Hazel's ears twitched, as he tilted his head in confusion. "Roth is companion?" He paused for a second, looking at the orange markings adorning both Skurri and Sentinel. Finally, realization dawned upon him. "Oops." He fell quiet, not knowing what to say.

Shooting a disapproving glare at her unfortunate companion, Raine peered over and tried to confirm the Skurri’s condition. Though the Sentinel had said that Roth was okay, the companion seemed alarmingly limp. Noting Roth’s unconscious, if unharmed, state, a switch seemed to flick in her brain. Raine wailed. “Arrgh! Its all my fault! I wasn’t good enough! I should have kept an eye on Hazel when I, you, and now everybody else, knows what a bundle of trouble he is! But nooooo, I just had to turn away right as he attacks a beloved companion. Oh-dear-oh-dear-oh dear! Is the poor Skurri alright? Just fainted...I hope?” Raine continued to babble nonsensically, berating herself for her absolute uselessness.

((Edit: You think I should use different colors for Hazel and Raine so as to not get confused?))

When the other Deep Woods female butted in and started to scold the clumsy bard Granny backed down. It was only proper to let her handle Birch and make sure he made it in time. Linnéa, known as Granny to all her students, shook her head. She had little patience with chicks who hopped around as if they had their heads among the treetops, and she had even less patience for graduated Sentinels that acted like that.

"Aww..." Birch said as the female herded him away, "Not even a piece of dried apple?"

"You can have your snack afterwards," Linnéa said sternly, giving him her most terrifying glare, "And tell your mother that Granny wants a word with her if you see her."

His mother had been a good student, but she must have had a spot of bad luck with that son. She watched them fly before turning to the young Snow female again.

"You didn't happen to see which way my Rose went in all the commotion," she asked in a soft voice that sounded nothing like the one she had used when lecturing Birch, "I'm afraid I only heard her panic and flee, poor thing."

Liam looked hard at Furry Hazel. The Martes did look sorry... A stirring beneath his wing prompted him to lower his unconsciously-raised ear tufts. "As my mate said, no harm, no foul." He nodded at Furry Hazel. "But, just a general warning, if it's a Skurri surrounded by Sentinels and it's still alive, it's probably a Companion." He looked at the female who accompanied the creature. "Roth is fine, just a bit of a shock. Nobody's ever tried to eat him before. Don't worry, a Martes is a Martes and nothing can be done about that. If anything, I was careless to let him wander around by himself. My name is Liam, and my mate here is Hazel, too. It's a shame we had to meet under such frightening circumstances, but a pleasure nevertheless."

"No! No time, no time!" Tousled herded the bright bard into the air and fell in behind him, feeling a peculiar buzzing at the back of her head that made it difficult to concentrate, so she made sure to keep the bright green-and-yellow tailfeathers in her view while she flew, hardly even noticing the other sentinels travelling through the airspace before they whooshed past above or below her.

The buzzing had intensified by the time they came down for a landing, and she hit the bark with an unpleasantly jarring thud, staggering a few steps as several of her cleverly hidden berries scattered out around her. She righted herself and looked at the spilt berries, wanting to pick them up again, but the image swam slightly before her eyes so she closed them for a moment. Ear tufts pressed back against her skull and swaying slightly where she sat, Tousled slowly began to fight back the buzzing noise and the small waves of nausea that kept rising in her throat.

Chase jumped in the air and felt the cold wind brush gently against his feathers. Narrowing his eyes, he flapped his wings and flew up in the air trying not to lose sight of the fleeing bard. Gliding above the pair, we wondered how he was going to introduce himself. Honestly, what he really wanted to do was to approach the female from behind and whisper in her eartuft “Your friend makes a very good diversion.” Or something like that. She would probably be caught off guard… it would be most entertaining. As he landed above her, his playful grin disappeared at once. There seemed to be something wrong with the female. The bard would surely take care of his friend but Chase wondered for brief moment if the female wasn’t about to fall. He looked at female again, realized his presence was unnecessary and decided to leave the introductions to another day.

Raine blinked, seeming to come out of a daze. Huh? Where the hoot was she? And what had just happened? Something about Hazel and a Skurri...
Slowly and fuzzily, the recent events started to float back to her. Oh dear, she must have had another one of her anxiety-induced panic attacks.
"Yes, yes, quite a shame..." She paused, before nodding amiably at the two Sentinels. "It's a great pleasure to meet you, too. I'm Raine by the way, and this little rascal is my companion, Hazel." After another lengthy silence, debating if it would be appropriate to joke, she chuckled softly. "It seems that there are two Hazels at this gathering, in different shapes though they might be. Isn't that quite the funny coincidence?"

((EDIT: Omigod...is anyone a medic? *stares at Tousled*))

Birch hooted with laughter as they landed on a huge talon worn branch in a less crowded spot, out of view from anyone that might have witnessed the scene.

"That was brilliant," he said, snatching up a berry that rolled by and gulping it down, "You would have fooled me with that performance. Oh, the looks on their faces! Ahh... I wonder if that female really knows my mother."

"This was so much fun," He bobbed his head excitedly, "Did you get anything good?"

It took some time for Birch to realise that Tousled was unusually quiet. His grin disappeared when he looked at her and saw her sitting quietly in the middle of all the dropped berries. She looked miserable with her eyes closed, swaying as if she could drop from the tree any moment.

