"For the rest of the year?" Barth repeated, tone heavy with complete despair.

He was also baffled as to how the triangle could be worse than anything. Refined in its simplicity, light, quiet, uncomplicated. The worst thing he would have to do while playing it was count out 60 beats before hitting it again.

He pushed one of the tuba's knobby things, depressed.

"Yes," he said, "Thank you. If you could um, lug it deskward. That would be helpful."

"Err... well," Gabrian looked down at the poor sloth demon, whincing slightly, "I figured that would be the intended purpose of giving us an instrument after asking for our choices," a pause, "Though I honestly get impression he went out of his way to give us those instruments we ranks the lowest," he pondered this as he walked to leave the bagpipes on his desk, then returned to crouch down and pick up Barth's tuba, "Then again, he might be trying to teach us a lesson," he was about to get up and walk off to where he'd earlier seen the sloth demon seating, but paused when he noticed he was still sullenly on the floor.

"Cheer up. If you prop the thing up on the desk, it might just be a touch easier for you to handle," he waited a moment before carrying the instrument over to said desk and holding it there.

Bul had his fingers crossed tightly as the list of instruments were called out. When some were repeated he grew hopeful, thinking there would be a guitar or something in his future. But when he was called to play the drums he actually paused. Slowly, but surely he grinned excitedly and pumped his fists back. "Yessssss!" He hissed. His list was incredibly short and he only cared about what he numbered- and the drums were second.

"Sweet, I've always wanted to learn these," he said pleasantly. Bul didn't know how to play percussion but he was really willing to work with these. Seeing the amount of disappointment on everyone elses' faces was delightful in a way. Still he couldn't count his blessings yet- he could be stuck with just one drum... and not a snare or something interesting. Quickly, but not so fast that he may look like some over-geek klutz, Bul walked to the instructor's side with a toothy smile. "So, are we setting up whole sets or individual drums? If its individual uh... could I request at least a snare?" he asked, trying to be as polite as possible. After all, he got a pretty good instrument!

He had been practicing his viola as he awaited for their teacher to let them know what was going on. He had some misgivings about why they had to mark down their choice of instruments by numbers like that, but the envy demon tried not to wonder... or react on the bad feeling he was starting to get. The boil played softly, as to not bother anyone else, but he was comfortable with the instrument and the sounds gave him a semblance of peace. At least his parents weren't there to complain about the 'feminine' instrument he had chosen to play. As their professor spoke again, his playing halted and he set his precious viola down.

Did he... just say he had to play the violin? A look of bafflement crossed his face but it wasn't as bad as it could have been. His heart went out to Gabe and Ren for having... bagpipes to deal with. After he had put his bow and viola away and locked it up once more, he stood to go get the violin. It wasn't that different from the viola, truly, just they highest string was E and not A and there was no G string on a violin but he should do well. If he really had trouble, perhaps he could trouble Gabrian for some pointers. With a soft bow to Professor Blue, he took his new instrument and went to sit back down. Well, best to get to practicing it. No time like the present, right?

Lucien happily floated up to Professor Blue and waited in the line of students until his name had been called and he had been handed his instrument: a tambourine. He stared at it for a moment until Professor Blue started to look a little more than just unpleased. He smiled at the professor and took the tambourine from him and jingled it excitedly. Jingle jingle. It was so awesome! Unlike many of the other students Lucien was actually really excited to have gotten the instrument he did, even though he didn't even bother to fill out a form. He probably would have been happy with any instrument he got. It was so exciting. He didn't know what most of these were but now he could find out. He sure hoped that the professor would let him switch them up later so he could experience all of the instruments in full!

He didn't move out of the way for the other students though and continued to float in front of the professor and jingle the tambourine like it was the most awesome thing in the world. He couldn't care less that Professor Blue's tolerance for him seemed to be getting smaller, and smaller. Boy, did that professor look like he wanted to drown Lucien. It wasn't the song that bothered him though, so it was hard to tell just what was bothering the demon professor. Finally though Lucien seemed to get bored of the position he had been in and floated away from Professor Blue, plopping himself in a corner. He continued to play with it, jingling it happily. He looked around the class, staring at his class mates. Why did they all look so unpleased? He didn't understand. Music was wonderful!

