The embrace between Bella, Sky and him made Jack realize just how much he had suppressed to keep Skylar happy and ignorant. He had felt so guilty for doing what he did, but now he felt guilty for not even telling her. Now the idea of going to an unknown place was ringing through everyone’s mouths. The air was thick with tension and lies, Jack couldn’t contain his secret anymore. He had to tell Skylar, he had to tell her what happened. He knew she was going to hate him forever and that would mean that they wouldn’t even stay friends. That would mean that everyone else would hate him, too. He just sighed and began to accept it. Quickly, he grabbed Skylar by the arm.
“I have to talk to you.” He started to lead her to a quiet, more secluded section of the casino. “Privately.”
When he was sure that they were alone and far enough away from the group, he gave Skylar one last hug. It felt like it lasted for an eternity, he squeezed her lovingly and finally let go with a peck on her cheek. He finally let his lips part open and his words just flowed out like a flood.
“I haven’t been loyal to you, but it really was only one night. It was a confusing time. My car had broke down, I needed to call someone for help. Her house just happened to be right there... and she was upset. I tried to console her. I wanted to make everything alright with her. One thing lead to another, I don’t know how it happened, but…” He tried to meet Skylar’s gaze but he just couldn’t. He wasn't sure if he should even use any names, but he felt like he had to be as honest as possible with Skylar. “Bella and I slept together. And now she’s…” He coughed and wasn’t sure if he should say it, but he did. “She’s pregnant.”
He was ready for a slap in the face. He was ready for her to scorn him, hurt him. He wanted her to punish him. He knew he had done wrong and it was eating him from the inside. He couldn’t love more than one woman. He had to pick one. From the looks of things, it seemed he was about to pick Bella. But who knew, maybe Bella was sick of his “zombie face” and wanted to leave him behind, too. Jack sighed and let his head drop with disappointment in himself.

The last t h r e e years were just pretend... ≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎  Skylar was listening to everyone discuss ways in which they had to leave or where to go. She w wasn’t exactly paying all too close attention to what everyone was saying but at the same time she felt like she was engaged in listening. When Jack decided to grab her arm, it surprised her. He said something about needing to talk to her, in private. Confusion crossed her face. What did he need to tell her at this moment that he couldn’t say in front of the others? She decided it was best to not ask any questions and just let Jack do what he wanted.
When they stopped, Skylar gave Jack her full attention. She had to admit that she was curious as to what he would say, what would be so important that he would have to take her aside. She stayed quiet as he spoke. At first, it was out of respect so he could tell her what he needed to without any interruptions. After awhile though, it was because she couldn’t find her voice.
Part of her mind was telling her that this was a dream. This whole day had to be a dream. Too many crazy things were happening, there was no way it could be real life. But there was no waking up from this. All of this was actually happening. Bella had been kidnapped, Alice had almost died…and Jack was admitting to cheating on her. Oh and how could she forget, Bella was carrying Jack’s child. She couldn’t speak. She was silent for a moment as she felt tears start to well up in her eyes.
After what seemed like an eternity, Skylar finally spoke. ”When did this happen?” Her voice cracked slightly when she spoke. She didn’t know why she had asked that question. She knew it had to have been awhile ago if Bella already knew she was pregnant. That meant that Jack and Bella had been hiding this from her for weeks. Jack pretending that he loved her when it wasn’t true. ”Why did you lie to me?” She was referring to the time in the hospital just today when he had said that he loved her. ”Why tell me that you love me when it’s not true? In her opinion, when someone loved another person, they did everything they could not to hurt that person.
Another question had been bothering her. What were Jack’s feelings for Bella? There had to be some there. In a way, Skylar hoped for their to be some feelings and at the same time for there not to be any. At least if he did have feelings for Bella that meant that he didn’t just cheat on her with anyone. ”Do you love her? She paused slightly before continuing. ”Nevermind. I don’t want to know.”
As she stood there, Skylar’s vision once again started to fade in and out. ”Oh god, please not now.” She whispered under her breath. She couldn’t be helpless here with Jack. She had to leave now.”I have to go.” It was all she could say to Jack at the moment. By this time, tears were streaming silently down her cheeks. She turned around and started walking away. Walking didn’t last long. Skylar started running. She just had to get away from all this. She didn’t stop when she passed the rest of her friends.

Jack couldn’t even answer her questions. They were one right after the next. Before he could reach over to touch her, she was gone. She didn’t even stop to tell everyone else. He had caught a glimpse of Bella and Alice as they looked over at him after watching Skylar run away. He couldn’t let them think of him in any bad way. He had to stop the gossip right then and there. He hurried over as they scurried towards the bathroom. Jack accidentally bumped into a few people on the way, but he was lucky to grab Bella as she pushed the door to the women’s rest room open. He pulled her gently away from the door and wrapped his arms around her waist to bury his face into her neck.
He felt like crying, his eyes welled up with tears and he just let them fall against the nape of Bella’s neck. He sighed gently as he whispered in her ear, ”I told her, Bella, I told her everything.” His grip on Bella grew tighter, as if he expected Bella to run away, too. He couldn’t let the one woman in his life left that still had some kind of feelings for him leave him. He knew that while he had Skylar in his life, he was almost obliged to have feelings for her. After so long, he just thought he was supposed to love her. He thought that telling her that would make it real. But for so long, the truth was finally pushing through his brick wall of emotion and ignorance. Now that Skylar hated him, as far as he knew, there was nothing holding his feelings back for Bella.
He finally took the nerve to pull away and he wiped at his dark eyes. He sighed to get rid of the feeling of sobbing. He didn’t want to cry, he couldn’t cry, not in front of Bella, not in front of his friends. If the guys ever found out what he did, he was surely to get his a** kicked, especially by Cailen. He grabbed Bella’s hand and felt his eyes drift to the teddy bear in her arms. He felt his lips curve into a smile.

