"Better be a really great goodnight kiss..." For once, Lee had been kidding; it was already better. Rory was taking it a lot better than she imagined he would. Nodding as he spoke, she looked up at him briefly, then back down at the ground as her feet moved along. Finally, some eye contact. It took a few moments to build the courage, but she reached out and held his hand as they walked, feeling as nervous as she had the first day she'd met him.

"Be th' best g'night kiss I've e'er given," Rory said honestly. Be the first one, too, but that was beside the point. Even though he didn't want to take her home, he was in a better mood as they walked, having calmed his hormones down a bit.

She smiled to herself, glad that, even though things went slightly awry, everything had happened with Rory and not some other crush she may have gotten. Glad that Faolan introduced them. Glad that, by some miracle, he liked her. As they neared her vardo, Lee sighed a bit before asking, "Can you promise that you'll still come see me after tonight?" She'd been told boys only had one reason for being interested in a girl, and now that she'd made it clear he wouldn't be getting that from her, would he forget about her?

Lee nodded and smiled, relieved to hear him say it, and sound so shocked she'd even mention such a thing. "I just... I heard... nevermind." Her grip on his hand tightened unconsciously, hoping Faolan or Ellandra didn't happen to see her coming home so late.

Rory stopped walking, setting his hands on his hips. "You heard what, lass? Tha' didikai men only got one thing on they're minds? Tha' all we look fae in a girl is how many bairns she can gi' us?" He shook his head. "W' ain't all like tha', Lee. I like you, an' it ain't got nothin' t' do wi' sex or babies. I just . . . I like you. You're different an' special." He shrugged. "And you donnae think I'm a freak 'cause o' me eyes."

"W-wait, what? No, not..." She hadn't meant to insult him, and hadn't even been talking about didikai men specifically. She was about to tell him she'd simply been talking about teenage boys in general when he mentioned his eyes. Pausing for a moment, she tilted her head and looked at him confused. "There's nothing wrong with your eyes. Why would I think that?" She couldn't help but wonder if someone other than just Rory had openly disliked his eye color.

"Most do," the boy answered. "I cannae help what I wis born wi', you know, but th' others, they talk sometimes. Our traditions also make us a superstitious people an' tha' ain't always a good thing." He shrugged, sorting out how to explain it. "Me eyes be th' eyes o' th' dead. People are uncomfortable around me lots 'cause o' them. They think I see th' dead or talk wi' 'em."

Lee's face soured a bit, shaking her head and stepping closer to Rory. "That's stupid. C'mon, don't listen to that. Your eyes are beautiful." She gazed into them, confirming it once more for herself. What was there to be uncomfortable about? Lee wasn't the best at making someone feel better, especially when she was getting upset that someone would even say such a thing about him.

"Guess there's some good t' bein' an outsider. You seein' me wi'out th' stigmas o' me culture," Rory said, smiling a bit. He put a hand on her cheek and leaned down to kiss her gently.

Lee shook her head and looked away, still slightly annoyed at people she'd never even met. Her frustration cleared, however, with Rory's touch. She smiled faintly up at him before looking down, a bit embarrassed at herself, and walking forward to her door.

"Oi, lass, you're not gonna let tha' be th' g'night kiss I pomised, is you?" Rory laughed walking up after her. "At least gi' me a chance t' say g'night proper before you gae t' shuttin' th' door in me face, yeah?" He grinned, clearly teasing the girl, though he desperately wanted to kiss her again.

Her head facing the ground to hide the small blush on her cheeks, she turned around to look at him, a small grin on her lips as she stepped closer. Tilting her face upward, she smiled at him, a rather devilish smile for Lee.

Rory tilted his head a little at the smile, moving to rest a shoulder against her door frame, looking down at her. "What's wi' th' grin there, lass?" He moved a hand up to stroke her cheek gently, enjoying the simplicity of just touching her, feeling her soft skin. "I donnae really wanna do this. Not because I donnae wanna kiss you--tha' I could do fore'er--I just donnae want this night t' end yet."

"I'm waiting for that kiss you promised me. Your 'best goodnight kiss ever'." Lee bit her lip, looking behind her at the door and before turning back to Rory and shrugging. "I'd ask you to come in if there wasn't a Lauss in there..." Then again, if she did that they may just end up in the same situation they were in moments ago.
