ֆ In this great length of time that has no limit or end…

She could tell from Kat's expression how badly the red-head wanted to tell her off, to probably throw a few explicative words as to how she felt towards her. And honestly, Alessa wouldn't really mind, because she felt the same way towards Kat. Preparing herself for insults to be thrown, she felt oddly off balance as a sandy colored wolf made his appearance known. She was confused, to say the least, as to why he was there. Didn't he have to watch over Tsukiko? Right....that guy came back. Alessa remembered seeing Palian at the entrance, briefly before her clone had gone off to the conference room with Ace. She wondered if Ryo knew that guy was back, seeing as it concerned his Tsukiko, but that was another thought for another time.

"Judging as how your sister resents me, it didn't seem like you really had a high opinion of me." She said as Ryo directed his ramblings at her. Having him momentarily break the tension between her and Kat didn't solve anything, so thus Alessa still kept her guard up. She had no idea what kind of history the blond and the ginger had with each other, but either way it wasn't helping the situation at hand. He was merely adding fuel to the fire, for the both of them.

In her eyes, Kat was the one who wronged her, in a way. Almost everyone had known about Alessa's and Ace's past relationship, so it didn't seem like any of the other girls (if any of them liked him) had tried. She was at least grateful for her reputation preceding her in this case. Kat was the only one bold enough to declare her as her rival over Ace. Alessa wondered (as Kat and Ryo had their little spat) why the red head hadn't tried to woo Ace beforehand, like when they were back at the school. Alessa would be able to stomach this confrontation from her easier if it wasn't so out of left field. Since when had the pirate liked Ace? Had they always gotten together like this when she got back from voyages? She quickly dismissed that thought. Whether or not he was my boyfriend, it shouldn't be my business to say who he can and can't hang out with. she reminded herself, but the sour taste in her mouth didn't go away.

Logically, she should be agreeing with Ryo, and she should be blaming Ace for all of this. What did he think he was doing, stringing not only her, but Kat like this? However, at the same time, she knew Ace wasn't one for conflict, especially if he could help it. It was just in his nature to try and keep everyone happy, so Alessa couldn't exactly blame him for being him. She just wished it hadn't been the feisty pirate captain; she was quite a hassle to handle and deal with when the red head wanted to be. Besides, she did love Ace, faults and all. Wasn't that a part of being in love? To accept their faults? Still, through all of the thinking, Alessa stayed on guard, one hand on her sword and scabbard. The atmosphere was like a ticking time bomb, highly charged but not detonating just yet. And Alessa wouldn't be caught off guard this time.

Kat had entirely enough of all the intrusions from unwanted parties. Looking over her shoulder at Ace, who was staying studiously silent, she wondered what he thought of all this. He was partly to blame after all. Orchestrating such a dilemma was something only he could have stumbled into. Its as if time and karma are working to get back at him for dying, each time twisting and making life all that more difficult for him and those around him.

However, motives aside, he was still her best friend and she would do right by him in any and all cases. With a sigh, she visibly relaxed her stance a fraction. A red dome shield rose up and surrounded her and Alessa. The barrier was thin enough so that their actions could easily be seen, but thick enough to be sound proof.

"You aren't winning any points with him when you act like this, you know that right?" she posed the question to the brooding young woman before her. Eyes lingering on Ace, she then locked her piercing blues on the DC captain.

"Whether you had something once doesn't play into how he is now. Its like starting from scratch. So even if you have feelings of entitlement, he doesn't feel the same. The more you force yourself on him, the more he'll try to get away. Ace isn't one to handle smothering well." Smiling as she said this, knowing that these words were hurtful even if they were true, Kat tried to be as plain as possible on this point.

"He'll hate you, if you keep trying to make him be how you imagine him."

Ace Price

Ace paused time the moment Kat created the barrier. He didn't know what to do, oddly enough Alessa was being non confrontal as she normally is, Kat was not being as agressive as well. He though she would have hit Alessa by now especially with Ryo not helping. He didn't know what his deal was with him especially as he had never spoken to the man. He had seen him once or twice, but they were in different groups and didn't even interact so what was he doing here? Did he know Kat or Alessa? God this situation sucked. How could he stop this from escalating? For all he knew he could make it worse.

