The piece that was extended to her seemed to have all of the proper requirements from a distance, but as Ylaria gently plucked it from her hand without warning, she almost reflexively made a quiet tut tut sound. The setting kept the gem in the ring - technically - but it was immediately obvious that the stone was a bit loose. "Your concern over stability is appreciated...and warranted." She turned the ring to display the setting to Hel. "I believe you will find more security in a slight restructuring. Your current setting is feasible, but not at your best potential. Remember that the band exists to accent the gem, and conform the metal directly surrounding it in a way that exhibits this." She handed the ring back with a small smile. "You have done a lovely job, in spite of this." Sadi Sidhe I'm sorry I wasn't around earlier! If you don't get his question in today, definitely ask tomorrow. I have an answer ready for him. <33 Her eyes softened when they fell upon the patient student. "Do you require assistance?" And hardened again at the outburst. "You may give your gems-" She visibly stiffened. "-to another student, should you decide against using them." iStoleYurVamps You can have Isra ask tomorrow also if we don't get to him. <33 Sorry! ;; The little squirming bird amused her, and Ylaria kept her eye on him throughout each day's lecture. It would do him good to learn how to contain his excitement...but there was plenty of time for growth. "And you? Assistance as well?"

As he plopped down in the classroom for the next session, Thackery looked a bit exhausted. He'd had some trouble sleeping the previous night, clutching his eyephone close to his chest and waiting (im)patiently for each text to send and receive and send and receive all over again.
Regardless, he managed to pay attention to Ylaria better than he had before, intrigued by the powers granted by the gems that she discussed. Why couldn't all jewelry be that way? It was such a fantastic concept, decking oneself out in trinkets and accessories that made you more than visually awesome!
When the box of gemstones came around to him, he stared down at the contents with overflowing excitement. Couldn't he just take them all? Really, didn't he deserve them all? His greedy hand hovered over the glimmering pile, and he reached to snatch up a handful, pausing only when he caught sight of the necklace's framework. There was no room for this entire box full of stones. And wasn't there that saying...something about moderation...beauty in simplicity...oh, who knew.
Frowning in determination, he fished out a ruby, examining it in the flickering light as he held it up in front of him. Pretty and red with the property of devotion. It reminded him of Ash...and not just because he'd been busy missing him terribly over the past few days. It only made sense, then, that the jewel that sat beside it was amethyst. Purple, his favorite color! If he were a shiny stone, he imagined he would probably be something like amethyst. Maybe temperance didn't quite fit, whatever that meant, but he was sure that he wouldn't have to rely on the Death Clan Shinies magic forever.

After selecting his two and passing the box to a classmate, Thackery got to work on setting his stones. The most logical and aesthetically 'nice' of placements was, of course, in the very center, and that's what he went with. The little copper swirl there was kind of plain without gems, anyway.
He wrapped them in the extra wire that their instructor had included in the pouches for today, and fastened them to the center swirl of the necklace. In spite of his strongest of efforts to tighten the coils, the stones sat a little loose in their metal wire.
That was discouraging.
"I hope they stay in..." he mused aloud, turning the necklace over in his hands.

Hel usually would have been dismayed to be told that it needed to be better, but the fact that Ylaria was as kind to look it over without any scorn or condescension made the reaper feel really good about it. A small smile pulled at her lips and she nodded her head as she took it back. “ Ah, I see what you mean. I did not take the whole band into consideration as well. I shall go work on it now. Thank you.” She dipped her head a bit in gratitude, and returned to her seat to tweak the foundation for the gem. Still, there were those warm fuzzies at being complimented, that also made the ghoul want to try and solve this problem to further impress.

The rhythmic clicking of heels-against-floor caught her attention without much difficulty. The jewelcrafter appeared as if she might just lose her temper this time, her fingers twitching threateningly as she turned to scold the student that dared to call so much unwarranted attention to themselves. Instead, the sight of her guest sent her eyes glistening with her own sense of pride. For the first time since their class sessions had begun, the students would find Ylaria genuinely pleased. "Aisa!" she cooed, stepping forward to approach her. "Oh, such truth in that." A little laugh. "Nothing you could request would 'impose' upon me, my dear. What might I be able to do for you? You gems have been serving you well...I presume?" There was the slightest hint of concern in the latter inquiry. She certainly didn't want to send Aisa out into the world with faulty jewels.

Yay yay! Okay she was here. Holding out the ring at her he pointed to the leaf and vine motif. "Are these um- acceptable symbols? Or- are they bad? Wait are there special horseman symbols? Should I have done those?" His ear wings hung back a bit as he sunk slightly into his seat. "Sorry, sorry. I get excited. And ask questions. A lot of them." A smile. "I am trying to not be so loud."

West looked up from his ring as Aisa entered the room. The demon had only really had a handful of interactions with the Heir of Death, so short of exploding all of their jewelry, he didn't really know what to expect from her. When it seemed that nothing outrageous was going to happen, he turned his attention back to his bauble. He had snipped and unraveled quite a few of his strands of pale gold, and now he concentrated on adding a couple of the new shorter pieces of wire, jutting them out of the main body of the ring so that they could better grip the stone. He pressed the diamond into place first, then the tiny ruby, folding the wires over them carefully. It was messy, but truthfully, it was kind of amazing that he had been patient long enough to accomplish this much. When their teacher went all grrr at his question, West couldn't help but smirk faintly. He pushed the emerald the rest of the way toward Ev. "All yers."

