"So you mean... recreate the wings from the soul that's left behind," Zach asked. She had some knowledge of soul theory, so she guessed that using the soul to create something physical would make the wings a bit more fragile and, quite possibly, capable of being completely lost. The thought of that terrified her as was the case when Alnette first removed her wings.

"Exactly."
If she could do it properly the wings wound suffer minimal damage in the process, but the spell required a steady mind and utmost delicacy.

"I... I dunno... I can't help but feel that a million things could go wrong."
It wasn't that she didn't have faith in Emma, it was her fear of dying for good that kept her from making a decision.

"The choice is yours."
She was quite correct. There were many things that could go wrong, but Emma had nearly a thousand years under her belt, and she had a readily available sorcerer who had more.

"I... we could try it if there isn't another way," Zach sighed. She wanted her wings badly but wasn't willing to risk potentially damaging them again.

"If there is another way it will be in there." Emma gestured to the remaining books.
"I cannot touch them for long periods of time myself...purer magics than mine."

"Back to reading again," Zach nodded. "I don't mind, tho. They're really fascinating books. All kinds of things that I didn't know about myself in them."

"Such as?"
Emma conjured a book for herself, a slim volume dropping out of thin air and into her waiting hands.

"Oh, like it could take as little as a day for a young phoenix to grow feathers that have been lost," Zach said. "Adults take a little bit longer because the body has stopped growing as quickly, but it's only a week or so on average. So I could potentially give you feathers every other week."
Zach laughed at the idea, not realizing that it could be taken very seriously.

Emma's control, surprisingly enough, remained mostly intact.
But there was a faint tinkling as an inkwell shattered into a fine powder.
"Is that so?"
Her accent grew thicker as it did when she was trying too hard, Britain waving its proud flag in her words.

"Well it varies, but that's the average," Zach said, deciding to ignore the sound of the inkwell becoming dust. "Oh, and apparently it's rumoured that talons are supposed to have the same strength as steel, but I'm not sure about that one. And what else..."
Zach pulled the first book she had read and flipped through the pages.
"There was something in here about tail feathers," Zach muttered. "I've not been able to manifest them so I don't know how useful they are..."

The 'artist formerly known as Inkwell' shifted slowly, the glittering dust forming a small tornado on top of the desk.
With phoenix feathers...there were old wounds that needed healing.
Scars.

((She's trying really hard not to just lock him up on the spot as a personal stock, isn't she? XD))
"So I'll keep looking through until I can find something," Zach sighed and pulled out two books and opened them. She held her right hand over one and let Ivan read with her. Two heads were supposed to be better than one, after all.

((A few years ago she would have done so in a heartbeat. Trying to be a good person is so hard for her sometimes.))
Emma opened up her own book, losing herself in Voltaire's Candide before the former inkwell started gathering other objects and forming a full-on disaster.

((Then Zach's lucky she didn't know him a few years ago.))
While Zach read each line of the tome in front of her Ivan flipped through the pages and scanned each one as it went by. Eventually Ivan got fed up of only having the one arm and jerked Zach over to Emma.
"Oi, what's wrong," Zach tried to regain control of her arm.