He looked over at the two woman, not really knowing what to do. He started to try and bend time around him to send him in to the past, but as he did so he could feel the present and future heading further away from him. The feeling scared the ever loving hell out of him and he kept going wanting to know the other Ace. The one who knew both women and try and see if he couldn't do something about this. He got to a month and a half ago. Standing on the same spot he was on when he started to go back he looked around. He heard voices of others still setting up the small colony and looked to see what was the beginning of the houses. The ever pulling feeling as time continued to slowly let go of him.

He couldn't go any further back without thinking it would be over, but he didn't want to return to his own time. He had never actually done this sort of thing so he grabbed an item out of his pocket, and planted it about a foot under the sand so he could retrieve when he went back to see how much effect he had made on the future. With a small grin he looked up and thought a bit on what to do now as it now came to a point where he obviously wasn't getting any help. "I wonder who I would be the most happy with then..." About 5 minutes later he felt a great tug on his stomach and pain in about the same area. A few seconds later he was thrown back through time and landed in his current time with a crash. It hurt, but he got over it and quickly dug up his object which was there if not dirty and sandy. Pocketing it he had made his decision and unfroze time looking at the two seeing what was going to happen next.

ֆ In this great length of time that has no limit or end…

Though Kat had the barrier set up and she visibly relaxed, Alessa was still as tense as before, though she eased her stance. She still kept her hands on her sword, however; things were about to get heated, she knew it. Then Kat started to lecture her. And quite frankly, Alessa had had quite enough of it. What patience she had was quite gone, most of it spent on her run in with Miya and Kry.

"I'm not forcing myself onto him." She gritted through her teeth, closing her eyes in a futile attempt to try and calm down. She was sick and tired with everyone, how they wanted to add in their two cents about everything she did. "I'm not smothering him with anything. You're wrong." She glared back at the red head. "I may have feelings of entitlement, but that's not to say that he doesn't have some feelings for me back." She closed the small distance between them to give the other girl a shove back. The small amount of force did relieve some of the stress building up inside of her, but not enough to feel good.

"What would you know about it anyway?! Having to restart from absolute scratch? Do you even know what it's like to pick up what's left after everyone's left you?!" She was almost screaming at the girl. She shoved her, harder this time. "I'm just trying my best to keep my head above the water here! And you all think you can just tell me what I should and shouldn't do, even when I'm trying like everyone else! Just...just back off! Why can't you leave me and him alone!"

Quite honestly, somewhere deep down underneath her rage, there was a fear. Jealousy spawned from this fear, and gave way to her current anger, though she didn't quite realize it yet. Alessa was afraid of losing the only person to really accept her for who she was to the pirate captain. Though Ace had told her that she was perfect in her own way, did that hold a candle to this fiery, passionate, big bosomed girl? Though Alessa was a fine leader, there was a difference between her way and Kat's natural way of leading people. Not only that, but she could handle people, while Alessa tended to shy away from too much interaction. What if she lost Ace to this polar opposite of her? And she wouldn't be able to handle this rejection, not this time around. She was truly afraid. And scared, stressed people tended to make very bad decisions on their part.

Kat tossed her head back and laughed at Alessa's first statement. She couldn't help herself, the absurdity was just too much. Could this girl not honestly see herself and how her actions spoke for her?

"I'd say that stalking someone is a pretty high level of forcing ones company upon another," she barked, her laughter cutting off, letting her disgust show in her eyes and stance." Do you honestly think that he's only ever alone when he's not with you? Who are you to say who he associates with anyway? And what do you call your stomping onto my beach just to raise holy hell because he was enjoying himself and you weren't the cause?"

Then the thought struck her, just as she felt Alessa shove her. Alessa was jealous of her. It made the pirate stiffen, competing over someone affections was one thing, but there wasn't anything she could do to quell that sort of jealousy. Alessa and herself were completely different people, but Kat never really envied others their qualities before.

