ten. She then flipped back over believing she had hit it to cause some real damage as she pulled a fighting dagger from her left arm.

Commitment- A commitment of one or two posts a week (from each user) is all that is required to remain active without running away with things and leaving everyone else in the dust. The only exception is during a hiatus, when a player is unable to post; all else will result in the role-play moving on without you, or the discontinuation of the role-play.

Sorry, this post ended up larger than I originally intended. sweatdrop

I was wondering if it might be convenient for all of us if the post requirement was extended from 1-2 posts per week to 1-2 posts every two weeks.

The initial 1-2 posts per week seemed like a good commitment to aim for when the RPG was formed. Based on the number of misinterpretations and rushed posts, this time frame seems too short now. Fortunately the communication between users has been fantastic, so problems are quickly resolved. It looks like extending the deadline may reduce these problems though.

From Sport Psychology I've learned that one of the common mistakes with making goals is setting the goal too high. If the bar (A.K.A. goal) is set too high, athletes tend to feel frustrated and either give up or start trying too hard - neither of which actually help in achieving the goal. A better option is to lower the bar a bit so the athlete can reach it with some effort. After succeeding the bar can be raised a bit to encourage improvement.

An extended deadline might allow for the following suggestions:

  • Avoid posting immediately after reading a recently submitted post.

Take a day or even a couple days to let the post sink in.

Can you visualize what happened in the other player's post without thinking about how your character will respond?

  • Read the post again the next day!

Reread the post three or four times if necessary!

When we're excited we tend to read a new post quickly so we can quikly find out what happens and quikly form a response. Unfortunately, we're more likely to remember the general outcome of the post (e.g. our character was attacked) than the actual details (e.g. did I misspell quickly in the previous sentence?).

Ever read a brand new book and then, months later, discover entire scenes in the book that you don't recall reading before? Same concept.

Ask questions! If something about the post confuses you or seems unclear, ask the writer; they are the expert on their own posts.

  • After the reflection period and rereading the post ask yourself how you think your character(s) will respond.

No writing just yet! Unless you're making point form notes so you don't forget your ideas.

Can you think of different ways that your character might respond? Maybe they stomp off in a huff instead of yelling and screaming?

Can you put yourself in your character's shoes and actually feel what they feel and see what they see? The bonus to reflecting on the five senses is that you can use them to spruce up your writing!

I frequently take a few minutes in bed with my eyes closed imagining what my character is doing - sometimes I even act out different situations. Yes, this includes threatening an invisible man with my pen (my version of a character with a sword engaging their opponent). When Alex was hanging from the tail of the scorpion, being jerked side to side post a happy face in this thread, I was thinking about some of the wilder rides I've been on at amusement parks as well as my experiences on monkey bars.

  • Avoid posting if you feel rushed or short on time.

Most posts written in a rush noticeably show that they were written for speed instead of clarity. If you do not have the time to write, take advantage of the hiatus thread. We've all been in your seat at some point in time.

Also avoid posting if you're tired. We tend to make more mistakes when our bodies are screaming for sleep.

  • After submitting a post... wait a day and then slowly reread your own post!

We're often just as excited about posting a response as we are about reading others' posts.

Rereading our own posts allows us to pick out typos and parts that don't make sense - or could be interpreted differently. If other users take a day or two before they start typing their posts, then you have a chance to polish your post a bit.

My uncle, a writer, recommends saying what you wrote out loud. This forces you to slow down and read everything word for word. If you start stumbling over a sentence or paragraph, then you know what needs to be changed.

It seems that you're still adding the final touches to the post, but would you mind if I added this as a guideline to the RRG sticky (when you've finished)? Full credit will go to you, of course. 3nodding
