"A late arrival," the auburn-haired man explained. "Psi-8, this is John Doe. John, Hewitt, Snap, and Arien. Tomias, the centaur is... probably with Andre. The monkey is Y'karrhr."

Snap raised an eyebrow. It looked like the mouth was well loved for his verbal skills by all who knew him.

Feeling that he finally had gotten the hang of the device Snap slipped out of the straps and kicked up the board. The board obligingly summersaulted before comming to rest at waist height while Snap landed gently on the deck.

Snap then proceeded to remove the greaves from his legs and placed them beside the bracers, which he reactivated on noteing the strain on the deck plate. Their inertia should keep them from being borrowed Snap thought to himself.

Snap proceeded to pull a toggle snap on a monomolecular fillament and hooked it through one of the straps.
Looking to the newest member of the motley crew that was Psi-8 Snap motioned for them to take up a try on the board they were given then lightly hopped onto his own board.

(Hey all. This is Sayuri Kirie aka silent Arien xD -- I'm going to try and pick this up again. ninja .RAWR. heart )

Passive and silent, she waited, breathing in the strange air she still was not accustomed to. Studying the hoverboard, she looked questioningly at Snap and Y'karrhr.

“I can get on one of these now, right?” She piped up.

Snap put on a precocious five year old like face set with all due seriousness.

"You can get on the board at any time.
Its the staying on that might be a little harder."

Arien pretty much ignored the response from Snap, which, was dripping with what she interpreted as sarcasm. She gulped. The simplicity of the object was what freaked her out the most. She liked to have something to hang onto when she was riding some... directionless board...she knelt down and fingered the straps. What material were they made out of? How fast could this sucker fall?

Now where in the seven moons did THAT come from Snap mussed to himself.
It was something that annoying sensei back home would say just to bug him. No, they wouldn't have done THAT to him, would they? Best to push such speculations and such unwelcome inner voices to the back of his conciousness and smother them like they desrve....

With a mental shrug Snap recentered and mentally bastioned himself before speaking once again.

Sqatting down on his haunces so that his head was at the same height as Ariens.

UHm, sorry if I offended. Just sit on it to get used to its balance and feel. Think of it as a bench seat or something that you feel comfortable sitting on.

The monkey speaks a lot without saying much of immediate use though he is mostly correct in that it is a use of your sense of balance.
Well that and a controll of your fear of heights, that is if you have such a sense of self preservation.

Snap was looking directly at the humanoid porcupine demonstrator with this last statement.

((Argh. ARGH. Stupid fool. It appears that our promised new arrival is definitely not arriving, so let's just pretend that didn't happen.))

((Also, apologies for my absence, and the brevity of my replies. ))

"I can get on one of these now, right?" Arien asked.

"That's the plan," Y'karrhr beamed. The smile's intensity waned a little and confucion flickered across his brow as Snap declared something that sounded as though it might be meant to be deep. Y'karrhr didn't generally do deep.

"The monkey speaks a lot without saying much immediate use though he is mostly correct in that it is a use of your sense of balance," he continued.

"Hey!" Y'karrhr protested. "You're not allowed to talk about me like that yet!"

But Snap seemed not to be listening, and coninued, with a pointed glance at Crash, "Well that and a controll of your fear of heights, that is if you have such a sense of self preservation. "

He gave an ironic little bow, his ridiculous arrtificial quills sticking straight up.

Vaguely sullen now, Y'karrhr hurried them along, and soon they were sitting near the edge of the hangar.

---

Kana smiled. "I might as well show you: i need to head up there eventually anyway.

"Hey!" Y'karrhr protested. "You're not allowed to talk about me like that yet!"

Standing back to his full height Snap answer with a curt half bow while the board was rock still under his feet. "My appologies for speeding up the timetable Mr Y'karrhr."

On straightening he have Crash and the rest of the team a sidelong wink.

((sorry for not getting back or posting much more - life is still really busy - I have a Gillwell reunion to prep for this wekend still, then all should be quiete again))

Tomias hesitantly gave her a nod before obediantly following her as she led the way. His feet made an almost steady beat on the floor, the beat occasionally getting quick and uneven every so often.

((Ugh, I am such a bad person. And no mattter what I say, I shall continue to do my worst. ... So "sorry" is kind of empty.))

---

Y'karrhr and Crash exchanged a grin, before the red-head turned his gaze back on the assembled recruits.

"Now," he beamed, "It's your turn to jump."

---

Tomias and Kana were soon walking between banks of heavily modified and highly personalised computers, in a huge, darkened room, whose theme seemed to be based on the concept of "black", and which gave a sense of being underground, in spite of the fact they were really surrounded by sky. Around one table with a fairly old-school spherical 3-D holographic display, something like a crisis meeting was taking place, with much hand-waving, pointing, and heated discussion. The only face in that group which Tomias might have recognised was Orpheus. Their clothing wass widely varied in style, but all wore only black, and many looked, to say the least, odd.

