[[ Oceanside ]]
Whatever he was expecting, a terrified scream was certainly not it. Varun froze on the spot, bright green eyes like saucers as his wings and fins snapped open to their fullest. He seemed to be vibrating as he glanced around wildly, trying to figure out what exactly made Melisande shriek like that. No one was near by, and he was only wet, and-
The Leviathan roared suddenly, a loud, terrible nose, and shook his hand violently. The crab sailed through the air, landing in the ocean with a ‘plop’ and disappearing safely to the sandy bottom. Snapping his jaw shut, he held his finger out, bleeding and swollen where the crab had nipped him while he wasn’t paying attention. No wonder the muse had screamed when he picked it up. Suddenly realizing what a display he just put on, Varun cleared his throat and puffed his chest as he folded his wings quietly, trying to play the entire situation very coolly.
“It bit me,” he explained, trying to hold his head high as he wrung his red hair out. “Clawshell, bad for the shell games.
Fortunately, there was something else right near the swirling end of his ribbon. Hovering low, Varun gave it an experimental poke before digging the shell out of the sand and dipping it in the waves to clean it off. He rumbled deep in his chest when it began to shimmer, quickly floating over to his partner to offer her the shell. “It is like your first one,” he reasoned. “I think you should have it.”

[[Oceanside (Rivener) // BBQ stand (Aphismet)]]
Rivener knew the girl had gotten the idea when she floated off with all six eyes down, searching through the sand. She ventured nearer the water and Riv snickered: she could take that part of their little plot of sand, then. He'd certainly not be going anywhere near the stuff. The Sigel bowed low again to search for something, hopefully more lovely than a crab shell this time.
It took a while, Rivener shoving his hand into the warm soil to dig up a few more stray crab bits (pieces of leg and a half-cracked claw), discarding there with a frown. They must have picked the worst spot for seashell finding or something. Broken glass, a cigarette butt... Ah, there! The sunlight barely reflected off something white and smooth, only the smallest edge sticking out of the sandy ground! Excited that he'd found something, Rivener grinned and bowed low, brushing some of the sand out of the way and grabbing the white edge with clawed fingers, pulling out-...
...a piece of driftwood. It was about the size of his palm, shaped like a small explosion, white as bone and just as smooth. "Grah, what the fu-..." Gritting his teeth to keep the words in lest his Frei partner hear them, Riv chucked the interesting piece of wood into his pail.
Anya returned with a piece of bright pink paper, doused with seawater, draping it over the edge of the pail and looking none too impressed with it. Riv blinked. "Err..." He glanced up to say something, but one look at that disinterested face made him change his mind. He smiled instead. "Very nice. Pink! I'm sure it'll be lovely when it dries. Let's keep looking, okay?"
Ohboy. This wasn't going well at all so far.
Aphismet chuckled at Ebony, shaking his head. "I think we're ALL going to be more than a little sun-drunk at the end of this thing!" The Brit went off on two or three different topics then, showing off her "sun-intoxication" and drawing an amused laugh from the white-haired man. He raised a hand in defense, "Slow down! Wow, let me answer a few of these before you bowl me over with questions! Let's see. I know Yuurei's brother, Ty, right? What'd you do to piss him off? As for the family, yeah we're all here. Alex is over there, being all hot in her bikini, and Isi's being grumpy somewhere on the beach by now, no doubt. I bet he found a seat in the shade and refuses to leave it. Zul's somewhere collecting shells I think? That's where Riv is, too, on the beach over there. Eiry's right over here," he pointed to where the shakespearean Sigel was currently spouting prose-speak to Kyou, "and that pretty much accounts for every Delaran present. Glad you like the kebabs, too!" The chef puffed with bashful pride, grinning.

