Mathias looked up, blinking for a moment as someone entered the stable. He didn't stop brushing the horse he was standing behind, and smiled at the newcomer,"Hey, hows it going?" he said good naturedly while he hummed a soothing tune to the horse, working the brush down its hindquarters methodicly,"I'm Mathias Valenti...newly recruited to the Corps..." his voice sounded muffled from behind the horse until he popped back up into view again, still smiling.

((I'm guessing that Mathias was talking to Gene?))
Mathias. Valenti? The same as the Director. This could be perfect. If they're related I can gain more recognition faster by keeping him safe...
"My name is Gene Clancy. According to the notice outside you and I are assigned to the same team. Our third member is a woman named Emma. I look forward to working with you Mathias Valenti." That said Gene turned away and walked to the stall where his horse, Bolt, named for the streak white fur down its dark brown face, waited for him.
Gene always paid to have one of the stable boys take care of Bolts needs for him, so the brown horse was already brushed and saddled and ready for him to ride. He took the horse from it's stall and led it, by the reins, out to a circular riding area where he had had targets set up.
William could feel the energy surging through his body, resonating within him. To and from the sword he held in his hands. As he came around from his spin he saw that once again Sol had reacted to his movements and put himself in a favorable position. He knew that he could release the energy that he shared with his sword and blow the other man away from him. But he wanted to fight this battle without relying on his power. It was his trump card, and a simple training match did not call for it, even if he were to lose.
As he continued his attack he leapt forward, intending to bring his sword to his left side and roll as he hit the floor to Sols right. If that worked then he planned to come back to his feet, rotate from within his crouch and attempt his attack again from the new angle.

Kiro turned his head to the side to see who just approached him. "Oh hey. What are you doing all the way up here?" Kiro asked Train, his voice more subtle and relaxed but at the same time sounded very sorrowful.

Emma's head stopped as the rest of her body kept moving on her way back to the table. Then her body turned back and she stared at a paper notice she had never seen before. "New teams? Awww! That pale kid gets Will and Kiro!" Emma smiled as she drank, actually returning to the table. Passing John on the way back she waved with her empty hand.
Reaching the table she sat back down and smiled at Malkin. "Good and bad news boyo!" Emma started, "There have been teams assigned! You have Leroy and Matthew. They're both pretty good, but Leroy has quite the personality... Matt too, but he's fun." Emma said as she sat back and seemed to reminisce.
She suddenly sat back forward again, almost slamming her mead onto the table. "So, now that John has moved on... I don't mean to pry, I did see your actions when you mentioned it. But, I wanted to talk about that past of yours." Emma said, she was excited, but she was trying not to show it.
Isaac was surprised, he might have the chance to win on the second move. Isaac let Matt grab his halberd's edge, but Isaac had a plan. He spun closer, positioning his arm so that he was still able to hold the shaft of his weapon while reaching for his other. When he finished his spin he drew and pointed the flintlock pistol that was loaded, but not ready to fire. He didn't want to shoot anyone, accidentally anyway. The pistol barrel was pointed directly at Matt's head. "Winner winner?" Isaac muttered as he waited for the response. Perhaps Matt had a way out?
Train quickly became aware just through Kiro's tone that there was something wrong. "Needed to try and relax." Train said blatantly. He turned and look at Kiro with his good eye, "And what appears to be your issue?" Train took the liberty to point at his eye in case Kiro had forgotten about his little ability.

Kiro sighed and leaned back. "I don't know... I've just been thinking, you know." Kiro started as he stared up at the sky. "We've been with the Calvert ever since it started, but it doesn't seem like things in this world have improved much at all. Are we doing something wrong?" Kiro asked, though not really expecting an answer from Train.