He caught sight of Israfel and waved to him with the hand that was holding the tambourine. It made lots of jingle sounds as he waved, and then he seen Amrita and continued the process of waving and greeting them with jingles. Who else did he know? He looked around excitedly. It was unfortunate though, he didn't see too many others. He did notice there was a ghoul with... no head again. Boy, did the air spirit want to stick his head down her dress. So badly.

"Isn't this class awesome?" He cheered, tapping his hand happily on the tambourine as he practiced. Tappa tappa tappa tappa tappa. He tried to keep a good rhythm with it as he did so. The air spirit didn't know what it was but he felt like moving his body as he did it. Later, he would learn that this was dancing, but for now he didn't know. He just swayed back and forth with his tapping of the tambourine, completely content.

He waited.
And waited.
And then he waited some more.

Yet not once was the professor coming over to give the Siren an instrument. Yet...Nothing. Not even a lowly triangle. After a while, Israfel was feeling a bit neglected. Not even Lucien's tambourine waving could cheer him up, only able to send little more then a soft smile to the ghost.

"Um..professor?"

He was busy. But .
"PROFESSOR, WHAT INSTRUMENT DO I PLAY?"
He let out a small peep. "Jack, I didn't mean it to sound like that I just wasn't sure, everyone else got something I'm just confused is all."

West hung back, watching as a handful of his classmates trudged up to obtain their instruments, the majority of them some degree of pissed off. It was beautiful. Eventually the wrath demon got in line behind Lucien and collected his drums just before Israfel asked where his instrument was. He took a seat fairly close to the closet, unwilling to drag his instrument very far at the moment.
PostPosted: Mon Feb 21, 2011 7:41 pm

"WHAT?!" After having been quiet and nearly invisible, when her name was called, Belladonna jumped up and pretty much yelled. "But I don't want to play the drums..." She whined, though she drug herself toward the teacher and the drum set he had somehow managed to pull from the closet. "And I have to lug this thing around I suppose?" Usually she would have been more polite, especially to a teacher, but there had been 29 other instruments she had picked before the drums. UGH. He did that on purpose, didn't he?! Mumbling to herself the entire time, Belladonna took hold of one side of the drums before she began tugging them across the room toward what had once been her desk. Had someone offered to help her, she might have accepted, but she might have also yelled a number of harsh words at them. So, despite most other times, it was probably best to leave her alone.

And she hadn't even been given cute drumsticks! When she had played in Battle of the Bands even Calder had cattail-shaped drumsticks. In fact, Belladonna really wanted the cat-shaped guitar hidden in her closet. So much in fact she couldn't but wistfully look over at Alwine with her pretty cello and Lizzy with her harp! Oooh, she had really wanted the harp. Deciding now was a good time to pout, Belladonna picked up one of the drum sticks and angrily threw it at the drum. It harmlessly hit the cymbal and bounced off.
"BOO." The witch said before standing up and retrieving the stick. She quickly sat down and crossed her arms over her chest, each hand clutching a drum-stick and pouting at the ceiling as she waited for more instructions.

Amrita had heard her name called, and she was surprised to hear the instrument that was chosen for her. A Cello? Sure it had been high up on her priority list, but at the same time...Cellos were huge, weren't they? Hopefully, they'd have the smaller ones! It would be terrible to have an instrument that was as big or bigger than she was!

When she was actually given the instrument, she...didn't quite know that to do. It was massive! It was like, a giant Cello! It was as big - no, bigger than she was! She gaped for a moment, but it seemed she didn't have the opportunity just yet to ask for something smaller. Luckily it wasn't too heavy at least, and she managed to keep both herself and the instrument upright, though it took a lot of effort on her part.

She managed a thin smile at Lucien, too busy concentrating on NOT losing her balance to wave back, but she did nearly take a spill when Israfel suddenly chirped up.

"M-maybe you're vocals?" She suggested helpfully, frowning at the massive cello in her backwards grasp.
PostPosted: Tue Feb 22, 2011 7:19 am

Christof had wobbled up to his feet once it was time to pick up their instruments, brows furrowed and a look of disappointment in his eyes as he went for the Cello as he was instructed. What... WAS a cello anyway? Oh. A giant violin? Sort of? He supposed. He had no idea how to PLAY it but.... why had the professor ignored his big bold lettering and enthusiastic outlines?? Hopefully his finger/toe situation would not get in the way.