Feeling Alice in his arms, her hair against his face, her skin against his mouth, and her scent breathing into his system was a vivid dream. A lucid dream he could control and shape with the move of his fingers against Alice’s back. Losing himself for the longest time, blinded by his tears, Adam just felt himself continue to mumble the confession: I love you, over and over in Alice’s ear. For a heartbeat he had believed Alice was dead, and it had been too much for him to bear. Only leaving the bathroom to find some way to blame it on himself to have reason to end his life, seeing Alice there and looking at him had made him question his sanity. Which was to blame for his clumsy fumbling about before running towards Alice and trapping her in his arms. Immovable from his spot, all Adam could do was hold her in his arms. ‘ Cailen can sock me later, I don‘t give a f***.’, the rest, Adam figured might find it in their heart to forgive him. At one point in their life. That was the perk of being deemed a ‘loose lover’, his ‘bad behaviour’ was so used to being seen that he was the most likely person for the ‘infidelity’ to be blamed on. But all those thoughts didn’t have time to cross his mind. All he cared about was holding Alice and clinging to her form. Afraid that she would suddenly disappear and leave him forever.
Feeling Alice’s tender fingers combing through his hair, Adam felt his convulsive, embarrassing, weeping begin to subside. ‘Everything is alright now. You know I’m not the type to go down without a fight.’ Alice’s sweet voice whispered into his ear, and Adam gave a gentle little love-n** on her shoulder with a peck in response. At the moment, he had a great deal of saliva in his throat that prevented him from speaking. Somehow, when Alice said those words, he believed them. Everything would be alright, in the end, things were always alright. ‘ I’m not going anywhere. I’m right here. I won’t leave again. I promise’. If not for a complete lack of wanting to be killed by Cailen or their friends, Adam would have captured her chin in his hands and kissed her. He may have had his hotheaded decisions; but, he knew when to draw the line. After this pathetic display of emotion, giving in and disrespecting the circumstances more was not only cruel…it was stupid.
Hearing Bella and Cailen having an emotional moment of their own, Adam relaxed with the thought that: ‘ See…everyone is releasing stress. Its been a trying day.’ Adam hoped more than believed it was over. For the moment, everything was well, Alice was in his arms, and he had a reason to keep breathing again. Seeing Jack then lead Skylar away raised his eyebrow in curiosity before a gentle tug on Alice’s body forced his eyes to pin a dangerous glare for half a second. ‘ Do you not see that I‘m holding her right now?’, but Adam couldn’t be like that, so he smiled and started to let Alice go. When things were safe, they would have time to hold each other. Until then, he had to relinquish his beloved and pull away. Seeing Bella standing so near to them, he saw Bella’s face completely drained of color and he felt tempted to ask her what was wrong. Letting Bella lead Alice away, Adam realized that it was just him and Cailen…standing next to each other. ‘ Can‘t keep avoiding this.’, Looking up at Bella’s brother, there was an apologetic look on his face.
“ I…I‘m…sorry…I just thought she was dead and freaked out...”, the residue of fluid in his throat corrupted his words, so he simply reached up to scratch the back of his head as he awaited an answer. Pretending to not hear the ‘worry’ in Bella’s voice even though the girls were all so far away. ‘ Please don‘t hate me forever Cailen. But by all means, be mad. Just kill me later.’ Was the look written all over Adam’s face.

Almost as soon as Jack took Skylar aside, Alice felt a tugging on her non-injured arm. It was Bella. Alice could sense by the look on her face that whatever Bella wanted was urgent and couldn't wait. Reluctantly, she stepped away from Adam in order to accompany Bella wherever she wanted to go, which, ended up being the ladies' bathroom. Before Bella had the chance to mention anything, Jack seemed to have appeared out of nowhere. He seemed to want to talk to Bella, so Alice took this as her cue to go quietly into the bathroom to take a look and assess the "damage" Alexis caused.
Staring at her reflection in the mirror, Alice couldn't believe just how horrible she looked. Her hair was an absolute mess, and pieces of it were surely now in Alexis' possession. A red, puffiness took over her face. She wasn't sure if that was from her struggling for her life, or from the fact she'd just been crying. Perhaps it's a bit of both. Then there was her arm, blood still oozing from the site. She could see that the bullet shot at her had only grazed her skin, and not actually gone in, so at least that was a positive thing. It could delay the time she needed before going to a hospital. They needed to get out of that casino now. She reached over towards the paper towel dispenser and grabbed a few sheets before placing them under the tap and turning them on. Might as well clean this up a bit.... The sensation of the water on the wound stung ever so slightly, but she pushed through, knowing it would be a good idea to get the area as clean as she could. If it weren't for them being so crunched for time, she would have went out into the restaurant portion and grab a few 'wet-naps' and clean it up a bit better.
Alice looked up at herself once more in the mirror, this time disgusted at who was looking back at her. "How could you do this to everyone? To Cailen?" Alice realized that she was talking out loud to herself, but it didn't seem to matter. She didn't see anyone else in the bathroom anyway. "How could you hurt him like that? How could you just stand there... holding Adam right in front of Cailen! It's bad enough you broke his heart and ruined his friendship with Adam forever..." Alice noticed tears starting to fall, but that only furthered her anger towards herself. She didn't want to be allowed to cry. She felt that she didn't deserve tears right now. Guilt and self loathing began to overtake her, completely. Beginning to pace around, Alice wasn't sure what to do with herself. She wanted to punch the mirror, slashing open the skin on her knuckles in an aggressive way of taking out her frustration. Of course, she knew she couldn't do that - she would have to explain the wounds that she would regret later anyhow.
"Why... why do I have to be so...horrible?!" she called out, perhaps too loudly. Surely, if Jack and Bella were standing on the other side of the door, they would hear her. She decided to calm herself down. She had to hold back what she was feeling, she couldn't let the others see just how badly she hated herself. More importantly, she knew she had to stay away from Adam when Cailen was around. At least until she had the chance to talk to him about what her feelings really were. That wasn't something she could bring herself to do soon, but she also knew she would have an issue staying away from Adam. Her head began to spin, unsure of what exactly she was going to do. Either way, she was hurting someone. Either way, she was causing herself more guilt and pain. "Dammit!" Alice screamed in pure frustration. After allowing herself to vent some of her feelings, she looked back in the mirror and put on her normal facial expressions again, before grabbing a few more paper towels to have something to continue to pat down the wound and walking out of the bathroom.
"I'm sorry... I'll go if I'm interrupting something...."