"Tousled?" he asked, worried, "What's the matter?"

He stood for a moment shifting from one foot to the other, unsure what to do about Tousled and the berries, and Tousled. And... And... Sorting out his priorities he quickly moved to her side, trying to ignore the squishing under his feet, allowing her to lean on him if that should be necessary.

"What's the matter?" he asked and preened her closest ear tuft, "Are you hurt? Did you fly into something?"

Don't panic. Dooon't panic.

Tousled felt something soft press up close to her and gratefully leaned against it. Birch's voice came to her as if from a great distance, but seemed to grow closer as the buzzing slowly faded away.

"N-No," she stammered, and her voice seemed to echo a bit in her head, even though she was barely whispering. "I just... feel a bit strange"

It was nice not having to support her own weight as much, and the thing that she was leaning against was soft and comfortable. It reminded her of being brooded by a minder and inspired her with a very pleasant feeling of being hidden, safe. The buzzing faded away and the sounds of the world around her came back.

She blinked as if she had been dozing off, and instinctively looked over to see what she was leaning against - meeting Birch's eyes at a much closer distance than she had expected. She blinked again, then carefully leaned back to stand entirely on her own two feet. Once all of her weight was off him, she allowed a ripple of embarrassment to pass through her feathers and tried to do her best to hide it by sending the bard a grateful smile.

"Oh my... thank you... I don't... I really don't know what came over me. I'm so sorry about that... didn't mean to worry you, or anything." She reached down to preen a little, like she always did when she was too embarrassed to think, and saw all the berries that had spilled out onto the branch. "Oh dear! We should probably pick those up!"

Snow felt relief as she watched Birch fly off with the fantastically feathered Tousled for his next performance; or so she thought so, anyways. I'm glad he's not injured, she mused, Perhaps now is a good time to go before she starts again...

And she would have, too, if it weren't for the soft voice that interrupted her course of action. Surprised, she turned around and focused her attention back to the old bird, who has now calmed down a considerable amount and was currently trying to speak with her.

"Well," she thought back for a moment when Birch had collided softly to the ground and the whole fuss started. There weren't many sentinels who were affected tremendously by him, though there was a lot of yelling at the bard for pulling a stunt like that. Somewhere in the banks of her memory she noticed a little flutter flicking away into the distance.

"I think she may have gone in that direction." She stretched out her left wing and pointed eastward with some uncertainty. "I can help you look for her, if you'd like."

Hazel was much calmer now, seeing Roth move a little. Poor thing, with only being around hatchlings and fledglings, most of whom were far too small to even think of eating him, this must have been so alarming. It looked like the poor owner of the martes was having just as bad a time of it though...oh wait, now she seemed alright.

"Indeed, funny that his name would be the same." She patted the martes, hopping from him to settle at Liam's side again, putting her own wing over his atop Roth. "A pleasure to meet you Raine, regardless of the circumstances."

Teak sat just outside the center of activity throughout most of the evening. She settled heavily on her chosen limb, watching the others quietly.

This was her habit. She enjoyed gatherings not for the interaction or activity, but simply for the opportunity to watch. Watching, listening, deducing the Sentinels' relationships from their subtle subtle actions. It comforted her.

Several times Teak contemplated leaving her perch, but she found it hard to sacrifice her comfortable vantage point.

Her stomach made an unfomfortable noise. She wondered if anyone had any food. Her own body was going to force her out of the shadows before long.

Chase decided to return to the banquet. He vaguely remembered hearing a worried female’s voice showing some concern about her missing parus. It couldn’t be the parus that Hazel had bumped into… no, this parus was with her owner until the bard crashed in. He wondered if he could help the search for the companion. The pain on is right wing was perfectible endurable so either he was getting used to it or the wing was getting better by itself. He dropped gently on the exact same spot he had previously been and looked at huge number of Sentinels surrounding the food display. It would take some time a whole lot of ”excuse me”s to get anywhere near the middle. He hasn’t that hungry anymore.

Unsure of what else to say, Raine nodded and fidgeted uneasily, creating an awkward silence.
"Uhm...nice weather, isn't it?"
She gestured vaguely towards the sky, and inwardly slapped herself. How was it that some Sentinels could just sit and chat for hours on end? What was it that you were supposed to talk about in company, anyways? Having spent the better half of her life in exile, the loner had practically no idea of how to act after exchanging pleasantries.
Just be myself...be myself...what if they don't like me for me?

Stretching his elegant wings and ruffling his feathers, the silvery-white sentinel let out a small sigh of pleasure. Having enjoyed the Brigadier's story in the company of close relatives -- and he considered it a privilege to hear such words straight from the Brigadier himself -- he decided it was time to join the festivities. This was what he wanted after all. Quitting the Rangers was a hard choice. He enjoyed his life as a ranger; the freedom, the travel, the thrill. Even with all its perks, he missed being with other sentinels. It was probably for the best that he’d become a watcher just before the Longest Night and thought of it as a great opportunity to meet new sentinels after his time in seclusion.

After excusing himself, he flapped his wings and glided gingerly towards the crowd, performing a spectacular, yet totally unnecessary, double-spiral before he landed. There was quite commotion near the banquet just moments before and the sentinels were lively with chatter. Silverwing greeted everyone he met with a hoot as he made his way to the food, determined to get his share -- so determined in fact, that he didn’t notice an outstretched wing, lined with snowy-white feathers, and ran straight into it.
