Lumena Town Square

Hooded cyan eyes gazed out from the shadows of a nearby building, where the Mononoke Reaper currently leaned her back against, arms folded across her chest. She was in a fowl mood today. There had been another attack. Another Witch Heart lost. And it had all happened right under the noses of the Reaper's stationed in Lumena. It was almost like a personal insult having crime such as this occur so easily. She was on edge now, eyes giving all that passed by her a hard look. Any of them could be next. And any of them could be the culprit. Then, just to add insult to injury, Shaden hadn't been able to suppress the small amount of relief she'd felt after learning that the female that had been the latest victim was no any of those younger ones she'd met the day before.

With a sigh, she moved from the shadowy spot she'd been standing to walk among the crowd. Her ears stayed pinned back yet alert for any screams...or other sounds that might be alarming. And, alright, she couldn't deny she was also keeping an eye out for any familiar faces. Best to know where they were and that they were indeed alright. She definitely wasn't used to feeling like this. Like an overprotective sister. Or something. But the one boy had been very sweet. The girl, if quiet, had been pleasant as well.

Groaning softly to herself, Shaden rubbed at her face to try and 'lighten up'. Maybe she needed to find something to do today. A distraction. Something to keep her mind off of other things.

Cedar stretched in the bed, the sun had trickles through the drapes and into her face. She let out a yawn and groaned, rolling onto her side. The bed was so warm, she didn't want to get up... But she had too. Her dress was getting altered, and she needed to pick it up and meet up with Kalypso again. Though... She had forgotten where they were meeting the boys again. They had been having so much fun at the Cafe.

Blinking a few times, she pushed back the blankets, and in her pjs, make her way to the window. She opened it, and it was chilly. It was fairly late in the morning, and the sun staggered as it rose. A soft breeze came, and with it, the voices she was so use too. Listening, Cedars face went from calm and relaxed to that of worry. The voices from the trees and bushes told her that there was another murder... And that who was being suspected, might not be what they thought. Cedar asked a few questions but they didn't know the answer. She shook her head with a thank you, and quickly got ready.

With the door closing behind her, Cedar has her cloak pulled on and she left quickly. Standing outside she looked around. She suddenly felt scared to go anywhere... But even being inside was going to be dangerous now. Cedar stood there frozen. What was going to do..? Who could she tell...? Reapers wouldn't listen to her...

Lumena Town Square: Le Ciel Sucré

Orpheus took a deep breath, pushed the hair out of his face and slipped the tray of cookies into the oven. He adjusted the previous tray where it lay in the racks, cooling at the side. Reaching over and into the tray, he plucked out a cat-shaped cookie which had yet to be decorated. As he withdrew his hand, he brushed the side of his hand against the tray and burned the skin. He sucked in a breath, dropping the cookie, and walking over to the basin to pour cold water on his hand.

He leaned against the counter, running his dry hand through his hair, sliding the orange and blonde locks away from his eyes. He hadn't slept, hadn't gone home. Phil had left to go home, or wherever it was he was needed, and he had never even answered Orpheus's question: Would you be my date? Orpheus closed his eyes, the irises glowing faintly through his lids. He couldn't imagine Phil would say no; would he? Perhaps he had merely been too stressed out to really answer.

And then there was the matter of the killings. Who was responsible? Was it one individual? Was it even an individual at all, or some old curse revived? The faint pain of his burn had dulled, and though it still hurt if he concentrated on it, Orpheus was able to push it to the back of his mind behind missing Phil, the ache of a sleepless night, the worry for whoever would be the next victim... If he was a reaper, maybe he could do something. But he wasn't. He was still a Witch, and despite his abilities with his portals and hammerspaces, he couldn't truly prevent or interfere with whatever was going on.

Orpheus picked the now-cool cookies off the old tray, and checked on the baking ones; they were swelling, easing closer to readiness. He slipped the cookies onto the wooden board where they prepared baked goods, and glanced out the window. The sun was rising, now. He decorated the cookies, some with sprinklings of cinnamon and sugar, others with a sugar-glaze painted orange and black in stripes. Halloween cats. He brought one of the crumbled cookies up to his mouth, and bit down, trimming the head from the body as he looked down at his carefully crafted cookies. Without much thought, he mechanically put all the ones with any imperfection into one clear bag, wrapping them, and then he gently placed the perfect cookies row by row into another bag, this one with a little porcelain plate at the bottom, tying it with ribbons.