Tony had been talking with some big executives, like Harrison instructed him, to make sure they were having a good time and planned on giving the casino a big recommendation. His pocket let out a quiet vibration, he lifted his finger to excuse himself as he pulled out his phone. His eyes widened with surprise as he realized who it was from: Alexis.
From: Alexis
To: Tony
Message: Alice got away. She’s alive.
Meet me out side the casino, we need to talk.
Tony replied quickly with an ‘ok’ before shoving the phone back in his pocket. He excused himself from the executives, pardoned himself for the rude exit and found his way outside. His arms crossed over his chest as he waited. Alexis was quite the looker with glorious talent of a dancer and a mobster. She was brilliant, she was stunning, and she was insane. Tony loved that about her, which was why he did everything he could to stay on her good side. But he also hit on her constantly.
As soon as the taxi cab pulled up and the black haired beauty stepped out, long legs first, Tony’s attention was pulled directly in her attention. She approached him slowly, like a lion stalking its prey. He raised an eyebrow and lifted his hand to wave. ”Hey, beautiful, what’s shakin’?” She rolled her eyes and looked away in disgust. He chuckled, ”What do ya need, sweets?”
”A car, I have a plan.”
Tony nodded and pulled out the car keys, ”Well, I got that. I’m guessing you won’t tell me what this plan is unti-“ She interrupted him with a finger on his lips. He resisted the urge to kiss it. ”Just get in the car.” And so he started to walk, with Alexis at his heel. He unlocked the vehicle and jumped into the driver’s seat. Alexis was already buckled in by the time he opened the door. That was when she opened her mouth to discuss whatever scheme was coming together in her mind. She had his full attention, for multiple reasons, but he tried to only focus on the matter at hand.

 Cailen$Legosi It seemed like everyone agreed that getting out of here was their best bet, but no one put anything into action. Instead, everyone seemed to go off in different directions. He watched Jack take Skylar off somewhere alone and had a feeling he knew what was coming. He recognized the look in Jack’s eyes, it was very similar to what Alice looked like before she told him that she slept with Adam. His heart went out to her as the two went out of site. It wasn’t long after that, that Alice and Bella went off somewhere too. Cailen didn’t want to let them go. He just got them both back, and for them to leave his sight was very painful. He was glad though that he didn’t have to look at the sickening sight of Adam all over Alice. Before he realized that he was left alone with Adam, the guy who gave Alice HIV and basically stole his girlfriend, he felt his phone go off. Knowing that all of his friends were here, he wondered who it was from.
He pulled out his phone to help distract himself from dealing with Adam. Cailen was surprised when he saw the message was from Alice. Then he remembered that Alexis chick must still have her phone. He was nervous as he opened the message to see what it said. What does she want now? His heart sank as he read the message. He knew it wasn’t from Alice, that she didn’t actually say it, but watching the previous scene with her and Adam made it seem like those words were true. Maybe she never said them, but maybe she is thinking it. She seemed different to Cailen, like she didn’t want to be around him. She seemed to get more pleasure from seeing Adam than she did seeing him. She didn’t shake off Adam’s embrace like she did Cailen’s. He missed her just as much as Adam did. He too thought that she was dead, that he’d never see her again. Why was it that Adam was allowed to show his love for her, but Cailen was not? She had to know that he missed her and loved her too. Why did she shrug me off, yet welcome Adam in?
It was true. The message Alexis sent him wasn’t just to try and stir things up, it was true. The truth was standing right in front of him, yet he was too oblivious to see it. He slammed his phone shut, after reading the message for a second time, and shoved it back into his pocket. He could feel the anger building up and couldn’t stop it. How could he be so stupid? It was obvious now that Alice never loved him, at least not the way she did Adam. And here Cailen was risking his neck to save her. He looked up at the man behind it all, Adam. The sorry look on his face didn’t make up for the feelings that Cailen were feeling right now. He listened to what he had to say, but he didn’t care. His apology didn’t matter to him now. He didn’t want to hear it. Right now, all he wanted to do was give Adam another shiner to match the other one. He took some deep breaths to control himself. Making a scene right here wasn’t the smartest idea and he didn’t want to bring any more attention their way. Just then he saw Skylar run off past them with tears in her eyes. Jack must have told her. Not caring where Jack was at the moment, he stared off in the direction where Skylar ran off to. He then turned his attention back to Adam. “Yeah, whatever, man,” he said with venom in his voice. There was a lot more he wanted to say to him right now, but seeing Skylar made him forget what he was going to say.
Adam sure is lucky that Skylar ran by, Cailen thought as he ran off in the direction Skylar just went. He looked around to see where she went and finally found her. She was all alone and crying. He didn’t like seeing her this way. It was wrong and he felt for her. “Skylar? What happened?” he asked stepping closer to her. He had a good idea of what Jack told her, but he wanted to make sure he was right. He looked at her with concern. She looked sad and heartbroken. Not having to care anymore about what it might be interpreted as, Cailen wrapped his arms around Skylar to let her know he was there. “It’s ok. I’m here for you, you can tell me.” He knew what she must be feeling. Having someone you thought love you tell you that they cheated on you is never an easy thing to hear. He couldn’t believe what was happening in their group. For Jack and Skylar, the model couple, to have troubles like this was not a good sign. Things were tearing apart at the seams.