She shrugged off the motion, mostly because there wasn't any strength behind it and it was only fair. She had done the same at first. However, she knew that they were only a hairs breadth away from escalating the argument to petty threats and passive contact. However, the stinging in her chest from Alessa's next words fueled her to act where before she had tried to stay calm. Striking swift, she aimed a full swinging slap at Alessa's cheek after feeling the glancing blow of a more forceful shove. One shoulder bumped her barrier as she pivoted.

"Everybody on this god damned spit of land is in that same boat sister. We all have had to start over, or have you forgotten what our parents, our siblings, our families, did to us?" she spat, bitterness creeping into her otherwise clear voice. She swore she wouldn't think about them anymore, but her brothers and parents swam in her memory all the same.

Taking a few strides, Kat paced a little within the bubble she'd created. It was infuriating that some people chose to overlook why they were in this predicament in the first place. It was the entire world against them, and Kat was happy to be rid of them.

"Its called survival. I'd say that we've all been doing pretty well, all things considered." Kneeling a little, she looked down at the girl who seemed on the verge of crumbling. "You want to know why?"

"Because he is not yours alone," she answered coolly, not letting any of the emotions building within to leak out. " And I'll be damned if I'm going to live my life being corralled by a girl who can't handle that the only important person in my life is choosing to be around me and not you."

She visibly bristled at the accusation. "I was not stalking you two! I know I seem messed up to you, but I'm not that messed up, geez!" she yelled back, resisting the urge to throw her hands up in the air or slap her opponent in the face. Her cheek stung nicely from the slap, but she shrugged it off. The attack had cleared her rage a bit, and she agreed that she had overstepped an unspoken line there, especially since some of Kat's thoughts had been transmitted to her at the contact. It was unfair of her to forget even for a second that she was not the only one in this situation. "You're right, I was stupid to forget about why we're here." she said quietly. Still, she was still angry, so much in fact she was ready for actions, not words.

"But don't think I'm just going to stand here and let you take my most important person away from me."

Drawing her sword, there was little notice on Kat's part that Alessa was about to strike. The only sound was the sound of the steel scraping against the scabbard as the lavender haired girl unsheathed her weapon. She slashed downwards, not a lethal strike but still enough to cut skin or clothes. A warning strike, maybe. Alessa did not want to kill the girl before her, but holy hell, did she want to beat the s**t out of her pretty little red head.

Kat leaned back just as the blade went by, a strand of her red bangs were trimmed by the strike. Her own blade slipped from its scabbard in response, a surprised smile gracing her lips.

"So she does have cajones after all," Kat mocked as she tapped her steel against her opponents. " Let's see if they are big enough to back up the claim."

With a jovial shout, she lunges forward, doing a complex series of slashes and thrusts. She may not have been professionally trained for swordplay, but years doing peter pan and three musketeer plays left her with studious hours of experience, which she incorporated in her current affairs. And unlike with the wooden replicas from earlier, she was familiar with the feel and edge of the blade she flourished.

During their motions, the radius of the barrier expanded to eight feet, giving them a little more breathing room for this fight. Kat didn't like the idea of her own defenses being a hindrance.

"Important people can't be kept stupid," the pirate countered over the sound of their weapons meeting. "They are treasured."

Where it's all a blur, you are the hard line.

Snapping out of her thoughts as she looked at Palian. She was rather unsure of him, but Tsukiko trusted him. Only...it seemed to convenient that he appeared now. It hurt her to know that he easily brought Tsukiko out of her rut. Why couldn't he save her sooner this notion caused something inside her to boil. He was just as bad as the rest of these people. They didn't care about anyone, but themselves. It didn't matter what Tsukiko gave up, she'd never be be worth anything to them in their eyes.

"I think I might take you on that offer." He made Tsukiko happy, and she needed to know why. Miya wouldn't stand by like her brother had. She couldn't want Tsukiko be hurt again, but deep down she wanted this time to be different. Miya would give everything to be wrong, and for Tsukiko to be happy here. "If that's alright with both of you." Looking over at Tsukiko who gave her a sweet smile. It made her her feel slightly at ease, but she had to know for sure. These people had to protect Tsukiko, they needed to protect each other.

In the disorder, you are the peace sign.