As Amrita nearly stumbled, he reached out to at least steady her instrument that was much larger than her, his own tucked neatly under his arm on his way back to his chair. So it seemed she was stuck with this odd "Cello" thing too, huh?

What were the consequences for murdering your teacher, again?

Rosc took the harp with a grimace. Even if he wasn't already rather pissed, this would have ruined his day. His right hand certainly would be able to function very well with this, not today. Next class it would probably be fine, but he doubted this would be just an intro day. There had been a quiz in Human Studies the first day, after all.
The biggest issue here was that he knew what harps sounded like. No matter what song you played on it, it still sounded ghouly. Sure, you could play something complicated and impress people, but this was... It was...

The demon looked over to the ghoul who'd gotten the cello. Oh for the love of, the thing was bigger than she was! That settled it, the professor was either completely off his head, or a sadistic b*****d.
Upon further consideration, he was probably a bit of both.

((Just so that I'm clear, it's a full size harp, right?))
PostPosted: Tue Feb 22, 2011 8:00 am

(( It can be a full-sized if you want, I allowed another student to use a smaller one I believe? Blue has a magical tickle-trunk, I mean big closet, which has pretty much every instrument existing in it because he's a big collector of musical interest. ))

Professor Blue watched as everyone picked up their instruments, his smile very apparent when most of them seemed unhappy about it. His eyes hadn't stayed on any of them very long though, lingering on Bartholomew long enough to watch him become unable to stand while holding his instrument any longer and slump onto the floor. Oh, he'd certainly picked assigned a suitable instrument for that child. He nodded his head, not really caring where the demon child played the instrument before moving on to handing the instruments out to other students. He put a few questions that had popped up on hold, deciding he'd direct them after he had finished handing out the instruments. He pretty much ignored the one who he had given the tambourine to, deciding that child would have been having playing anything and thus wasn't any fun. After that though, his eyes shot to the question that Israfel asked. He closed his eyes, and almost growled. He was a siren, he would be singing and the demon tapped on his listed with mild deviance appearing in his eyes. Yes, that would work.

"Siren, you will be singing." He said firmly. You will definitely be singing. "Until you get it right."

Between Amrita and Belladonna, his eyes watched the two ghouls. One was having trouble with an instrument so much larger than her, but there wasn't a peep of complaint from her. He approved. He also approved that she looked so much like a child, which caused the demon professor to have some questionable thoughts about his student. The other ghoul just didn't seem to like music. He growled at her.

"You'll like what you get," he paused to look at his sheet for her name, "Belladonna, and one more peep about it and I'll see you after class with the late cat."

A previous question that had been asked seemed like a good time to be brought up, and the demon smiled. He wasn't tormenting them just for fun, although it was fun, he wanted to teach the students that music wasn't just about one instrument you liked. It was a body. His voice was like an instrument of its own, even though he wasn't even singing. "To properly understand music you have to be willing to put aside your judgments and create with any tool, even if you have gotten one you dislike. Music is everywhere and is not, nor will not be, just contained to one body. Now, for many of you I will allow students to move on to another instrument if they choose to after they have shown me they can play the one they have, and no sooner."

The consequences for murdering a teacher was not as bad as a teacher murdering a student, which was all the while probable with Professor Blue. Although murdering a teacher came with the consequence that they will be back. And they will find you. And you do not want that.

And yes, Rosciel, he is a bit of both.

"Now, please practice. I have notify you when I feel you have made enough progress."

(( Now is the time you were all waiting for, it's practice time. With dice! Woo, everyone cheer! It is time for your student to play that god-awful instrument they probably didn't want, and they have to play it good if they ever want to play one they like. So you better try! Blue wants some enthusiasm! He likes his children to be happy beforehand...

This will take place in rounds -- your different posts. Blue is keeping track. If you can succeed then you will be done with the exercise and are free to socialize until everyone else is done. Yes, you still will have to listen to all the horrible, agonizing sounds that will be coming from Israfel and other students.

ROLL 2 6-sided die. To pass Blue's very low expectations of his students, you have to not only make sure the first dice is even, but you have to subtract 6 from the total and it has to be a positive number. If you roll 4-1 then you get 5-6 = -1 and that will not work. 0 is not a positive. It's neutral.