When he took the third batch of cookies out of the oven, he merely left them in the cooling racks. The scheduled staff should be showing up any moment. He stepped into the square, and began to walk. To nowhere in particular. But when he saw Salem leaning against the wall, he walked over like he had always meant to be there. "Want a cookie?" he asked, with a half-assed smile, taking a cooking from the bag of crumbled ones and placing the paw in his mouth. He held the bag out towards Salem. His hair was a mess, and his clothing was severely wrinkled, not that it was particular abnormal for Orpheus to look so disheveled; his hair, however, he did like to keep clean. And his eyes were marked by dark shadows.

Lumena Town Square

After meeting Graveyard the previous day, they had gone their separate ways when night began to fall. Thus he'd holed himself up in his room, perched in a chair beside a window that faced the street and, window slightly open, he had stared out into the night, secretly wishing he had been given a night watch. With his ability to conceal himself within shadow itself he found himself more at home during the night than he day.

Despite that it didn't take him long to begin yawning, his weariness from the day's activities finally beckoning him to sleep. Upon waking and glancing outside, he noticed and odd tenseness about those keeping watch. Frowning he slipped into his armor, leaving his scythe concealed as a sword at his waist. Once done he ventured downstairs and went outside, immediately searching for Graveyard; he had promised that he would go shopping with her... Albeit reluctantly.

"Graveyard!" he called as he approached, glancing around the square and frowning. "It seems everyone is on edge today... What's going on?"

Lumena: Kyu's home

The bed sank just a little as Kyu sat down. Theofratus shifted a little to allow Kyu a little more room, a smile forming on his face in response to the one he saw on Kyu's. He felt a little better, seeing Kyu here. His hand settle in his lap as he sat the with kyu, unsure of what to say. They rarely talked actually. mostly they were busy sparring or Kyu was giving out directions. But the silence was fine with him as well. There was no need to fill it with unecessary words and meaningless chatter. That was what Theo believed. Why did people feel this need to fill the silence anyways? If anything, it was a good way to get to know someone else.

"I'm fine. Just a little headache, but that should go away pretty soon." Theo answered in response to Kyu's inquiry about his well-being. He was being honest. Besides the dull throbbing at the base of his skull, he felt fine. He didn't ache or anything, so he was mostly fine. Just.. tired. But he would be fine. Phil probably had some tonic or advice for it, though Theo was more than willing to bet Phil would tell him to sleep if he complained about tiredness. And to fix his diet probably. Theo smiled wryly as he glanced over at his twin brother. He ought to take his own advice sometimes. But they both had no right to say anything, given their state last night. They both had passed out from exhaustion. that much was clear. Thankfully Kyu let them stay over. Theo wondered what would they have done if Kyu wasn't around.

He looked up at Kyu in surprise when he felt the knight's hand grasp his own. Something akin to an electric shock ran up his arm where their skin made contact. The silenece felt charged, filled with something he couldn't quite put his finger on. "I'm sorry if I frightened you." Theo murmured softly. He rarely apologized for anything, but if he did, he was sincere about it. And he was truly sorry that he had frightened Kyu. But who was he to make Kyu scared? Hadn't he seen worse than someone fainting? But for some reason, he felt happy that Kyu was so concerned for him. Perhaps Kyu was finally allowing himself to feel again? Theo had to wonder. His blue eyes flickered upwards to meet Kyu's almost colourless ones, involuntarily sucking in a deep breath. For a moment, just for a moment, all he wanted to do was lean forward and kiss Kyu.

The grim killings didn't seem to stop the natural flow of traffic as the day grew on. Though it wasn't morning, and yet not afternoon. The sun was peaking, giving them a clear and crisp day for events to happen. It was too bad when one of those said events was a attack, and yet another on the long list.

Her arms still hugged around her as she turned to face the Dragon, ever the diligent worker as he came in armor and scythe/Sword concealed at his side. While she was a Ars Lilium, there was nothing her magic sensors couldn't feel out after all. She crooked her head up, giving him a small but sad smile.