"Of course they can't be kept stupid. That's grounds for some serious trust issues right there, for starters." Alessa replied, parrying her thrust and following up with her own. The sound of metal clashing rang through the cavern. "Besides, it takes two to have a relationship." Blocking another one of her attacks, Alessa tried to use her blade to block Kat's and get inside her defense. It wasn't easy though, considering the red head was taller and thus heavier than her. Plus she was experienced enough to not make novice mistakes. Still, if Alessa wanted to fight seriously, she'd have to make physical contact with Kat again. However, since the barrier had expanded to make more room for them to fight, it would be that much more difficult.

Is using my powers cheating? Kat used her powers to give a fair fight instead of trapping me in some itty bitty space. But all's fair in love and war, right? she wondered, twisting her body to avoid another thrust. If this were another one of Kat's stage productions, it would have been a well choreographed beautiful fight. That wasn't the case, as both girls were out for blood. Alessa could probably agree though that this certainly wasn't a fight to the death, however. Just enough to get a point across and to vent pent up anger at the other girl.

Palian

Only when you walk the line of nothingness...

Palian smiled his wicked grin, pleased that the young girl agreed to come along. He was new to the concept, but he liked to think the more the merrier.

"The offer would not have been extended had I thought your presence a hindrance," he responded straight forwardly. "Besides, would you really want to miss out on such an adventure?"

He looked towards the gaping maw of the cave mouth, eager to explore. It was the beginning of the biggest expedition of his existence and he fully intended to inspect every nook and cranny, absorbing all that he could. The prospect was all the more appealing, because he had Tsukiko at his side. Somehow, having her experience something knew with him seemed like it would be more enriching.

"Do you think there's pirate treasure in there?" he inquired, letting his breath tickle tsukiko's ear.

... Can you truly understand the difference between life and death.

Forgive me for those words, I know they’re but a cliche to you

"Why do I need treasure when I have you." She leaned up whispering in his ear before pressing a small kiss to his cheek. Miyako had been her first true treasure, and Palian her second. They were different treasures though. Miya her sister and her self proclaimed knight, and Palian her dream demon. She loved Ryo as well, but these two, they were hers. One day she'd have to share Miyako, but for today they both belong to her. "My two favorite people in the worlds are here with me today. Maybe I'm lucky enough we will find treasure."

She did her best to stand on her own, but noticed Miya on her other side effectively pressing her between the two.

"I think we have ourselves a trapped Tsukiko, Palian. I saw we keep her like this and never let her go." Miya's tone suggested more than Tsukiko wanted to know. Feeling her face turn pink she buried it in her hands.

But life is tiring, my feet are feeling sore.

" So you admit that you are smothering him. Good to know you are at least aware of it," Kat retorted with a tone of disapproval. The pirate wasn't about to think this was all the psychic had to bring to the table. As spectacular their swordplay appeared, she knew it was more of a testing of skill. Prodding each other for weaknesses and gauging each others mettle. She had to admit that Alessa was keeping up with her fairly well. Maybe she liked to fence when she was younger?

Then Alessa's blade sideswiped hers, a maneuver meant to break her defenses and allow for close range. If they were normal people, she would not have worried about any strikes the smaller girl could execute. But, being who they were, Kat knew not to take her appearance for granted. So she made more of an effort to keep the girl at arms length.

Maybe its not just about Ace, she thought. Maybe we are too similar to get along. I mean, we're both very stubborn and protective. Then again, she did ruin my winning streak against Ace. I can't let that go. Damn, he's not going to let me have a redo either.

Palian

Only when you walk the line of nothingness...

Palian's smile widened to unnatural proportions. He looked almost like a shark, all pointed teeth and curved up lips. But his eyes remained that icy clear blue, so she would know he was only playing.

"I've never been someones favorite before. Its a strange idea to associate with myself," the dream demon admitted with a shrug. However, in this case, he supposed it wasn't such a bad idea when considering the circumstances. Palian had evolved himself so that he could come back for this woman. Maybe it was only right that she had evolved herself as well. There was a lot of that going around.

"I like that idea," he answered Miya when she proposed their eternal capture of the Tsukiko between them. Seeing as he fully intended to be by her side forever, it wouldn't be hard to allow another the same privilege.

