*rolls in the baby dust*

It's just so weird this time actively TTC, I think it adds a bit of stress because we're thinking about it so much. The positive side is, he's on leave so he's not working and tired on top of it. I think everyone knows we're TTC, I got told I'm getting a pregnancy test for Christmas from a friend, lol.

When William and I decided to it took us three months.

What I found out was happening was at the beginning of the month we'd be giving it a go every single day as often as possible, but I hadn't even ovulated yet. So by the time I was ovulating we were all "okay that's enough sex for now" SURE we were pregnant.

The third month, I went to www.yourdays.com and filled out a calendar and bam...pregnant. I know the EXACT DATE of conception.

You can ALSO try the natural family planning method of having sex on certain days to try and get a boy or a girl. It just raises your odds a little bit.

Then again the whole ovulation calendar thing works only if you're decently regular.

I've been using that site, really cool site! I don't really buy into the boy/girl thing, but we're just enjoying the fun of it, I'll give him a few days off LOL!

Well it's just supposed to "up your odds" if "all things being average."

That doesn't mean you still CAN'T have a girl during the boy time just that statistically based on the science of things your chances of a boy during a certain time is better.

Thanks, the site made it a lot easy to think about. I was reading one site, it had so many abbreviations and just hurt my head with all the information and everything, it was insane.

Uh, does anyone know what are the chances of a false positive test?

Pretty much nil if you followed the instructions exactly. There are a few very rare conditions that can cause false positives as well as some fertility drugs that raise hcg levels, but you are much, much, much more likely to get a false negative than a false positive.

You can only acheive a false positive if:

1. It's an ectopic pregnancy
2. It's a chemical pregnancy (early miscarriage)
- BOTH of which are ACTUALLY pregnancies, just not the kind that you want

3. You are taking fertility drugs that introduce HcG to your system
4. You have some kind of weird freakshow medical problem like tumors that make teeth and hair and such.

My trying to conceive story:

A year after we were married, we started actively trying to get pregnant. Each month when I was not pregnant was very devastating. I charted my cycles, took my basal temperature, checked my cervical mucus, had sex at the right times, and laid for 30 minutes afterwards with a pillow under my hips. No luck. I tried not worrying about it, not thinking about it. Still, every month when my period would start, or it'd be late but I'd get a negative HPT result, I'd cry and cry, and it was a really hard time, especially with everybody around me getting pregnant by accident! While I was trying to conceive, I had four people from hubby's side of the family get pregnant by accident, 2 of them being unmarried and still in high school! It didn't seem fair to me.

For TWO YEARS we tried to get pregnant (and after a year of unprotected sex and not conceiving, you're considered infertile, which means there's probably something hampering fertility) so after these two years, I finally went in for some investigation. Our insurance pays for infertility testing, but not treatment. Fortunately, the testing was all I needed, because one of the first tests they did was flush dye through my tubes to see if they were clear, and just the flushing of the dye managed to clear minor blockages, and following this procedure, women can have their most fertile months ever, and that's when I got pregnant! (It was also during the most stressful and upsetting month of all, when a 5-year car accident lawsuit was getting ready to go to court!)

Now Jade is 4 1/2. Her middle name, Qi-Hui, is Mandarin Chinese for Long Awaited Blessing. Ever since Jade was 1, we've had unprotected sex again. That's 3 1/2 years of unprotected sex. I wondered if maybe I'd have the same infertility problems afterwards, and it looks like it! But I never really had the craving to have another baby, until recently. A week ago I was seriously having the baby itch, feeling my heartstrings pull when I saw all the little babies at Walmart last weekend, and thinking about it, the timing was perfect if I had been pregnant this month, as I kind of suspected since around ovulation time. We were extra 'festive' just after Christmas, and I felt the signs of ovulation. What a fun time to be conceived! And the baby would be due on the Autumnal Equinox! What a perfect time! Right after Jade starts kindergarten, and by the Chinese calendar, a more compatable sign for me than if a baby were born in 2007.

My cycles have been right on cue for as many months last year as I can remember. Exactly 28 days, and occasionally 29. Right now I'm 5 days late with no sign of a period, so I took a HPT this morning, but it was negative. neutral

Perhaps I'll look into another HSG (where they flush my tubes with dye and take x-rays) and see how our current insurance will handle that. I've always suspected I might have endometriosis or polycystic ovarian syndrome or blocked tubes or other things inhibiting conception.

Tetravus
Basal thermometers have an accuracy of 0.1 degrees, still doesn't make it that easy, but it does give you some sort of an idea. You have to do this for several cycles before you can feel confident that you know where the ovulation is. Personally, I don't know of anyone who has kept it up for that long. I'm sure there are people out there. It kind of ruins the mood for some (which can be more harm than good in some situations), but if you want to get all scientific and efficient, that definately is the way to go.

*raises hand sheepishly* Yeah, that would be me. I think I charted my basal temp for, I dunno, maybe 5 months or something? All the trying to conceive stuff really turned sex into a chore, and took the fun out of it. But seriously, relaxing and forgetting about it didn't help either. I really needed my tubes flushed for it to work!

EDIT: redface I just noticed I was an active participant in this thread already a year ago on page 2! I have some catching up to do!

Hehe, caught up on the thread! Congrats to the three successful TTCers! It's kind of funny reading through and hearing how everybody is trying, how many months, etc, but then seeing the baby-ticker along the bottom of the sigs, it's like knowing the ending of the story before getting there! xd

... crap.

Well, I'm back.. but not because I'm a successful attempt happy story.

No, I'm a sad story.

I finally got to the doc's to find out why, after three years, we haven't been able to concieve. We've actively tried for... since a few months before I made this thread whee But nothing.

Finally went in because of abnormal bleeding, (9month long period) and they pinned it: PCOS.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. Caused by too much insulin in the blood.

Symptoms: Missed periods, irregular periods, or abnormal bleeding. Abnormal hair growth. Abnormal weight gain or inability to lose weight.

And infertility.

*shudders* I'm just only barely functioning, and that's because I"ve been reassured over and over that it's possible to get pregnant with PCOS, but it'll require medications to control the insulin and the hormone release.

A sad story.

I'm sorry to hear that Kyoki and I can imagine this is hard on you two as well. I admit I don't know much about PCOS, but I have known a few friends that have had it and were able to find a way through it.

http://www.pcosupport.org/

I've heard that's a good site for support and information (I'm sure you know all ready about it), but it can't hurt to throw it out there.

*hugs*