Shortly after arriving at the casino, Alexis had pulled out her phone so that she could get into contact with Tony. While she was in the cab, she hatched up a plan to get back at the group. She didn't want to strike just yet, she had to be patient if she was going to have the desired effect. She wanted to tear them apart, pit them against each other - then, when they weren't a united front, it would be time for Tony and her to strike. She'd already gotten the ball rolling with the texts that she'd sent out, but she'd have to further.
After a quick conversation, she and Tony were seated in his car, and now she needed to reveal her plan to take the group down."You need to somehow gain their trust." She didn't even need to look at his face to see that he thought she had absolutely lost it. But she hadn't; and proceeded to explain exactly what she was getting at. "Just listen. Put the blame on Bella's kidnapping on me. Make me look like the bad person, so they'll trust you. Then, you'll need to tear them apart. Use whatever information you've got, or... make s**t up if you have to, and get them all against each other. Then, phase two can happen."
Alexis purposely left out what exactly "phase two" was, not knowing if Tony would be okay with killing them all or not. But also to add just a touch of mystery to the operation - as she could tell that he was hanging on her every word. "I'm thinking... tell Cailen that Adam is the father of Bella's baby; he probably already hates him for stealing Alice away. Alice seems pretty crazy for Adam, but if we can play off the fact she's facing a death sentence because of him, that might work. I have no idea who knocked up Bella, but you should find that out too. And we'll need some way to turn those other two against each other. It'll work, we just have to put our heads together on it. They'll all ******** pay, I'll make sure of it."

Seeing Alice disappear into the bathroom, Adam was left with only one option. Wait. Whether that included waiting for Cailen’s response or waiting for Alice to get out of the bathroom, Adam could only guess. However, it was just then that he felt his slow-*ss phone beginning to buzz inside his pocket. Pulling it open to flip at the message, Adam’s eyes widened and he felt a strange sort of serendipity bulging in his chest. ‘ Does she really believe this?’, Actually laughing out loud, Adam shook his head and reread the hilarious message:
To: Adam.
From: Alexis.
Message: You shouldn‘t have betrayed me.
Alice will pay for your mistakes.
Adam proceeded to chuckle as he leaned against a four-foot tall decorative pot sporting a fake plant. Biting his lip to keep from smiling, Adam texted a reply back but found his heart changing as he was about to hit the ‘send’ button. As much as Adam wanted to antagonize the crazy woman, if he was as dead serious as she was, then joking or being sarcastic was not the way to smooth over this situation. ‘ She means business…’, Swallowing his saliva as Cailen ran after Skylar, Adam raised an eyebrow and retyped another message:

Unsure of how the crazy woman would handle such news, Adam shoved his phone into his pocket and walked the few feet beside the bathroom to get a drink from the drinking fountain. Close enough to the wall to hear vague noises in the background, Adam was thankful that the physical act of swallowing water limited his hearing. Not that the water stopped him from hearing the angry self-confrontation. Standing beside the bathroom door, Adam leaned in to better hear what was going on.
“--in front of Cailen! Its bad enough you broke his heart and ruined his friendship with Adam forever…” Adam had to keep listening now, she said his name. Hearing Alice pacing around, Adam fought the urge to storm into the bathroom, but he stood his ground. If she saw him come in she might vent her aggression towards him. Thankfully, his cell phone silently vibrated in his pocket and he slipped it out to snap it open and peruse the message: ‘ Adam. Does your talk have anything to do with contracting HIV?’, Adam grimaces and typed a: ‘ Yes’, right back. Regardless of limited bars found within small, cramped, hallways, he did not have to wait long for Harrison to personally send another message: ‘ That’s too bad; but, life happens. I want you to bring Bella to my lake house, I told Bella the address of where it is, and I’m only going to tell you that its not near Vista Lake. When your on the road, call me and I’ll tell you more.’ Harrison was being very reasonable, and Adam could not deny that. Sending a simple thank-you, Adam continued to perk his ears to the conversation inside the bathroom.
“ Why… why do I have to be so…horrible?!”, Adam heard more pacing, and leaned in to press his ear to the door. Her words stabbed into his soul, and he could not keep the painful pool from rising up in his chest. Did she really blame herself so much? Doesn’t she know that it takes two to tango? If anything it was his fault, he knew better than to kiss Alice that night, no matter how upset she was. ‘ I wouldn‘t have if I didn‘t want too…and unfortunately I did, and I didn‘t think about the consequences.’When she got out of the bathroom, when they had a moment alone, he was going to have a serious, but gentle, talk with her.
“Dammit!”, Taking that as his cue to leave, Adam regrettably walked away from the bathroom and away from whatever conversation Bella was having with Jack. His thoughts were too disagreeable at the moment to want to intrude on anyone elses privacy. Instead he waited outside the hallway, hoping to catch Alice on her way out of the bathroom. Hearing her voice after the door squeaked open, Adam had to fight to keep from turning around. Whenever she walked out of the hallway, he would speak to her. When she did, Adam wet his chapped lips and tried to smile.
“ Alice…I ruined my own friendship with Cailen, okay?”, he said those words very quietly, and exhaled a breath as he debated being the one to ask everyone to go to the parking lot.

