"Flying would probably be easier for him," Aydan responded stretching his wings. They were still a little strained after his initial flight, but he was pretty sure they could support him for a little while.
"Well...if you're sure," Sonja said scooping up her new little companion.

"We'll rest as soon as we find somewhere," Velika nodded. "I can scout ahead and try to find a good place..."

"I can do that!" Sonja piped up. "I'm a good scout! Nightstalker and I will check things out!" Before either of the others had a chance to say a word she took off into the sky with the cub clinging to her back...with a grin almost manic enough to match the mare's.
"Nightstalker..." Aydan muttered. "Seems almost like an ill omen. I guess it's just you and me now?" he glanced over at Velika. "I don't think I can keep up with Sonja right now, so if you don't mind a slower pace..."

Velika smiled and shook her head slightly. "I don't mind at all. Do you think she'll be alright, scouting on her own?"

Even with the pain from his leg still throbbing slightly, he chuckled, "Do you think we can stop her now? She shouldn't be getting Too far ahead of us anyways...and now she has her own little guard lion.."
Little did Aydan known, but the presence of the cub really was a positive influence for Sonja. Now instead of rushing off to race the wind, she had to be at least somewhat careful with her flying as she balanced Nightstalker on her back, although the cub seemed very happy to fly right along with her. And right now she was checking on the cub every few seconds while scouting their flight path - at least it was good practice in multitasking?

Velika smiled as she moved a bit closer to him, just in case he needed support. She was careful to be casual about it, least she offend his male pride. She remembered several males from her old herd had hated to feel as if they needed to lean on anyone, least of all a female. "You sound as though you're already coming to accept the cub."

"I didn't have much of a choice with the two of you ganging up on me like that," he said with a half smile. Part of him liked the fact that Velika and Sonja were getting to be fast friends. Sonja certainly could use the positive influence and he would have been in serious trouble today if Velika hadn't been with them. "But with the first n** or scratch, that thing is gone!" he said firmly.
Spying a nice grassy area up ahead that seemed to be near some sort of settlement, Sonja wheeled back around, tiny passenger in tow, and sped back to her friends.

"That is more than fair," Velika nodded. "If the cub just decide to be a problem, then Looks like she's coming back."

"Hey guys!" Sonja called as she got closer. "I found this great place to rest. It's not too far away and near a little village. Should be plenty of soquili around and maybe even a two-legged healer if we need anything else? What do you think?"
Aydan blinked waiting or his hearing to catch up with the speed of Sonja's chatting, "That...actually sounds perfect. We can stay there for a little while." He looked down at his leg and the red slowly seeping through the wrappings, "Well, maybe a little longer than a little while. Think you can handle the break from exploring, Sonja?"
The mare grinned,"You bet! I have to take care of Nightstalker now and she'd probably do better traveling if we let her get a little bigger and older first. How about you, Velika? I'm sure Aydan would feel much better having you there to look after him."

She beamed, happily. "I'd love to stay with both of you! I can look after Aydan while you take care of Nighstalker. Or help both of you. I'm very helpful, really," she chirped. She wouldn't let them regret inviting her to stay.

Aydan smiled weakly and agreed, "That sounds good to me. Let's get to this village. We could all use some down time."
Sonja grinned and noded in agreement, "Come on Stalker, we have to help you get big and strong." She nuzzled the cub, "And one you and Aydan are both feeling better, we'll get back to the important things...like exploring!"

"Not too far," she said leaping into the air, Nightstalker clinging to her back. "Just follow me!"
"Thanks again for all your help, Velika," Aydan said once he'd managed to make it back to the air, even if he could only manage a low altitude.

"It's what a flock does for one another," Velika murmured, smiling at him. She flew close but not so much so that he might feel crowded or that she'd thought he couldn't manage on his own.
