Lin nodded, "Last time was a bit confusing, excepting extreme formality to be used, when we weren't expected to, or we were just allowed not to."
Really, she was pretty certain had they not had news of his daughter, they might have been treated much differently.
"Ada," Miyuki pipped up because she was tired of watching the men who never moved, "Where are we going?"
She hadn't been paying attention to the adult conversation. She didn't know these people, didn't understand what they were so serious about and didn't understand their big words.

Earendil chuckled at Miyuki and squeezed her hand. "Just going to my study again," he told her, nodding at the door they were approaching. "We have to plan things to get ready for our trip, so that tomorrow when we wake up, we can leave."
It made him feel good inside to hear her call him ada, and it was tempting for him to call her a'sum in return: the elvish word for daughter.
He let go of Miyuki's hand. "Why don't you go on and see if Uncle Shea and Uncle Mikhail are in there already?" he grinned.

Miyuki brighten at the idea of being given something to do. Her hand slipped out of his as she ran off to go see for herself.
"Okay!"
She hurried to peek in to see for herself.

Earendil chuckled as Miyuki ran off. "So obedient," he grinned down at Lin. "Lucky for us."
He pulled Lin closer and gave her a quick hug, then leaned over and kissed her on top of her hair ever so lightly before letting her go again.
Shea and Mikhail were indeed in Earendil's study. Shea was sitting in Earendil's chair, and Mikhail was looking over his shoulder at some plans that they had drawn up. They looked up as Miyuki ran into the room, and both of them smiled.
"Well, well," Mikhail chuckled. "Welcome back."

Lin smiled widely, it felt so good that she understood now why her mother was so touchy feely (more so than usual) around her father.
"She's excited, and you're giving her something to do."
"Hi hi!" Miyuki waved at the two men, "Ada said to see if you were back again."

Earendil grinned, glad Lin hadn't thought he was being too forward.
"Now let's just hope that we can keep her occupied on the trip," he chuckled as they entered the study.
"Ah," Mikhail smiled, "and there he is. So. Things are settled now?"
Earendil grinned at his uncle. "Yes. All settled. We leave tomorrow! But we're going to have to take a cart or something, Lin hasn't ridden in a very long time, and Miyuki never has."

"Ride?" Miyuki understood that much.
She understood ride a car, and piggyback ride, she wondered what sort of ride this would be.
"That's right, we're going to ride a cart," Lin told Miyuki, "And... eventually I'll have to teach you to ride a horse."
And she was going to need to build up her endurance again for horseback riding. At the moment now wouldn't be a good time, not when they were going to an island that didn't have any horses anyways.

"Perhaps we could make another visit to the Borderlands in the future," Earendil suggested with a smile. "It was such a great visit the last time ... and who knows how long it will be before we're back here, a lot could have changed since then."
"There are horses here that you could learn with," Shea added. "Unicorns too, if they'll have you."

Lin had never seen a unicorn of this world, Triton had once mention they were very different from unicorns familiar to Gaia. At least they weren't like certain Kirins.
"Thanks, I'll keep that in mind, but it'll have to be until after this trip. There are no horses on that island, so... the skill is going to be out of use there anyways."
At least, Miyuki should get use to the feel of riding a horse at her age, Lin knew that much at least.

Shea nodded. "Earendil tells us there are no horses on the island," he added. "We might talk to Arwen and Roydon about taking some on the ship, though I'm not sure how horses fare on the ocean."
"We'll keep that in mind," Earendil nodded. "See what they say then."
Though he wasn't sure how much free time he would have there: he was supposed to be helping Aerin with ruling the kingdom after all.

"I don't know..." Lin murmured thoughtfully.
Taking horses as they ate a lot would be a lot of hassle, and besides that as it had been expressed the island technically didn't need horses.
"But, we'll see."
"What are horses?"
Miyuki who had seen all manner of odd and whimsical creatures hadn't seen anything as normal as say a horse.

Shea laughed. "That settles it!" he grinned. "Earendil, before the day is out, you have to take her to see the stables."
Mikhail smiled and nodded agreement. "Though it sure would be nice if we could take some horses with us," he added. "If we're going to be overlooking the construction of an entire city, we need to be able to get from one area to another very quickly ..."
"We'll see what Arwen says," Shea reminded his brother. "At any rate, Earendil, you should take Lin and Miyuki to the stable. We'll start packing your study for you."
"Just make sure you use my runed bag," Earendil nodded. He turned to Lin. "Would you like to see the stable?" he asked her. "I don't believe you've been there before, and it will be good for Miyuki."

Lin had to think about it, if she recalled correctly the horses had been taken out for them, so there had been no need to go to the stables.
"No... no I think I haven't," Lin murmured, "What to see the horses?"
This question had the same tone as... do you want to see the kitty? Do you want to see the doggy? Do you want to see the great huge winged creature that came from dust?
"Okay! Let's go see horses!"

Earendil chuckled. "Then off we go," he grinned. He turned to his uncles. "Thanks again," he grinned. "See you soon."
He turned to Miyuki. "Would you like to ride on my back?" he asked her with a grin.

"Yea!"
Miyuki was nearly jumping up and down for joy, hopping around her ada with excitement. Rides were fun! Best of all she got to see so many things she couldn't see while being on the ground.
"Magic words..."
