hilaroma In my case, I've never had a proper general exam (or even a pap) because....well, I'm not very pain-tolerant. It might work out if they could sedate me or something; they could even do a pap if they sedated me. I don't think it's an option though. At least the few doctors I've asked have said it wasn't, even after fighting through a partial exam with me. I'm almost crying at the thought of having to go in again.... crying All this girl talk...the poor AG guys! sweatdrop While I've found pap smears to be uncomfortable, the ones I've had weren't painful. Maybe having someone with you to hold your hand? I know for the longest time I needed someone with me when I got a shot, but after much self control I've gotten to the point where I can get shots and blood drawn without anybody holding my hand or freaking out. Still don't like needles, though... *shudder* But I'd much rather have a female poking around down there for medical purposes than a guy.

I've actually only experienced pain once in my advanced age. I don't know if it was just a bad day or what. Mostly it feels like 'is someone trying to floss?' I always put all my feelings in my feet/toes while it's going on though. I can't watch with needles. Usually people are very sweet to me when they draw blood though if I admit I'm squeamish as sheepishly as possible.
