Z'nal's earlier growls had faded back into his typical thunderous glare, but now it was directed at F'sey, who looked...
Well. Not well at all. It made him wonder if the other rider had gotten himself soused at the recent gather and was now suffering the mix of hangover and heat. If that was it it would just about serve him right, but still.
Not sure quite what the cause was of the man's struggles, he decided to keep an eye on things for now.

For a minute there as the second bronze spilled out onto the sands things looked like they could get dangerous. And Nehren covered his face with his hands…still peeking between spread fingers. But surely the queen would not let the pair of her brood start a fight right there on the sands! And it seemed that was correct as the tension seemed to decrease as the two made free of their shell fragments and made their own paths to their chosen. The fact that the first hatchling was at last choosing was positive as well and with the combination of such good results he was sure he heard a collective sigh of relief from the ones gathered around him.

However the first Bronze hadn’t just picked any old Candidate. Conomor! Conomor had been chosen and he could hardly think of better, the confident young man had been so kind to him when he first arrived and never had a bad word to say, although they were not close enough to be counted as true friends he was happy for him and the fact that he impressed meant that he would have someone to congratulate at the feast whatever happened, now if only him and vesyes would make up!

Then came the wait, seconds. Minutes. All the candidates getting more tense and wound up as time slowed to a belly crawl. What must it be like for the dragons waiting inside those eggs? Did they know that so many eyes would be on them when they emerged, it must be quite alarming? At least he imagined so.

Ahhh, there it goes, almost at the same time, scratch scritch against the eggshell and two were breaking free. The milk egg first, the one he had admired as being so bold to be out in front of the two bronzes was first to break free, so confident she felt the need to help along another. And this was green two, in fact quite the stunning pair. And Like all others he held his breath as he watched the two sisters in arms, or should that be wing? Making their way over to the males.
This could be it.

It seemed to have been forever that the sands lay quiet. This was a clutch that liked to take his time, it seemed. Not that it was a bad thing- anticipation only sweetened things...unless you were impatient! Then, suddenly, movement. Scratching. Several more moments and finally, the green from the other striped shell popped free. It wasn't long before the outgoing and cheerful green was joined by a more meek little green. Lo and behold, another pair! Good things came in twos, right? Or was that trouble that always came in twos? A least these two seemed to get on better than the two bronzes had.

Jaid stood up on tip toes to better see past the Candidates in front of him. Oh, they were coming to the males! How exciting!

There was no mistaking it this time. Impression had been made...for both of the bronzes. Ceanandin took a small step back to make room for the newly Impressed pairs, then another as the depth of his loss reached him. Two bronzes--two bronzes steps away, watching and waiting for what had felt like hours, and both had chosen around him. It was some small relief to note that the boy who had been standing forward with him Impressed; at least it had worked for one of them. The cracking of additional eggs also served to snap him back to the present, and briefly his eyes turned to the little greens.

Straightening his shoulders, he cleared his throat and called over to Okassis, "Congratulations." He tried, he really tried to sound pleased for the once-Candidate. There was no use in lingering over the loss. It was disappointing--terribly disappointing--but the dragons chose who they would. And the Hatching wasn't over yet. There was still a chance. A...slimmer chance, but a chance. His focus turned now to the remainder of the clutch, the two little greens and the unhatched eggs. He put the loss of the bronzes behind him and...prayed a bit harder.

As another egg burst Riyinn held her breath the two bronzes finally both with someone the green seemed almost afraid.

She almost wanted to run out and hug her as she cried out her sibling trying to cheer her up.

All was going well. Even though she was still among the unchosen candidates Pendra found herself smiling cheerfully as impressions were made. Her heart had been in her throat though at the confrontation between the two bronzes, but it had just been posturing and now both were safe with their new riders. Okassis who always seemed to be in the middle of things, one of the bronzes was for him. "Probably not much of a surprise there," she said and wondered just what his honorific would shorten his name to... "We'll find out soon enough."