Before Alexis had the chance to think any further on how she and Tony would pull apart the group, she felt a vibration in her pocket. Unsure if it was from Alice's phone or her own, she took them both out, to find that it was a message intended for her, from Adam.
To: Alexis.
From: Adam.
Message: Hard to betray someone
when they don‘t leave
their phone number. If

I didn‘t know you liked

Deep down Alexis made have known that she wasn't quite right, but she also knew right off the bat that Adam couldn't have meant a word that he said. He was just trying not to upset her so he could protect Alice. At that moment, Alexis forced herself not to get angry enough to tell Tony to turn the car around, find the group and go after them now after that text. Thankfully for them, she was oddly successful in containing her anger. But this text would prove to be useful. She pulled the numbers of Alice's friends out of her phone and put them into her own.

Message: I seem to have Alice's phone.
Does someone want to relay this little msg to her?

Putting her phone away with a grin she couldn't even begin to hide, Alexis turned herself to face Tony. "It's like they make it too easy."

Perhaps tugging on her brother’s hand did not have the expected result; but, Bella was happy to be enfolded in her brother’s arms nonetheless. She even allowed herself to feel particularly happy about it, all things considering. It wasn’t that she blamed her brother for his gambling problem, just that his denial put more than herself in danger this time, and she had wondered if she would be able to look at him without socking him in the face. Standing there unsure of what to do, she disregarded her general distaste of being ‘touchy-feely’ and folded her arms around her brother’s waist to pat his back reassuringly. Being clasped into a hug was one thing; but, when Cailen squeezed her in his arms and began to cry, Bella could do nothing more than return the sentiment, squeeze back, and rub down his back reassuringly. ‘ Oh…Hug time.’
“ Bella you‘re ok.”, His voice was so watery, Bella couldn’t help but feel for him. “ I am so sorry. I‘m sorry for getting you into this mess and I‘m sorry it took so long. It will never happen again. I missed you so much.”, For the longest moment Bella just laid her head on her taller brother’s shoulder in a loving nuzzle. It might have been two minutes, it could have been ten, it all felt the same. However, when the moment was over, her brother began to relinquish control and loosen the hug. Before his eyes looked down at her womb. Remembering their last conversation, the pleasant emotion drained from her face. Stoic, Bella uncomfortably looked down at her belly herself, as if there was something wrong with her stomach in the same manner that a child realized there was something on their face. Looking down at Toby, Bella was about to snuggle the bear to her chest again when she realized her brother was holding something in his hands. Some sort of bag. ‘ What is he holding?’
“ Guys, I think we better go.”
Her brother’s statement ending all thought of asking what the bag was, Bella started to follow her brother out the door when she saw movement in the corner of her eye. Turning aside to see Jack nudging Skylar, both the color and the stoic expression left her face. ‘ Oh no…no no NO! What are you doing Jack?!? Here? Of all times?’, So anxious that she was trembling, Bella felt like she could barely walk as she looked frantically around the casino looking for someplace to disappear into. The second Jack told Skylar the truth they were -all- going to look at her with the ‘I can’t believe you did that!’ stare, and Bella couldn’t handle seeing that at the present time. ‘ I have to warn them, prepare them, maybe say my side before I don‘t have the option.’ And seeing the only other girl she felt comfortable talking to, Bella tugged on Alice’s uninjured arm with a worried expression on her pale face. Her shaking hands making the task of pulling on her clothes very difficult indeed. ‘ Sorry to break up your little moment, but I have to tell you this!’, Not wanting to seem rude, she let Adam take his time to release Alice before pointing towards the women’s restrooms.
“ Al…Alice I need to t…talk to you…”, terribly urgent in her plea, Bella walked as quietly as she could towards the women’s room, but it was not fast enough to avoid seeing Skylar running down the hall with tears running down her cheeks. That was more proof than she needed to know what they had been talking about, and the thought filled her with agony. Peeking her eyes towards Jack, expecting him to follow Skylar, a dread squeezed her stomach when she saw him walking towards her. ‘ Oh no! What are you DOING?!?’ Bella couldn’t keep waiting for Alice, she had to scurry, and scurry quickly. Turning on her heel to avoid the uncomfortable discussion, Bella would have broken into a run if not to make it blatantly obvious that she didn’t want to talk to him. ‘ Come-on feet! Walk faster!’, with almost the same terror she had experienced while being kidnapped, her heart fluttered gleefully the very second her hand touched the door of the ladies room. ‘ Oh thank god!’, but then Jack grabbed her wrist. ‘ Crap..’ Trying to wipe the expression of worried disappointment from her face, Bella awkwardly smiled and turned around as if that would keep her from metaphorically getting a ‘ticket’.