(( Shoreline - Seashell 3/6: fly-specked cerith // Drinks booth - Eiry ))
Lazarus chuckled heartily as Cordelia dug out another wentletrap from the same spot. "They are a pair!" He exclaimed, admiring the two shells. What were the chances of having two wentletraps buried in or around the same spot? "Here, you can have it." He said as he placed the shell into the Frei's bucket. "Keep them together." He figured that, since they were found together, he doesn't want to separate them. Besides, Lazarus's bucket already has a piece of paper and a pretty stone, he don't want Cordelia to be left out with an empty bucket.
Lowering his gaze once more, he looked at the spot where they found the wentletraps, the waves had already filled it partially up with water and Lazarus doesn't see anything of interest there. So slowly he started moving forwards with his eyes scouting the sand.
A peculiar lump of sand bulging out on the beach caught his interest. It was a little ways up from the receding waters and had become somewhat dry under the hot sun. Bending low, he parted the sand carefully with one finger, wary that it may be a living crab or something. But what poked out was not something alive as he touched the solid surface. Carefully he pulled the shell from the sands and examined the fly-specked cerith. It was cone-shaped, much like the wentletrap they found earlier. But it was not as elegant, a golden brown color with white specks and rough bumps, not as big as well. Still, it is a nice find. "I found another one!" Happily he exclaimed to Cordelia, showing her the seashell. Their luck is finally picking up.
Although strange in this day and age, Kyou always enjoyed Eiry's theatrical way of speech, it just adds that flare of drama and romance to every word. "You can still sign up for the paintball and sand castle events, it's over there at the popsicle booth." Chuckling, he pointed in the direction of Zeke's booth, where a piece of paper attached to a string can be seen, now looking quite forlorn since most people had already signed up. "I think Lazarus had signed up for the paintball contest too, although I'm not sure if he did with sand castle."

((Oceanside 3/6))
Heart pounding in her chest, Melisande winced as her partner roared. Her eyes squeezed shut, tears welling and streaking down her sunburned cheeks. Clutching her hands against her chest, bucket dropped forgotten on the sand, Pasha took short and shallow breaths until she forced her eyes to open.
The horrible creature was sailing back into the water, and thankfully, out of sight. It didn't take her long to notice Varun's injury though. That must have been why he roared! Dropping her eyes for a moment, Melisande realized her bucket had spilled when she dropped it. She scooped the shells back into it, not even noticing as she added an extra clam shell that hadn't been in her bucket before. Starting a bit at Varun's voice, she looked slowly from his brave face to the shell he held out to her.
"For...me? I think...all the shells can be ours. We can keep them in the s-same bucket."
The Sigel relaxed just a tiny bit, and floated towards him, cheeks still wet. Her heart was finally slowing, but she couldn't help but notice his wounded finger, still red and swollen. "D-does it hurt?" Meli swallowed, and tried to find a stronger voice. She sounded more positive when she spoke again, trying hard for his sake.
"Would you like me to kiss it better?"

[[ Oceanside 3/6 ]]
Ours? What a strange concept.
Varun was so busy mulling the thought over and gently placing the shining shell into Melisande’s bucket, he almost missed her second offer. He was about to vehemently deny anything hurting, despite the obvious redness of his finger, when the muse offered to kiss the wound and make it better. The Leviathan paused, head fins twitching as they splayed outwards just so. Kiss it better? “You can do that?” he asked, voice all wonder and no haughty denial. Females certainly could do amazing things!
To be honest, he wasn’t really sure how to respond. The redhead certainly did not want to take advantage of the shy Sigel, but, wouldn’t it be rude to decline the offer? He’d already scared her with the crab, something the Frei would be kicking himself over later, he really did not want to offend her by denying her offers, as well. Shrugging, and unaware how much confusion he was actually displaying, he held out his hand and ducked his head. “If you want to.” If he was blushing, Varun would later insist it was just the sun on his pale cheeks.
Once the problem of his crab-related injury was taken care of, the seasonal Raevan returned to his task dutiful, noticing something black sticking out from the waves. He made a beeline (though not without steal a glance at Melisande over his shoulder, feeling a growing need to protect this particular female). However, when he grabbed the object, it felt very strange! Slimy, and sort of rubbery, and not like a shell at all! When he tugged, the piece of shoe came loose, and he held it up high, sea sludge dripping off. Varun wrinkled his nose and held it as far away from himself as possible.
“Melisande!” he called over the crush of the waves. “Do you know what this is? I do not think it is a shell…”