EXAMPLE:

(1-1 = 2) = 2-6 = -4 = FAIL
(5-3 = 7) = 7-6 = 1 HOWEVER 5 is ODD = FAIL
(6-1 = 7) = 7-6 = 1 & 6 is EVEN = PASS

Israfel will receive a -5 to each of his rolls because he's just not good at it. In fact, he's terrible at it and it's part of his character so I want to make sure he has some difficulty. Yes, he will have to keep doing it until he gets it right. Yes, it will hurt. Yes, Blue planned this. Yes, this does mean he has to get 6-6 before Blue will find it acceptable enough and allow him to stop.

PASSING DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE THE BEST EVER AT YOUR INSTRUMENT AND WILL BE ABLE TO PLAY ANOTHER OR THAT ISRAFEL CAN SUDDENLY SING. IT MEANS BLUE SAYS ENOUGH, YOU CAN STOP.

Have fun. This will be the last exercise for this class before homework is assigned and students can leave.

You can double, even triple post if you want but ALL POSTS WILL REQUIRE RP WITH THEM, and feel free to interact and complain while practicing.

IF YOU DO NOT MANAGE TO SUCCEED THIS TASK AFTER A TIME PERIOD (I WILL NOTIFY IN THE MAIN THREAD AND HERE WHEN IT WILL END) THEN YOUR STUDENT WILL HAVE TO SEE BLUE FOR SPECIAL LESSONS.

If you have any other questions, just quote me in main thread out of the guild and I will address them. ))

This was all Gabrian's fault. All Gabrian's fault.

Ren was not entirely certain that he wanted to be in this music class after all. But the nix had been annoyingly persuasive and had somehow managed to get Ren to come along with him, and Ren had figured it would be relativey decent. After all, he liked singing (he was good at singing, thanks in part to his FEAR abilities), so he had thought what the Jack, I'll go. Besides, it would give him a chance to chill with his best friend.

Famous last words. Ren turned his head to cast a pointedly accusing look at Gabrian, hauling the bagpipes into his lap.

"You do realize that this is all your fault, right?" he grumbled, though he wasn't really mad. He took another look at the instrument in his arms and debated throwing it out the widow. However, with an exasperated sigh, he raised one of the pipes to his lips and blew into it.

All that came out was a horrible squelching noise. Oops.

"Like I said, Ren," drawled out the demon as he took a seat and lifted the bagpipes in the air, inspecting them, "It could be worse," the last few words were murmured, the fact he was trying to determine how play the instrument obvious, given how much he was concentrating, "Though I must admit I'm not quite certain how it is expected we play instrument we know nothing about without proper teaching," after all, wasn't that what music class should teach?

He was not particularly against trying out new instruments. In fact, he thrived off of learning how to make new music, however he wasn't sure he liked the fact they had been given instruments they knew nothing about and had been sent to practice them, "I don't even know the basics of how to play this. It's going to be a disaster," he eyed the gryphon beside him as he tried to blow on it and smirked slightly before settling his gaze back on the instrument on his lap.

Given the fact he was particularly stubborn though, he gave it try too. As expected, a rather horrible sound was produced and Gabrian scowled, "I have no idea how to use this. Any bright ideas, bird brain?"

[4 is even, 4 + 4 = 8 - 6 = 2 is positive; Lizzy "passes".]

Taking in a deep breath to help herself relax, Lizzy took a moment to stare down at the small celtic harp currently rested on her lap (or rather, on the chair but between her legs); how long had it been since she played anything other than a guitar or a piano? Of course, he was right in saying that music is to be appreciated no matter the form, but... She couldn't help but frown lightly at her instrument. Hopefully, the Professor would approve of her harp playing - besides, didn't he say that if they did well enough, they would be able to switch to an instrument of their choice?

Brows locked in concentration, she straightened her posture, slender fingers positioned near the strings. Throwing a quick, wistful glance at her guitar case for motivation, she started plucking at the strings.

While she had long forgotten while string correspond to which note, her fingers remembered which strings to pluck to perform something that sounded a little like... Well, a song. Of course, there were several obvious wrong notes here and there - and the sound of each pluck was far from perfect due to lack of practice - but she tried her best, and it was evident from the look on her face.

She was just really desperate to pick up her guitar again.