"You mean on edge like yesterday? Or more on edge?" She bit her lip before chuckling, "That was rude of me, forgive me. It seem's another attack happened last night in a street not far from here." Her hands came out to wave to the area before she looked down ashamed. "It seems even my magic netting cannot venture that far. Or the attacker was protected." She sighed again before brightening, she wouldn't let the fear and despair take her over. She had seen far much worst in her dreams. Reaching out, she curled her arm in his and gave him a coy smile.

"So shopping today yes?" She ran her finger over the armor. "It's time to get you out of all this stiff metal Cruor. We'll find something nice for tomorrow night." She said gently, though her grip was like iron. Her ears tweaked in a puppies excitement.

Though as she walked, she felt the unease of the reapers around her. She used Cruor as a support line not to back down from their intense glares, her eyes finally landed on what looked like a Purple Snow Leopard reaper. It seemed that Cruor wasn't the only Mononoke in the Reaper ranks. She willed Purple eyes to meet the Cyan blue. Something seemed oddly familiar of the other female, or perhaps it was predator instinct.

Cruor frowned at Graveyard's posture, the sad edge to her smile, something that was unusual for the normally chipper Dream Catcher maker. He tilted his head slightly at her tone, frowning a little, before he grimaced at her words, glancing around the square, observing each face in turn. It certainly did explain the tense atmosphere that surrounded the entire area though, thankfully, it had only been one death... Admittedly that was a very poor manner in which to be optimistic about such things.

"I shouldn't have gone to bed. I will be more diligent tonight." Cruor muttered, turning his gaze back to Graveyard; he was too dedicated for his own good sometimes. "Have you known your magic to not work at such a distance?"

It seemed odd to him that Graveyard's magic would fail at all, really. After all she was an Ars Lillium and an elder of her tribe, thus her magic had to be formidably powerful. Whatever they faced, he believed, had to be something of considerable power... Or discretion. It was a little unnerving to think that something was slipping past them so easily.

"...Ah, yes, shopping." he muttered, heaving a sigh; it was a good thing he had a bag to carry his armor in. "And do you have something formal to wear?"

Cruor followed her closely as they headed for the nearest clothing store that might contain formal wear, not even bothering to glance at his fellow reapers; he had nothing to fear from them after all. However when Graveyard turned her head he followed her gaze, staring at the purple colored ears and tail on the reaper nearby. He then looked back to Graveyard, arching a brow at her in inquiry.

"Someone you know?"

Lumena Town Square

Strange. The crowd was not lighter than it was yesterday and though there was tension riding the air currents, people here were going about their usual business. Almost like they wanted to pretend nothing had happened. That there hadn't been an attack. And why was she still lingering in this town? Because she had orders. Shaden disliked Lumena. Or rather, to be more accurate, she was afraid of running into family here. This was her hometown. The one she had not returned to after graduating from Makai Royal Academy. Being here always managed to constantly keep her hackles raised.

Her ears flickered at any mention of interesting information. Though none of it she could use or didn't already know. Looked like the gossip train was failing her today. She sighed and gave another attempt to shift out of gloom and doom into something more cheerful.

She could really use that distraction right about now...

The Reaper blinked suddenly, ears flicking forward as she stared into violet eyes. It took her a good solid minute to connect that she had stopped moving and stood there, staring at a violet eyed Mononoke. There was something...about her gaze. It was refreshing and relaxing at the same time. Someone that didn't pose a threat. Which was strange to the Reaper as she had never met this Mononoke before. She did look vaguely familiar. Had she been around yesterday?

The sound of a masculine voice drew her attention, one ear swiveling slightly towards the Black Heart in red armor. Blinking, Shaden looked away from the woman in front of her and over to the man. Now him, she recognized. He was the one from yesterday. The other Reaper she'd spotted.

Cyan eyes flashed back towards those violet ones. "I...forgive me. I was...lost in my thoughts." Alright that was totally awkward. But what did one say or do in a situation like this? "Have we met before...?" The Reaper couldn't help but ask. Surely she would have remembered someone like this if she'd met her!