Malkin froze in the middle of eating a few seeds. Setting them down slowly, he began to think back. "Figured this was coming, sooner or later. You already knew a lot about me. Where do you want me to begin? There's three starting spots. When I met a fiend, when I found my weapons, and when I joined the Corps. All are similar, except in gravity. It's pretty simple, I'm the result of when a high level fiend with intelligence spares a human instead cursing it to be similar to other fiends. Eventually, the curse will rot out my soul causing me to, in essence, become a human fiend. I avoid combat because I often lose myself into it, becoming more fiend than human in combat. Guards found me after the fiend wiped the village. Knew what I was, and threw me out into the forest to die. They didn't want my blood on their hands." Malkin sneered angrily, remembering the day well. The guards looked at him as if he was some animal or leper, driving him to the forest with insults and swears. Shaking his head, he continued. "Eventually I found some old ruins in there. Old castle I think. Anyways, there were some weapons stashed in one of the rooms. It was really odd. The castle looked Ages old, but the weapons appeared to have been forged only the day before. Never got dull either. Anyways, I found three weapons in there. One Double-Bladed Sword and two Black Swords, twins of one another. Trained myself to them and eventually learned of the Corps from some peddlers. They traded with me sometimes. Always hid my eyes and never said much. They figured I was avoiding the fiends. So I left my forest home and found this place. Signed up immediately. The enlisters didn't much care that I had been cursed. Only warned me that if I turned, I'd be killed on sight. And that's how I'm here. Found alchemy to be a good method of controlling myself. Also found a dog to comfort me and keep me human. Any questions?" he ended abruptly, looking her straight in the eyes, his own golden eyes narrowing more like an animal's than a human's.
((Wow, that was a lot. Let me know if you want me to drop the font size so I don't stretch the page awfully.))

((I actually prefer stretching the page with a normal font as compared to hurting my eyes trying to read a tiny font. And sorry that this contradicts your post a little, Kyground, but you shouldn't have assumed that you could get your other weapon all the way up without Matt reacting.))
Matt, unlike William, was not opposed to using his special ability to win a fight. Now if only he could think a bit faster as to how to implement it to get him out of this situation. As the gun came up, toward him Matt pushed forward and swung his other arm out to the side, hoping to catch his opponents arm as he brought up the firearm. Matt knew that if he applied a little heat and flame he could possibly detonate the weapon, but he didn't believe that that was called for in a sparring match. While he was doing that he pulled on the halberd with his other arm, attempting to tear it from the smaller mans grip.

(Might want to trying a little paragraphing though. And Stoic, 'tis fine. One it's your rp, do what you want. Two, it's a little harder to fight with two controlled and important characters than someone whom can just be killed off. You never can get all the reactions into one post before someone else has to too.
...
Does that even make sense? (Not saying it's difficult to comprehend, just that maybe I wrote it funny...))
Emma ate a little more slowly and daintily than before as she listened to Malkin's story. "Cursed.... That's tough, but in the same way a blessing, as he mentioned before. Hmm.... I'm sure I've heard of this before." Emma thought as she swallowed another draught of mead. At the question of questions Emma nodded. "Just one, otherwise I'm content. What about observing battle?" If Malkin became dangerous even when not participating, but observing a fight, his future companions should know.
"Really? You went there?" Train commented as he shook his head. He looked back over the ledge then, "Did you really think this world would be so rapid to improve? Just dealing with the fiends won't change that many things." Train sighed, now he would have actually comfort him a little so he didn't get all weird and complainy. "Just think of it as laying the foundation. We help now, it gets better, faster, later. It's still a good thing."
(You still shouldn't have done that though Stoic. smile )
Isaac didn't think he would have actually won so soon. But what he did know, was that he was being pulled, and he used that both to dodge the swipe for his gun and used for the counter. Isaac ran with his halberd, bring his pistol back down to his side, to keep it out of the way. Isaac knew Matt had his halberd by the blade rather than the shaft, which made things a lot easier. Better yet, it wasn't the spike on the top, it was the more ax-like blade that he grasped. (Going from what was said.)
Following after his halberd, Isaac suddenly threw himself backward and toward the ground, using his feet to kick up on his halberd, sliding the blade out of Matt's hand. Better yet, he was a little behind Matt now, allowing a more effective counter. The landing from his little 'escape' move hurt a lot, and was close to knocking the wind out of him. But it would likely only cause a bruise, hopefully. He continued to use the momentum and swung his feet and arm that grasped the halberd shaft to make a low sweep with his weapon.
(There are serveral problems with the Isaac part. I foresee this... And I know about the ever present flow problem...)

"Yeah, I understand that..." Kiro replied, though still irritated in someway or another. "You know we're getting assigned new teams today. We should check whose with who." Kiro suggested as he jumped to his feet in his nimble way. Kiro reached his arms to the sky, stretching as if he were asleep for several days and just standing up for the first time.
"By the way, you didn't see that match between Tyrone and I, did you?" Kiro asked quickly as he brushed himself off.