Less attention-catching were the other tower denizens scattered among the other terminals, poreing over maps, various readouts and visuals, and speaking concise instructions to the displays.

They soon found Andre, working with considerably less urgency than most of the others there, staring at a static display of goodness knows precisely what. Not a representation of anything concrete, that was certain. (In fact, it was his mapped-out synopsis of what had happened at Eq. North 3, what might have gone wrong, and what could have been done to avoid each possible problem. Neither Kana nor Tomias could read any of it, however, as he had (as usual) chosen to write it out in his native language, rather than Evinian Standard.) The sound of Tomias' hooves on the smooth floor alerted him to their approach, and he turned as they reached him, looking at Tomias at first with confusion, then with a warm smile.

"Andre, Tomias; Tomias, Andre," Kana introduced them.

"A pleasure," Andre smiled, showing only a hint of pristinely white teeth in his coffee-toned face.

---

"Excuse me," Orpheus murmured, turning from the group. "Yo," he said quietly, adjusting his earpiece.

Seth's unmistakable voice chuckled in his ear, over the background hubbub of a docking station. "You're not going to believe what I've just been failing to notice for the past ten minutes."

Orpheus screwed up his brow in a combination of confusion and concern that Seth must have finally gone entirely mad. "What?"

Seth laughed again. "There's a sodding Chamail standing on the platform looking lost."

Orpheus' eyebrows crept upward. "Are you sure?"

"Well, the fact that I can see his innards, his hair keeps changing colour, and I still managed to completely overlook him until just now is a bit of a dead giveaway."

"Where are you?"

Seth rattled off something that was a combination between a set of co-ordinates and an address. "And I'm in a speeder."

"Well, I guess something had to go right this week," Orpheus smirked. "How charming are you feeling today?"

Seth laughed at this. "O-o-oh, probably about three points short of sleazy. You want me to bring him in?"

"We'd be scouring the damn world for him for weeks otherwise," Oprheus shrugged.

"Yeah, you and me. Right! That's plus-one Chamail... s**t. Where did he go..."

"Seth..."

"No, I'm serious! I'm-- no, it's okay. I don't think the b*****d had even moved, and I still lost him. He's good!"

Orpheus sighed, rubbing his brow with one hand. "I guess that's good, then."

Seth let out a whoop, then cut off the transmission.

---

A flashy-looking speeder came neatly to rest on the docking platform some feet away from Yimal. Almost before it had completely stopped moving, the occupant swung himself out of the vehicle; over the side door, rather than through it. Said occupant was a man in his early twenties, smartly dressed, with a cascade of long, black curls caught up at the nape of his neck. He was wearing dark glasses, of a design fashionable among board and racer riders, which he now removed and folded into his top pocket. He stopped in front of the Chamail and, smiling, offered his hand.

"Welcome to Evine."
PostPosted: Wed Sep 27, 2006 8:25 pm

In all honesty, if he hadn't been a Chamail, Yamil probably would have been on the receiving end of some odd stares at the moment. Since he was, those stares were generally reflected to the space right next to his head, or somewhere off in the distance behind him. Of course, if he wasn't a Chamail, he wouldn't be receiving any stares in the first place.

He looked from side to side, trying to make head or tails of this place. He had only been here for about half an hour, and had so far not quite managed to get himself away from the docking station. Real good with big cities he was, reeaal good. A sigh escaped him, and if you happened to be looking at his exposed neck as he did, you would have seen the expansion and deflation of his wind pipe.

'Welcome to Evine.'

Yamil looked down at the offered hand, and up at the face, then back down to the hand. Other than the unexpected politeness, he was just surprised that someone had noticed him, and noticed him long enough to actually come over and say hello. A bit of color crept into his (literally) colorless skin, which was really only visible in a network of tiny capillaries that made themselves visible on the surface of his cheekbones. He nodded, smiling and shaking the man's hand, "Thank you...ahm, my name is Yamil, might I ask about yours?"

The young man grinned. "Seth, at your service. So, your first time in the City at the Centre of the Universe?" he asked, a little self-mockingly, then with a hint of not-overacted concern, "... Do you need a lift somewhere? Getting around can be a real b*****d here."

Tomias studied the vast sets of computers and the darkened room, feeling slightly more relaxed than in the other parts of the building. It reminded him vaguely of his own room back on what used to be his old planet, although near the end of his life there he had installed a daylight lamp in one corner to stop accidents with his four long legs and the many wires.

His eyes warily rested on Andre, another new face, as Tomias remained decidedly silent.

'So, your first time in the City at the Centre of the Universe?'

Another smile, another nod. "Yeah. And, uh...I really don't know where I'm going, so...maybe if you could point me in the direction of...something..."