((Lucia=seashell roll 3))
The kitten let out an exasperated sigh and her ears flattened backwards. All of that work. And the wetness. For a stupid piece of paper. Trash someone carelessly tossed aside. Balling the wet paper up into a tight wad, she threw it in the bucket creating a large spitball. Letting out another sigh, Lucia’s eyes kept scanning the ground.
When Iorek called out that he had found something, her head whipped around and she tried to look at his find. When he called out, never mind, she breathed out another frustrated sigh. They only had one shell so far! She didn’t even see what her partner had found. It was gone before she had a chance. Did he throw it aside?
Iorek ventured a little closer to her, and Lucia decided to take a chance. ”Iorek! I have an idea. What if we dig through the top layer of sand a bit? I mean – we’re just looking across the top of the sand, hoping something is poking out. If we dig, I bet we’ll find something!”
Her eyes turned downward. She was floating over a nice sized mound of sand. Leaning down, floating as if she was squatting, Lucia began digging gingerly. She would gently brush her fingers across the sand, clearing away piles.
Finally, she felt something hard against her hand. Grabbing it, she pulled it up to look at it.

((Roll 2/6 - Abalone Shell Oceanside - Anastacia))
Pretty? It was trash! Clearly brains did not come with age with some Raevans. Either way though, she hung the damp, folded item over the rim and looked within the pail to see what else Rivener had found. Something white and smooth; likely an odd stone or something. Not appealing, but not all that ugly like the empty shell next to it. Would they win with this? With the paper in there too she was doubting but with that stubborn side in effect she wasn't going to let that happen. No more pop-ups.
Once the paper was set and Rivener went back to digging, Anastacia flicked back out over the sand. She didn't go too far from her partner - the beach was crawling with others of course - but she didn't have to. The sun beat down on the sand and ricocheted off something half-jutting out of the wet sand nearby. She saw there was a pair close to that shiny thing, so before they could even see it she had swooped down and nabbed it. She made a face at the feel of the wet sand in her palms and moved to the bubbling foam to dip her hands and the shell-covered something into it. The pull of the water almost wrenched it from her fingers, but she was able to keep it in hand. Once it was clean - and her hands cooled down as well from the sun beating - she pulled the hard treasure out of the water and examined it.
A piece of abalone shell was her treasure and quite the treasure it was! While its topside was a dull, unappealing black, flipping it over a bright swirl of several colors all over the bottom greeted her. Purples, blues, whites, even hints of pale greens, yellows, and pinks were within and even though the shell was clearly broken (its thicker end rose up and became nothing more than a jagged edge missing what was likely half of itself) it was better than anything else found so far. Some holes dotted it as well, but regardless, this was most definitely something worth keeping. A treasure, and even though she was teamed with the Scorpion, once this was all over this would be the thing she would keep. Rivener could have the paper and whatever else they found as long as she got this thing.
Clutching it in one hand, she carried it over to where Rivener was still digging around and, carefully watching him, plunked it down into the bucket.
"Found something." The black side was facing out to the Sigel and she pointed at it, inward pride raising again despite the paper still staring at her from the rim. One folly, one hit and she'd make sure to go back to the spot where she found that bit. The sand turned up nothing, as did the water, but the middle ground was the place to be.