He wanted to say that he didn't know this girl, but the more he looked at her the more he was able to tie a sense of recognition to her. Just another side affect of being in other peoples heads, he supposed.

Looking to the rest of the people that milled across the beach near the caves opening, Palian grew a little restless. If they were to go on an adventure, he didn't see why they had to postpone it so long. Palian wasn't a creature of patience.

"How many does it take to explore a cavern anyway?" he inquired a little sharply.

ֆ In this great length of time that has no limit or end…

Alessa grit her teeth at Kat's statement, swinging her sword with both hands so that there was more force behind each blow. "I would appreciate it if you would refrain from stuffing words in my mouth." she ground out, her blade clashing with Kat's. It wasn't easy to get close to her, not when she kept her defense up and the space between them generous. There had to be some way to get closer to the red head. An idea formed in her head, and she knew she would injure herself trying to perform it. But if that's what it took to bring an end to this.

She parried and thrusted, not gaining or giving any ground to Kat. However, in a particularly heated clash of swords, Alessa used her unique cross guard to catch Kat's blade. Still holding the swords, she used that to take that step closer to Kat, and in that moment, she grabbed Kat's wrist to try and stop her from using her sword. Her emotions were running high, and all Alessa could think about was making Kat get off her high horse and shut up. Kat's thoughts ran into her head the moment she made contact, and something Alessa didn't immediately recognize through her rage ran from her to Kat. An exchange of sorts happened between them. But only those two could tell you what exactly was exchanged.

"I'll stuff more than words," the pirate countered, her tone a mixture of teasing and truly meaning it.

What started out as just another cocky standoff between them was quickly escalating to a full on serious bout. Each motion was equally matched and she had to concentrate more on her footwork and less on her witty banter. She didn't even know when that switch of play to serious had been flipped but here she was, game face on and completely focused.

Then in a twist of motion, her blade was caught in Alessa's cross guard, rising over their heads in an angle awkward for her wrist to yank out of.

"Damn," she whispered when she felt the girl's hand touch her skin. She broke out in a cold sweat, knowing that Alessa required touch to activate her power.

Don't let her see. In a last ditch effort, she pulled out her belt knife and plunged it into Alessa's shoulder. That, unfortunately, proved to only make it worse.

Kat was holding a crumpled body close to her, sobbing uncontrollably. Tears blurred her vision as she rocked back and forth shaking. The shadows of people surrounding them, but no one came near. Ace crumbling to dust in her arms.

"It broke," she said, over and over again, unable to make sense of it.

"Hey Kat, why the long face?" The familiar voice made her look up. There he was, as good as new.

"How?" she asked passed the snot and tears, but he only gave her a puzzled look.

"You ready to climb the library today? Been practicing your safety barriers, right?"

No.
He never knew.
And I just couldn't tell him.

Then the vision changed to a more recent sight, that of the lost DC headquarters. Kat was taller, a little older and trying to look serious. She was positively giddy, despite her efforts.

"Today's the day," she said to herself. Joining the other DC members, she took rank when Alessa stepped forward to commence her meeting. Kat didn't hear a word of it, but the vision had gone a little fuzzy, with the exception of Alessa herself.

I can't.

"Hey," she calls to the girl when the meeting ended. Awkwardly, the redhead pulled out a box and held it out for her captain. "Happy Valentine's Day." They stood there, as if frozen.

"You know, you are supposed to give chocolates to people you like today," Kat supplies, trying to ease the sudden tension. Alessa looks at the chocolates held out to her, then turns away.

"No thanks."

But I made them. For you. I'd never done that before.

Then a few faster images flashed by, one of them being the moment her barrier broke during the last major battle.

"Don't let go! I got you!" A much younger Ace clung by one hand to Kat. Dangling over the edge of the school's library, he looked more than a little frightened at the ground far below. Try as she might, tugging as hard as she could, Kat could not pull him up to the edge.

We liked to climb. The higher the better. We wanted to see what was beyond the walls. It was a challenge.

Then the image shifted, all the while the echoes of a scream bounced in their heads.
