My guy is bi as well, and being raised with nothing but sisters, when he considers marriage, he usually slips in thought by thinking he'd be the bride. X3

He could go either way, though he flirts with any gender. I was wondering if there are ever cases of Ursaris being soul-mated to the same gender.
PostPosted: Sun Nov 02, 2008 9:36 pm

Unless the paid raffle Ursari end up being pre-determined genders, it could end up that way. Eight Ursari to be matched up (possibly more, I think Natsu did exchanges with the staff who offered Pala to the raffle), and they might not end up an equal mix of male and female xd

My concept is up so far here. Looking for crit, even though I've not quite narrowed down his outfit yet. Got to sketch some ideas before finalising that, but all the rest is pretty solid.

I have a doctors appointment to go to, but ill be back after work to read concepts and answer questions.

Heres one answer though:

Baba can and will match couples of the same sex together ONLY IF there are no other desirable members of the opposite sex. This is only because traditionally marriages were meant to procreate. Now that things have changed (i say now, but its been going on for about 500 years) its only done for tradition.

also, Unis are considered ill omens, they cause distrust and a bunch of other bad things.

More on that when i return but Solar took the single uni offered.

I have a few questions and I apologize if these have been asked.

One question is like... how different do the Pivito look from the other Ursari? Are they like the hulks and scary body builders of their species? I'm trying to get a better image [and even trying to draw an image of my girl but not sure how far to go with the muscles of excellence! xD], especially of the females, as they are more in charge would they be larger or would males have more of the strength as usually happens in the animal kingdom?
Two, do apprentices always have to do the exact same craft as their masters? Like could they be under a master who would teach them the same set of skills but could be teaching them to make something different than their own trade?
This also goes with the question of if they know, feel deep down inside them or are told [by like.. Baba or something, even though she seems to be the matchmaker] they are meant to do a certain trade or if they are charted off to a master and thus instructed how to make what their master makes.

Name: Beri'ah
Family: Thetana
Gender: Female
Stage: Apprentice

Seller of: Mail delivery. Beri'ah is training to work at the 'post office' of the caravan, working with unique birds to deliver letters. A message is written on a scroll and placed in a tube which is loosely tied to one ankle, though the bird would grip it with both feet unless landing. Using light weight stones, Beri'ah is able to train the birds to 'read' a rock to find its land of origin. In the bird's mouth she would set the rock of the bird's destination, while on the other ankle would be a small pouch for the stone of where the bird is coming from so that whoever receives the bird can send it back to her.

She always keeps the multitude of stones organized in neat containers, constantly updating a myriad of maps as they travel and training birds to read the rocks. The birds can fly for days without rest, though they require special attention by means of food when they do land. For delivery within the caravan itself, Beri'ah uses either younger birds with a charm to specific carts or she runs it herself if it's close enough.

Eyes: Sharp blue eyes, serious in nature.
Horns: A little closer to the side of the head than the top, the horns arch slightly back, but then bend more downwards with etchings near the tips.
Hairstyle: With a natural part down the middle, Beri'ah keeps her long hair in two long wraps that usually hang down the front with her bangs framing her face. She may tie little ornaments at the end of the wraps to help tie them off.

Personality: Beri'ah doesn't joke around when it comes to what she does, leading some to believe she is a bit temperamental. Despite her sometimes sharp demeanor, Beri'ah is almost always neutral when it comes to arguments or decisions. Due to respecting the privacy of letters she deals with, Beri'ah has taken to a "mind your own business" view of relationships. That isn't to say that she's unfriendly or bitter, but many may find getting to know her feels a bit tense at first.

Position/Expression: One arm up, releasing a messenger bird. Her manner is calm and composed, and her face is serious.
Outfit: Beri'ah tries to keep a professional appearance, so her clothes tend to look like a more subdued version of whatever is fashionable, though she does have an appreciation for little details.
Items?: A gauntlet on just her left arm, which she uses to let birds perch on while her right hand is free to work with any other intricacies.

Etc: The physical appearance of the birds is unique in that their wings are akin to that of a butterfly's. While it's still of feather, it looks like there are four wings with the back two wings being smaller than the front. The tail isn't as prominent, being rather narrow, but it is long. Most of them are white, but there are some browns and greys.

References: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/lady_mist/bermailref.jpg Again, artistic freedom with clothes or even with a hairstyle change. I couldn't decide what hair color would suit her o.o;

Your Ursari has not been able to find a master and cannot be considered an adult until she or he does. There are two main types of Masters, Tutors who focus on one apprentice only and Teachers, who focus on a large group of children. With everything in the Ursari world, there are many tiers within Masters, depending on their skill. Why hasn't your Ursari found a Master? How does it make them feel? What do they do to get one?

