gonk Why am I nineteen? WHY CAN'T I BUY SAKE TO MAKE THIS DELICIOUS LOOKING MARINADE FOR THIS DELICIOUS LOOKING SALMON?!

Curse you, United States law... curse you emo

I'll buy it for you. surprised

But far-away-Pi lives far away emo

I'm going to ask mom to pick it up. She loves her alcohol- I doubt she'd turn down an excuse to go grab some Baileys and vodka and wine and...
Either that or ask my grandfather if he'll run into the liquor store with me and nab some.

A lot of these recipes use sake, so I may as well just pay someone to get it for me.

The store across the street from me (Publix.) sells like, mini bottles of Sake. I need to pick up a bottle sometime. I also need to go to the swanky sake bar downtown.

I need moar friends who drink. Boogie is useless because she is underage. scream

I don't even think I'll really drink even when I'm not underage anymore.
I just don't like alcohol. But I'd like to try sake anyway. Just for the hell of it.

I do like using it to cook though.

Note: Go for the good stuff when drinking sake. Cooking grade tastes like nailpolish remover. gonk

Hmm??

It's Amaretto (Almond Liquor. Not very strong.) and Sour Mix. They are very tasty. My favorite. It takes 3-4 glasses to get me slightly tipsy, so you could drink one socially and be fine.

Hey Keys, I've been meaning to ask you...you mentioned you had a good lemon bar recipe. Might it be possible for me to try it out? I just got some baking dishes from my mom and I'm so excited to use them. sweatdrop

I use Epicurious' recipe: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/101162

Only scaling the lemon bar portion up by 50% and scaling the shortbread base down to 2/3rds.

(Clarity check: Since I often do this in an 8 x 8 instead of a 9 x 13, that means 3/4thing the lemon filling and 1/3rding the shortbread base.)

I never go through cooking wine fast enough. crying

Also, I suck at making rice too. There's usually a bit too much water left and the rice grains don't seem plump enough. Maybe my pot lids just aren't cutting it. I keep playing around with the amount of water too trying to get it right. I pretty much only make jasmine or basmati.

So, AG, I have a dilemma.

Finally, after 3 months, the Site Director position has finally been posted. Now, I have my issues with certain people in management at my program, but as Site Director that becomes a moot issue.

So, should I apply for it? What do you guys think?

Things to keep in mind. I do not know if I am qualified to do the job. I don't have any supervisory experience, although I do spend most of my shift working without supervisors being around. I also have very little experience with the administrative aspects of the program. However, my 7 years of experience in residential plus my BA degree may count for more than someone with only a few years experience in residential.

I do like my program. I know I've been bitching about work a lot, but it's really more frustration with administrators than with the program itself. Until this whole mess back in November, I was relatively happy at the program. There were a few things that bothered me, but that can happen with any job.

Also, I do not want to apply for the position unless I am very sure I want to do this. It's a huge responsibility, not only will I be responsible for myself, I will be responsible for all the employees, the clients AND their children. It's not something I'd take lightly, and I also want to make sure my reasons for applying for the position are right (if I'm applying for it just to spite a certain supervisor, that's not a good enough reason).
I think you should figure out if you're able to perform the tasks, then if you want to. If you want and are able to, just go for it and apply. I don't think there's anything to lose in just applying. It's okay then if you get rejected (or decline the offer if they pick you and you decide you don't want it anymore). That's how I see it anyway. Go for it, Luna! heart

I concur. 3nodding

1. You have experience on the ground floor of the program and have an understanding of how things work and how things do not work. (as you have shown us here in recent months)

2. You have brought attention to problems that need solving even though your current position gave you little "real" reason to do so. In other words, you seem to be proactive for your program.

3. Gator tamer - self explanatory

So AG ... I have a one week vacation coming in less than two months ... but I have no idea what I should do.

Suggestions!?
Well it depends on when exactly your vacation is. If possible, it might be awesome to decide your vacation depending on where the Cherry Blossom front will be at the time. If it's still too early for that, I'd be glad to give you a bunch of neat suggestions of cool places to go. 3nodding heart
It's the last week in March, if that helps. 3nodding
Definitely does! If the cherry blossoms are on about the same approximate schedule as last year (you'll have to check the news or perhaps your supervisor will know), you could hit up Kyoto/Nara/Osaka at the peak of the blooming. Granted, wherever you go will be somewhat crowded because that's vacation season, but since it can't be helped...if you decide to go, I can give my further recommendations as far as awesome places to go.

This time would even be fine for a trip to Okinawa because (unless there's some kind of nasty storm) the weather should already be pretty fabulous. I went in the first week of February last year and it was already 20-22 degrees Celsius the whole time (about 68-72 Fahrenheit). If you wait until June/July, you'll be caught in the rainy season with almost unbearable humidity (that goes for most of the rest of Japan too). gonk

I'm thinking Okinawa at the beginning of May (my other vacation) ... thoughts?

Excellent! I wasn't sure when the sakura would start to bloom, so the prosepect of going to Osaka and Kyoto is looking much more promising. As a finisher, I can swing through Tokyo (since I think I'd have to through there anyway) and try to see a few more different parts of the city. 3nodding

I usually make good rice. I'm just far too lazy to make it all the time xd
And that's odd D: I've never had a water problem, personally. I always add in just slightly over what's recommended and I'm fine.

Wow...amazing reviews. eek It seems like the general consensus is to have more lemon part. I've got both an 8 x 8 and a 9 x 13 pan. Any advantage to using the 8 x 8 over the other?

Long grain rices like jasmine and basmati cook differently from short grains, so the same technique probably won't work exactly. I tried cooking jasmine rice once at my parents' doing the same thing I do with calrose (a type of short grain) when I don't have a rice cooker and it came out watery too. I was so sad.
