Okay I'm starting to think this "I hate German and love French" phenomonon is something that stems from stereotypes that were ingrained in American society during the second world war as part of propoganda.

stare

Took you a while. razz

Also, I think the loving French thing also comes from the general insistence by the French that their language is more beautiful than others.

German part, sure. Dunno about the French part. America has so much animosity towards France for being "weak" and being "quitters" and bailing out and such that I just don't see that one working.

Actually I think French sounds rather repulsing. ITALIAN is beautiful.

Yeah about stereotypes.... some kid called me a drunken nazi for being German, and he's nearly FULL GERMAN. With like FIRST GENERATION IMMIGRANTS for grandparents. And he called me and all Germans drunken nazi's and that's a horrible thing to say because they are REALLY nice people, hate anything to do with WW2, and I'm hosting a student from there in a bit more than a week and then I'm going! And I was like..... shut the F*** up

I reached that conclusion a while ago, but now I'm seeing much more evidence to prove my hypothesis.... razz

Ah, poor poor Germany.... people need to realize that not all germans supported Hitler and there were non-Jewish germans who were prosecuted and killed too! it's not like a WHOLE ENTIRE NATION supported mass genocide.

Haha, I love the sound of German and Russian the most, but that's because they're rather to the point. xD

I don't like French, but I don't know if it's the sound I hate or the way they insist on spelling their words. D= It's so complicated to someone who needs Firefox's built in spell check just to post in a forum. =x

Seriously! confused

My grandfather was pure German, born in Germany, all that stuff. His family moved to America before Hitler's take over, and during WWII he signed up to fight against the Nazis because he didn't believe what Hitler was doing was right and that they must be stopped. When people who didn't even know grandpa call him a Nazi, it's really damn insulting.

I agree. It is insulting. My great uncle was always insulted when someone called him a Nazi...He even went so far as to ban the speaking of German in his household. But that was due to the sad fact that his brother, and my other Great Uncle, was actually a Nazi Soldat, and eventually an SS soldier. x.x

Spanish. I really dislike Spanish! And I'm fully blooded hispanic and it was my first language but forgot how to speak it in pre-school.

It's so...gyah. It's all over the place and it just doesn't flow. I don't like any forms of Spanish.

Though some people keep trying to get me to learn it yet i refuse. I always say: "I wanted to take French in High School!"

My sister:"Where you going to use French in the United States?!"

Me: "In the states next to Canada or in Canada."

Sister: "....They use French?"

My Boyfriend: "Yup. It's like their second language."

Sister's Husband: "It's true"

Also, students in Louisiana are required to take French as a foreign language in high school. Many Cajun people who were born in Louisiana speak Cajun French as a first language, actually.

Of course, Cajun French is declining, as popular media is mainly in English and the descendants of the Cajun French don't have any reason to learn French anymore (they speak English in school and, if they want to be successful in the United States, it's best if they speak English).

I really hate it when native speakers of English using chat-speak when speaking to each other. It drives me up the wall into a tree while falling off a giant skyscraper by accident. I also hate it when people censor swear words while speaking instead of using a euphemism. stressed

You mean when they spell out things letter by letter? Like saying "w-t-f was he doing?"