Malkin smiled a bit, thrown off by her question. "Actually, no. I only get agitated if it's a human getting injured by a fiend. I'll do everything, even die, to prevent a single death. I can't stand the idea of this happening to anyone." he said softly, relieved to have someont to talk to about his 'condition.'

It was clear this fight was going to be a workout, and in all honesty was definitely one of the hardest fights he had participated in a long while. Time to edge towards the offensive Aries saw the sword coming in from the new angle and shifted his body and his staff toward the attack, placing the staff between his right side and the incoming attack. Just short of the attack making contact with his staff, Aries put his own body into motion, leaping into the air and twisting his body, using the moment of the blade into the staff to aid the spin. Basically allowing him to roll over the attack unscathed and land on his feet with little time lost. The smoothness of the move gave him mere seconds of an edge, or at least he hoped as he thrusted an end of his staff toward William's stomach much like the piercing action someone with a spear would do. Even in this attack he took care to mind his defense keeping the staff on the side closest to the passed sword of William.
John piled the food onto his plate and before he was finished the food lay amassed in a mount of meat, mashed potatoes, and other vegetables. He went back to his usual spot leaving Malkin and Emma to whatever it was that he could sense was there. Sitting down, he greeted the people at the table and began to eat.
It wasn't long before he had clean his plate of any remaining food, he dropped of his dishes and headed to the forge. Where he could tend to anyone coming in, that was indeed in need of help.
Leroy had done about twenty-one reps with each arm before he decided to call it good, an excellent workout to begin his day, as he had only woke up a little under an hour ago. Leroy dropped down from the tree, and headed toward the cafeteria.

William hadn't expected that sort of agility, though he knew instantly that he should have. He paid for it too, as the staff came in on his stomach. He tried to fall back, slightly at least, though it would not be enough to spare him the hit. As the staff came in he took one hand off of his sword hilt and made an attempt to grab the offending weapon. He knew that the impact would probably stun his body for a moment, but he attempted to get his arm turned about to make a return swing anyways.
Matt did not see the crazy escape attempt coming but he did see the sweep. Rather than try to get low enough to deflect it he decided to turn his evade into an attack, and all but literally "fell" at Isaac. He led with his left hand, reaching for the pistol, while he kept his right back against his side, ready to begin his assault from extreme close range.

Mathias blinked as his new team mate left without another word. He was used to having others smile and share in his usual goodwill. He shrugged, and thought perhaps this Gene was having a bad day. With that thought he finished brushing down the horse and let it nuzzle his palm a bit before guiding it back to its stall. That done he gathered up his sword belt and headed towards the training area. Some training would be good, and he wanted to be in tip top shape before he and his team were handed their first mission.

Aries stepped quickly towards William's left, with William holding the one end of the staff, Aries used it like a pivot point, swinging the staff upwards while he move, his hands flipping one at a time to adjust so he could do it comfortable. After the few strides it would take to get to William's side and a little bit behind him actually, Aries turned his body, to face like that of William's, and brought his knee for William's back, in the attempt, and aside form just landing a hit on William, Aries wanted to push him forward and off balance.

Train snorted in a tired way, "Great, more missions..." Train started. He straightened himself up and folded his arms behind his back, grasping at his own elbows. This indicated that he was willing to go with Kiro.
"You fought Tyrone? I wish I had seen it know that you mention it. How did you do?" "Oh, shouldn't have mentioned it. Now I get to bust on you. Heh heh." Train thought.
Emma nodded sagely, she wanted to mention something, put she felt she would probably hurt the boy. "How injured? Is there a severity condition? And Malkin, be sure to mention this to one of your team mates. You don't really have to go into detail if you don't want to, I guess. But, well, you see the reasons, right?" Emma finished with. Her lunch lay nearly forgotten at that point.
Isaac certainly wasn't expecting Matt's own counter. But the way Isaac was already spinning, he could already move against Matt. The momentum which he had used, and now starting to fade away, was used again. Isaac quickly threw out his leg to push off of Matt before he was too close, he was sure to bring his halberd with him as he escaped to the right.
As Isaac slid away, he started to roll and pushed himself up with his halberd. His halberd spun in one hand and his other replaced his pistol in his vest as soon as his feet hit the floor. Isaac was very proficient in gaining distance in close quarters. And what a lot of people didn't know about polearm fighters, was that they were actually very skilled in close quarters, a lot of times more proficient that what most assumed the 'normal distance was.
Isaac's halberd stopped spinning and came to rest in both hands at the ready.
