C a t h a r s i s NOOKIE MONSTER C a t h a r s i s NOOKIE MONSTER Okay, I've read it so many times that I'm a bit concerned. I live in California -San Diego, in fact- and I've never seen such extreme tans, at least not on normal looking humans. I've seen Ganguro girls in Harajuku, and it is much, much, MUCH more extreme than any tan I've seen (again, on normal, attractive humans... I see bums with dark tans like that though). Despite how my post sounds, I like Ganguro. Like most people have said on this thread, it is not for me, but I think the deep tans with white/light makeup is an interesting look. Quite refreshing, actually. Still shocked me when I first saw it, and I am Californian. OT: Wah! Really? I'm moving to SDSU for school in August. :3 Seriously, it scared me too, the first time. I still like to look at it once in a while. XD Yes, it's true. We have normal skin here. Sure there are blondes with tans, but they aren't straight up brown!!! I know that most use makeup to get that effect, but I wonder just how dark the average Japanese's skin can go. Kind of weird questing/musing... oh well. Ahaha! I think you misunderstood. I didn't make myself clear when I posted. XD I meant, really? You live in San Diego? Because I'm moving there for school. sweatdrop Hahahahahahahahaha I feel really silly now... sweatdrop Um, um, so yeah. San Diego is nice. I hope you like it here! (trying desperately to cover up my idiocy)

I think it's an interesting look. Personally, I would never wear it, but it is interesting to see how Japanese 'rebels' act fashion wise compared to the USA. Not to mention, most of the time they end up looking like inverse pandas. And I like pandas! They're cute and fuzzy and...anyway. I do worry, though. With fake tans that dark, they're pretty much asking for skin cancer.

Ze Winged Kitty Cat Lolita Panda Ze Winged Kitty Cat Ganguro and Yamanba girls are extreme rebels. The Ganguro, and a slightly more extreme form only around for a couple years, G onguro, were dying their hair and tanning to rebel from their parents. They usually wanted nothing to do with Japanese culture, so they turned to the Valley Girls as inspiration. Really? But Valley Girls are 'parent-money-munchers', as I like to call them. Or at least all the ones I know are. Well... the ganguros do usually have access to their parent's money. And use it. A lot. But O-gals are the first thing I think of when I hear ganguro. They lived on not very much, and were semi-homeless. They would leave home if they got mad at their parents, go clubbing, and come back in a week. Just to escape normal Japan. Extremeists. But the real money munchers are Gyarus. If they get a stain on a shirt, they get $500 from theit dad for a new one. Of go on "paid dates" in extreme cases. I've come across a few ganguros and they're really quite nice now that I think about it....Ko-gal(?) is an interesting look because alot of my friends are often like, "Oi! Kuu-chan, it's you in white makeup!!>.<" *laughs* Just, Yamanbas are really scary to me.....I like how they're very rebellious, though. *Take ME away for a week, too!*

I love ganguro...
Some girls make it look absolutely adorable...
I think that there is a certain extent to where ganguro is a little much but usually I love it!

Okay, I must admit that some of them look quite strange, silly, or...SCARY...but there are a few who pull off the look very well. I think they are cute, but I could never pull of that look.

I think it's just another fashion like loli. And I can't say I dislike it, I'll never wear it but won't mind if there would be a little bit more of them around on the streets. it makes the world more colourful and interesting, just like lolita's <3.

I think it is an acquired taste, but some people can do it so well. I haven’t gotten the hang of how to do the make-up correctly, yet. .-.