Being pulled gently away from the door, Bella decided it best not to fight with a man that just lost his girlfriend. However, being pulled into yet another embrace left her so surprised that Bella’s eyes widened and she tried to break out of the hold. Gently walking back a step, coincidentally into the wall, was the only thing Bella had been able to achieve. Just hug him…Jack needs a friend right now. As much as she wished she could be free of this moment, Bella knew the reason why. Being entangled in his arms reminded her of what the moment they had shared in the dressing room earlier today. ‘ Gosh, it seems like an eternity since this morning…’, Looking away into the blackness of the hallway, Bella tried to keep from blinking, because every time she blinked she remembered little moments from the mall. At least that was one positive. Thinking about the dressing room cubby had successfully took her mind off of their night together for almost an entire day. ‘ Crap…’, at least, until now. Thinking of any other possible thing to distract herself from Jack’s scent, the warmth of his body, the comfort found in his arms, and…‘ Is he crying?’ Feeling fluid on her neck once more was more than Bella could bear without starting to well up herself. He had cried in the changing rooms too. Biting her lip, Bella tried to think of something to say, to sooth her friend. However, Jack spoke first. Worse than that, he whispered it into her ear.
“ I told her, Bella, I told her everything.”, Jack’s arms squeezed tighter around her waist, and Bella’s voice caught in her throat. ‘ What are you doing Jack? Why are you holding me like this?’, Clamping her eyes shut in pain, a small droplet of water caressed down her cheek in the darkness. ‘ He wanted Skylar…why is he doing this?’, as she kept her eyes closed, images of sitting at the dinner table pushed their way into her mind. More particularly: The end of Jacks text message. Not being a social person, Bella was never a woman prone to being excited over texts; but, she had to admit to herself that while she had been sitting at that dinner table faking conversation, hearing Jack’s ringtone blaring in Tony’s pocket had brought her no greater joy. At least, in so long a time as she could remember feeling elation. ‘Perhaps Cale found enough money!’, had been her only thought at the time. But then she wondered…‘ What if he wrote something about this morning?…’ Blown away that Harrison would let her read that text, time stopped when her eyes ran over the letters. To explain the shattering of everything she had hoped for was more painful than Bella was able to express, only that a part of her died in that moment. Without even the courtesy of being able to grieve. And now, here she was, in another enclosed, private space, and all she could think of was how hurt her friend must feel. The woman he wanted didn’t want to be with him because of what happened, and Bella couldn’t blame her. The thought that the tear on her neck was for her in even the smallest measurement did not even cross her mind.
Feeling Jack beginning to end the embrace, Bella slowly parted the hold out of genuine concern for his wellbeing instead of being courteous like she had while accepting the hold. Seeing Jack wiping at his eyes, Bella took it as a cue to remove the faint residue of water from her own and lifted one shoulder to wipe the right side of her face. If he asked, she would simply say she had been crying over seeing him so upset. For the most part, it was true. Feeling Jack then reach forward and fold his hand around her own, Bella didn’t stop him. In fact, she intertwined their fingers together and cast him a bright little half smile. Smiling and expressing love was easy, when you weren’t risking your heart anymore. Bella only saw a friend needing a friend right now, and that was all the attachment she expressed in the hand-hold. Until Jack’s eyes glanced down the teddy bear she carted along, and she saw his eyes blossom into a smile. ‘ Wait, what?’, Not even hesitating that long, Bella inwardly laughed. ‘ We‘re still having a baby together, he can be excited about that with us being friends. I‘m certainly excited.’, re-smiling, as for a second confusion muddled her face, Bella heard the bathroom door open and saw Alice walk outside into the hallway. ‘ We must be leaving now…’ Smiling with a slight laugh, Bella let go of Jack’s hand to soften her fingers into a pretend fist to lovingly tap his upper arm the way they had since the third grade. It was sweet, and meaningful, but at the same time the action was…detached. Wanting to comfort her friend, Bella leaned in to give him another half-hug.
“ Don‘t worry Jack, everything is going to be okay. You‘ll see.”, Bella smiled and tapped his arm with her pretend fist again before snuggling the bear up against her chest and beginning to walk down the hallway. Thing were gloomy at the moment, Bella couldn’t deny that; but, she had to stay optimistic. If not for the baby’s sake. ‘ Well Toby, do you think I should name him after you?’, getting her first ‘gender premonition’ that women claimed to experience, Bella smiled as she brought the bear up to her neck to feel his fur against her skin. Pressing a little kiss to its raggedly-long fur to show some kind of reassurance. Everything was going to be alright in the end, she had managed this long without a lover so far, she could be fine without one. ‘ Who knows, maybe Skylar would forgive him when all this was over. ’, Wanting Jack to be happy with his choices, she didn’t even stop to consider misunderstanding the text message, and kept walking towards the exit of the tunnel.