The gentle rocking of the covered wagon reminded Beri'ah of the ocean. She had never seen it herself, or perhaps had been too young to remember, but Beri'ah always thought that the sway of a wagon was akin to the pull of the waves to the moon. Blue eyes flickered towards the sky, a light curtain of clouds tucking away the sun for an afternoon nap. The gentle flap of wings on wind caught Beri'ah's attention, and she pulled her eyes back to the white wagon she was following behind.

The white canopy of the wagon was more of a cream or grey by now, the color having lost its purity long ago with experience in long travels. The bird gingerly landed on one of the myriad of poles on the side, a tube dangling from a foot, its own feathers a shockingly bright white. Beri'ah had fallen in love with the birds the moment she saw them, watching with silent fascination as the creature with four wings preened itself.

Slowing, Beri'ah noted the wagon was coming to a stop. A tall, thin man slipped out, walking around to the bird with a treat in hand. She didn't miss the glare he shot at her, though she pretended as if she hadn't seen it.

"Master Talon," Beri'ah greeted as she walked up to him, "I'm sure you're busy, so I can feed the gagan birds for you."

The man gave a frustrated sigh, running a hand through his greying hair, "Don't call me master. Get out of here already, I already told you before that I ain't hiring."

Maintaining an unmoving mask of a smile, Beri'ah inched closer to observe them, "I'm not asking you to hire me, I'm asking you to accept me as your apprentice. I can sense the connection of earth, so it's not like I'd mess up the rock collection, and I've been teaching myself basic cartography and outpost locations."

"If you can do that then go help navigation or make charms. Heck, you can even sell maps I'm sure. This is a post office, not a play ground." The bird had dropped the location rock from its mouth into Talon's hand, giving an eager cry in anticipation of its meal. Feeding the bird, Talon removed the tube from its foot and the other location rock from the pouch on the opposite foot.

Indignant at having been referred to as a child on a playground, Beri'ah gave a dainty sniff, though her composure didn't waver, "I've already decided that this is what I want to do. It's much more respectable and I understand the concept of confidentiality so you can trust I won't snoop into people's letters. You're the only one qualified, so it has to be you to teach me."

He gave her a long look, his dull green eyes flashing, "No."

Beri'ah had been given the same answer for some time now, and as composed and apathetic of a child as she was, even she could have her feelings hurt after so many rejections. Her mask became like stone, her smile a little more stiff, "At least tell me why."

"You want the position because it's respectable? If you want a title, go somewhere else to get it." At that he let the bird rise into the air, free to fly the skies until the call to summon the birds. Talon turned away from her, his back squared as he crawled back to his station on the wagon.

She wanted to cry, but Beri'ah wasn't one to shed tears, and especially wasn't about to admit it. Her pride was hurt, but her stubborn mind refused to back down. In these situations, wasn't something tragic supposed to happen to give her a chance to prove herself? An injured bird she could care for? Maybe Talon catching a cold and needing a break? Beri'ah glared at the sky as if daring it to strike, but when it ignored her she sighed and turned to stare at her feet.

The call of a gagan bird overhead drew her blue eyes back to the canvas above, watching the elegant creature arch through the sky, ignoring the gravity that bound everything to the ground. Beri'ah looked back at the wagon, surprised it hadn't moved yet. Curious, she walked ahead to the driver's seat. Talon was still sitting there, leaning back and watching the same sky, an unreadable expression written across his face.

"They're so regal, aren't they?" Beri'ah commented, not expecting an answer, "They can fly for days without stopping for food or rest. I wonder if it's because of their willpower or because they really love to fly."

Talon looked back at her with an arched brow, abruptly laughing, "Most people attribute that to their body build and that they have four wings." Beri'ah flushed in the face of a more logical answer. She tried to keep her sentiments such as that private, and being laughed at certainly wasn't helping the feeling.

"Sit here." The old man said with one pat to the seat, his eyes back to the sky, "I think it's because they love to fly. You've always watched them, haven't you." It was more a statement than a question.

Beri'ah scrambled onto the wooden bench, confused at the change in manner. She was silent for a moment, but then looked up to the bird, "Yes."

Silence fell between them, but somehow it wasn't awkward. When the bird settled onto a tree, Talon looked back at her with a huff, "This old body." He sighed, "My legs tire so easy these days. I could use an assistant for this here post office."

Shocked, Beri'ah blinked, "Then..?"

"Would you like to become an apprentice?" A lopsided smirk was given as Talon watched her expression mold from shock to pure glee.

"Yes!" Beri'ah chirped, then quickly retracted and recomposed herself into a more polite state, "I mean, it would be a pleasure to work with you, Master Talon."

I hope you feel better, Natsube.

