The creature had them both pinned in a flash, and before Harrison could try using his flabby mud-golem punches against it, it was asking them a question.
It had its claw up against his throat.
It was looking mainly at Rep, the rotting-dragon face reflecting in that mirrorface. Harrison choked up a string of swears, but wasn't able to get them out.
Beside him, Rep rasped something.
And then the creature backed off.
Harrison rubbed his throat, and scooted away reluctantly. He found an item in his hand. Whatever Rep had said had been about right, he guessed. They were free to go.
...The walk back, weirdly, wasn't as bad as the walk over. And by the time they got back in the glade and under the strange October Sun, it was almost nice. Even though he could still feel the bony claws around his neck.
"You get the feeling we met that guy before?" Harrison asked, rubbing the spot.

When they got pinned by the creature, Rep figured that was it, lights out, game over, back to Deus to explain how they ******** up good golems. It asked them a question, blank, unseeing, showing only themselves. It spoke of what hunters did, saw through their disguises.
The answer came to him almost on instinct.
It backed off, leaving him shaken and just a little chilled. As they left, he wondered if it had been worth the risks and tried to forget the hissing.
"He's an old friend of mine. I guess."

Part 1 Once again arriving at the forest entrance, Kari contemplated whether the path she kept taking had a note at all. Shaking the thought away, she strode into the forest and down the path leading to the glade to make sure she hadn't missed anything, ((OOC: Kari))

Part 3 Upon entering the glade, the tree didn't even wait for Kari to advance. It let out a thundering sound and threw all its effort into subduing its prey. Kari dodged with all her might. She landed backwards and prepared to whistle for her fiery friend once again, but the momentary lack of concentration on her part was not wasted. Within moments, kari was dangling upside down in the air from the vines. Scrunching her eyes and bracing herself for the impending throw, she instead felt herself falling downward. Slowly opening one eye, the first thing she saw was... Mr. X? He was apparently speaking with the tree, to great effect. With the tree placated, Mr. X turned to Kari and shoved a note into her hands, all the while mumbling something incomprehensible. Kari stared at the note in her hand. It wasn't the way she'd planned to get one, but she finally had a note. Now to figure out how to deliver it. ((OOC: Kari))

Helping professors was usually a good idea after all you never knew when you would end up in their class. Some professors were demanding, some had odd requests, and some didn't like students interfering at all. Sin was pleased to be asked for assistance, she was not so pleased to find out she was going into the forest. Hopefully she wasn't going to get in trouble since it was for a professor. She agreed to help retrieve these notes and nodded, oh sure and be a delivery girl to boot.
She headed towards the forest and frowned at the darkness that seemed to envelope the area, even the mild glow from her eyes barely helped her. She blinked at the sudden and complete silence and tried to walk with care. Her heels made an awful lot of noise and she felt oddly watched, she glanced around and blinked. If she didn't know any better she would say someone had called her name, but that wasn't possible was it? She felt a trickle of concern, the last time she'd heard her name being whispered things had ended badly.
"Hello?" Nothing, not so much as an echo.
She hurried along until she came to a forked path and glanced back, too dark to make out the path back to the booth. She turned ahead again and frowned, a dark cave and a lush glade, no tough choice there! She hurried towards the sweet smelling glade and tried not to get distracted by how colorful it was. Yet it was hard not to notice the incredible canopy, the vines everywhere! She moved to examine the vines curiously and then gasped as they suddenly started to curl around her. The sound of bells began to toll and the sound made her want to scream with frustration. Sin struggled and gasped her wings beating furiously as she was enfolded.
Her nails dug into the vines and she yanked a wrist free, her wings managed to get free of the vines and she yanked again harder. Suddenly the music of the bells ceased and she managed to yank herself free of the vines landing rather unceremoniously on the ground. She looked down and picked up an amulet blinking at it. Moving to her feet she decided she'd had quite enough, this might not be a note, but she sure as heck wasn't going to stick around!
"Here professor I found this, sorry it's not a note but-" She broke off as the amulet was suddenly snatched from her hands and she frowned at the hiss. It was a struggle not to cringe as Professor X suddenly loomed over her. She took her prize and stalked off frowning, for a moment she wanted to turn back and ask him about that amulet and why he was so touchy.
Amulet…amulet…she was reminded of something, a blue runic marked pendant she had, that island, the hunters, ugh maybe she didn't want to know. Strange amulets, pendants, forbidden areas, she just wanted to be left out of any trouble for once! Stopping to catch her breath, Kari looked up at Mr. X with a red face. "I delivered the note, but...that note was horrible, it made Miss Selene cry!", Kari shouted, her flailing her arms while her face kept shifting from upset to angry and back again. Part 1 With the note delivered and the message received, Kari stepped foot into the forest again to see what else she could find. Coming to a stop at the fork in the gravel road, Kari contemplated whether she really wanted to go into the glade again or if she dared to enter the cave. Upon hearing the ominous sounds emanating from the cave, Kari swiftly set herself on the path to the glade. She didn't know what was making those noises, but wasn't foolish enough to find out. Part 3 Arriving once again in the glade, Kari was surprised to find the tree was quiet for once. "Maybe it finally lost the will to fight", she murmured, pulling her scarf up further to block the scent wafting through the glade. Deciding to let the tree be this time, Kari started looking over the vines, Unfortunately, the vines didn't take kindly to her gawking. The sprang to life and shot towards her. As the vines wrapped around her, Kari struggled to get loose and a cacophony or bells sounded throughout the area. Realizing that struggling would get her nowhere, Kari opened her mouth as wide as she dared and bit down on the vines holding her captive. The sound of the bells took on a screeching tone that left Kari wishing she could cover her ears. It soon became unnecessary as the vines released her and the chiming died out. Kari had to take a moment to steady herself until the ringing in her ears subsided. As the vines receded, a sparkling object, like jewelry, caught Kari's eye. "An amulet? What could this possibly be doing here?", she queried while picking up the strange object. Slipping it into her pocket, Kari decided that she'd had enough excitement for one day, and jogged away from the vines and tree to where the exit lay to show her findings to Mr. X.