"We do have our own motifs. Many, in fact. You may notice patterns and images used more frequently than others while visiting portions of the island, just like your own school's colors and insignia. If you're truly interested, I would suggest setting aside time for exploration." Ylaria could think of no better way for someone with very little knowledge of their clan and traditions to learn, starting from the basics, working off of what their own eyes could find. "Your symbols, however, are not "bad", but are not what I would consider particularly reflective of our clan. This is not "bad" either. I presume that they are reflective to you - special to you - and that is of greater importance." She completely ignored his apology and explanation; he seemed to understand the flaws in his actions. No need to reiterate.

When their time was up, they were each instructed to place the jewelry back into the pouch that contained their kit, where they would safely await the next day's work. Ylaria once again collected each one of them in order, locking them back in the latched box, before excusing them from the session. Day Three's Prompt/Assignment is HERE.

Kettil answered Julian's question, "Yeah. A couple of them. A meditation one and I think I'll try spelunking today or somethin'. I dunno yet," he said in a chipper tone but did not go into how well or badly he may have done mostly because by the time he could have drawn breath to do so the class had ended while he was watching the Horsewomen interact with each other in that sort of distracted manner that he tended to get when he was curious about things.
He had left the class and then, naturally come back the next day and watched the lecture intently - this time it was different and now there were Shades to fight. He stared at them blankly and set Endzela down a bit behind him, "Gotta do this m'self ghoulie. Just sit tight."
Endzela let out a small grumble of disagreement with this plan as she watched him put on the necklace. In her haughty opinion he looked funny with it on. Either way she didn't get to say so as he moved to punch the Shade only to miss and get pegged on the shoulder in turn.
"Ow!" Kettil shouted a bit and rubbed his shoulder. These things bit pretty good! Kettil's HP: 25/30 Shade's HP: 25/25 Gem Use: 1/1

Yesterday seemed to go by even quicker than the day before, though that didn't mean he'd enjoyed it any less. Surprisingly enough it seemed that Julian was actually making friends on his own. Sin and Cora's friendship had almost seemed forced on him, not that he was complaining. Tahki was a friend he made on his own, but this was the first time he felt like he wasn't having problems doing it. Well, he had been a little embarrassed with Lumi, but he seemed to be getting along with Kettil and Endzela.
This third class had him even more excited. What would they be doing today if they had completed their jewelry? He came in, took his seat and received his kit, eagerly awaiting the instructor to begin. He put the necklace on when he was told, the dark sapphire hanging a fair bit higher than the silver talon. And sprung to his feet when Ylaria released the shades upon them. They looked like the things he'd faced in the cavern, when he'd worn the amethyst ring. This would be his first real battle after completing his Y1 exams, he hoped it would set a good start.
Julian's HP :: 40 - 5 = 35 Opponent's HP :: 25 - 0 = 25 Gem Effect :: 2/2 (Success Roll was 7)

The previous day had passed and Mitsu wasn't nearly as social as she could have been but she had been busy working on her bracelet. It seemed the next day would really put her work to the test. As instructed she placed the bracelet on her wrist and waited for the teacher to begin. Her eyes grew wide watching the shades emerge. She hadn't been there at the trials but had heard stories of the shadow people that had attacked the students. So they were going to have to battle.
Readying herself Mitsu looked up to the teacher one last time before a shade made its way in front of her blocking her view. She studied the creature for a moment before it lunged forward far faster than she imagined it would and sliced her across the arm. The best she could do was move out of the way of further attacks and try to regain herself when she put a little distance between them.
HP: 40 - 3 = 37 Damage: 0 Shades HP: 25 Gem in use: Diamond: Take 3 damage each turn instead of 5.

Aurian showed up bright and early for the next day's class. She'd been quite sad to hand her finished brooch back at the end of yesterday's lesson. Not that there was anyone to show it off to who hadn't already been in the class, but Aurian kind of wanted to just wear it around. It was like Mai had said, they were very stylish accessories. So she was overjoyed when Ylaria handed their jewelry back. The instruction to put it on sent a jolt through Aurian. Oh. Oh. She remembered what wearing a sapphire brooch in the spelunking caves had done. Aurian jabbed herself with the pin as she tried to put on her brooch, so excited that she couldn't stop bouncing in place. Slightly more tender in a certain area, Aurian snapped to attention once the clasp was finally secure, brooch proudly displayed on the top left of her corset. "Don't be afraid," Ylaria said, but fear was the last thing that Aurian was feeling. Adrenaline spiked, particularly when the box was opened and shadow monsters of some kind leapt out. Aurian's shade was tall, towering over her, but in the end it was a shadow monster and Aurian couldn't help but smile up at it. She'd still kick its a**, of course, but couldn't be afraid of something that felt so familiar. "Alright, let's see what these gems can do," she said with a sharp grin. One form of playtime had come to end, and another one started. Oh yes, Aurian was looking forward to playing. To Ylaria, she called, "You don't mind if those of us with weapons call them for this, do you?" Nothing Yet Can Reapers use their weapons here?

The shade came in for another attack and Mitsu was quick to swipe at it trading blow for blow. While it seemed different than a student or a Hunter it felt similar, at least in regards to striking it. Perhaps this wouldn't be as bad as Mitsu thought.
