The small figure watched the female move. He sniffed the air then he ran on all fours by the fire. He looked like a partly shaven wolf with a short muzzle. He moved towards the sleeping girls.
He sniffed the air again and gave a soft howl.

Armus blinked again. This ... boy ... wolf ... startled her. She had never seen anything like him before. Were there truly such beings? Obviously, unless she dared to disbelieve her eyes. But Corrah had trained her to trust her instincts, and her instincts were telling her that this ... was a lost child ... lost and alone ... in need of company ... of care ...
He seemed sad. At least, in her ears.
She sheathed her knife again and held out one hand, her eyes filled now with compassion.
"Come here, little one," she called softly, her voice soothing. "Come let me look at you ..."

The small boy whimpered softly and his duel colored eyes focus on the woman with her hand out. His dusty skin moved slowly into the firelight as he slowly walked on all fours towards the out stretched hand and the soft voice.
His wild eyes were full of worry and confusion. He whimpered softly and yipped gently as if asking her is she was of his pack.
He move slowly towards her his large fluffy ears flicking back and forth.

Armus could just about feel her heart break as she watched the boy come closer. He sounded so lost ...
She had never felt any real instincts before ... well, okay once. But that was it. Yet now she felt something that she suspected might be motherly instinct kicking in, and she knew that she wanted to take care of this boy ... to nourish him and bring him up well.
"It's all right," she murmured softly. "I'm not going to hurt you."
Then, in a sudden inspiration, she took a chunk of meat out of her pack and held it out to the boy.

The boy listened to her words and tried to follow what she was saying. It was not words he was use too. He had gotten lost from his pack he felt the warmth of the fire and that was what had started to draw him here.
He watched her move jumping a bit then seeing the meat his eyes filled with hunger. He yipped softly his naked legs pulling under him as he sat watching her. She was a mother...she had to pups and s..she was going to give him food? He looked around worried that he was being followed.
He sniffed the air then moved over to start nibbling on the piece of meat.

Armus smiled as the boy began to eat out of her hand, and she couldn't resist reaching out with her other hand and patting him lightly on the head.
"Where are you from, little one?" she asked him softly. "Do you have a family that's missing you?"
She lookd around. SHe had never heard of anyone else living in these mountains before ... neither had Corrah, for that matter. So what did that mean? Where could the boy have come from?
"Or perhaps you should stay here with me,"she went on softly. "I'll take good care of you ... and look. You already have to playmates ... or training partners ... however you want to consider them."
She giggled softly, wondering if the boy could even understand her.
"Do you have a name, little one?" she cooed at him. "Or should I give you one?"

The boy still nibbling on the meat tilted his head up into her hand as patted him. He pulled a bit on the meat and tried to listen to her words and make sence of them.
When she mentioned family she lifted his mouth from the meat and let out a howl then listened. He whimpered and went back tot he meat when he did not get a return call. He whimpered and nibbled on the meat.
His ears twitched as she spoke. And he licked his lips and looking a bit worried he whimpered then his lips tried to mimic hers. "Rrrrr...RRR....Rhea" he tried to respond to the name. His pack had listened to humans from time to time and he could kinda speak in their tongue.

Armus was both pleased and disappointed at the same time.
"You can talk!" she exclaimed softly, her eyes shining warmly in the darkness.
On the one hand it meant that working with him ... raising him ... would be easier ... but on the other hand it meant ... he probably had a family somewhere that he needed to be returned to.
"Come sit with me," she murmured, her own tone a bit sad now, and her voice a bit lonetly at the thought that she might have to give him up just when her maternal instincts had shown up.

Rhea watched her move and listened to her though he remained sitting where he was nibbling on the meat until was all gone. Then he started to lick his hand and his small black claws. He then licked his lips and looked around more.
He heard the sorrow in her voice and whimpered. Slowly he crawled over to her his tail between his naked thighs. He whimpered again and licked her hand. A sign of submission. He looked up at her his ears lowered and clearly looking more animal like than human. He knew she was upset not why though. He slowly moved into her lap and rolled on to his back exposing his naked belly his head tilted wondering how he could make it right with her.

Armus's eyes softened as the boy lay in her lap, and though she was tempted to rub his belly and treat him like the wolf he was acting like, she resisted, instead slipping one arm beneath him and lifting him in the crook of her arm, holding him against her chest.
"Rhea," she said softly, stroking his hair tenderly, "do you have a family somewhere that you should go back to? And yet where would we begin to look?"
She reached into her bag for another piece of meat and held it just in front of him, so that he could take it if he wanted to.
"Would it be possible for you to stay with me?" she murmured.

Rhea looked confused as he was lifted up and looked around. At the word family he let out a howl trying to find his family. But no howl was returned it seemed his pack was far enough away.
He whimpered and looked on the verge of tears. He took the small peice of meat and started to nibble on in his eyes starting to shut as she stroked his hair his tail wagging softly against her.
It seemed his english was not as good as it could have been first taken to be. He could recognize words but his skill in using them was not the best yet. And the sad howls from the wolf back earlier must have been for the back loosing a brother to a human form.

Armus didn't know for sure what was going on, but she knew that something wasn't right with the boy, and that he was mourning for his family. When his call didn't receive an answer, she hugged him close.
"Then I'll take care of you," she murmured softly into one of his furry ears. "I'll treat you as my own."
She took off her beret and put the boy inside it, like a sleeping bag, then set him next to the two sleeping girls and lay next to him.
"I'm right here with you," she murmured, placing one hand on his back comfortingly. "Sleep now ... tomorrow we'll find some clothes for you."
And though she did not sleep, she put one arm over all three of the children protectively and closed her eyes.

Rhea tilted his head and giggled as her warm breath tickled his ear. He pawed playfully at her face and gave a wide yawn showing off his sharp puppy teeth.
He whimpered happily and nuzzled into her beret and took in a deep breath of her scent. She must be his mother...because no one else was responding to his call. And she gave him food and warmth.
He shifted inside his little nest and gave a soft warm huff as he felt her protective arm move over him and he started to fall asleep.
In his sleep he started to wriggle closer to one of the girls sleeping near him needing to cuddle up with someone he tried to pull Aras into the beret with him. his warm naked body pressing against the young girl's.
Ruran woke up a bit before dawn and moved to sit outside the fall and watch the dark man. Had Corrah really sat there all night and not gotten any sleep?

When Aras woke in the morning, she felt comfortable and warm, though strangely disoriented. She opened her eyes and looked around. Where were the familiar stone walls of their cave? Where was the comforting of their vases? Where was the smell of breakfast already being prepared, where was Ruque's cheerful giggle? He was always the first awake?
She saw Kanis lying beside her and suddenly everything rushed back. Their trip to the mountain that had begun their training. She remembered falling asleep with her sister ... so why was her back so warm too?
She shifted a bit to see Armus's arm lying across her and her sister ... and a green haired, furry-eared little boy who was pressed up against her. She blinked a bit and stared at him, wondering who he was and when he had gotten there.
Corrah had remained in the same place the entire night, protecting Ruran against the dangers that had presented themselves, but he could hear now that the boy was awake. He shifted slightly, and without looking over his shoulder he asked, "Did you sleep well?"

Rhea nuzzled closer to Aras his mouth working softly against a patch of her hair. He tail wagged softly against the beret as one leg wrapped around Aras' hip as he continued to suck on her hair.
Kanis yawned softly and rolled onto her other side. Her back facing her sister and the little wolf boy.
Ruran looked a bit shocked and was surprised that Corrah knew he was awake and watching. "Yes...I slept fairly well....and you sir?"
