Ive been thinking more about it and im not too sure on the Necrons.

I mean sure theyre easier on the wallet and such and i like their unit's and playstyle, but they lack personality.

I mean with say the Imperial Guard or other sides, theres more chance to add your own personal touches and backstory and all that.

But with the Necrons its just kind of plain.

With Fluff, yes, it's difficult to have originality with necrons, thats why i picked the color scheme i have. If you look in the codex at the color schemes, they have the "ceramics" part. I use the Space Wolves Gray color scheme, just because it looks so different than the usual metallic scemes i always see people use.

Thats true

On further thought i probably will go with the IG. True it may cost alot more, but theres more room for personality, more detail with the soldiers and stuff like that.

Precisely where I was coming from. This is why I chose to drop my necrons for space marines, which I found myself more capable of putting my own flavor of personality into. The furthest you can go with Necrons is paint scheme and fluff variation, not much variation in tactics.

Necrons are a great force to start on:

- Not very expensive money wise compared to other forces.
- Easy as hell to paint.
- Not very customizable so you don't have to worry about a crap load of special rules.
- And they are actually a very forgiving force since most of you're units can get back up. You're allowed to make mistakes with them.

Kind of hard to argue with Necrons as a starting force.

i wouldnt agree with that, the fact that they are so reslient would cause me to be agginst them to start with as it lures players into a flase sense of security, marines are porbably the best because they can be very plaine with no traites till you know what your doing, and then you can easily adapte them afterwards once you knwo what your doing

i accually did a study on all of the different types of armies and they're prices for a good size army and i found that tyranids (or however you spell it)are one of the cheapest, im hoping to start one of those armies soon....

I agree that the Marines are a good army to start with for those very reasons. Furthermore, Necrons have a very unique strategy which isn't very good for starting as it doesn't give you a good view of all the posible techniques as you are extremely limited. The Space Marines are much more versatile and give a player more options.

Right now its gone to a tie-up between the Space Marines and the Imperial Guard. Both have alot of room for flexibility and tactics.

Ive been dipping more into Warhammer 40k novels though (only 3 so far though, Dawn of War, Dawn of War:Ascension, and Lord of the Night) and im leaning towards the Space Marines.

Also, as much as I wish to get into this, im having trouble finding anybody who plays it here. Any suggestions?

I think you should start with click fit boxes to find out if your actually the type for painting and modelling, imperial guard aren't that hard to paint, bu Tau on the other hand are very hard, the easiest painting comes with necrons and orks though domokun

ibeleive that chaos marines would be a great start for a powerfull army. you got the demons, hordes, possessed marines and the strength in numbers. and not as difficult to paint

Actually, Chaos are the opposite of strength in numbers. Even moreso than normal Marines, Chaos models are extremely heavy points-wise and have the killing ability to back it up.

I would also consider them more difficult to paint as your average Chaos model has way more detail (eg. "the fiddly bits") than most other models. I enjoy them specifically because of the amount of coversion I get to do.

At least you'll be painting fewer, eh? 3nodding

Anyhow, I guess I still agree with your summation though: Chaos Marines would be a great start for a powerful army.