Graveyard patted Cruor's arm to comfort him. "Even you need your rest my friend. What good would have you been exhausted and facing the threat on the streets?" She shook her head, "Whether or not if you were strong, this foe has been slipping in and out of our grasp for the past week. It wouldn't be smart to challenge it now without knowing all the information." Her eyes hooded as she thought of the breeches in her barrier, slowly ever so slowly her magic had been spread thin, all over the town of Lumena. And while it acted like a trip wire switch, it was also easy to find if you were skilled. Most people in Lumena were.

"My Magic has its benefits and disadvantages. At the moment, its spread to thin and its exhausting to keep it up right now." She shuddered as she felt a small amount trickle back in. She pushed it back out in her network before smiling up at him again. "Do not fear, I will keep a eye out should we draw attention on this escapade." She said before going to meet the eye's of the snow leopard.

It was easy enough for them to pass right by her but when Cruor asked her if she knew her, Gravy shook her head and pondered, pulling the dragon to a stop. "Do you ever have the feeling when you meet someone without actually meeting them?" She watched as the other woman came over, fascinated with the soft ears and plush tail. Such a pretty thing and in the reaper establishment if she couldn't tell. "I should be asking you that, It seem's shes part of the Reaper association after all." Graveyard cocked her head as the girl came over to them and spoke. "Forgive me instead. I seemed to have been fascinated by the sensation of a feeling that I have met you somewhere though...I do not think we have." She smiled easily enough at the other mononoke before her eyes glinted with mischief, "My name is Graveyard, and this is my friend Cruor. Are you heading somewhere special?" Graveyard looked so at ease with the stranger, downright friendly considering the situation at hand and the position they were all in as protectors of the city. She was determined though to not get down over it.

Lea had been up and about since the break of dawn, the growling of his stomach waking him from his slumber like an alarm clock as it protested vehemently at being ignored and demanded to be fed immediately. The young mononoke had then left the inn shortly after breakfast, deciding that a walk around town was necessary before he started working on altering the navy blue suit that he had settled on eventually the day before. The buttons would require reinforcing, the sleeves and pant legs shortened to fit his lean frame and lastly, but certainly not the least important out of all the alterations, he would need to rip a hole in his pants to fit his tail. Something that consistently frustrated him to no end but hopefully the Halloween cookies he had every intention of procuring on the way back would put him in a much better mood for the tasks ahead.

As fate would have it, Lea's intended route took him to a shop that, of all places, was situated a mere stone's throw away from the scene of the murder that had laid claim to its most recent victim the night before. The crowd had already largely dispersed even before his visit to the shop, people trying to go about their livelihoods as if nothing untoward had happened. Still there were whispers of the terrible deed that had occurred. Whispers with details that Lea couldn't help but be privy to, his ears twitching nervously as he hurriedly fled the shop with his purchase. The victim was a middle-aged female or so, they had said. Lea heaved a sigh of relief at the knowledge that this person was unlikely to be anyone whom he knew then stopped to berate himself inwardly for thinking in that manner. Stranger or not, a murder that had taken place would translate to the forfeiture of someone's life plus he was pretty sure that that person still had family and friends who would now be grieving over their loss.

With a grim expression on his face and his lips pressed together in a thin line, Lea kept his gaze downcast and focused on the pavement as he made his way back to the inn in silence with only his thoughts for company.

Kyu's home, Lumena

Sometimes no matter what you do it's a little hard to prevent fated encounters. Kyu had learned to accept that ever since he had finally taken a clean choice, straying from the ever-wavering grey uncertainty of the borderline. What he had so long considered his reality, what he had so painstakingly protected, weaving this cocoon of illusions around him was falling apart piece by piece all around him and he was simply standing there doing nothing to pull it back in place. At this rate he might feel comfortable enough to share his innermost, darkest secret, emerging like a butterfly from amidst all the turmoil... but he couldn't let himself do that, not just yet anyway. There were too many things he would be putting at risk and he couldn't think only of himself in the end.

