She glared a him a bit, standing up in front of him. "It's Hailey. And you know what? Pretending to not be interested just makes me want you even more." Walking in the direction of the closest booth, she looked back for a moment. "I'll just ask someone, then."

"I ain't pretendin'," Rory groaned as she walked away. He realized she was serious and quickly hurried after her. "Oi, lass. Tha's not th' way t' do it." He frowned. That girl was going to be trouble.

As she neared a man that she assumed worked at the carnival, she quickly looked back and winked a Rory, whispering, "Of course you're not." Looking at the man again, she smiled sweetly, tilting her head and speaking softly as she asked, "Could you help me find this boy's home? He says he can't remember how to get there. I think he's been drinking too much. I'm worried about him."

"Oi, Rory, lad, you been drinkin'?" the man asked, looking at the boy.
"Nae," Rory answered, folding his arms across his chest.
"Damn straight you better not be, boyo. Your dam would leave you black an' blue more'n any horse whate'er threw you," the man replied, leaning on the counter with one hand, the other on his hip. "What's this now, eh? Why's this girl askin' fae your home, lad? What've you done?"
Rory shook his head. "I done nothin'. She seems t' think I'm playin' hard t' get. I just donnae like her, Brody."
The man nodded. He could live with that answer. He looked at Hailey. "Lass, take me word fae it. You're better off wi'out th' dead-eyed lad here. He'll only gi' you freak bairns and heartache."
"Oi. Brody! You're suppose t' be helpin' me out here, you arse," Rory said, smacking a hand down on the counter.
"Ver' well then," Brody answered and looked at the girl, pointing off in to the camps. "You gae right back through there till you get to a red-painted wagon with knots on it, turn right an' gae down th' row till you find th' green vardo wi' gold rab--" And Rory punched him.
"Donnae tell her where I live, man! Are you completely daft?! I'm not playin' a game wi' her," Rory shouted.
"Gaen, lad, before I decide t' actually take offense t' bein' hit in me place o' business," Brody said, glaring at the boy.
"Gorram it," Rory muttered and headed off, not caring if Hailey followed or not. It didn't matter now thanks to Brody giving directions to his home.

"Thankies." Biting her lip and waving Brody a flirtatious goodbye, she couldn't help but giggle at how well things had played out. Skipping behind Rory, she reached out, half clinging to his arm again as they walked. "You're gonna show me inside, right? You don't live with Lee, do you? What'd that guy mean by dead-eyed? Wait, are these wagons your houses..." Her questions and observations continued nearly the entire walk to his vardo, the girl very much enjoying herself.

Rory didn't answer the girl, silently fuming at having to put up with her still. When they got to his little green vardo, he pulled his arm away from her and went in, slamming the door shut. He didn't have anymore time to deal with the girl, knowing his parents would want him to eat with them and he had to go get Lee still to take her over there. He pulled off his t-shirt and tossed it on his bed, right next to the one Lee had left behind a few nights ago, then went to get some water in the wash basin to get cleaned up.

Hailey didn't wait long before pushing open his door, poking her head inside and grinning at a shirtless Rory. "It's rude to slam doors in people's faces. Especially when they're pretty girls' faces." Casually stepping inside, she only briefly noted how small the home was before caring significantly more about Rory than her surroundings. Noting the scars and smiling at how rugged it made him look, she cocked an eyebrow. "I knew you liked me. You were undressing when you knew full well I was outside, and you didn't even bother to lock your door." She giggled, stepping closer to the boy with a mischievous grin.

Rory didn't look at her. "There ain't a lock on any door in Farstep. Didikai know well enough a closed door means t' stay th' hell out. I wasnae undressin' 'cause I knew you were out there. I donnae really care where you are. I got dinner wi' me parents an' still hae t' get Lee." He looked at her. "Just gae away, lass. I'm not interested. I ne'er will be."

Tilting her head, she looked him over and bit her lip. "Ohhh, that's right, you said you had plans... Well, fine. You win." She giggled, stepping over to him and pecking his cheek. "I'll just come back later." Turning around and moving for the door, she looked back for a moment. "Tell Lee I said sorry for saying all that... stuff about her. Nothing against her, really. Oh! And also say sorry that I'll be stealing her boyfriend. Toodles!" Skipping out and away from the vardo, her giggling could be heard from the vardo still, fading away as she made her way back toward to entrance.

Rory just leaned down to bang his head on the counter a few times. He was going to have to do something with that girl, true enough. Giving a soft sigh, he finished washing up and changing clothes, then headed to Lee's to get her, definitely wanting to tell her everything Hailey had said and done, and pretty sure she didn't mean it a bit about being sorry for talking bad about Lee.

Lee was sitting restlessly in her vardo, brushing and rebrushing her hair out of her face while biting her nails. It had been a while, hadn't it? Was it just her imagination? Ugh, that stupid girl! Why'd she have to be interested in Rory of all people? She'd managed to make a generally bad day even worse.
Lauss had disappeared once more, though it was very clear he'd been home. The leftovers from breakfast had disappeared and the note was gone, with a few extra book added to the growing pile below his hammock.

Rory came up the steps of Lee's vardo, standing in the door, hands outstretched to rest on either side of the door frame, silhouetted against the light behind him. "Lee?" He watched her a moment. "Are you alreet, love?"

Lee looked up and sighed with relief, standing and rushing to him. "Are you alright? She didn't molest you did she?" Checking his neck for hickeys, she sighed once more, pulling him close to hug him. "I dun even know what happened and I've never hated anyone more in my life."

"She didnae do anythin' t' me, love," Rory said, hugging Lee back. "But she knows where I live. She asked someone an' th' b*****d tol' her. She apparently wants me. I hae nae idea why. I kept tellin' her I weren't interested, but she insists I'm just playin' hard t' get. She said all these lies about you an' when I called her on it, she gave some weak-a** fake apology." He stepped back, rubbing his face. "La, but what is it wi' outsider girls comin' at me lately?" Then he realized what he said and looked at Lee. "I didnae mean it like tha'."

"She wants you because you're an attractive, sweet guy and she's a horrible, manipulative..." Sighing, Lee let him go, looking up at him. Honestly, she didn't even care about whatever Hailey had said about her anymore, she just wanted to make sure the girl didn't go too far with Rory. Cocking her head at his "outsider girls" statement, she raised her eyebrows, slightly offended to be considered on the same level as Hailey, or to still be considered an outsider at all, knowing how he felt about such people. Looking down, she decided not to say anything; they'd be visiting his family, and she didn't want to meet his mother while upset. She tried her best to change the subject. "Why do you smell nice..?" Registering quickly that he had bathed, her mouth fell slightly agape. "She didn't see you naked, did she?" That would be unacceptable...