((Entrance, heading towards the popsicle booth))
"Vile.Tastes like not good. Warm, hot, but not perfect" came the venomous voice of the young crimson haired Frei. Prajna tossed its head roughly to the side, moving its jagged bangs to the left and out of its line of sight, as it angrily slammed the car door close. "It is a little bright today, but you'll be okay Prajna. Just remember to put sunscreen on otherwise your skin will sting later," Namini cooed as she locked the driver's side and followed after her wandering charge. The brunette had her playful curls pulled back into a small poodle-ish ponytail and was wearing a periwinkle sundress over a simple white bikini while her Frei seemed to be dawning some flashier apparel. As Prajna led the way towards the crowd and noise that was the Lab's summer event, curiosity guiding the Frei itself, Namini's sapphire gaze flickered up and down the half-torso.
How had it managed to convince her to let it out of the apartment like that? Prajna's hair was cute, she had to admit, as she watched the Frei toss its bangs out of the way again, two semi-composed buns bouncing a bit from the violent motion. But... Namini's eyes trailed downwards. Prajna was wearing what looked to be like a black, sleeveless turtleneck made out of the same material as bathing suits. It was skin tight and right in the center, following a downwards split in the collar was a cut out star, exposing some of the Frei's delicate collarbone. While one could say the overall look still came across androgynous, it was impossible to denial how scandalous the outfit remained. Namini let out a small sigh as Prajna turned and shot the girl a nasty look.
"Walk much? Prajna has no legs and yet still more fast than Namini. Quick quick! Before gets mad.." the Star hissed as it approached a colorful booth. It raised a curious brow and tried to understand the words displayed on the overhead board. Popsicle?

(( Oceanside - Roll 2/6 - Live Crab ))
Noticing the motion of his partner - just barely - the demon looked at Xiu for a few more moments with an expression somewhere between curiosity and a touch of irritation. Logically, Zul knew there had to be a reason the Sigel wasn't speaking to him; it could have been that he'd offended the white male, or even that Xiu's dislike was extending beyond that point in their lives that they'd last met. The Frei tilted his chin to the side with a soft 'tsk!' sound, floating after the Pi Yao in silence. It wasn't like he cared. He could just as easily do this in silence, and perhaps for the better! What could they possibly have to talk about--
A scream abruptly stopped his movement, making him spin around to face the bulk of the Raevans with alert, stern eyes. The fire in his blood surged, able to taste the heated rock on the back of his tongue like a memory. Rattling his bone wings, he was prompted to float towards the group at the roar that followed - though he knew that sound. Zul tensed and prepared for a fight, the bucket in his hand falling with a soft sound into the sand. Varun and - Melisande! The Muse was his partner! He uttered a low, guttural sound that could have been a growl, disbelief encroaching on him as he noted that not a single Raevan or person had responded to the two calls of danger. Anger burned in his chest, the edges of his eyes beginning to bleed in liquid black...
...but then he saw the two, who then began to converse over something on Varun. The demon felt winded, then, his power receding and leaving him drained. It was probably just...just a simple reaction to something new. Zul ran his hand over his face, unable to shake the darkness that lingered in his mind. The whole point of the party was to have fun and relax...so why couldn't he? Drawing a deep breath of salty air, Zul turned back towards Xiu and half-heartedly retrieved his bucket, expression drawn in absence of a smile. So much had happened in a year - the memory of battle still clung to him and made him anxious. How could he be expected to just shed off that experience?
Either by irony or by lesson, Zul paused when he saw something moving in the sand. Shells weren't supposed to move, but then again, there was little that dwelled in the sand that was supposed to move! The demon frowned, lowering himself to observe the third crab to make its appearance known, fingers extending to touch the vibrantly red shell. It felt rough, slick with the remnants of ocean clinging to it mingled with the sand. The crab wasn't terribly fond of being touched, however, as one pincer raised and clamped on the Frei's glove.
Slowly, Zul righted himself and looked at the crab that was now dangling from his glove. "You picked a bad day," he informed the sea-life with a frown, jerking his hand so that the crab was helplessly thrown up towards his fingers, which clasped easily around the shell. The moment the pincer released his thick glove, the unfortunate creature was hurled out towards the ocean without so much as a glance. The plop of the crab being forcefully returned to its home was muted against the sigh of cresting wave. Repeating the words fun and relax in his head like a mantra, the demon rejoined the Pi Yao, no better off than he'd started.