For now he was perfectly content just to listen. To simply sit there, listening carefully to the silence. It was okay, if only because it was just the two of them and Phil sleeping over on the couch. And there was some sort of understanding, in the silence, like the countless words exchanged during sparring without the need to ever actually talk; this sort of silent communication that somehow meant so much more than words ever would. It was a good thing he was on patrol on the day before. It was a good thing because he didn't even want to think where Theo and Phil would have done if he weren't around. Phil would still probably had taken Theo to the Home to rest, but even so. With all the incidents occurring and nobody knowing who or even what in the world was behind it he couldn't bring himself to entrust their safety to anyone but himself in person.

Maybe he was simply worrying unreasonably much. He didn't want to seem like he was going overboard, didn't want to admit he was so deeply afraid of something going wrong. And he really couldn't bring himself to say anything more, even less when Theo apologized. He couldn't sincerely remember an occasion in which the boy had apologized in the past. His emotions would show more through actions rather than words but he did feel thankful that for once he actually said something. And what exactly did he make of it? "It's okay... What matters is that you're okay now..." he sighed, swallowing hard as he spoke that. He felt himself hovering over the edge when his eyes met Theo's vast blue stare, as if he was mentally preparing to take a leap of faith. If he fell there was no guarantee he would get back up though. It was more than just dangerous and he could say that he was afraid of that fall more than anything in this world in that moment.

And even though he was afraid enough that if his body didn't feel as numb would be shaking uncontrollably he found himself leaning closer for a reason he couldn't understand, compelled by unknown forces to actually jump, entrusting everything in that single flipped coin. Eyelids fell softly over his eyes and just a breath away his lips made contact, brushing against Theo's own uncertainly, in an almost timid manner. He could only pray that when he were to open his eyes his world wouldn't just shatter like the fragile shards of a mirror all over again.

Lumena: Kyu's Home

Sometime he wondered whether meeting Kyu was a chance encounter or whether it was meant to be. His brother had been the catalyst, the thing that brought them together. But what if he had never met Kyu? Who would he be today? He could only wonder. Their paths had crossed and for a while, they walked the same road, side by side. And for some reason, it felt as if they had come to a crossroads together, where the road split into many different pathways. Almost as if they could continue this way, walking together, or they could take different paths. Whether they came together again later was a different issue, but Theo wanted to keep on walking this road with the man sitting opposite him right now.

The silence stretched over them, similar to the way the sky covered the earth. The only thing Theo could hear was his heartbeat, pounding a ragged rhythm in his chest. As Kyu's eyes met his, he could have sword he almost felt as if he were being pulled by an irresistable force, drawing him closer and closer to Kyu. And he was helpess to struggle or fight against it. He leaned forward slightly, feeling almost compelled to kiss Kyu when Kyu's lips brushed against his own gently, almost akin to a butterfly's wing. Delicate and fragile. That was how the whole moment felt toe Theo. His eyelids fluttered shut as his hands reached out for Kyu's fac, his whole body responding to the kiss instinctively. He drew himself closer to Kyu, his hand brushing against the older man's jaw, curving over it as he pulled Kyu into a firmer kiss. If this proved to be a mistake, then so be it. He would not regret it.

Salem had finally lost feeling in his hands, or at least lost what feeling he’d ever had in them. The digits were pale, and contrasted violently with his filed black nails, though at the moment, they looked more like claws. They grew into points these days, an unforeseen consequence of his nature, and the tea he’d imbibed to ascend as he had to become a witch. He didn’t really mind them, because they actually assisted him in playing guitar; they made plucking strings much easier, which was a staple of his own playing style. He stared at them now, marveling at their perfection, taking a moment to admire himself.

When the moment was up, however, he felt very slightly silly at concentrating so hard on his fingernails. Of all his glory, he couldn’t find a finer feature than his fingernails? The cold was addling his brain. He didn’t quite feel the pain of his numbing body, but he knew how dangerous it was with this body. He’d push it to its limits, but he didn’t want to kill it OUTRIGHT. It had proved such a reliable vessel so far. He’d give it another half an hour, then he’d have to find a place to warm up before he took a chill. He considered slitting his palm open, as he did when casting his magic, and let the sickly hot ichor that served as his blood run down his palm and warm him, but decided against it. The idea was to remain inconspicuous, right? He’d catch more than a few strange looks if a puddle of blackened blood started pooling around him.