The next hatchling however couldn't arrive soon enough... the lull between the bronzes impressing and the next promising movement among the remaining eggs dragged on and on until finally the other small banded egg began to move along with one of its neighbors. A crack and suddenly a green burst onto the sands... she was certainly charming and seemed rather interested in her sibling. Pendra curiously the watched as the banded green led her sister... "How interesting..." It didn't quite matter that they were heading for the boys, after all it was the final destination that counted...

With her sister guiding her, the smaller of the greens began to stroll by all the males. She was clearly taking her time, looking over each and every male one by one. It simply wouldn't do, to pass over Hers! Especially if it was because she was just in a hurry! The thought was enough to trouble any dragon and she simply wouldn't let such a fate be hers. Not her!

Meanwhile, the milk snake green was watching her sister. Well, she seemed like she was all set, right? Pleased that her job was done, and done well, the banded green decided to poke around the candidates for herself. After all, she needed to find Hers, too! She had things to do, people to meet! There was very little time to be wasted. Clearly, she didn't subscribe to her sister's theory of slow and steady wins the race.

But win the race she did! Raising herself up onto her hind legs, the delicate green looked Hers in the eyes. Jiriarmine. Your Ianquith...your Ianquith has found you, she said softly.

Kyllae almost screamed with excitement. As it was, she held Nelioa's arm in a death grip, and her face practically broke under the force of her smile. "You go Okassis!" she cheered under her breath, bouncing up and down a little. "That's my friend that just impressed," she explained excitedly. To think, Okassis a bronze rider! Oh she would never let him hear the end of it! Just wait 'til she got a hold of him! She would give him the hug of his life, she would!

Or...maybe not. She didn't feel so hot. Her hand was kinda tingly, so she let go of Nelioa's arm. Why was it so damn hot? It was night, wasn't it? She chewed her lip a little, but kept her eyes on the eggs and the two greens making their way over to the boys. She would be fine. Just a little dehydration maybe? She hadn't all that much to drink today, and now she was getting overly excited. Shells, how annoying to be bothered with something as trivial as a headache at a hatching.

Maranan took his time. This was the third hatching since he had come. It was so crowded now. He found it harder and harder to find time and peace in this place. Even his favorite fishing spots were full of people now. He knew he might not have a chance this time either, but he knew he had to go. If nothing else just in case. He never knew if a dragon would come looking for him, so he went. He was dressed within minutes and watched the others rush past him. He went to the hatching grounds and was nearly floored by all the candidates milling about. He took a place toward the back. He watched as the others impressed and walked off. He was happy for them. He waited.

Veyes knew it...the bronze had been waiting for its brother....another bronze! And from what it appeared, RIVALS! For once his imagination had poked into reality and he watched with intensity even though his head was starting to swim. That headache was more than just a driving force...it could have been a hammer now. Rubbing his hand over his forehead he pushed aside his long locks then saw what he had hoped would happen...someone he knew impressed. And...it was Conomor.

The look of fascination upon his former friend's face brought a tear to his eye. Veyes was happy for Con even if he couldn't tell him so. Yeah...well Con got a real challenge but he knew that Con would be more than ready for it. He imagined that for Con, the world had changed completely.

As he glanced back towards the eggs, he caught sight of Nehren and waved slightly before coughing heavily into his robe trying to stop another fit that took over. Eventually he was able to look up again and realized two more eggs had hatched. Two greens! He sighed under his breath as his tongue felt rather dry and guessed that these might not take as long as the bronze did to choose. He started having a few doubts about his chances this evening...especially feeling like he did.

Jessan held his breath tightly when the two bronzes Impressed back to back. The others were certainly enjoying this as much as he was... Fists unclenched, the former herder was happy for everyone so far. How could he not be? No dragons had gone /between/ and now...

Now two little greens broke free from their shells. Almost immediately, they both made their way over to the males. Briefly, he wondered why no females had Impressed. And then, it happened. They stopped in front of his group.

Please. Please, let one of you be mine! He thought fiercely and loudly to himself and hopefully to one of the little greens. His eyes met those of his friends as they waited to see who would Impress or if they would be passed by. Then, it happened. One of the two girls looked over at his cousin and he could see a change...

