There was a long, startled pause from Caroline. "Y-You're not dead?" She asked incredulously. She sneezed again, and there was another spurt of fire. She had to leave NOW... otherwise the place would get crisped by her dragon fire.
Caroline stood up and edged toward the door, trying not to trip over anything in her blurred vision.

Miriam huffed when she saw another gout of fire come from the girl's nose. Good thing she was low to the ground. She's been burnt enough today. "No, I'm not dead. I'm an alraune. Demon-plant. Plant-person. Whatever the hell you want to call me. As long as I'm connected to the ground, I won't die. Now get the hell out of my class with all that fire before you burn something else down!"

Caroline slunk out the classroom, completely ashamed and utterly humiliated - the other girls were shrieking and whispering, and she had gotten into trouble - assaulted a teacher - on her first day at a new school. This was why she hated new school.
She looked up at that sky. If she were as strong as her brother, she could make the clouds go away, and the sun come out. That would surely help Miss Rose feel better, right? But as she was right now, Caroline couldn't cast much of anything.
Caroline was facing up when she sneezed again, a small tower of fire shooting up a few feet, and a could of black smoke slowly rising upward.
"Stupid allergies..."

Heaven91 Akira smiled back, glad that Ever took the idea so well and was actually willing to teach her! Besides, it would be really fun to meditate with her best friend! "Sounds good! Thanks a tone in advance, Ever! And actually, Sensei kept saying exactly that, well more like 'forget your demonic instincts and focus on the magic inside of you already! No! Do.Not.DODGE.'" she giggled, mimicking her teacher's stern and loud voice. Soon enough, the half dog demon heard the bell for 4th period, but sighed happily, since she had no class right now. "Ever, what class do you have now? Cuz your gonna have to run like crazy not to be late!!!" Ever had been laughing softly at what her friend said. The sensei had said basically what Ever just had? Huh. First time that had ever happened with an authority figure. Ah well. But when her best friend mentioned Ever's class, Ever gasped is shock and started treading water quickly towards the shore. Or at least, she tried. She had only gotten a few inches when she felt something like a vine or a twig brush against her leg. That was really really weird because the bottom of the lake was thousands of feet down. There was nothing for a twig or vine to grab onto, nothing for it to grow from. Ever didn't have long to be puzzled by the sudden sensation, though. Almost immediately after the vine had brushed against her leg, it wrapped around her leg and pulled her down, below the surface of the lake. Ever only had a moment to gasp in shock and fear before her head disappeared into the water. All was silent for a few moments. There were no bubbles of air coming from the water, no thrashing. Just silence, as if Ever had never even been there... Then, there was a crashing sound, water was flying everywhere, and Ever's head had just broken through the surface once again, gasping for air. Ever was thrashing around frantically before she gained enough awareness to start swimming like hell toward land, making sure that this time as she swam, her head always stayed above water. On the way there, she reached out and grabbed Akira's arm and started pulling her to shore along with her (*). She was yelling as she was swimming and dragging her friend back to shore. "Get out of the water! Get out, Akira!" Once they had finally reached the shore and Ever had leaped up onto the ground and pulled Akira with her, Ever rolled over onto her back and just focused on breathing. Her breaths were still coming out hard and fast. {{* Lisa, I'm sorry this is a little like Godmodding, but I knew that there was no way Ever would just swim past her best friend and not try to bring Akira along with her. If you want me to change it, though, I sure can! Just PM me, or IM me whenever I come back on MSN, and let me know!}}

Arielle had sensed (and heard, in a fashion) the disturbances. First, of course, was the disturbance in the greenhouses; she hadn't noticed anything until she heard Miriam shriek like something unholy. As she'd watched in horror (she knew that Miriam was not dead, and that it was probably just an accident with some acidic substance or the like), Caroline had stumbled out of the greenhouse, seemingly upset.
She didn't know when, but she had stood up and went over to the window, and she watched Caroline look up... and sneeze flames. Oh. She'd forgotten that Caroline was a dragon for the merest second, forgotten to ask for any allergies. (It wasn't often that Bai Ching got dragons, though.) A silly mistake, but one that had already hurt someone.
Arielle shook her head. It was too late now; if she called Caroline up, it would seem like the poor girl had done something wrong, when she hadn't. Thankfully, there was to be a school-wide health examination in only a few days. It happened at least once each semester, and gathered all the necessary health information for every girl. Things such as allergies where only asked once, though, as they never changed, though if new ones were to be discovered, the girls were expected to tell of them.