Question:
1.) Ursaris find masters to apprentice under, but if the family had the wealthy and knew a close person friend, could they appeal to that person to tutor someone for them? Could a Tutor actually self appointment himself as a teacher for someone else because they want to take up the challenged of disciplining a child to better their pupil and their skill if they feel they have the potential that they don't want to see go to waste?

Quote:
Name: Fidel
Family: Aishe
Gender: Male
Stage: Apprentice
Seller of: Lyrical Indulgence - Fidel's job is to sing in a manner that liberates others from their restraints. This can either be a social or mental obstacle that prevents a person from acting upon desires they would otherwise not pursue normally. Fidel’s songs are beneficial in that his ability influences his audience to indulge in habits like excessively drinking to hiring the ‘services’ of others, and because of that, business booms wherever he sings. Seeing as this is done in Aishe establishments and areas of business, this is beneficial to everyone working in that area as they can reap the awards of having more customers with looser pockets. Fidel gains his pay from the merchants that hire him to sing in certain areas. However, he also abuses this power by singing to specific people, who by flirtation, he can manipulate for his own personal gains.
Eyes: Sapphire Blue
Horns: Milky white ram horns that curl on either side of his head (tightly, like a bun).
Skin Color: Lightest tan possible, with some blush on his shoulders and maybe around his eyes.
Hairstyle: Fidel has parted hair in the center, with bands that curl towards the center. On either side of his face is one long piece of hair that frames his face and also curls in, with the rest of his hair in the back curling down to his shoulders. Due to a constant routine of washing and brushing, his naturally blonde hair is glossy, light, and envied.
Personality: First and foremost, Fidel is a pleasure and thrill seeker. If bored, he usually entertains himself by making others entertain him. Due to his singing ability, he is arrogant and manipulative, and belittles others when he feels they are not worth his time. An attention seeker, he has a reputation of being promiscuous and fast, though picky enough to reject the countless confessions he gets on a weekly basis. Fidel typically rejects these confessions harshly and in public, which has led others to joke that he is actually a Veduni heartbreaker in disguise. If you actually manage to spark his interest, he is charming, tactful in speech, and a pleasant conversationalist.
Position/Expression: Standing with a slight curl to his body, his left leg curls against the other, with his left hand held out lightly with a feminine air. His other hand is curled in his hair, as if adjusting one of his earrings or pulling back a lock of hair. His expression if that of charming seduction, with the eyes half open in that ‘come hither’ way and with a cocky smile, sly smirk.
Outfit: His outfit is ornamental and elegant, with a collar (part of the shirt) that has a white, decorated bell (like one on a lamp/cow). His shirt shows off his stomach, has no sleeves so that it can expose his bare shoulders, and goes at an angle. His arms have large bands that are also ornate like his shirt and collar, with long sleeves that end off in a ring on each middle finger. There are a lot of decorative angles and swirls to his clothing, following almost like the golden designs in grimoires. Like everything about him, he wants people to think instantly register ‘sexy’ and ‘unique’. He wears a belt on his hips, with a gem in the center. He wears 'boots', which are more for appeal than purpose, yet end off to show off his hooves. His tail matches his hair with curling pieces and a shine to it, along with tail rings. He also has a circlet under his hair on his forehead that look like three little teardrop The gems are one big teardrop gem in the middle, with a small teardrop gem on either side. This gem design is also featured all around his clothing. He also has ornamental, golden caps at the end of his horns.
(((For his outfit, I have no idea so I just made a random design. What I want out of his outfit is something sexy, with an exposed stomach and shoulders. It should look ornate and fancy for someone who has the wealth for it. It can even be a bit girly, as Fidel has no problem with that. If you can put little gems or designs in there, it would be most loved.)))
Items?: Depending on what is allowed, either a staff or a cane. He needs something for his right leg, but ornate enough that he can make it appear that he is only using it for appeal and not function. If he has this, then one of his hands, the one being held out, will be used to hold the cane/staff. I'd like for him to have song sheets rolled up, hanging from his belt, or someplace else on his body.
Etc: I’m free for any ideas, artistic tweaking, or even a new idea for his outfit!
References: If applicable. Sketch

Quote:
The caravan's matchmaker is a terrifying old Ursari, who will at one time or another, hold a young Ursari's life in her hands. She is usually referred to as Baba, a name that does not suit her well. Your Ursari has been called to her presence to discuss his or her options, which could be good or bad. Why were they called there? How high is your Ursari's stature, and how could this effect the match? How does your Ursari feel about this?

Restraint. It was Fidel’s bread and butter. Without it, he would have no future. His task would be meaningless, and he would not be desirable and of all things, Fidel was and would remain desirable. With restraint, he could break it. With restraint, he could force it from a person’s mind, and with it, curl them around his finger with just a sweet song from his tongue. His mouth, his beautiful mouth, was all that was needed to break restraint.