The punch on the arm brought him back to realize just how much of his friendships he has potentially ruined. From the looks of things, Cailen was siding on with Skylar and Adam and Alice would probably side on with Bella. He tried to smile back at her, but the way she spoke made his stomach sink. She half-heartedly hugged him, their hands fell apart, and it seemed there was nothing between them other than the baby. But Jack refused to believe that, there was something between them. He was with Skylar for years, since high school, he knew high school relationships didn’t last. He just wondered why he never broke it off before. ‘because she’s your friend, Jack, that’s how you got her into the group, remember?’ His eyes fell to the ground. ’If you broke it off too soon everyone would probably go back to ignoring her like she didn’t matter, you couldn’t do that to her, remember? You had to make sure she had friends, that she had people that cared about her.‘ Jack bit his lip in thought, looked over to Skylar and finally shook off any guilt he had for her. He wasn’t going to obsess over this, he couldn’t. He had bigger things to think about; he had Bella and the baby to think about, he had to keep them safe.
It took him a second to realize that he had officially started to really accept the fact that he was going to become a father. He wasn’t going to abandon Bella like his biological father did to his mother. Sure, he did have two parents but it would have been nice to get know who his real father was once he learned of that fact. Jack was going to be with Bella whether she liked it or not. He loved her, it took him years to finally realize it, and he knew what his priorities were. He had already started to plan out in his head where he was going to apply for a better job, what kind of apartments there were that was a safe neighborhood and enough room for three people. He turned back towards Bella and he grabbed her hand again, he liked it when their fingers were entwined. It felt real, it wasn’t forced, unlike whenever he held Skylar in his arms. He felt like he was supposed to, like any good boyfriend did. He squeezed Bella’s hand gently as he fumbled through his pockets for his car keys.
It was then when his phone went off. The vibrations sent shivers through his inner thigh and crotch area. He had forgotten not to put it there. It just felt odd. He pulled his phone out to flip it open. The text message was from some odd number, but it was a message forwarded from Adam. An eyebrow raised and he held it out for Bella to see. His head turned towards Alice and Adam, but figured after hearing Adam speak that it wasn’t exactly the perfect timing to question him on his motives. At the same time, he couldn’t help but feel like suddenly he didn’t know who Adam was anymore. He knew Adam said stupid stuff to get a rise out of people, but to someone Jack didn’t even know? He couldn’t help but feel like his friend had backstabbed everyone just from that one little text. But Jack had a feeling that if he just confronted Adam, everything would be explained rationally. He just didn’t know how to go about doing that before everyone else jumped down his throat with pitchforks and torches.
”Dude,” he finally decided to get all caught up with Adam. ”You have got to explain this, to all of us.” He held out his phone. ”I have some kind of an idea who this could be from, but… what’s going on?’ It was a stupid question to ask. Obviously there are crazy people in the world that kidnapped Bella and then Alice. And Adam probably got caught up in the mix and said the wrong things to the wrong people. Jack continued to hold his posture, his eyebrow still raised quizzically.

Walking back towards the ‘crowd’ Bella was so preoccupied on the bear that when Jack possessively grabbed her hand a reddish hue overshadowed her face. Being caught off guard meant it was harder to ‘pretend’ nothing was there, so she stopped and turned her head so that her hair fell in front of her face. ‘ Its dark, he didn‘t notice.’, It was then that Jack interlaced their fingers again. The hand hold was suddenly far more intimate than the one she had kindly returned a minute before. Feeling shivers run up her arm from the sensation of his fingers rubbing between her own, Bella bit her lip and closed her eyes for a second. Opening them to watch the casino outside to realize that if they walked out holding hands…everyone would glare and think they were a couple now. ‘ I can‘t let them get the wrong idea…’, at that, Bella smiled kindly towards her friend before softly trying to let go of Jacks hand. Bella tugged once, nothing. Her face contorted in slight confusion before she tried to tug her hand away a second time. ’ Jack…let go of my hand…they‘ll think the wrong idea!’ Just then, a little voice in her chest decided to teasingly, or perhaps cruelly, dabble a little thought in her brain. What if he wants you to think that? Bella’s eyes widened, but she chuckled to seem like she wasn’t worried. Usually it worked. ’ Nonsense, if they just broke up, they still -just- broke up. ’ Bella bit her lip again. But he’s molesting your hand.
Seeing Jack look down and search for his keys inside of his pocket, Bella held back an uncomfortable grimace-like expression of unease. ‘ Does he plan on walking all the way to the car like we‘re conjoined? I mean, what is he doing? He always held hands with Skylar…that…way…’, Bella gulped and heard her phone go off at the exact same time as Jack’s. ‘ That’s odd…is this chain mail?’, Tugging at her hand under the guise of ‘getting her phone’ as a valid excuse to finally break the incriminating hand hold, Bella grabbed her phone from her pocket and flipped it open with a snap. Reading the whole message, Bella snorted a muffled laugh in her throat. ‘ This has to be a joke. Alice is dating Cailen, always has been. ’, Looking over Jack’s shoulder, she realized that he had gotten the exact same message. ‘ This has to be a chain mail message. Everyone has something against Adam. ’Bella proceeded to chuckle as she walked before realizing that Jack looked pretty upset upon reading the text. Following him out of the hallway, Bella stopped beside Jack and smiled her awkward smile at Adam. ‘ Doesn‘t he still have a crush on me?’
“ Dude…”, Bella kept moving her eyes back and forth between Jack and Adam’s faces. “ You have to explain this, to all of us.”, Bella restrained a giggle seeing Jack so adamant that the text message was serious. “ I have some kind of an idea who this could be from, but…what‘s going on?”, Bella had been gone only half a day, how bad could things have gotten around here. Not wanting this to blow out of proportion, Bella bit her lip before leaning forward and tugging at the edge of Jack’s flannel sleeve. Smiling when she got his attention.
“ Jack…Adam isn‘t dating Alice. This has to be joke-mail. ”, She sent Adam a shrewd, teasing, glance. Raising her eyebrow rather accusingly before crossing her arms and snorting another muffled laugh in her throat.

