Watching and waiting as she chewed, there were a few instances where her ears perked with interest or she just downright hid her face against the dirt because she couldn't keep watching the painful movements.
Though she did grin ever so slightly with smug satisfaction as that conceited doe limped away. Frith help her if that doe ended up actually being good for something.
Althea did, though, grow a little pensive on seeing Oxlip. Hunkering down against herself she thought on Cowslip and said a silent prayer for those that stopped running that night.
And for her own Crow, who stopped running as well. Oh, his heart still beat, but his mind had been gone since then. Never was the same, zorn-touched as he was.
Pulling out of her reverie, the owsla doe waited until the racers had quiet finished before beckoning her son over to hold council with him. The black buck shook his head here and there, his eyes distant. Althea might've snapped at him once upon a time, yelled, threatened. Her old tricks. But Crow had always remained unresponsive and she had all but given up on her son; accepting his distance with a quiet huff and sorrow in her eyes where once there had been only anger.
Wearily he recounted on what he'd seen, who'd been out of breath, who tripped, who crossed first, and the absurdity of the mad dash. It had been unorganized, dangerous, rabbits getting trampled instead of spreading out. If this had been on the farm, with the dog...
He shuddered, his whole being repulsed. These forced participation with other rabbits his marli kept inflicting upon him were exhausting and pointless. He didn't have the courage to argue it though, and simply hung his head as she laid out the plans for tomorrow. Which he was forced to help with, again. Cringing, he skulked off back to the scrapes where he nested away from the rest of the warren rabbits.

Approaching the gathering of rabbits for the second time today, some with breath and body already rebounded and others who looked like they might faint away in the grass, she shook her head before making her announcement.
"I don't think I need to tell many of you how that race went."
Her ears flicked as she drew herself up.
"But I will tell you the winners. Sparrow, Falcon, and Basil."
She nodded to each of the bucks in turn, somewhat disappointed that none of the does had made the cut. Not offering congratulations, since after all they still hadn't quite proven themselves yet, the doe dismissed the crowd.
"The next race will start tomorrow at Ni-frith, under the tree. All are welcome again. See you then."
And with that she bounded off. There were her regular duties to attend to, after all.
