Shiro furrowed his brow for the moment, a little surprised to hear the question, but he took the time to think back to those days. It had been quite some time. Many things had changed since then.
"He was still a little rough around the edges, but his smiles were genuine. He cared for Ayumi, as well as those he worked with. Kaitou was also more carefree in those days. The business still had its darker edges, but... there at least was honor. In a way, we kept the streets a little safer, keeping the thuggish street gangs out of our territory. People paid us, we made sure they were safe."
The older reaper sighed and shook his head.
"Surprisingly, he was also fairly generous, considering. And he didn't believe in needless violence. Of course, enemies were still dealt with no mercy, but we never went out of our way to do such things."
At this, Shun was rather surprised. The man described wasn't anything like the one he had grown up around. It was hard to wrap his mind around imagining Kaitou being anything like that. It was just... bizarre.
"...He's really changed then."
"You could say that Ayumi's death snapped something inside of him. Something.. now irreparable."

So he really had been different. In fact, he had probably been fairly similar to Shun in a way but the death of his wife and time had changed him drastically. It was sad to think that he could have fallen so far, no longer caring about the remaining people around him. It was also heartbreaking to think that he could be so cold to his own child who Mitsu would have thought he would have held closer than all others.
Hearing the last thing that Shiro said Mitsu tilted her head up, her brows furrowed. "W..why would you say its irreparable? Do you not think he has a chance to change?" Was he so far gone he was now a lost cause? If that was the case what did that leave for their future?

Shiro took in a deep breath at that, "Maybe he does. But he has been progressively getting worse. It would probably take a great deal of effort or something big to get him to change at this point. After all... it's been about sixteen or seventeen years now."
Shun furrowed his brow at the thought. He certainly didn't really think that his father could change. As far as he remembered, the man has been this way all the time. Then again, he also never knew that the older man had been drastically different at a point either. He had changed once, could it happen again?
He looked to Mitsu curiously, wondering if she thought it could happen. Granted, he would have no ideas on how to go about that really.

It was something else to think about. If anything Mitsu believed people could change. Slowly Shun was changing himself after years of his upbringing in this environment. He was learning to open up a little more and allow people a little closer in his life. Could it be possible his father could learn to be that way again? It was also possible he could get progressively worse, as Shiro said he had been on a downward slope but maybe no one had known how to approach him. Perhaps he didn't know any other way to deal with his grief and let it get away from him. Mitsu could understand the feeling of loss, she had dealt with it herself though her outcome was more introverted and shy due to it instead of violent and uncaring.
Turning to Shun she met his gaze, she didn't say a word but her eyes held what she was thinking. There was a small chance it was possible. If she was going to be apart of this family she had to care about everyone that involved even if certain individuals were likely to be difficult to get along with. There was no guarantee but just maybe they could change the way his father saw things, if only a little.

In silence, Shun watched Mitsu, noticing that she seemed to be thinking about what thing or another. He would have to ask her more about it later on. But, it at least didn't look like she was distressed. The gears were turning in her head though.
After a time, Shiro looked between the two and smiled.
"Now.. is there anything else you two need?" he asked.
The younger reaper shook his head at this, then glanced to his lycan to see if she had anything else to ask or request.

Mitsu shook her head at that. "N..no. Our main purpose was to check up on you and make sure you were alright." And he was as well as could probably be hoped for. He wasn't as outwardly angry as Mitsu expected though it was possible he was very reserved in that right.

"Ah, yes I'm fine. It was a little jarring, but nothing I can't handle," he chuckled.
At that, Shun nodded and stood up.
"We'll be on our way then. Thank you for the mochi and information," he said quietly before reaching out to take Mitsu's hand so that they could leave together.

"Yes, thank you." Mitsu stood with Shun and bowed her head in respect though she leaned over again shortly after and plucked another piece of mochi off the plate that had been sitting in front of them. It seemed she was ready to leave then but she reconsidered and reached down to take one more before she took Shun's hand and headed for the door.

There was an amused look in Shun's eye as Mitsu snatched up two more pieces of mochi for herself before they went on out the door. She did enjoy her sweets. Once they were outside, he took in a breath and turned towards her.
"So what's on your mind?" he asked now that they were alone.

It wasn't long after they left that Shun started to question what was on her mind. Honestly it was hard for Mitsu to say. There wasn't just one thing on her mind there was a thousand but she went with what Shun was probably fishing for as far as an answer.
"I dunno...hearing that your father was once...different." She shrugged as if embarrassed by her idea, nibbling on her mochi. Would Shun really approve. "I just thought that if he could change once...why can't he change back?" Hopefully Kaitou was nothing like Suto though Shun's father did seem to be a little more sane...a little. Though Mitsu had no evidence that Suto was any different than the man she had always known.

"I can't really say for sure but.. if he can change it won't be easy," he said before looking to her curiously, "I wouldn't even know where to start for getting him to change back."
Getting people to change like that was not something he was familiar with at all. But he supposed that it wouldn't be entirely impossible. It just.. didn't seem very likely to him.

"I didn't say it would be easy.." Mitsu mumbled into her mochi. Though Shun had a point, knowing where to start was tricky. Kaitou had changed a lot and had likely built up a heavy wall to guard himself. It probably wouldn't be simple or quick but maybe...just maybe she could break through to him someday. His original self had to be inside him somewhere right? Could he really forget who he had once been or how he had once felt?
"Maybe we just need to remind him...little by little." Being too straight forward would likely make him angry so they would have to be subtle.
"By the way do you know how to make this?" She popped the piece of mochi she had been nibbling on in her mouth leaving her with one small piece. This squishy little treat was rather tasty and she hoped to enjoy it again at home.

It seemed like Mitsu was really considering this, though Shun felt that she would have a better chance at it than himself. She did manage to change him a little after all, but he still wasn't entirely certain.
"Maybe.. but you'll probably have to be careful," he said. He didn't know how Kaitou would react to whatever she might have in mind. While it would be good to get him to change if possible, he didn't want her to be hurt for trying.
"I... do not. I wonder if Xiu would though. If not, I can try to look it up if you'd like," he said thoughtfully. Since there apparently was a way to make it in a not traditional fashion, it might not be too difficult to make. It was just a matter of learning that. While he approached his bike, he paused for a moment, looking across the street. It was a fairly small shop that had a number of kimono on display.

Nodding at that Mitsu tried to think over what she could try that might be effective. She would definitely have to change her mode of thinking. As it stood now Kaitou was nothing like Shun so gauging how he would react to anything would be tricky.
Finally back at Shun's bike Mitsu popped the last piece of mochi into her mouth before grabbing for her helmet. She was about to put it on when she noticed Shun's attention wasn't on the bike or getting ready to go. Trying to follow his line of sight she found he was looking at a shop with long fancy robes in the window. They were kinda like the outfit she had borrowed from Xiu once for the festival.
"What are those?"

Shun glanced to Mitsu briefly, then back at the store before them.
"Those are kimono. A sort of traditional type of Japanese clothing," he said before thinking for a moment, "Would you like to take a look?"