What an odd thing! Rivener hadn't even intending to pick it up if it wasn't a shell, but with a tilt of his head the Scorpion gave in to curiosity. He plucked the strange, root-like contraption out of the sand he'd been digging through, one eyebrow raised. What the heck was this? Having never seen a sea fan before, Rivener couldn't really figure out how this might have come to be here. Looked like the dead part of a tree... Figuring it might be something Eiry might like to snack on later, Riv shrugged a shoulder and dropped the fan into his pail.
Just at that moment, Anya returned with a piece of actual shell! She dropped it into the bucket and looked mighty proud, so of course Rivener peered in, picking up the dull black shell and turning it over-
"Ohh, wow! Nice work Anya! This is more like it!" He grinned, excited on her behalf. "Let's try and look for more pieces, this one probably broke off nearby!" Putting the shell back in the bucket, Rivener followed Anya to her patch of middle-ground sand, giving her an arm's breadth of space before hunkering down to search out shells of his own. So far, he hadn't been all that good at this.

Determined, Rivener set to work shoving his hands into the wet ground, forcing back a shiver at how cold and uncomfortable it felt. This wouldn't take long, he told himself: just a bit more, and then he could go sun himself until he was warm and cozy again.
A scream from nearby, quickly followed by a roar, drew Riv's eyes... Melisande and Varun? The two had been teamed for this treasure hunt, hadn't they? Weren't they getting alo-... oh. A crab was sent sailing through the air after Varun did a little flailing dance, and the Scorpion snickered. Meli was scared of crabs? And Varun got bit? Both facts brought a small smirk of amusement to Riv's lips, and he leaned down to go back to his own search. No one was in any danger.
Ah! Lowering his head, Riv's eye caught the glint of the sun off something sparkly... There, in the sand, a small bit of pearly color barely seen! Riv reached down and yanked the shell free, finding a pristine mussel shell! With a big grin, finally proud of locating something that looked like a proper prize, he showed it off to Anya for a moment before dropping it in their bucket. Maybe his luck was turning up? Eagerly he set his eyes back to work on the same sandy area, hoping to hit paydirt again.

((Delia=Seashells (Roll 4/6 – Clam Shell) // Ebs=Drink Booth))
The basilisk smiled fondly at the pair of shells laying at the bottom of her bucket now. They were two of a kind, partners whom weren’t exactly alike, but similar nonetheless. It reminded her a lot of herself and the fire Sigel currently investigating another batch of sand for shells. There were so many differences to them such as gender, age, coloring, even temperature. Yet even with all that Cordelia felt this undeniable tug of familiarity with the demon, like twins separated at birth, and it gave her a great sense of ease to be around him, much like it felt being around Zul.
Swinging her bucket with childish cheer, Delia followed after Lazarus, her smoky orbs scanning the land carefully. She hadn’t seen him stop to pick up something and thus had to make a very abrupt stop to keep from ramming into him. Examining the shell he held out to her, “Oooo! It kinda looks like a snake when it’s all wrapped in itself.” She giggled at her analogy before something else caught her eye.
Pushing the sandy grains away as fast as possible, Cordelia picked up the white clam shell. Lightly the snake ran her fingers across its ridged surface before flipping it over to examine the other side. When she did, the sun hit it just right and the inner sanctum of the shell dazzled with a rainbow of colors. “Wow…” she breathed before showing it to her partner. “I think I found another one Laz. It’s a lot different from the others though, what do you think?”
“Opps, sorry.” She chuckled, her sun-kissed cheeks showing a touch of rose in them as she nodded her silent agreement. When Aphi mentioned Ty, the Brit just rolled her eyes, but did not interrupt as he continued. She’d answer it soon enough…maybe.
When the man went to point out each individual of his family, Ebony shaded her eyes to see if she could pick them out from the rest of the crowd. She was able to easily spot Alex by the petting zoo and gave the Italian a friendly wave in greeting. Isi she couldn’t find, yet truth be told Ebony most likely wasn’t looking hard enough for the all too serious youth. The scorpion wasn’t hard to miss along the shore being as tall as he was, yet she had to wonder whom that purple haired Raevan with him was. Ebony hadn’t seen her before so maybe she was new? Further along she thought she could just make out that speck of tri-horned flame and crème hair. Hmm, now who was that white Raevan with him?
The ghostly green member of their family though had totally taken her by surprise, yet not in the manner he normally did. Mouth popping wide open, the woman exclaimed, “That’s Eirdirsceol?! You didn’t tell me he grew!” Ebony covered her mouth and backed tracked a little mentally as she continued to stare, completely shocked by the dramatic change in the Raevan’s looks. Uncovering her mouth just a bit, the femme muttered in a lower, less shocked voice. “Or…maybe you did and I simply didn’t hear or forgot. My apologizes for the outburst everyone.” Maybe she really did need to take a break from the sun, it was as Aphismet said, making her daffy.