Was it Impression for them both?

The Blue and both Bronzes had Impressed, leaving Westren again with the bittersweet feeling. Despite his best efforts to not get his hopes up, to remain detached from the Hatching, it seemed like an impossible task. He’d have to ask Quinnel how she had handled the emotions of so many failed Hatchings.

The empty sands and pause in the hatchings made him vaguely worried, but he quickly shook it off. If nothing else, the Queen egg would hatch, so the clutch wasn’t done yet. As if on cue, one of the eggs began to rock, and then another, and eventually two Greens graced the sands, headed towards the boys.

He clapped when the first Green Impressed, the wheels in his head beginning to turn. He knew, of course, that there was always a chance that he might Impress a Green, yet the thought had never truly seemed to register until now. Like most boys, he dreamed of Impressing a Bronze – not that he though he actually would – or Brown, or even a blue; more “proper” colors for a boy. He realized that this was his Hold upbringing speaking, and that there were would be advantages to Impressing a Green.

With that, Westren turned intent eyes to the sands, feeling as though his odds had somehow improved.

"Aaah, I definitely will." H'dra dipped his head. He could tell that his dragon was extremely displeased that he did not get to come to watch the Hatching. No doubt he would have to go comfort Dievath later when the blue was reminded that he couldn't come to the Feast either. There were times when the dragon clearly wished he was a human, and times when the feeling was mutual. H'dra would have loved to hide in his weyr all evening, that was for certain.

He followed Zara's gaze to the sands and sucked in his breath sharply. "The bronzes... aren't going to fight are they Miss Zara?" Dragons didn't like to fight, Dievath told him so, but these were hatchlings. Did they know better? Luckily for both the crowd and the candidates, the bronzes seemed to settle their differences and move on. H'dra gave a sigh of relief. "I don't want anyone to get hurt in this Hatching... that would be very sad." He still remembered the girl that that green had taken out in Dievath's hatching. The thought of such things happening to other people his age was frightening.

Kiri's breath caught when the two Greens stopped in front of his group of friends, eyes widening with surprise. He glanced at the others, and it seemed that this first was for none of them but Jiriar. A grin blossomed on his lips and he did his best to contain his voice, wanting to cry out his congrats to his friend. Now he just wondered what would happen with her quieter sister...

Two greens... The one, so shy and demure, and the other more bold and caring. A grin pulled at his face as the bigger seemed to help her sister along, tilting his head faintly with amusement. So strange, to think personalities could vary like this. Dragons really were like humans, weren't they? So strange, so different from what he was used to working with. He'd hardly even noticed when the slender, lithe dragon had pulled herself up onto her hinds in front of him, feeling his jaw drop with surprise as whirling eyes captured his own.

Jiriarmine. Your Ianquith... your Ianquith has found you.

He didn't even feel the sand scorching his knees as he slowly dropped to them, entirely disbelieving as shaking fingers reached out for the tiny green. She came to him willingly, and his heart suddenly swelled with affection, comfort, love. His throat had closed up, her soft skin brushing against the rough callouses of his own fingers before her tiny body had nestled against his own, and a soft croon slipped from her as she tried to comfort Hers. "Oh Ianquith," He finally managed to choke out, torn between grinning like a sharding fool and just breaking down. But he couldn't, not here, not when something was tickling in the back of his mind. That was about the time the pang of hunger flared in his gut.

I am very hungry, mine... We should not stay on the sands. She fretted a little, and that was more than enough to force him to lurch to his feet. His world was a daze now, glorious and complete. Never alone again, never, not with Ianquith at his side! But Shards, she'd chosen him, out of all these people...

You are mine. You are kind, you are brave, I am yours. She replied, quiet and demure, but frankly. He could only shake his head in wonder, his hand all but glued to her slender neck even as he led her away on unstable legs. "Always, always, always yours." He promised her, fingers dancing across her skin with excited jitters. Shards!