The last t h r e e years were just pretend... ≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎ Skylar tried to wipe some of the tears from her eyes. She had no idea where she was. For all she knew she could be in some bad neighborhood. After leaving the casino she didn’t pay any attention to street signs. She didn’t even know how far or long she went. It didn’t matter in the end. Nothing seemed to matter at all too much. She felt like she lost everything at the moment. Why was it in times of distress did she only think of the bad things in her life? She should be thinking about good things not stuff that would make her more depressed.
She had no idea how long she had been sitting where she was at. It could have been a few seconds or a few hours. Either way, Cailen showed up. Why did he come after her? There was no reason for him to do such a thing. Alice, Bella, and everyone else was back at the casino. She tried to clear her throat and dry her tears enough so the words that would come out would actually be understandable. ”Cailen, what are you doing here? Go back to the casino.” The tears were still falling from her eyes. She just couldn’t seem to get them to stop.
She was expecting Cailen to just leave like she asked. There was no point in him being there anyway. That’s when she felt his arms wrap around her and telling her that everything was going to be alright. It felt so nice to be held like that but it still filled her with sadness. After a few moments, she gently pushed Cailen away from her and stood up. ”Just leave me alone, Cailen. You need to be with Alice, Adam, Bella,…and Jack. I don’t belong with you guys anymore. That much is obvious.” She tried to wipe the tears from her eyes. She hated how weak she felt right now. ”You all have been together your whole lives. I was stupid to think I could be a part of that.” Fighting back the tears, Skylar looked at Cailen and shrugged. ”I’m not a part of it. I can’t be, especially now.” She wouldn’t be able to be around Bella and Jack together. She would just be out of place. No, she just couldn’t do that.

"Alice…I ruined my own friendship with Cailen, okay?"
Alice hadn't even noticed that Adam was standing there, and what's worse was that he had heard what she had said while she was in the bathroom. That wasn't what she intended. At that moment she wanted to disappear; her self-loathing words were only intended for her ears.
"Okay," she replied softly, searching her brain for anything she could use as an excuse to get away from him. Knowing that he had heard her outburst, she couldn't stand the embarrassment of standing there in his presence. "I really should... go check on Cailen." Alice stated simply before she started walking away in the direction of where she believed Cailen to be. Of course, she hadn't gone very far when she heard the sounds of phones buzzing and then the voices of Jack and Bella speaking. She stopped, making sure that they couldn't see she was still in earshot, curious about what was being said.
”You have got to explain this, to all of us.”
Explain what? Is he talking to Bella? Is this about what she was going to tell me? Alice wondered, but decided to continue listening to what they had to say before she jumped to any conclusions of the matter.
”I have some kind of an idea who this could be from, but… what’s going on?"
Alice almost decided that the conversation was probably one that she shouldn't even be listening to anyway and was about to turn away until she heard Bella say her name. "Jack…Adam isn‘t dating Alice. This has to be joke-mail." Alice couldn't figure out what would make her say that comment. What mail were they talking about? It was true, she wasn't dating Adam, but now she was curious just what everyone was talking about. Before she had the chance to have any of her questions answered, she heard Bella urging the group that they needed to leave. She was right, they did need to leave the casino. Alice stepped forward back into the few of her friends. "Yes. We need to get out of here. Now." Alice quickly followed after Bella in the direction of the parking lot, nervously glancing around to see if there were any signs of Alexis. Thankfully, she saw none. But that didn't mean that they didn't need to get moving.
As she waited for them to get going, she couldn't help but notice that there were only two vehicles belonging to her friends in the parking lot. One was Cailen's and one belonged to Jack. They would need to split up into the two vehicles in order to fit everyone. Alice contemplated going with Cailen, and perhaps using the drive to talk with him about her feelings for Adam, but she immediately dismissed that as a bad idea when she caught the image of Cailen holding Skylar out of the corner of her eye. It was obvious that Skylar was greatly upset, but it almost hurt, in the pit of her stomach to see him with her. She knew she had no reason to be any variation of upset, but she couldn't help it. She would keep it to herself, however - especially after the little display that she and Adam had put on.
Which brought her back to the topic of what Jack and Bella were talking about. It had something to do with the question of her dating Adam or not, and it was apparently "a joke". Is that what Adam thinks? Does he think that the possibility of us even getting together... at any point in time... is just a joke? The pain in her stomach grew at the concept of being the latest practical joke. Did that mean that everything he told her was a lie? Did that mean that he only pretended to mean it when he told her he loved her? Alice wanted to vomit, right there on the pavement, but instead she settled for wrapping her arms around her stomach in a display of her discomfort. Now, she wanted to ask all three of them exactly what was going on.
"Bella, I think that you, Jack, Adam and I should ride in Jack's car. Maybe... Adam should drive... since Jack was just in the hospital for his head wound. I'll go tell Cailen and Skylar to follow in his car," Alice phrased her suggestion as more of a polite order, hoping that Bella would not chose to question what she had decided.
Without saying another word, she found the courage to walk over to Cailen and Skylar, to inform them of what was happening so they could all get out of there before it was too late. He was no longer holding her, but it looked like they were having some sort of in-depth conversation, at least coming from Skylar's side. "I'm sorry to... interrupt but we need to leave. Now. Alexis is definitely going to be looking for us. You two take Cailen's car. Follow the rest of us." She forced the words out and then immediately made her way back to where Bella was standing, not wanting to look at the scene of Cailen and Skylar together any longer than she had to.