Rivener didn't need to search very long to find his next treasure: a stray wave pushed up to rinse the sand from where both Raevans were seeking, and in the retreating waves Riv spotted something colorful, tumbling back into the sea. Hurrying, the Scorpion snapped a hand out as fast as a stinger, nabbing the shell before it escaped.
His eyes widened, his grin turned into a happy beaming smile. "Hey Anya, look! I found another piece of that shell you got earlier!" He let her pick up the piece from him, trusting that she'd put it in the bucket when she was done admiring. Maybe there really WERE other pieces of that shell here... They'd have to scour really carefully! Humming to himself, glad with his progress, Riv lowered back to the sand and continued looking, expanding his search zone a little closer to the water. That seemed to be the trick here. He'd just be careful not to dip into the waves too much, that's all!

Rivener's search yielded a wonderful treasure this time! Letting out a triumphant laugh, Riv reached into the frigid (well, frigid to HIM) sea water, fishing out something else he'd seen rolling about in the surf. White, pristine, perfect, Rivener brandished his new-found prize: a wentletrap! Its cute, perfect little coils looked like an ice cream cone's, and Rivener couldn't have been more pleased. He grinned widely, zipping out of the way as a wave tried to sneak up on him. THIS was the one HE would keep when this was over. Maybe Zul would like this-...
Ruby eyes sought out the Demon-Frei, finding him further down the beach with Xiu. Ah, they were teamed for seashell finding, hm? Riv's smile dimmed a bit, the buzz of his earlier vodka shots dissolving quick in the fast-metabolism body. ...He kind of wished he'd been paired with Zul. They they might have talked a bit. Riv didn't want to spend the rest of the day apart from his beloved, but he couldn't just go back and pretend nothing had happened either... And ack, Zul looked like he was in a horrible mood now. Rivener frowned in concern. That's not because of ME, is it?
With a sigh, resolving to go and see the demon after this little contest was over, Riv put his wentletrap in the bucket and peered over at Anya. "Found anything new?" he prodded, keeping an eye on her.

((Oceanside 4/6)) Pasha nodded brightly, genuinely glad she could help ease his pain. Her faith was inspiring, and as her lips touched the tip of Varun's finger, the hurt suddenly seemed a little more bearable. "It will be better in no time~" She said with shy assurance, meeting his eyes for a moment with a tiny smile. Her heart had slowed back down, and the Muse was feeling good again...but she avoided looking towards the waves where the scary crab had vanished. Instead, she focused on the object Varun held out to her, wrinkling her nose the slightest bit. The expression looked cute, though the Sigel didn't know it. "I don't think it's a shell..." She ventured, tilting her head. A curl, wet with sea spray, stuck to her pink cheek. "It looks like something that used to live in a shell! You can put it in the bucket, though!"Obligingly, she held the bucket out to Varun, and watched him drop it inside. Seeing the squicky piece of shoe plop down amid the pretty shells made her feel a little woozy, so she decided to hold the bucket at arms length and continue her search farther away from the water. For several minutes, she brushed her fingers lightly through the sand before touching something textured and strange. Pasha fished it out gingerly, cautious of claws or slime. The shell had neither! "Varun, another one!" Her sweet voice was high with excitement, and she held the shell up for him to see. It was ridged like the ruffles on her old dress, and such a lovely color that Melisande couldn't help but think it would make a lovely piece of jewelry. "What kind of creature lived inside it, do you think? I bet it was a cute one."