((nah, it's okay lol))
Akira was still in shock, her heart pounding, as she laid down next to her best friend and mumbled, "s**t...What the heck happened to the lake!? Gave me a bloody heart attack..."
Ever had practically drowned!!! Those moments of deadly silence, where there had been no bubbles of air, nothing, had honestly terrified the half demon, and she had been about to dive down seconds later to rescue Evermore, when her best friend had resurfaced, well at least her head anyways, and had dragged her back to land.
The girl sat up and looked at Ever, smiling sadly.
"You alright...? I'm sorry, i didn't react fast enough...That it, just keep breathing...Deep breath now" god, she left like such a horrible friend right now!

The second disturbance, and what would have been much more dramatic if there had been more than two involved, happened by the lake, with Evermore and Akira. She frowned lightly, wondering what Evermore was still doing out when she had classes as well as how Akira had managed to get there so quickly, but pushed it out of mind. This disturbance was likely the reason for Evermore's tardiness, and Akira... Even though she usually would put punishment for obvious skipping, she didn't know the whole story and would let it pass just this once. She was kind, after all.
Quickly, she magicked herself over to the girls. They'd nearly drowned! She ended up a few yards away from where she'd intended, as she hadn't concentrated as much as she should have, but she didn't let that show or stop her. As soon as she was fully materialized, she walked briskly up to them, robes swishing.
"Evermore! Akira! Are you girls all right?"

Ever was still gasping when she responded to her friend. "No, no, it's ok. There's nothing you did wrong... What happened... It happened so fast... I wouldn't have been able to respond quickly, either.... I would have been too shocked to at first."
And then, almost right after she had finished speaking, Ever heard the Headmistress next to them. She must have sensed what happened and had come to them. Ever quickly turned over onto her hands and knees and then stood up. She was embarrassingly aware of the fact that she was still just in her underwear, but she was sure that the Headmistress would understand. Heck, water was still dripping off of her from the recent attack. Not like she had had time to get back into her uniform yet.
Ever managed to remember to still bow her head respectively to the Headmistress and then spoke, "Headmistress... I don't... I'm not sure what happened! I was simply in the lake with Akira, we were talking, she mentioned that I was going to be lake for my class, and then as I was swimming toward the bank of the lake..."
Ever shivered as she remember what happened next. "Something... something like a vine wrapped around my leg and pulled me down! It had brushed against my leg at first, which made me realize what it felt like at first before the thing wrapped around my leg and pulled me down. I knew there was no ground anywhere near us, so I knew it couldn't be a vine or twig that my leg had caught in. But I still tried to break free. I looked down to untangle my leg and I saw..."
Ever gasped as she remembered and ran over to her Headmistress. She hugged her tightly in fear. This did not happen very often, but the students knew that the Headmistress was like their mom away from home and provided them comfort. They all tried to behave like proper young ladies, but they were still just children.
"Headmistress, I saw bright white lights below me that looked like eyes! They were so bright and moving as they looked up at me! I don't know what they were! But I was released and I quickly swam back to the surface!"

Arielle was momentarily shocked from both Evermore's sudden hug and her hurried, frightened tale, but she wrapped her arms around the girl comfortingly. She didn't mind that she was now wet (there were plenty of simple housekeeping spells to fix that) or that Evermore was wearing only her undergarments. The poor girl was scared, and Arielle was not cold or uncaring.
"You poor dear," she murmured. "I'm terribly sorry that happened. Don't worry now, you're fine. Komm*, let's get you both dried off and get your leg checked over." She pulled back slightly, pushing Evermore's wet hair from her face, feeling a light frown pull on her lips. She kept one arm wrapped around Evermore, in more of a side hug, and then reached her other arm out for Akira.
She would have to tell them at least a small part of the lake's truth--a truth she wasn't even completely aware of.
((*German for 'come', sounds virtually the same. I may have the spelling wrong, but I think it's correct...))

Ever sniffled slightly as her Headmistress comforted her. She hated seeming so weak, especially in front of her Headmistress, but hell! She had almost died!
Ever nodded to what her Headmistress said about going to get her leg check out. While she waited for Akira to join them, she spoke softly, "I... I just want to forget what happened. I don't ever want to think of it again!"

Arielle frowned at Evermore's words. "No. It was a bad experience, but you should not forget it. Even bad things are worth remembered so as to learn from them. It is the cruel way of the world." It wasn't truly something Evermore could learn from, since she had done no wrong, and Arielle knew this, but it could--should--make the girl that much stronger, even if it went unnoticed by most.

((Akira's not skipping class, she's got that free period thing that Ever had 3rd period lol, just wanted to point that out!))
Akira had stayed quiet, horrified and quite mad to know that something very dangerous with glowing lights like eyes was down there and had tried to drown her best friend!
She too had bowed, blushing lightly by the fact that her gym clothes were thrown unceremoniously onto the ground and that being in soaked underwear wasn't exactly classy either, but whatever, the Headmistress didn't seem to mind.
The girl got to her feet and ran over, letting herself be hugged. She glanced back at the lake and frowned. If only she could give that creature or lights or whatever it was a piece of her mind!!
