The logical progression of course was to zigzag across the hall to B19.

It was completely devoid of anything interesting. With Fionnghal in one hand and his drink in the other, Taym gave America a flat, defiant look over the lip of his cup as he downed a swallow.

"Cool party," he said sarcastically. "Although I do appreciate the lack of two-way mirrors."

"Yeah, we didn't really need any for this," America replied absently as she opened the next door, B20. In the center of the room sat an iron maiden. It was open just a crack, and so of course she needed to open it up. The hinges were rusty with ages of disuse and took a great deal of struggle, but once it started moving, she was able to swing it wide open. Inside were the dry, almost mummified remains of someone, still pinned against the spikes.

"Well that's just not sanitary," she quipped, glancing over at Taym. Then she glanced back at the corpse and to Taym again, obviously comparing the two.

"Oh for ******** Christ," he said under his breath, closing his eyes and looking away. Why the hell was everyone here so nonchalant about dead bodies? Taym was decidedly not (yet) nonchalant about corpses. He looked back in time to catch the comparing look and gave her a weary, "don't say a goddamned word" sort of look, taking that as his cue to leave for the next room before she decided to say something she thought was clever.

"What's behind door number--" he stopped, checked "--b21."

He looked faintly disgusted as what it was was more of the same: manacles, dark spots. Typical dungeon things. Very good. "Commensurate with expectations," he said acerbically. "The designer clearly had a cohesive vision. No compromising of principles."

Old bodies were barely even people, Taym, it's like finding old dead moths. There's hardly even a smell. America held her tongue at his reaction, just shrugging instead. Who knows, maybe this was Taym's vision of the Ghost of Halloween Future or someshit. Peaking over his shoulder, she made a noice of agreement.

"Makes sense to have them close together. Like work stations or sommat. No bodies or bugs, though, right?" She clapped him on the shoulder, "Think you can handle more, or should we get back and maybe get snack or two in you?"

"Yeah. Great workflow efficiency," he said flatly, eyeing some of the more interestingly-shaped stains on the floor before shaking himself back to the present at America's next question and cringing discreetly away from her hand.

"I'm watching my figure," he said drily. "But my drink's empty, so yeah. Lead the way, sweetheart, and I promise not to pick any fights." The idea of Taym in a fight was laughable. The idea of Taym in a fight with Rep was too pathetic to laugh at. Oh well.

America nodded in understanding, "Got special dietary needs, eh? 'Cause of your condition? Must be hard, especially with rations as they are. Had an uncle with a gluten allergy once, terrible." She marched ahead, back toward the dimly lit party, lantern swinging. "I don't mind a fight, just...you, know. Take it toward the empty rooms."

They reached the party once more, and she held up the lantern, "We searched out four rooms, any of you lot think you can do better?"

Harrison didn't want to admit that he felt actual trepidation.

Last time he'd been in a situation like this, it had been in the school, and he'd ended up... But he'd been a ******** trainee. And nobody had been watching his back.

And that shadow guy, if he was lurking around in there...

Harrison finished off his beer, and took Rep's hand.

"Think you can handle some plastic skeletons and glow-in-the-dark ghosts?"

Rep had teetered off of the precipice of confidence and adrenaline and fallen into a deep mired valley of depression. In that place, the outfit was really starting to feel like a bad decision. He was irritated by how vulnerable and exposed he felt, pushing the thoughts aside as too womanly - or trying, they were stubborn.

He took Harrison's hand, but he frowned deeply. "Do we need to?"

Harrison took the lantern.

"I need to," he qualified grimly.

The first room they found didn't have anything even as menacing as a paper mache Frankenstein. Just boxes. Harrison held the lamp up closer to the boxes.

"Guess nobody's been in here in a while, he muttered.

Rep slouched along in the dark without his prior enthusiasm and vigor. Once again though he found himself puzzled by the way the darkness seemed selective, lurking at a distance as though an overhead spotlight shone on them both. He assumed it was the lantern, but it was a phenomena that had been cropping up a few times when there was no other light source in sight.

Tracey pre-empted.

Rep eyed the boxes in the room they found dismally, his initial desire to rummage through them replaced instead by a deep hopelessness at having nowhere to put anything. Even if they were full of bones he'd have to just leave them be.

He turned and headed back down the corridor, expecting nothing but disappointment.

b23 lived up to his expectations of misery, being just another storage room filled with boxes he couldn't peruse.

"Well, if we ever need boxes, this is the place to go," Harrison said, shining the light on another room full. He looked around, then brushed dust off his pants, feeling more confident and smirking at Rep.

"They only got through four rooms, huh? Trainees."

"I guess they got really distressed by the mess." Rep said glumly. "People seem to be really ******** irritated by other people's belongings. Maybe they went to go get H."

Room b25 was unsurprisingly - also boxes. Rep wilted a little at the sight.

"Its not the worst haunted house I've been to." he said, tugging the hem of his skirt down.

"Well, we've officially beaten what's-their-face," Harrison said, holding the glow of the lantern into a room that was completely empty.

"We should suggest 7 minutes in heaven for the next party game."

Rep took one look at the empty room and had a momentary flashback to the traumatically empty room that he called his own at the moment. He didn't even attempt to step inside, but kept going.

"I've never heard of that game." he admitted. "I'm a sheltered schoolgirl apparently."

The next room was locked and apparently inhabited, he left it alone and checked the next one.

"Would you ******** believe me if I said it was more boxes?"

"Never?"

Harrison reached over to lift Rep's skirt with his nightstick as they went to the next room. "Well, if you want me to go over the procedure with you, I don't mind. Nobody else is using these boxes."

Something squashed under Harrison's boots, and there was a whimper, which he assumed was from Rep. The lantern's glow didn't go too far.

The weird, (mechanic?) hum was harder to dismiss.

"Are you vibrating?" Harrison asked, feeling around with the nightstick skeptically.