He had consigned himself to waiting even longer, letting himself slip into a dangerous doze brought on by the icy chill, when the familiar clicking of shoes on road filled his ears. Salem looked up, and none other than Orpheus was walking towards him, the tiniest of smiles perched on his lips, and Salem let it flow over to him. His own frown became less severe. Only slightly. His friend looked a wreck, his clothes rumpled, his normally well-kept and constantly-preened hair disheveled. Troubled thoughts seemed to be spreading like wildfire.

“You look worse than I do, my friend!” Salem let the smile come, for he did feel some genuine happiness at seeing the man. And the tiniest bit of concern. Very strange, considering he was a human, and made no secret of his aspirations to become a reaper. “I’d begun to think you’d forgotten me.”

He glanced down at the bag his friend held, filled with some form of… At Orpheus’ utterance of the word, Salem grinned, almost ironic humor masking his desire to grab at one. “Why, don’t mind if I do!” He reached out toward the pile of baked goods and daintily grabbed at one, pinning it between two numb and slow-moving fingers. Once he’d popped it into his mouth, he realized that he hadn’t eaten in a day and a half, and the first crumbs hitting his stomach awoke a fierce growl. They were still warm, more lukewarm, and soft. Salem tried his damnedest to hide his pleasure, and cast his eye back up at his friend.

“In fact,” he said, with a chuckle, “I think I may want two. Come!” He added, spontaneously, with a spurt of uncharacteristic energy, “Let us walk! Old Salem can’t feel the bite of the cold, but he’d set his watch and warrant on you being a different story. Let’s find somewhere warmer to rest.” He really just wanted out of the cold.

Kyu's home, Lumena

Kyu fell; it felt much like that, the heart in his chest plummeting for a second before getting caught by Theo who not only returned the kiss but pulled him closer, a reassuring hand pressed lightly against the side of his face. He squeezed the held hand slightly more tightly his fingers curling involuntarily as his heart skipped into a wild thrashing from its standstill as he let himself shut down all rational thinking processes on the spot just so he could feel better -just so he could feel, with the entirety of what was his being, what it felt like to surrendered so many things in but one moment-. Because that was all it had truly taken, both to fall and to rise up again. The risks one had to take... he had never known, he'd have never-

"Theo..." he whispered his name in between fighting to breathe and trying to keep kissing him the best he possibly could. And all of a sudden he felt moved enough he could simply break down to tears. Just where were all those emotions flooding in from and what was he supposed to do in order to control them? He wasn't exactly prepared for this. And what if Phil woke up and found them kissing? How exactly would he explain what had went on? But he'd have to find a way, he decided, because he didn't exactly want to pull away just yet.

Despite Kyu's concerns, while Kyu was sharing a kiss with Theo, Phil had barely entered a state between being entirely asleep and waking and wasn't exactly conscious of his surroundings or anything although he did feel perfectly comfortable where he was. The day before had been hectic and it left him exhausted both physically and mentally. He had began to stir but was still plenty reluctant to wake, slipping back into resting as he were.

Lumena: Kyu's home

Some part of this felt very much like a dream, like a state between waking and sleeping. Either way, it felt like bliss. Pure, unadulterated, utter bliss. He was more or less drowning in it. His heart pounded loudly in his chest. He could almost feel himself trembling, being so close to Kyu. And somewhere in his heart, in his subconscious, a few words were being whispered. I finally found you. Those few words repeated themselves over and over again, even as Theo's other hand slid from Kyu's hand to brush against the other side of his face. Slowly, Theo pulled Kyu closer to himself, wanting to be closer to him. Just a little, or until they were pressing against each other, it didn't matter. He just wanted to be closer to the man here and now, who was finally within his reach. Just closer, a little closer.

"Shh." Theo hushed Kyu, and yet it thrilled him to hear Kyu call his name. He felt his blood singing, rushing through his veins. He felt liight headed, dizzy, delirious. Nothing really seemed to matter anymore, just the man before him. Not even Phil, who was but a few feet away. It didn't seem to matter. His thumb gently stroked Kyu's cheek, passing over the smooth skin. He wanted to stay like this forever, holding onto Kyu, kissing him, just being close to him. It was addictive, this much bliss, such delirium.

And Theo wanted it to never stop.