Yet no amount of sweet-talking got anyone exempt from seeing Baba, not that Fidel didn’t try. If it wasn’t for his Tutor, Midir Ata'moga, both escorting him and guarding the door, he would have been working on his tan.

Sighing loudly, he hit the bottom of his cane against his raised hoof as he sat at a slouched diangle on the oversized red chair, spilling one of the many Persian cushions on the lacquered cherry floor.

“….has been an outstanding tradition that has crafted the most brilliant vocalists, ingenious composers, and through painstaking selection, the most gifted dancers. It’s for this reason….” Fidel glanced up to the woman pacing the inside of the wagon, deep in her speech. If Fidel has been paying attention, it might have been frightening. Instead, he found something more troublesome.

Old people scared him.

He couldn’t get past the wrinkles collected around Baba’s eyes, the way her body was less nimble than woman half her age, and the way her clothes were designed to suit her history. True, being a Aishe, she still aged far better than the women from the other families, though Fidel has a pretty good guess that Pivito tonics and Verduni elixirs where somewhere tucked in her lavish wagon. Fidel gave a sweeping gaze of the interior of the wagon as the woman paced, wanting to spot those bottles. If they were keeping her this preserved now, maybe starting now would keep him immortalized in his perfection. All he spotted was the luxurious cushions, beaded curtains, and intricately designed carpets that showed off a trade that paid well. If it was one thing Aishes where, they where passionate, which meant lots of children and lots of matchmaking. There was probably a tea set or a dresser paid by a bribe here and there as well.

Turning his eyes away from a silver lantern, he looked up in time to see the up close version of Baba glaring down at him, mere inches from his face. He recoiled, clutching his cane in front of him to ward off this Creature-of-a-Million-Years. Wrinkles. Wrinkles. WRINKLES!!

“Are you listening to me? This is serious!” She huffed, her arms set on the arms of the chair as she craned over him with her long neck. He could barely nod his lie as his eyes fixated on a split end on her right shoulder. Bad hair felt like the plague to him and as she stood up and grabbed a list off a vanity, he let a shiver run up the ladder of his spine. I’m never getting old. I’m never getting old. I’m never getting old.

“You have the looks, there is no denying that, and he haven’t had a singer of your type for a while. You come from a notable family, with plenty of lovely sisters who made excellent wives.” She said, looking over what little she wrote to keep notes. Paperwork wasn’t something Aishes did, even for someone who worked as much as Baba. In Fidel’s opinion, he felt looking at papers made your eyes shrink.

“There is interest…” Baba muttered, raising up a painted finger to her crimson lips as she bunched up her face in concern.

Fidel rose in his seat, attention perked. There was only one perk about going to Baba, and that was seeing how many people wanted him. How desirable was he? Were people selling their wagons and first born sons just to get him into their inner circle. Were young women threatening to drown themselves if they didn’t have him as a lover? Oh, how the thought thrilled him. Sorry world. He was unattainable. A gem among copper coins. There just wasn’t anyone that could complement him.

“…whatever I get, I keep having to deny them.” She said, tossing the list aside as if all his good qualities were for nothing.

He watched the list hit the vanity and frowned. “What does that mean?”

“What do you think it means? You have a terrible attitude, you hardly attend your lessons, you skip out on your responsibilities, and have gained a reputation for wandering around!”

“Master Hen-ata was the one that made that confession in public, and his wife took him back in the end!” He shouted in quick defense.

“That’s not the point!” She huffed, irked at that reminder. “Word of mouth gets around and you didn’t help anything by NOT denying the gossip. You’ve dug yourself into a ditch and with what I have now, I can’t say I’m going to match you up with the best.” She said, her voice going from anger to a chiming, threatening tone as she stood.

Fidel looked up from the chair, holding his cane tightly in both hands. Did….did that mean he would have to marry someone …ugly?! He couldn’t have that. True, he didn’t want marriage, but being married to a hag wasn’t what he wanted either. His dashing good looks would go to waste next to a monstrosity. (For some reason, he couldn’t help imaging the wedding ceremony with someone looking drastically like Baba herself next to him. ICK!!!!!)

“If you don’t change your act, you might never get yourself married.”

Fidel stopped squirming in his seat and went still, sapphire eyes staring at the floor in silence. Not marry…..
Slowly, his head rose, the halo of golden hair that adorned his head shimmering and as his face appeared, he was smiling. “Never getting married? Now you have my attention.”

Restraint. Who needed it?

Heyy Natsube, the Usari I want to create is part of the Pitivo family and I want him to be a carver. And I've said he sells 'Magical Carvings' But, thats a bit contriditory isn't it? I'm a bit stuck as to what he could sell that involved carving.

Just an idea on my part, but you could appeal to what type of carvings he does. Either what style the carvings are in, or what material is used as the basis for the carvings.
